His childhood was limited to Vasilievsky Island. In the 30th he graduates from the physico-mathematical school and goes to study acrobat in the Leningrad pop-circus college.

He briefly worked in the circus, but was soon noticed by film workers, who lured him to the main role of Pavel Vetrov in the film “Hero Mistake” on “Lenfilm”. Until the 35th year, Georgy managed to star in 5 films, including the famous Chapaev. In the 35th Kirov was killed, Zhzhenov's older brother Boris was convicted for not attending a mourning rally. The whole family is sent to Kazakh exile, but George did not go with them, and he was arrested. Only Gerasimov’s petition returned Zhzhenov to Lenfilm. In the 38th Zhzhenov goes to the shooting of the film “Komsomolsk” in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur and meets a train passenger – a diplomat from the United States. The Chekists immediately learn about this, and Georgy is sentenced to 5 years in camps for “espionage”. But he served all...8 years (!), as the term was extended by order from above. In the 46th he was released and under the protection of Gerasimov went to Sverdlovsk for a film studio, but that was closed in the 48th. You can't go to Moscow. Zhzhenov goes to the town of Pavlovo-on-Oka and settles in the local drama theater. In the 49th year, George is arrested, and until the age of 53 he sits in Norillag and plays in the local drama theater. There he met Smoktunovsky.

Only in the 55th he is rehabilitated, and he returns to the city on the Neva River and after a while recovers on the "Lenfilm" as an actor. Since the 60th he has been working in the Lensovet.

In 68-m moved to Moscow in the theater of the Moscow Council.

The talented actor died on December 8, 2005, having lived less than 91 years. Georgy Stepanovich was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, on plot No. 10.
