Batty Joan Perske was born in New York City on September 16, 1924, but she became known as Lauren Bacall. How could she not become a legend?
At the age of nineteen, she appeared on the cover of Harpers Bazaar, at the age of twenty she starred with
Humphrey Bogart in
"Having and Not Having", a year later they married. To the whole world, she was the personification of sophisticated passion, but Bacall remembers herself differently: Usually I was all shaking with excitement, so to somehow keep my head firmly, I lowered my chin, almost pressing it against my chest, and so looked down at Bogart. That's where that look came from.
In 1957, Bogart died of cancer; Bacall soon became engaged to FONT COLOR="#333366">Frank Sinatra. Frank, who at times got a little weird when it came to women, broke off the engagement when reporters got wind of it.
In 1961, Lauren married FONT COLOR="#333366">
Jason Robards, the youngest who liked to drink too much; in 1973 they divorced. Through all the divorce proceedings Bacall was almost with a drawing - her three children and legendary outfits remained untouchable.
In the late 60s, her famous look faded somewhat, and Hollywood began to yawn, so Bacall went to Broadway. Although her characteristic live voice was more suitable for the voiceover of commercials, the actress received Tony twice for musicals -
"Applause" and
"Woman of the Year.
The actress returned to the big screen in 1974, after an eight-year hiatus, starring in the detective "FONT COLOR="#336699">
"Murder on the Orient Express". In 1979, she wrote an autobiography that became a bestseller:
"Lauren Bacall: About Herself", later, in 1994, followed by a sequel -
"Lauren Bacall Today".
In 1996, the still brilliant Bacall played with
Barbra Streisand the role of her always interfering under the feet of her mother in the film
The mirror has two faces (for which the actress was nominated for the Golden Globe and Oscar) and the former first lady in Since 1988, Bacall has starred in at best one film in a year, and her activity in advertising has not decreased.
