Underwood received his primary education at a high school in the American city of St. Petersburg (Virginia), and then entered the Carnegie Mallon Drama School in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania).
He made his film debut on The Cosby Show in 1985 and was cast as Bobby Blue on the soap opera One Life to Live. For his next role - the role of John Rollins - in the series "L.A.
