Leslie Howard, British film and theater actor, famous producer and director was born on April 3, 1893 in London, UK. The family of the Hungarian emigrant Ferdinand Steiner and his wife Lilian were large, but more or less wealthy. Parents try to give children as much attention as possible.
The carefree and happy childhood of Leslie and his four younger siblings passed in Vienna, and then the whole family returned to London.
From a young age, Leslie was attracted to the theater, the play of actors on the stage fascinated him and inspired creative impulses. As a teenager, Leslie took part in all home performances with great pleasure. The mother saw his son’s nascent acting talent and strongly encouraged his further development. The father watched home performances indifferently, called this hobby meaningless and empty, because he considered it necessary to send his son to study at Dulwich College. After graduating from college, Leslie, at the insistence of his father, got a job as a clerk in one of the banks of London. When the First World War began in 1914, he quit his job and enlisted in the cavalry of the 20th Hussar Regiment.
Due to the sharp deterioration of health, which was undermined in this war, Leslie is demobilized and sent home to his homeland.
Returning home in 1916, Leslie Howard marries and rejoices to return to his old passion of acting, which serves him as a form of mental and physical therapy after the horrors of the war years. His career as a theater actor began with small roles and only in 1918 he made his debut on the big London stage in the production of the famous British playwright Arthur Pinero “Freaks”. It should be noted that Leslie Howard was a stunning success.
In 1920, Leslie Howard went to conquer America and immediately made his Broadway debut in the tragicomedy Just Imagine. In just a decade of his work in the United States, he has made a remarkable theatrical career, appearing in more than twenty productions.
Leslie returned to the cinema at a fairly mature age. Howard’s film career began to develop rapidly, and already in 1931 he starred in the dramatic film Two Never Meet, which brings him extraordinary success. On this creative rise, Leslie Howard without rest, starred in the following dramatic films.
"Free soul" "Five and Ten."
Leslie Howard tragically died on June 1, 1943, in a plane over the Bay of Biscay that was shot down by German fighters. /
