Bunker was first jailed in California at the age of 17 for stabbing a guard at a teenage correctional center. He later escaped from a Los Angeles prison where he was serving time. Bunker was once one of the ten most wanted criminals in America. He started writing while in prison. After his release in 1975, Bunker appeared in 19 films, including Reservoir Dogs by Quentin Tarantino.
Bunker worked on the scripts of the films “Fight Factory”, “Runaway Train” by Andrei Konchalovsky, was a technical consultant on the film “Fight”. He is the author of the novels “Man to man wolf”, “Furious beast”, “Foot Farm”, “Sad baby”.
Bunker’s debut novel, Probation, was dedicated to the story of a thief who was prematurely released from prison, who was kept alive by a police officer responsible for a former prisoner. In 1978, this novel was filmed with Dustin Hoffman in the title role.
His last book was his memoir, Education of a Felon, written in 2000.
Edward Bunker had diabetes and died after undergoing surgery in 2005 at the age of 71.
