This Spanish actress was born in Madrid on September 15, 1945. Carmen Maura belongs to the well-known and influential family of Spain. Among the representatives of this name are many politicians, lawyers, artists and other public figures. Little is known about Carmen Maura’s childhood and adolescence, except that she studied at the School of Fine Arts, and her subjects were philosophy and literature. In 1964, the husband of the actress became the lawyer Francisco Fortesa, from whom Maura gave birth to daughter Carmen and son Pablo. A prosperous marriage at first did not justify the hopes of the celebrity and after about 6 years, in 1970, the couple divorced.
Her first film was The Man in Hiding. After 7 years, she played a larger and more famous role in the film Paper Tigers. Maura's main role was dramatic, but some of the characters she played were comedy films, such as the film Sal gorda, filmed in 1984, Se infiel y no mires con quién, presented to audiences a year later. The film, which brought Maura great fame in Spain, is called Pepi, Lucy, Bohm and the rest of the girls, it was directed by Pedro Almodovar. He liked the actress so much that in the same year the director invited Carmen Maura to his next film, called “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”, for the role in which in November 1988 the actress was awarded the “Felix” prize.
After the filming of this picture, Maura did not collaborate with Almodovar for about 10 years. Their joint activities were resumed only in 2006, meeting again on the set of the movie “Return”. In it, Maura starred with Penelope Cruz. Both actresses received a prize for their professional and talented performance in this film at the Cannes Film Festival.
