American theater, television and film actor Jeffrey Wright was born on December 7, 1965 in Washington, D.C. (USA). Jeffrey's mom worked as a lawyer. The young man, having successfully graduated from high school, decided to continue his studies and entered Amherst College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science. His plans for the future included further training in the legal profession, but very soon the smart guy changed his mind and went to acting courses. Wright entered the corresponding specialty in one of the universities of New York, soon dropped out and engaged in an acting career seriously and for a long time.
The talented young man was quickly noticed when he began performing on the stages of Washington and New York. In 1990, the actor was invited to shoot the film Presumption of Innocence, in which Wright was assigned a large and serious role - he starred on the same set with the famous actor Harrison Ford, who played the main role in the film. In 1991, Jeffrey joined the cast of John Houseman, who toured the country with productions of Midsummer Night's Dream and Snake Knot. The actor was torn between working in the theater and filming in the movies. He liked the acting profession, he felt equally good and confident both on the stage and in front of the cameras on film sets.
In 1994, Wright took part in the famous production of Tony Kashner’s Angels in America. There, the actor miraculously played the role of a gay nurse who cared for a homophobe dying of AIDS. It was this role that brought the actor the first Tony Award in the category “Best Actor in an Artistic Production”.
In 1996, a real breakthrough occurred in the biography of the actor: he so perfectly and truthfully played the role of the artist Jean Basquet in the film Basquet that he received many positive reviews from film critics, as well as popularity among the audience.
In the late 90s, Jeffrey played several serious and memorable roles. These were the main roles and supporting roles in such films as “Celebrity”, “Boycott”,
Shaft and others. For the role of Luther King, the actor received many positive reviews and an “AFI” award.
