Terrence Frederick Malik is an American director and screenwriter, was born on November 30, 1943 in the family of Emil Malik and his wife Irena. Place of birth: Ottawa (Illinois) or Waco (Texas). My father was an oil company manager. His parents had two more sons, but both died at an early age. Malik's family moved frequently and eventually settled in Austin, Texas. My father was an oil company manager. His parents had two more sons, but both died at an early age. Malik's family moved frequently and eventually settled in Austin, Texas. After graduating from St. Stephen High School, Malik attended Harvard University, where he studied philosophy, and graduated with honors in 1965. He then continued his studies at Oxford, but due to disagreements with his supervisor, he left him without obtaining a degree.
In 1969, after returning to the United States, Malik taught philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the same year, Malik became a student at the American Film Institute, where he received a master’s degree in fine arts. Malik's directorial debut was a film
"Wastes" (1973). For directing the film
Days of Harvest Malik received the prize of the Cannes Festival and the Oscar. In 1989, he finished the script for a war drama.
The thin red line" . The film brought Malik the Golden Bear. Malik's film "The Tree of Life" was presented at the Cannes Festival in 2011 and won the main prize. He was included in the 10 best films of 2011. The film also received the Palme d'Or.
In 1985, Malik married Michelle Morette. After 13 years together, they divorced in 1998. After the divorce, the director married Alexandra Wallace for the third time. The first wife was Jill Jakes.
There is very little information about Malik, as he leads a reclusive lifestyle, does not communicate with journalists, refuses to give interviews. Even in the contracts for the production of films there is a clause prohibiting him from engaging in advertising campaigns and using his photos.
