He began his career as a journalist, writing articles about cinema. His analytical appearances in American Films and Millimeter attracted the attention of producer Michael Laughlin, who attracted him to the script work. Together they created the script for the fantastic film Strange Behavior (1981), which became a cult hit and spawned the unofficial sequel to Strange Invaders (1983). In 1987, Bill Condon made his debut as a director, directing the film Sister, Sister with Jennifer Jason Lee, Judith Ivey and Eric Stolz. He also co-authored the script. In the future, Condon put films on television, wrote scripts, including for the detective “The Illusion of Murder-2” (1991), in 1995 he shot the thriller “Candyman-2”. In 1998, he took on the production of the drama “Gods and Monsters”, telling about the last days of the English director James Whale, the creator of films about Frankenstein. The film was a success with both viewers and film specialists, and Condon won the Oscar for best screenplay. In 2002, he was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his work on the musical Chicago (2002). In 2004, Bill Condon directed the biopic Kinsey, about a biologist who, with his revolutionary study of male sexual behavior, shocked American society in 1948.
