"Fiddler on the Roof" Cinematographer Oswald Morris was one of the most prominent filmmakers of the twentieth century.
He was born on 22 November 1915 in Hillingdon in Middlesex County, part of Greater London since 1965. At the age of 17, he started working at Wembley Studios, which produced low-budget films. Starting with a boy with a flap, he gradually rose to assistant operator. During the war, Morris left his job at the film studio and went to fight, flew a bomber, received several orders. Then, in January 1946, he returned to cinema, coming to work at Pinewood Studios. Since that time, he began his successful career, during which he collaborated with many prominent directors of his time, including Tony Richards, John Houston. Stanley Kubrick, Sidney Lumet.
In addition to one Oscar win, Oswald, who was nicknamed "Ossie" or "The Wasp," had two more nominations for the award, for Oliver and Wiz, as well as 7 BAFTA Award nominations, 3 of which he won and the fourth received as Person of the Year. Another award – the Order of the British Empire – the operator received from the hands of the Queen.
In general, he worked in cinema for more than sixty years. He died at the age of 98 on March 17, 2014.
