David Wakeling is an English rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as the soloist and songwriter of the Scariwave band The Beat, which in the United States is called the English Beat. The musician was born on February 19, 1956 in Birmingham. He began an active musical career in 1978, becoming one of the founders of the band The Beat. After the band broke up in 1983, David formed a new band that lasted until 1986.
