Hungarian film and theater director Peter Gothar was born on August 28, 1947 in Pec. Gotar studied at different universities, never finishing them. He spent one year in an agricultural and, later, food institute, dropping out and began working in television. Already in 1968, he became an assistant director and decided to get an education in the field of film art. In 1975, Peter Gothar graduated from the Budapest Higher School of Theatre and Film. While studying, he makes short films, one of which was the film “Joy Delivered” (1974).
The fate of director Peter Gothar is closely connected with the theater. Throughout his career, he staged performances, and in 1979-1992 became the chief director of the theater in Kaposhvar. Gautar has repeatedly worked abroad, producing performances in other theaters. An example was the play “Trap” based on Tadeusz Ruzevic, presented in Torun.

Later, Peter Gothar received many awards for his stunning films, distinguished by a special directorial flight and vision of the world. Film critics single out the 1996 film Vaska Nemeshaev, which allowed Gautar to receive three awards: the main prize and the award for best director of the Hungarian Film Week, as well as the award for best director at the Karlovy Vary IFF.
Peter Gautar is one of the few directors who achieved success, starting from small and all his works showed extraordinary talent and unusual views on film art and the world in general. /
