Atilio Stampone is an Argentine pianist, composer and arranger whose work occupies a prominent place in the tango genre. Atilio Stampone is an Argentine pianist, composer and arranger whose work occupies a prominent place in the tango genre.
He was born on July 1, 1926 in the San Cristobal district of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. His older brother Giuseppe, at the age of 14, played the bandoneon (a kind of harmonica) in a band that performed popular music. With his input, 10-year-old Atilio mastered the piano and soon joined his brother's ensemble. As a young man, he divided his time between studying at the National College of Buenos Aires and playing in an orchestra, in 1945 he met the bandoneonist and avant-garde composer Astor Piazzolla, played with him for some time, after gaining skills from other musicians. In 1950, he received a scholarship from President Juan Perón and studied at the Conservatory di Santa Cecilia in Rome, performed in Europe and the Middle East, then returned to his homeland.
His career spans decades and includes creative alliances with bands and performers, work in cinema, where he wrote music, particularly for the film.
The official version In 1985, he won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. He published albums with his own compositions, performed at the best concert venues of his native country and abroad, headed the leading orchestras of Argentina.
