Eduard Vladimirovich Topol is a famous film playwright, writer, director and producer. Edward was born in Baku, USSR, on October 8, 1938. The boy’s childhood was difficult, as he grew up in Siberia in the evacuation, then his family moved to Poltava, where they lived until 1953.

After receiving secondary education, Edward entered the script faculty of VGIK in the workshop of N. Manevich. He graduated in 1965. Starting in 1957, he published his poems in local newspapers. After graduation he worked in the editorial office of the newspaper “Socialist Sumgait”, then in the newspaper “Baku Worker”. In parallel, he collaborated with the editorial board of Literaturnaya Gazeta and Komsomolskaya Pravda.
His works were published in such popular magazines as “Neva” and “Youth”. Most readers know his books: “Chinese Passage”, “Alien Face”, “Moscow Flight”, “Intimate Connections”.
In 1968, he debuted as a screenwriter with the film “Where the Long Winter is”, then in 1971, the second film “The Sea of Our Hope” was released. Filming followed: “Discovery”, “Minors”, “Junga of the Northern Fleet” and others. In 1974, the director was awarded the award of the Central Committee of the Komsomol "Scarlet Carnation" for the film
"Young of the Northern Fleet" .
Eduard Topol is also the author of popular erotic novels “Russia in Bed” and “Innocent Nastya”.
In 1978, the screenwriter and writer emigrated to America in one person and 5 years later received citizenship. He debuted in Western literature in 1983 with a novel called Red Square, followed by Red Snow and Journalist for Brezhnev. For a short time Eduard Topol worked as a co-author of Friedrich Nezansky.
In 2005, he received the Moscow Government Award “Together with Russia” for the development of Russian literature abroad.
