Uriah Heep, a British rock band, was formed in 1969 in London. The name of the group is associated with the name of one of the characters in the novel “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens. The origins of Uriah Heep include producer Jerry Bohn, who invites keyboardist Ken Hensley, former member of The Gods and Toe Fat, to become a member of Spice, later renamed Uriah Heep. Although the composition of the latter has changed many times in the future, the “gold” is considered the quintent, including vocalist David Byron, guitarist Mick Box, keyboardist Ken Hensley, drummer Lee Kerslake and bassist Gary Tain.
Uriah Heep came to prominence in 1971 with the release of their third studio album, Look at Yourself. According to the producer, it was in this work that the vague ideas of previous discs formed into real pearls. The title song "July Morning" becomes a hit. The next two albums combine mystical themes and poems inspired by works in the genre of fantasy. "Demons and Wizards" reaches number twenty on the national chart. The single "Easy Livin'" hits the American charts. The Magician's Birthday album is considered by some to be an improved version of the previous one. These three works of the early 70s are considered to be the best hardrock albums.
In the late 70s, a number of problems appeared in the group. Tain dies of a drug overdose, and Byron's alcohol problems worsen, which is soon fired. In 1981-1982, the group ceased to exist, but later resumed activities through the efforts of Bonx. In 1982, the album "Abominog" was released. Later, Uriah Heep performed in the USSR, GDR and Bulgaria. The 1991 album Different World received mixed reviews. In the late 90s, the band returned to the sound of the early 70s. In 2008, the release of the album "Wake The Sleeper", in which the group on the one hand retains its corporate identity, on the other - indicates an opportunity for further growth. /
