Polish writer. The daughter of a rich landlord. She was educated in the Warsaw boarding house (1852-1857). Published since 1866, Ozheszko’s early novels and novels (Pan Graba, 1869; March, 1873, etc.) are devoted to the struggle of women for human dignity and social emancipation. The main theme of her work was the decomposition of the patriarchal landlord order, the rise of the bourgeoisie: the novels “Eli Makover” (1874-1875), “The Brokhvich Family” (1876) and others. Until the 80s, Ozheshko was characterized by so-called tendentious genres ("a story with a thesis", "a story with a thesis"). Received recognition "Meir Ezofovich" (1878), stories collection "From different spheres" (vol. 1-3, 1879-1882), stories from the life of the Belarusian peasants "Nizina" (1883), "Dzurji" (1885) and "Kham" (1888). The synthesis of Ozheshko’s creative achievements was the novel “Above the Neman” (1887), in which the degraded nobility was contrasted with hardworking farmers, faithful to the national-patriotic traditions of the era of the Polish uprising of 1863. Among Ozheshko’s latest works are the novel Argonauts (1899) and the collection of short stories Gloria victis (1910). Prose Ozheszko is one of the peaks of Polish realism of the XIX century.
