Constantly engaged in self-education, Abraham managed to successfully pass exams and obtain permission to practice law. He was elected a member of the Illinois Legislative Assembly and served in the House of Representatives. In 1858, he was nominated for the post of U.S. Senator, but lost the election.
In the 1860 presidential election, Abraham Lincoln won a landslide victory and became the 16th President of the United States. He reformed the executive branch and initiated the abolition of slavery throughout the United States.
Abraham Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865, and became a national hero after his death. /
