Masters of their craft It's an amazing show! I just finished watching, and honestly, I have no words of delight! I haven’t seen anything like it in a long time, even though American television has been on the rise for years. In general, one of the best TV shows I have ever watched, and in its genre – perhaps the best.
Now I will try to justify my enthusiasm. Interesting, professional, atmospheric, stylish series with excellent humor and musical component. In addition, the acting at the top – a team of famous actors embodied on the screen a group of brilliant thieves who equally easily rob art galleries and cars of collectors, while deftly leading the nose of the police and the FBI, leading the investigation, throwing them false evidence and knocking detectives off the trail. I was doubly pleased to watch the work of the “high-class thieves”, because among them two of my favorite actors – Simon Baker and Johnny Lee Miller – perfectly embodied on the screen the images of bosom friends, not on ceremony with each other (see the scene of their first meeting, turned into a fight), but at the same time real, loyal and helpful to each other in any situation.
If you compare "Smith" (I am somehow more impressed by this name) with other films/series of the same "thieve genre", then this mini-series will give odds to any of them - take the same overly pathetic "Ocean's Eleven" or childishly naive "Impact" (in Russian - "The Robbery"). The latter, even just rests with his frivolity and unreality of what is happening on the screen. It's at the highest level. The series has only one drawback:
How could it be closed after seven such cool episodes?
Moreover, it was closed, not even finished, judging by the events of the “last” series, where the next case of our professional thieves is just beginning. What guided the creators and bosses of the channel, making such a stupid decision – I do not know. Maybe there were their nuances, for example, one of the actors was busy in another film on the big screen, but all this seems trivial and looks unconvincing before the quite logical prospect of continuing such a high-quality series. It’s very disappointing, the last time I was so upset was when Borgia was closed after season 3 in the summer.
How can you understand the logic of television, when great projects are curtailed, and frankly talentless or sliding into the abyss of the series are extended for 9-10 seasons? Make a good, interesting, spectacular movie, develop the idea and bring it to a logical end, and then you do not need any chase for profit and ratings, as all this will come of itself if you do everything right. At some stage, a well-thought-out story begins to live its own life, and you can no longer weave into the plot what you want - the story will develop itself, and in the end it will end correctly, as it should, even if the finale is sad or tragic.
In this project, the continuation begged like never before and nowhere else, the story is interesting, the performance is professional, the amazing atmosphere and style - take the same moment with the races on bikes, which arranged Jeff, the hero of Simon Baker - what else is needed in order to shoot at least one full season? At least out of respect for the audience, for fans of the series, and for themselves, their work. I have not felt such admiration and disappointment at the same time, probably just with the closing of the beautiful historical series “Borgia”.
