In fact, in general, it is rare to see at least one film that focuses on the emancipation of women as its main theme. Of course, some directors and screenwriters paid attention to historical processes that became a natural prerequisite for women’s equality. However, only a single number of paintings focused on the emancipation of women in their personal lives. One of these paintings was the work of Sam Wood “Kitty Foyle”.
Synopsis A young employee of an elite perfume store Kitty Foyle unexpectedly receives a proposal from her young man, which she gladly accepts. However, all plans suddenly change with the appearance, or rather, with the return of her old love in the person of the representative of the highest Philadelphia light Wyn Strafford, whom Kitty again confesses in his sincere feelings and offers her to escape to South America. Not knowing in whose favor to make your choice, Kitty his past, the story of a real but tragic love, which brought the heroine as much happiness and a lot of unbearable pain.
Game of actors Since the plot focuses on the main character, the entire cast can be distinguished only Ginger Rogers, who played the role of Kitty Foyle. To be honest, this character caused me ambiguous feelings. On the one hand, her image is a compilation of fortitude, determination and self-belief, but on the other hand, Kitty can irritate the viewer with her excessive naivety in her personal life and blind faith in a fairy-tale white prince. However, I want to repeat that Kitty Foyle is a very strong character who fights for life and does not give up, despite the excruciating pain that sometimes brings her life, including the deaths of relatives. If I single out one of the secondary characters, then I would stop at Ernest Cossart, who played the role of Kitty’s father.
Directorship In fact, the direction of “Kitty Foyle” occupies a significant place in the overall construction of the picture, since the director focuses on the story of Kitty herself to understand what prevents her from making an accurate choice between two young people, for each of whom she has very strong feelings. In general, the picture, despite the fact that it was shot by a male director, has a considerable amount of feminism. The director even begins the film by describing the emancipation of women, and what they achieved as a result. We can say that Kitty Foyle is a movie about double standards, because we can both condemn the main character and admire.
Scenario The plot of the picture is built on the main action and successive flashbacks. The main character unexpectedly receives an offer from her young man-doctor, but then there is an old love for which the heroine had to make sacrifices, a love that offers her to escape somewhere far away. Kitty accepts this offer, but her conscience appeals to her in the face of Kitty’s reflection in the mirror. This incarnation of conscience takes the heroine into the memories to show her where she made mistakes, so that she did not come to it again. Why is the subject of the painting related to women? The main heroine made rash decisions on incitement, and not on the command of the heart and mind. She finally had the opportunity to make her own decision.
Result I cannot and will not say that Kitty Foyle is something incredible and unforgettable, but it is not an amateur film, because it is very simple and understandable, although it has a hidden meaning. Anyway, this movie is worth seeing at least for the sake of actress Ginger Rogers, who will amaze you not only with her beauty, but also with a magnificent game.
