The series has a beautiful picture and a funny protagonist, sticking his nose in all other people's affairs for the sake of interest.
Unfortunately, with the books of Agatha Christie, the series has little in common. Miss Marple is just funny, whereas in the books from her blows a special vibe, where she seems to find fault with the little things, but finds the truth. When you read the book, you get the impression of a pleasant England, a mysterious mystery, a dexterous resolution of it and a pleasant protagonist, in books it is difficult to understand who the real criminal is.
In the series, they leave only the main idea of a book, but completely change the content, characters of the characters, making the police more vile, but at the same time add stories about the betrayals and love of secondary heroes, in many episodes, add inappropriate and unforeseen by the book love lines and unnecessary kisses, which only loads the picture, but at the same time throws out the main storylines to add “spectacles”, although in fact they add only delicacy, making a barr under everything the usual detective series. Moments like changing a killer or inventing a new one are normal. Who is the killer in the series is often clear in the first half of the film, when in the books, you investigate and resort to logic to the last.
If you are not a fan of books, then you will like the series, but if you read books, then this series is a great reason to be outraged by the nonsense added to it.
The atmosphere of the English village is well conveyed.
Miss Marple Agatha Christie is the story of the most famous old woman in cinema. Her image, style of speech and intelligent speech immediately catch the eye and remain in memory. Also, the series begins with a screensaver (winter snow forest), which instantly encourages the viewer to watch it.
The first part of Body in the Library is the first chapter of Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name. All 12 chapters have been filmed.
The story begins with the fact that in the morning in the house of the couple Bentri house a housekeeper discovered the corpse of a young woman. No one identified her, but the head of the house is under suspicion. I was surprised by the way family members behaved when they found out there was a dead stranger behind the wall. They also continue to lie in bed and then do their thing.
Miss Marple rushes to the aid of her friend Dolly Bentry. An interesting investigation begins. It's a pretty calm detective, without much horror. The film has ordinary human events, incidents, joys and sorrows. I would even call this movie a psychological detective. And I would not advise him to look at who likes dynamic investigations, blood, murders – there is more and more calm, there is human psychology, observation of life changes, experience.
Screenwriters, directors, costumers and actors did a great job. The atmosphere of the English village is well conveyed. In general, an interesting, kind series.
After watching the series, it remained unclear why it was necessary to remake the plots of already interesting and original works. Here you and unconventional love (by the way, perceived in England in the first half of the last century is completely calm? nonsense some!), and changing the gender of the characters, and even the change of criminals! Why, why did you have to do that?
To find out the answer to this question, just look at when the series began to appear. 2004, people are no longer surprised by a simple murder in a cute English village, especially, the series “Pure English Murders” flourishes in full, in which cute Englishmen cut each other right and left, and even several people per series. How can Aunt Jane compete with them? As a result, there is little left of the book character, before us is no longer a feeble old lady-divine dandelion, at any moment taking up the spokes. There is no trace of the spirit of good old England. Now we see how a lively person of the beginning of retirement age looks at corpses with an unperturbed appearance and is no longer embarrassed, getting involved in other people's affairs.
It is pointless to compare Geraldine McEwan or Julia McKenzie to Joan Hickson, the first and canonical Miss Marple. It is obvious that ideas about old age and wisdom, about humor and manners in England have undergone strong changes. As in general about the behavior of people in the first decades of the 20th century. The actors are beautiful, modern, they play in beautiful modern stories, torn from the original.
To sum up: this series about Miss Marple is a vivid example of how some people want to make money on the beloved character, trying to remake the plot, rewrite characters and squeeze Christie’s works to the last drop. However, for the true spirit of England it is better to turn to the original source - to the book.
Season 5 has some charm... magical charm.
This season, as always with Agatha, is about love and self-interest, about selfish love.
Usually, after a few seasons, the series sags. The logic of their narrative is lost, looped. Our series, in principle, is always fixated on murder, the motives here are always selfish (selfishness and love). And yes, by the middle of season five, something is getting annoying. There is a certain monotony of the narrative. Although Agatha, and directors, and adaptation writers, as well as actors and operators try to dilute the common picture of the English detective.
The monotony kills the boredom not only by a variety of methods of murder. As they say, the writer worked a bit as a pharmacist, so she understood poisons. She also traveled a lot, often writing off the scene of her novelist paintings from nature. Some of her characters were directly copied from real people around her, one in one or even one hero could absorb the habits and manners of several of her friends. Maybe I made it up.
Yes, our series wins in the fact that its seasons consist of different stories, where only the character Marple serves as a purely conditional link. Therefore, one cannot say that history itself is sagging or that interest in it is weakening. After all, each episode of the season is actually a finished story, a separate film, possibly based on a full-fledged novel.
Probably the main difficulty of all seasons is just to keep the continuity of generations... series in the season, the group of seasons in general, when there are so many actors, a lot of changes in the crew, etc. The difficulty is to shoot every time fresh, but at the same time conservative in the spirit of agate, in the spirit of the series itself. In this sense, the fifth season can be attributed to the masterpieces of cinematography - this applies to any series that survived, say, four centuries of its evolution, not dying, but continuing to live on next season. This is an achievement.
Of course, series like ours have another significant achievement: they manage to stick in an hour and a half plot the action of a whole book, a novel (which readers can read for many hours, days, weeks, or even months... immediately the phenomenal multi-decade work of Agatha is stuck in seasons that can be mastered in a week), without losing its essence, but accurately verifying everything, as it seems. This is a rare gift, like the original adaptation of the Harry Potter books. This is a rare achievement. After all, how many adaptations of this kind did not experience the third part, or even bent on the first or second.
The cycle about Miss Marple is notoriously small. Twelve novels and twenty short stories. Therefore, the creators of the series went beyond its scope, betting on the attachment of viewers to Miss Marple.
This film is a product of this approach.
Miss Marple participates in the events at the discretion of the filmmakers, as a result of which there is a feeling that she is in this case an important but decorative figure. Important, because (as mentioned) the bet is made on it. Decorative - because the novel is not about her and they could not disguise it.
However, not very successful implantation of the heroine is not very significant.
The creators (perhaps sensing that Miss Marple wouldn't be interesting enough) simply made up the story with other characters and other motifs.
The plot is not Kristievsky unpleasant, much more cruel. You could say he's modern. The main thing that is preserved from the original source is the sex of the offender and one of the methods of murder.
It is fortunate that the love line, so respected by the detective queen, between the ideal young man and an even more flawless girl, occupying so much space in the novel that it makes you doubt the talent of the author, in the film adaptation, although obvious, but ultimately not too important. No more than a concession of the screenwriters of the author's tradition.
For a long time I did not dare to watch this series. Frankly, since childhood, Hickson considered the ideal Miss Marple and a step to the left, a step to the right away from the already familiar and native image was regarded by me almost as a betrayal.
But then I somehow successfully fell ill and decided to go through films / series based on the novels of my favorite writer. “Poirot” I looked to the holes, so I decided to start watching “Miss Marple”. I watched a whirlpool, because with Geraldine my relationship did not develop for several films in a row. She was annoying me and that was it.
I'm excited about the story itself. Everything seems so familiar that nothing new can be invented, but still in a different way than in the “old” "Miss Marple" or in the same "Poirot". Incredibly pleasant series with an incredible cast. In the end, I decided to watch the season with Geraldine. Honestly, now, after the second viewing, she seems to me even a better Miss Marple than Julia.
In general, anyone who likes a good calm English detective, be sure to recommend this series. It's really addictive.
According to the detective novels of the British writer Agatha Christie, in 2004, the eponymous series called "Miss Marple Agatha Christie" began. This series was filmed for almost 10 years. The TV series is shot purely in the traditional, British spirit with its cold atmosphere and constant investigations, in which old Marple plays a key role.
The series is full, and each as a separate film. The heroine of the detective, crime stories of Miss Marple was played by two actresses, first Geraldine McEwan, and then she was replaced by Julia McKenzie. Both actresses played clean and revealed the far-sighted nature of their heroine. As for the taste, I liked the first actress better. It was with her, in my opinion, that the series was more interesting and the plots were more unexpected. It is this actress that I have for some reason more associated with Marple.
In this multi-metrics, a bunch of wonderful British film and theater stars took part, such as Timothy Dalton, Julian Sands, the charming Saffron Burroughs, Juliet Stevenson, David Warner, Shirley Henderson, Anthony Andrews, Greg Wise and others. I especially like the series "Greta Skucky". Very interesting and mysterious series.
The costumes, scenery and entourage of the last century were perfectly depicted in the history of Miss Marple. Everything looked realistic. In each new film, the shrewd old woman Marple investigates the most difficult and incredible cases, and always brings them to the end, removing the mask from the killer and proving his guilt. Detective stories Agatha Christie successfully filmed in this TV series, and it turned out something wonderful.
“Miss Marple Agatha Christie” is a British, detective, crime series with a taste of drama and a decent, accurate adaptation of novels. Christy. This British TV present will be to the liking of all those who love such a genre and intricate investigations. Thank you.
Fans of brave and intelligent detectives outsiders, in particular the heroes of Agatha Christie, will be pleasantly surprised by the lack of seclusion. Nothing superfluous: English stereotypes, special effects, twist tricks to keep intrigue - none of this, but the viewer together with Miss Jane Marple can think about what is happening.
The share of humor is, but exactly the same as Agatha Christie, that is, small and on occasion.
The actors all look organically inside the intrigues, the actors are beautiful and natural, as well as the post-war atmosphere - a very good work of the artist.
Each episode is held in a different mood depending on the story: Hotel Bertrand is dynamic, colorful, the camera swims behind the guests, jumps into Armstrong's trumpet, flies from the stairs. And in the Forgotten Crime - family intrigue, and the camera on the family is locked in a small living room, and the landscapes are pastoral, and no one is in a hurry, including editing.
And lastly, Geraldine McEwan's work -- after the devil nun in the Magdalene Sisters, it's really hard to get used to the role of Miss Marple, the dandelion grandmother, at first. But the work is brilliant (I like it more than Joan Hickson) - moderate gestures, playing on facial expressions and eyes (McEvan has amazing ones), a share of eccentricity when Ms. Marple recalls the analogy, but reveals it after the crime was solved, her original method of smiling-not-from-the-world-sego, which unleashes the language - all these subtle English nuances succeeded the actress perfectly.
Total: all films (series) are very high-quality made, and since most of the audience are fans of English subtleties, English detectives, etc.
