Plot. Emily Zellweger is a social worker. One day she is sent to a dysfunctional family, where her parents allegedly abuse her daughter. Emily stands up for ten-year-old Lily (Ferland), takes her with her. After all, such an angel just can not be bad ... or maybe, a-hee-hee.
I love Renee. She's a wonderful actress. It stands out among the mass of standard Hollywood beauties. It's a little bit from Texas. There have been two Oscars (one of them deserved). Many do not know, Renee began with horror films (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4).
Yeah, yeah, bad horror movies, ah heh heh. Case 39 is a return to Zellweger’s origins. This is a mystical horror movie. I was excited to see Renee (and Ferland). They looked good in the frame (and Bradley Cooper was not bad in the background), but the film turned out weak.
Why? It's theme, guys. It's already been pulled up and down. Another mystic that smells like “Omen” or “Whisper” (horror, where bandits kidnapped a strange child). The most important disadvantage is that nothing new has been told to us, although the film’s timing is under 110 minutes.
Unfortunately, the scrap doesn't even work here. You can guess who the real evil is in the twentieth minute. As for the horror sketches, somehow everything is pale and expressionless. I'll just highlight the wasp scene in the bathroom, I guess. In general, passing and stamped horror.
For all my love for Zellweger, Case 39 is far from her best film, but it’s definitely better than TRP 4.

It looks like a fairy tale with horror elements. Absolutely not scary, in some moments you just prepare to be afraid and that's it. The most stressful was the conversation of the girl with a psychologist. In general, once in principle you can see, but not those who are going to watch the horrors.
Sometimes it even happens that if the Oscar winner plays in the film, he cannot easily get to the wide rental and interest the audience. This happens when producers can not really agree with the director and screenwriters, and there are various legal problems, because of which major theater chains refuse to take this or that movie under their wing. Just so happened with a good mystical thriller “Case No. 39”, which on the big screens did not succeed, but became popular on home video.
The plot tells the story of a social worker Emily Jenkins, who is obliged to take care of children from parents and guardians who are unable to perform their duties at the proper level. One day, Emily rescues a girl named Lilith, who was almost killed by her parents. They could not explain their action by adequate methods, and therefore Lilith is at a crossroads, because most likely she will be given to an orphanage. But Emily is very attached to her and is in no hurry to break up.
Having achieved the right of temporary custody, the heroine takes the girl home and believes that she can become her full-fledged daughter. But soon it turns out that with Lilith really not so simple. She is full of dark secrets and is able to inspire around real horrors, which leads to trouble. There's something wrong with Lilith, and now Emily feels she's in danger. This problem needs to be solved, just know how.
The plot itself is not the most original, we have already seen it at least a hundred times, from “Omen” to any horror film about the devil in human flesh. But where there is nothing special about the story itself, characters played by cute talented actors come to the fore.
The main role, that is, Emily, was played by Oscar winner Renee Zellweger and she looks just great. There is no doubt that she can be a social worker who really wants to have a daughter to care for. Comrade Emily played then little-known Bradley Cooper, and although his image turned out to be template, it is interesting to watch the work of the actor, who has not yet known real fame. The same can be said about Ian McShane, who played a detective who is worried about everything going well for Emily.
The film was really good, though not brilliant. Although in this genre it has long been difficult to find something brilliant. In this regard, even the average in artistic qualities of cinema can be perceived as a victory.

I never watched this movie because I didn’t understand the essence and aesthetic idea of the horror genre. Especially such stories, where in a quiet pool of devils are found. I saw something similar in our “Yulenka” with Marat Basharov. It’s a little different and I think I’m ready for this kind of movie. Next, I will try to critique my impressions and share my thoughts on this.
The plot revolves around a social worker - Emily, who is considered a real specialist in family matters. She has no personal life and her vocation is to help children in difficult life situations. One of the usual, seemingly, challenges allows Emily to save a little girl from trouble. In her hands comes case N39 about Lilith, who is afraid of her parents. Having pity on the child, Emily takes the girl to her. At first everything goes fine, but a few weeks later inexplicable and terrible events begin. The tying is already setting in a certain way, but then there will be the perfect Hell. The plot is good, in places sewn with white threads, but overall it looks good. According to the literary criterion, I estimate three and a half stars.
Visibility. In this story, she is not the main headliner, but the work was done well. In the first half of the film nothing special, but only a girl crosses the threshold of another house on the screen begins a parade of quiet and loud horrors. Cruelty rules this ball and the camera, when it shows the screamers, takes a good angle. The degree of tension rises and evil reaches a new level. By this criterion I put a four, because the pace of the narrative is quite leisurely.
Activity is not bad. Renee Zellwegger plays a kindly sympathetic guardianship worker and this role suits her as a whole, but in the second half of the film her character was prescribed a good dramaturgy and the actress plays it off. Jodell Ferland is also good, but her image is quite typical and only two thousand and nine is visible more than once. Purely mentally, this actress emanated a strange aura, moments she really frightened, until the narrative slid into uniformity. Ian McShane in the role of a detective is good, looks good, convinced. In Bradley Cooper's episode, it also looked good. He's here before the bachelor party, because the world premiere took place already in two thousand and seven years. In digital equivalent, I will put four.
Verdictating. Not a bad horror movie, not The Call or The Omen, but not bad either. The film captivates the acting, a good sound of the film, but experienced horror writers who have stuffed their hand will not be very excited, because they know the best options for development. I'll give the film a seven. Not bad, but it could have been better.
Case N39. Do not try to get lost in the three pine trees.
Film 'Case #39' not new - shot in good old 2007. And from about that time on, I was going to watch it. But here's mysticism! - every time he somewhere eluded my gaze: lost on the back of the lists, did not open in the player and eventually died in my memory along with the old account Kinopoisk.
But today I came across him again.'It's fate, he came back and found me,' I thought, and immediately decided to see before something else happened. I was already excited. I was staring at an atmospheric poster: a girl peeks through the door somewhere - there is darkness behind her. She opens the curtain of secrecy and prepares to see what she shouldn't. The description inflamed the imagination, and I immediately groped to the screen. But I wasn’t ready for what I had to see.
The beginning generates a lot of questions and gradually unwinds the tangle, as is customary in the genre of mysticism. Why did the heroine have an eye on this particular case? How is it remarkable? Why are my parents acting so weird? What's going on in their family? What are they doing with the baby?
It was equally intriguing to see how they were trying to kill the girl. Everything is fine here - the atmosphere, the non-trivial way. Leaves unsolved mysteries. Who are these sick people, and why did they want to do this to a defenseless child? As long as there are questions, there is interest. At some point, it becomes clear that not everything is so simple. And the answer to the question 'What brought the parents to the handle?' is becoming increasingly obvious. People die in terrible torments caused by their own fears. And now, when everyone understands what is happening, the whole plot merges into the toilet along with the remains of curiosity.
When I started watching Case 39 & 39, I expected something mystical, intriguing, confusing. I don't know why. Perhaps, if I had seen the column ' similar movies' on Kinopoisk, I would have saved myself from disappointment. But I didn’t look at it – I wanted to be completely intrigued. And at first I even succeeded, but soon something much worse happened than the horror. Mystical and mysterious beginning turned into a third-rate horror movie with a horrified story familiar to us from ' Omen', ' The Call', ' Yulene' and a bunch of similar films.
It seems like the creators wanted to give us something new and interesting, but no, they didn’t. It's just a wrapper. The feeling of a spoiled holiday. As if you were promised something grand for a month, secretly planned everything to the smallest detail. But then under the beautiful cream of a lush cake, you find stale gingerbread, and instead of a gift, they give you something from unnecessary or something from the gifts you gave. The intrigue is finally spoiled: brilliant rain snot hung on your ears, and ' tender' the cake stuck in the throat and begs to call an ambulance.
Feeling as if the baby had been shown a candy and... What do you think they didn't? Worse, they did, but there was fish oil inside! I just want to scream: ' I was cheated!' But you are an adult, just go and give a low rating to evil guys.
In addition, the story of the girl is absolutely not revealed: what happened to her, how it all began. You are simply intrigued, and then dumped on you woosh, full of pig gutts and shout in the demonic voice of a spoiled Chinese toy: ' Well, is it scary?'
Actresses, Renee Zellweger and Jodell Ferland, play extremely decently. And this is the only reason that on shaking frail legs takes the picture at least to the level ' once will come down'.
The only thing that turned out to be interesting beyond the beginning was the psychological subtext in the ending, when Renee Zellweger's main character, Emily, says she is no longer afraid. We are shown that the only way to stop submitting to fears is to experience them completely, stop listening to their voices, look them in the face, and find the strength to stop being afraid. But perhaps for the sake of this bright thought, I would rather watch some drama. From the horror and thriller, I primarily expect the heat, intrigue that allows you to swallow the film in one breath, throwing all your business to hell.
In general, the film 'Case #39' failed to maintain interest enough to be called a thriller. It didn’t scare you enough to be a horror movie. It was not possible to present the good old story in a new light, at least somehow changing it. After all, changing a boy for a girl is not enough that no one guessed where everything came from. If you evaluate from broken expectations, you get a three. But, of course, if you compare with the fact that for many decades called ' horror genre', the film 'Case #39' deserved almost four plus. In general - sour, read books.
Emily, a social worker, is assigned the case of a young girl who is allegedly abused at home. At the first meeting, Lilith’s parents seem strange and very secretive, and soon they try to burn their daughter in the oven, for which they get a term, and Emily, who managed to become attached to the girl, becomes her guardian. And everything would be fine if it weren’t for a series of strange events and mysterious deaths that make Emily wonder why Lilith’s parents were so afraid of their own child.
My love for such films, where the plot is a child-evil, began after watching “Omena & #39; in a distant childhood. And although “Case #39'” loses in many ways to the already beloved classic about the boy Satan, it can not be called bad (albeit in the box office it turned out to be a failure). Well, first of all, the girl did her job, and this is a huge plus, because, you agree, if the child from whom the threat should emanate does not scare even a bit, then such a film is worth a penny. Fortunately, the young actress Jodell Ferland coped with her task. Renee Zellweger also looks organic in his image. At first it seemed like I was seeing Bridget Jones in a different setting, but as things unfolded, Zellweger moved away from that role. The film has its own atmosphere and an interesting soundtrack, which stands out against the background of the musical accompaniment of such paintings. Well, if you dig deeper, then here you can find subtext about the role of women in modern society, the fear of motherhood and in general about whether every woman sees her destiny in being a mother.
Case #39' not a masterpiece, but in its subgenre, this picture is able to withstand competition. I have reviewed it several times and am pleasantly surprised that over the years my positive opinion of it has not changed, as is often the case with other horror films.

“Case N39” is a very good mystical thriller, for which you can spend time. Yes, it is almost not able to scare, yes, the idea is not new, but the presentation and narrative do not let you get bored, and the picture is really interesting to watch. All lovers of frightening girls - welcome to the guardianship authorities.
Actually, here and begins the story, with an employee of the guardianship, which gets on the table a new case about possible problems in the family, where a little girl, apparently, lives not quite easily. Starting the investigation, Emily, our heroine, sees that the family, to put it mildly, is strange, and the girl with the speaking name Lilith looks scared and downtrodden. Emily manages to secure temporary custody of Lilith while her parents are being investigated, and the woman finally begins to understand why the mother and father behaved so strangely with their daughter.
First of all, I want to mention the beautiful caste. Renee Zellweger, who played the role of Emily, played quite decently, you believe in her emotions, thereby empathy for her character increases. In the background, we have great Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane, who do not need introduction, great actors, successfully coped with their images. But of course, in the center of attention we have the beautiful Jodell Ferland, who embodied the image of Lilith. Without a doubt, the talented girl played her role very well, and it really perfectly combines childish charm and some kind of devilishness. A very strong image, albeit again not new to the industry, but in the performance of Jodell acquires a special flavor. In many ways, the film was so interesting.
As the horror "Case N39" is weak, there are good scenes in the picture, sometimes there is some kind of suspense, but, as I said earlier, the film can hardly scare you. However, you do not want to scold him for this, thanks to the excellent dynamics of the narrative and an interesting story.
Getting to the finale – Case N39 is an interesting product, which is not a pity to spend time on, and even more, it is really worth a look, you are unlikely to be disappointed.
I will try to do without spoilers. On the other hand, seriously, will you read reviews of a movie you're going to watch if you're afraid of spoilers? In any case, if you can avoid them, you usually get a cat in a bag.
Dry expounding the plot, we can say that we will talk here about the hard life of one zealous social worker Emily, sincerely striving to help people, including young children, who often for their own good have to take from dysfunctional families and, again, for their own good, to take to orphanages, at least until they find a new family, but it is unclear how long it will take. So one day, when she is faced with some particularly wild case, she decides to take a ten-year-old girl whom crazy parents almost killed to surround her with care and care and help forget her past difficult life. But Emily soon learns that being a mom isn't as easy as it seems. However, if you thought that there is just some kind of life drama, in other words, boring stuff, then it is not.
As for acting, I was completely satisfied. Jodel Ferland performs such roles perfectly, for some reason I think she likes to play such characters, and that is why she does it naturally and with soul. That was very nice. Renee Zellweger has always been cool to me, but in this film, she fits in well with Emily and is interesting to watch. All other characters can be safely attributed to the category of secondary, so I will not focus on them. I will only say that no one is lying and does not cause me complaints.
It is worth noting that it seems to include a horror film, but I would say purely nominal. In fact, it is more of a mystical-psychological thing. This is one of those cases when you decide to watch a horror movie, you get something else. You are not always disappointed. Nevertheless, some scarecrows and special effects are present here, but, as for me, they do not always fit the place and sometimes can look funny or be a little inappropriate, but in general, the picture does not spoil and even help to escalate tension.
The film itself looks a bit rustic and, I would say, naive in its attempts to intrigue, but, on the other hand, there is nothing superfluous, and the development of the plot is interesting to watch, even if you guess where everything is going. I decided in many ways to watch this film because of Jodel Ferland and did not regret, it was fun to see her in such roles, and the film benefits from this. According to personal feelings, the film is not perfect, but at the same time damn good, largely thanks to Lily performed by Jodel.
P.S. I know the name of the girl in the original, but I liked it better in our translation, because the localizers managed to make it more elegant.
I must say, it was very unexpected to see the beauty Renee in a mystical thriller, however... the same Jennifer Aniston, before becoming famous with Friends, began with the horror Leprechaun. So why not, as they say.
But back to our Cause. It became the 39th in the track record of the main character - social worker Emily Jenkins - and did not promise special difficulties, for the time being.
Then events take a very unexpected turn, during which Emily begins to realize that everything is not so simple. Sweet 10-year-old Lilith, whom she took under her wing in connection with the “incapacity” of the baby’s parents, who at first looked just an angel in the flesh, soon begins to show “character”. In the sense that all sorts of devils begin to happen around and Ms. Jenkins gradually comes to the conclusion that this has something to do with her ward. In the end, the action is closed on Emily herself, and she has to show remarkable resilience to get out of this vicious circle.
Such, in brief, is the subject of the case. As for the cast, as I mentioned at the beginning, Rene was not so surprised by her appearance. But it did quite well, in my opinion. The maternal care of her heroine at first, replaced by horror and detachment, and then a sense of duty to deceased friends - all this is very impressive.
Jodell Ferland, who portrayed the “angel” Lilith, just inimitable, especially for her age. Which, however, is not particularly surprising, because her list already had several strong films. To look at its duality was both terrifying and fascinating at the same time.
Other actors who played Lilith’s parents, as well as Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane played in moderation, without overdoing the stick and not pulling the blanket over themselves, as sometimes it happens.
The rest is an interesting plot, minimal effects, good camera work. Everything is in place.
P.S.: It’s a comparison to a similar movie, Orphan, which was released in the U.S. a month earlier and a month later. It also deserves attention, although I must admit that I liked it much less. But the point is, in general, not in this, but in the fact that Isabel Furman also auditioned for the role of Lilith, but, accordingly, did not pass the audition. But it made her feel good to be Esther in this thriller. Ironically =)
The general impression: It's your fault, so get it.
What does childhood look like for a child? How to raise a child? How to be a good parent for a child?
I present you a great horror without semantic load. But not all films are smart. I'm a horror lover and I've talked about it many times. I am attracted to this genre, what this story attracted: my main thing from horrors (and in general from the film it is to drag into the picture). There is intrigue in this story and when watching the tape, I wanted to dive further and further and find out how it would end. The picture in some moments is predictable, situations can be predicted, for which I get a minus. But it's 10 years old! And then, at the time of release, it was Christian Alvart's Hollywood debut, so I won't be scolding you too much. The merit of the film is not only an unusual plot, but also actors who are selected with the expectation of Hurrah!
Actors: Jodell Ferland (Lilith), undoubtedly familiar to many for the role of Sharon from Silent Hill. And how perfectly she plays her roles, living and immersing herself in her role - this is praiseworthy. In this film, she plays a cute girl with a demonic beginning. It is not in vain that she begins to infuriate from the first minutes (the task is completed!). A child in whom evil lives is capable of things that you never dreamed of. And the worst thing is that you can not hide from it, not run away. And already a social worker (Rena Zellweger) has to dance to her tune. Renee - I didn't like her role at first (like bees biting her cheeks) But I was wrong! Renee's in the right place. Her image of the drummer of labor fits into the plot. A woman in her 30s who needs child love. Well, perhaps this is a reasonable woman trying to get out of the story she's got into. She looks at things quite sanely, doesn't squeal like crazy.
The duet of the two actresses is thought out to the smallest detail, facial expressions, gestures, and even clothes! Look at how they dress and you’ll know what I mean.
Someone will say, come on, heroes! The best thing about horror is the plot! What scared me was the baby. Undoubtedly, my 10th is flying away Jodell, then how she says and what she says is terrifying, it is unusual to hear this from a child.
The demon in life has nothing to do with it, because there are such children: selfish children, spoiled children, cruel children.
To whom to watch: necessarily connoisseurs of horror. Get an atmosphere for yourself. But right here it will not be scary, there are moments of flinching (and by the way, mostly unexpected moments).
Do not watch: Who is afraid to sleep at night without light

Good and fear are natural and honorable in morality, but destructive in application. The painting “Case N39” clearly shows that if you have already done good, then you should not be afraid to push the especially insolent from your neck. Otherwise, people will suffer.
As happened to childless social worker Emily Jenkins (Rene Zellweger), who calmly led 38 cases of dysfunctional families, and on the 39th suddenly felt a rush of maternal instincts. For some reason, it was Lilith Sullivan (Jodell Ferland) - a girl with a satanic name meaning "Black Goddess" - who seemed to Emily the most unhappy child she leads. Beating her away from her parents, Emily seeks custody of the girl. And after all, with a friend-psychologist, she did not even really kiss...
With a dose of fear, tension, ignorance and endless pity for the characters you already have time to love for a couple of appearances in the frame, the Hollywood film debut of German director Christian Alvart captures first nerves, and then the audience heart. For experience, for interest, for meaning. Not for the adrenaline “golics”, but for those who periodically want to tickle their nerves, but at the same time also see some idea in the escalated fear. And in this “Case N39” is somewhat similar in emotion to the film “The Key to All Doors” (2005) by Ian Softley.
And there and there, instead of banal screamers, a series of hints, views, words and patterns are proposed that bring emotions to a boil, fear to the absolute, and muscles to tension. Mysticism also appears not for nothing, but in a series of seemingly natural events, in which the heroes seem to be to blame themselves. Only in Case N39 is everything much more global and destructive, because the antagonist’s goal is not personal, but meaningless. "I want, I can, and why not?"
Bridget Jones is now under the name Emily performed by the same charming Renee Zellweger, already by that time the winner of the Oscar 2004 for her role in Cold Mountain (2003), here is more mature, serious and determined. Those who know the actress exclusively from her “Diaries”, will be quite surprised by such a stock of acting opportunities “cute” blonde. And what is most surprising, all in the same character e and features of perseverance, courage and determination in this picture Zellweger is especially natural, charming and cute. Maybe because there are not too fabulous men around who are crazy about her, who arrange and solve her problems?
Instead, in the role of a potential partner again charming Bradley Cooper, a reliable police rear from Ian McShane and a child angel with the makings of Lucifer performed by Jodell Ferland. The images of these actors in the plot are designed especially to inflame feelings of injustice and retribution for everything done to the culprit, but only their high-quality play achieves the apogee of the tie. And without him, the climax and denouement would not be so exciting, heated and personal for each viewer.
Plus to the plot merits and acting is the director's perfectionism, when after the completion of filming in 2006, part of the scenes were reshot almost a year later in 2007 and then changed the final. The original version is unknown, but the current one is characterized by the slogan . Some things are better not to open. Like all rescued kittens, it is better not to bring home, do not tell your superiors all your proposals, or do not recall any cases to your partner in a quarrel. Because the result is the same everywhere - initiative is punishable in life: a the suffering of loved ones, pissed corners, contempt of leadership or separation, it is a matter of time and cause-and-effect relationships. Alvart’s option to leave the heroine without friends, faith in the good, love of work, home and even a car is the most cruel, but because of this and the most revealing. Lenin would definitely approve.
Yes, here it is, the very combination of suspense and an interesting plot, which is considered to be a real thriller! And this work is called “Case number thirty-nine”, dated 2009.
Thrillers and horror movies are pretty close concepts. There's something in between. There are moments to scare, and in general, the film is shot in the oppressive atmosphere of lurking evil, which slightly puts pressure on the psyche and is an integral part of a good thriller.
The film follows a social worker named Emily (Rene Zellweger), a kind, lonely middle-aged woman. She takes care of children from disadvantaged families. And one day, the case of a girl named Lilith falls on her desk. Have you noticed the reference? There. Emily rescues this girl from the clutches of evil parents who tried to burn her in the stove. This is where the thriller begins.
It was unusual to see Bridget Jones (played by Zellweger) not in a melodramatic role. But she did quite well with her and did not show comicality. Also in the film you could see Bradley Cooper with his unique smile in the role of a psychologist.
Children as evil in horror movies are, in my opinion, the most effective in creating fear. You never know what to expect from your kids, do you?
And, probably, "Case #39 is still more to the genre of thriller, because the really scary moments are absent or I am already too immune to horror viewers." There are unexpected twists and that’s good.
Summary
Case Thirty-Nine is a perfect example of a good modern thriller, of which there have been fewer and fewer in the last few years. Fortunately, there is a fashion for disgusting mocumentaries with unfunny babaikas and a funny shaking camera. Perhaps this trend will bring back the production of “thrillers”.

Horror films, where children are represented in the main roles, are very diverse in the plot, are on the verge of psychology and nightmare. In such films, horrors are sometimes more realistic and tougher than in ordinary films, Omen, Others, Whispers, Children's Games, The Conjuring and Asian films about the Siren children, Missed Call, The Call, Dark Waters and others, this more than prove. That is why I decided to watch this film in the hope of the same horror and atmosphere for which the above films are so famous.
In this film, the role of the antagonist is assigned to the girl Lily performed by Jodie Ferland, by the way, the girl coped perfectly with her role - a small demonitsa terrified all the surrounding adults. And how good in the film Ferland is so disappointing the play of Renee Zellweger, the whole film goes with an inflated face that seems frozen in one stupid facial expression, she is obsessive and monotonous to nausea. Bradley Cooper plays the good guy psychologist, the most positive character, overall was not bad. Most remembered policeman, friend Zelweger the most adequate character.
The film does not reach the horror, because it lacks the tension and atmosphere of hopelessness and fear, for which horror films are so appreciated. But it has a good emotional load, which turns the film into a strong psychological drama.
As a result, I can say that the film is for one time or for an amateur actress Renee Zellweger and actor Bradley Cooper.
5 out of 10
The German debutant on "Dream Factory" Christian Alvarta, shot a truly pneumatic thriller, and even, in addition, scaring the audience with the pretty hellish appearance of the actress Joddel Ferland, which most convincingly looked in the role of Lilith Sullivan - a 10-year-old girl whose parents almost brewed a barbecue (in the most direct sense of the word) in their kitchen in the oven, if not for the timely role of a rat in the role of "Chiereindor" and "Jeanneod" J.
Really diabolical in this film was created worthwhile, because those ways of killing, which is not capable of sociable child, would call himself John Kramer, and quite perfectly inserted beaten screamers, in the form of the appearance of someone in the back seat of the car or a sharp opening of the window due to the wind, himself James Van. In general, the attitude to the main characters in the course of events turns to everything 360° and the case N39 acquires a much more elegant "captivating", although without swinging, it will immerse you absolutely in mirror relations and emotions Emily, who adopted after the "accident with the stove" a harmless girl Lilit (by the way, whose name, in some satanism, is translated as "destroyer of the embryo" Light").
The acting game resulted in serious dramatic experiences of the heroine Renee Zellweger, who had to spin “like squirrels in a wheel”, and the heroine of the actress Joddel Ferland, to keep the “tension loop” in limbo to the very credits. Not a bad role was succeeded by Ian McShane, who was panicked about growling-hot dogs and Bradley Cooper, whose fear of wasps, spilled out in one of the creepy moments of the whole film.
Veriding the film "Case 39", first of all, I want to note the excellent work of the casting of the film, which manifested itself in such charismatic roles from Ferland to Leicester. I also want to highlight not a bad plot, skillfully inserted stencils of the genre and dashingly twisted suspense.
I like horror films with a “childish” bias, when a defenseless child does absolute evil. All these transitions from innocence to a satanic tyrant, with competent manipulation through intimidation, look even fresh in places, albeit not scary, well, except for a couple of boom-moments, but as a mystical thriller is very firmly and logically built.
The psychological component of what was happening was at the forefront, so much, if not all, depended on the acting. Zellweger did not fail, it is definitely no longer a cute fatie who knows only how to blush shyly. The girl was also on top, from them came a beautiful opposing tandem.
The film will be recommended for viewing, it is interesting, without a cloaked-sinister denouement, although there is one script cliche, with a belief-not belief in satanic games, but this is not particularly sharpened attention. Pleasure guaranteed.
The movie is called “Don’t Pull Me Out of a Warm Blanket, Mom.” I mean, none. It's kind of not exactly trash, and it's shot more or less on a level, and the actress is so ... famous, and scary was somewhere, and the surprise is present... But overall, it's not impressive. Too little new, too many blunders, not revealed the essence of the issue. I just watched it, in 2015. At the time of its release, it looked fresher.
Personally, I do not understand the general enthusiasm for the girl Jodell. "Ah, what a good girl! Oh, what a talent! I don't know. Well, she did well, yeah. But what's so special? And this aunt is the main character - personally, she just annoys me for some reason, sorry, from the Rimbauer Diaries themselves ... But it's a matter of taste.
Then what makes me so sad about these demonic-themed films is how stupid screenwriters and directors are (like most people, especially in the West, by the way). Well, in this movie: what is the point? what is the purpose of this demon? what did he come to? what does he want? kill people? why? someone wondered why the demon kills people?
There is no end to it either... Generally speaking:
Cinema has long been not only a form of creativity, but also to a greater extent one of the most profitable businesses. Perhaps this is what pushes many talented and not talented filmmakers to move to the camp of directors. Especially clipmakers, who make their debut in the genre of horror films, which has long been an unspoken rule and is once again confirmed on the example of this creation by the director Christian Alvert.
If the next work of the director in the face of the sci-fi thriller “Pandorum” and looked quite dignified and curious, then certainly his first pancake came out in a lump. Since in fact, without knowing it (or not) Alvert removed the free remake of "Omena" with the change of sex of the main antagonist from boy to girl. Since in fact, the film almost completely repeats the main plot plot of the cult film by Richard Donner. Changing only minor details and individual plot moves for the sake of the absence of prosecution for plagiarism charges.
It is sad that being a debutant director, Alvert had to reveal himself as a creative person with an abundance of new and fresh ideas as well as possible, but in fact, he only outplays the stamps that have long been known to fans of the genre and from this his film becomes even more secondary and loses. That is why individual plot moves are known. Actually, as the finale, which turned out to be extremely pop and happy for a film of this genre. Which does not add points to the work of the director.
More or less to rectify the situation is called quite a star cast and perhaps without it, to watch until the end of this film I would not even do. The only disappointment in the cast can be considered Rene Zellweger. I never thought of her as a very strong actress. But then she surprised me. The character did not fit her at all and was played absolutely poorly. So much so that you do not involuntarily penetrate her heroine with any sympathy and empathy.
When as the main villain of the tape in the performance has already played out in "Silent Hill" Jodel Ferland turned out very, very impressive. Despite her young age, Ferland has already found the type of roles that suits her perfectly and it is in this role that she looks very convincing. Good here and Bradley Cooper with Ian McShane. It is a pity that they did not give them so much screen time, but this does not deprive them of the impression of their not bad game.

Case N39 is not the best repetition of the films “Omen”, “Child of Darkness” and “Yulenka”, which looks extremely boring and poor due to the lack of at least some originality both in terms of the plot and in terms of quite a poor number of BU moments.
The film is completely boring, but everything is in order.
The beginning is fascinating: an employee of the guardianship service, comes to the next “challenge” and meets a dysfunctional family. Everything goes on as usual before the “oven incident”... No more horrors, no mysticism, no thriller... talk-talk. The moment in the bathroom is more ugly than scary. Maybe it’s my subjective opinion, but the moment reminded me of the movie “Drag Me to Hell”. But if the second outright vulgarity, then this is just not interesting. The whole film was frankly "dragged" by Renee Zellweger. Loved the game. The appearance of Bradley Cooper, honestly bribed and waited for something more. He played well, but nothing more. The other actors were frankly disappointed. If they were not disappointed, they were not remembered. The game of the girl... coped ... no more than ... compared to Sinister or Omen just coped. And so the film can stop watching in the middle – then everything that happens and why is clear, and the ending of the film is quite predictable.
You can watch the movie once. For “general development,” but nothing more. I expected more from horror.
The film initially intrigued by the selected cast. Watching the brilliant performances of such actors as Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper, especially in the genre 'Thriller' and 'Horror' was doubly interesting. The film is billed (among fans from social networks) as a movie with an 'unexpected ending' & #39;.
Personally, I, an avid moviegoer and a person who respects the quality of the script, in this regard - the film did not disappoint. Yeah, we can trace the storyline. Yeah. Some moments are too reminiscent of other acclaimed films, but. But! For the 2009 film, it doesn't lose.
Such a movie will not increase your intellectual level, and it is unlikely to run goosebumps on the back, but you will not be disappointed. Where ' lame ' plot, pull actors. And just nice to look at the sincerely frightened Renee, at her (completely understandable) rage, experiences ... etc.
Jodell Ferland started her acting career very early, and every time I watch horror thrillers on the theme: 'demons' and 'evil spirits' without her big blue eyes and white skin, I can’t imagine the full picture. Unfortunately, this is a real cliché, which is very difficult for an actor to break later when he wants to grow and develop. Jodell will remain a demon girl for life. Although I can’t help but notice that despite her age, she is a real and great talent who completely captured all the attention in the joint scene with Bradley Cooper. So I wanted to clap my hands and exclaim: '. I believe you!'
Yes, this film can really be attributed to the section 'movie with an unpredictable ending ' Good to see you!
A small addition: It's nice when a director doesn't forget about little things like a broken jaw.
As my grandmother used to say, “Do no good, you will not get evil.”
I didn’t like the movie Case N39. I love Renee Zellweger, and I only watched this movie out of respect for her. Throughout the film I was bored, and I was waiting, well, when will be something interesting.
The main character is a social worker, who was well played by Renee Zellweger, engaged in one creepy business and in the process saves a little girl from her parents. She likes her very much and wants her to live with her. The main character did good, but then immediately recalls the phrase of my grandmother: “Do not do good, you will not get evil.” And indeed the main character gets into a series of terrible events: all around her close people die cruel deaths. In addition, she is experiencing a chilling horror from this girl, who used to seem kind and sweet, but in fact is the devil's ancestor.
The idea of the film is certainly good, but the film is boring and banal. All the time I wanted to rewind some moments, although such a desire when watching the film should not be.
The only advantages of the film “Case N39” is the flawless performance of Renee Zellweger and the twisted ending of the film. This movie is worth watching because of these two reasons. The main drawback of this movie is extreme slowness in the plot and banal moments that do not scare the viewer, but although they should frighten.
I don’t want to and won’t recommend watching this horror movie. It's a one-time movie. I'm sure you won't lose anything if you don't watch it!

When you think about it, we rarely listen to the opinions, much less to the fears, of young children. And maybe not everything they say is childish fiction or things are not serious.
Emily, a young social worker, is considered a true specialist in family matters. She advises people even though she has no family. One of the usual, seemingly, challenges allows Emily to save a little girl from trouble. The introductory part, in my opinion, is a bit long, although it gives a general idea of the work of family social services. Starting in the second half, the film begins to present real surprises in the form of goosebumps from some really creepy scenes. And here it is very important that creepy, and not nasty, as they like to do in the genre today. And the point is not even in the obvious manifestations of evil forces - but in the awareness of the situation by the main character. As the peculiar veil comes off her eyes, the terrible secrets of the little girl are revealed to her. There is nothing secret here to preserve the intrigue - the general meaning is clear from any trailer for the film. So in general, I advise not to watch any of them – to a certain extent spoils the impression by showing many interesting scenes and ideas before viewing. In this film, a fine line is drawn between our world and the denial of everything supernatural, and thus inexplicable, which can cause animal horror. In this regard, skepticism is very interesting, especially adults to children. They're not believed, they're rarely listened to, and in the context of the story of this film, that's a big mistake. It is the difference between what people close to evil see and the rest of the world that makes a strong impression. Despite their active manifestations, the forces of evil cannot reveal themselves to all people. The events mainly take place in confined spaces: private houses, offices, so the picture cannot boast of a wide geography of places. At the same time, this is almost everywhere enough - the more limited the space, the easier the tension increases. Renee Zellweger is a very characteristic actress, so she has a strong image of a woman who believes her life is moving in the right direction. Especially convincingly she gets emotions, such as fear, distrust, fear. This is very important in this film. Other characters besides the main character and the little girl are hardly remembered, although a pleasant surprise was the image of a child psychologist with the face of Bradley Cooper.
This horror film, although it does not leave a passionate desire to return to this story again and again, in a number of scenes, nerves are actively tickling, especially if you watch it alone, and this, unfortunately, is not capable of all projects released today.

It is not her fault that she was not born an angel.
The theme of children-demons is quite relevant in the genre of “horror”. A few years ago, I was faced with another horror of this direction. And nothing strange, but the fact that the main role played by Renee Zellweger, to put it mildly, surprised. Until now, it seemed to me that the actress was created for comedies, but no, she proved herself perfectly in an action movie.
The plot of Case N39 is predictable, but this does not mean that it is not interesting to follow events. As a thriller, "The Case..." showed itself quite acceptable, as horrors - a little weak, but it will do. Especially remember how Emily Jenkins vehemently believed in the restlessness of the little girl. This is perhaps the strongest side worthy of attention. Then, of course, all the cards will be revealed, and the horror will inevitably follow the main character. Oh yes, I like the movie, I think it was pretty strong and finished. After watching, I have no questions, and the metamorphosis of the baby (sorry, they were few, for which minus the score) really scared. Closer to the final and to the end, the dynamism of what is happening will increase: however, the picture itself turned out not boring.
I advise fans of thrillers, after which you want not to be afraid to sleep, but to believe that when faced with the otherworldly it is very possible to cope with your own forces. In general, not to say that “Case N39” is a really great film, but my assessment is firm and unyielding.

Getting acquainted with a lot of reviews for the film “Case N39” I noticed that many reviewers accuse the picture of secondary, outdated and stereotyped. I personally disagree with such statements about the film. Because stories about evil in the image of children, in my opinion, have long become canonical and accusing the director of plagiarism is like accusing the same creator of some good modern horror movie, say, about zombies. “He didn’t invent the zombie, it’s plagiarism!” Therefore, from my point of view, I suggest not to find fault with the template (in the end, the framework of the plot does not allow you to avoid once laid stamps, and the development of events in such films is very similar), but to look at the implementation.
In my opinion, it turned out to be quite a good representative of the films of the genre of “monster children”, certainly a head above the modern “Omen” – an absolutely disastrous remake of a beautiful and creepy classic story. In some places, “Case N39” if not frightening, then an unpleasant and disturbing feeling certainly causes, especially in the second half, when, as they say, the cards are opened and the heroine of Zellweger understands who really lives with her under the same roof. In my opinion, an important psychological component of the picture is very well put, which for some reason is pushed to the background in many films. What are such scenes as a “heart-to-heart” conversation with a psychologist performed by Bradley Cooper, a tough quarrel between Emily and Lilith towards the end, along with the subsequent “game of hide-and-seek”, the final episode in the car and many more memorable moments? That is, “Case N39” goes a slightly different way, putting an emphasis on psychologicalism and, in fact, they themselves escalate the situation, relegating horror scarecrows to the background, there are not so many of them, yes, even if they are stamped, but the best side of the film, believe me, not in them.
In the production of psychological pictures, the actors’ play is very important, otherwise what can we talk about if the characters do not believe. But everything is at a high level. There was not a single hero whose performance seemed unconvincing to me. Duo Emily-Lilith perfectly showed the whole range of emotions and mutual feelings from mutual love to tough psychological confrontation. Rene Zellweger was pleased, quite pulling the drama of the role, convincingly revealing her character and, most importantly, avoiding the case when the protagonist completely pales against the background of a charismatic villain, which was very difficult against the background of a small, but talented and very charismatic Jodell Ferland, about which I want to say a few words separately.
I don’t know why many people didn’t like her game. Because in my opinion, the image she created is simply magnificent! To her character in the course of the tape you experience a whole range of feelings. First you feel sorry and love, then you fear, and so on. To play in such a way that being a spectator at first, along with Emily, you believe and feel sorry for an ordinary child, and only then you realize that before you there is a calculated and, what can I say, very selfish evil, no less convincingly shown - this is a high level. Many have said that she looks too angelic, that she is not frightening ... but, my friends, isn’t that really scary – an evil that cannot be recognized until it comes close? Would you let a child under your roof with evil prickly eyes, an animal grin, and a “Kill” tattoo all over his face? Of course not. But a nice girl with a sad look is easy. In my opinion, Ferland really “shot out” in this film, showing, as I believe, one of the best “monster children”, quite capable of competing with the classic Damien or Isaac from “Children of Corn”. Bravo, little miss, this is applaudable!
“Case N39” is a worthy representative of two genres at once: a psychological thriller and “monster children”. The film is good director and just brilliant acting. It is definitely worth seeing, at least once. Opinions are very contradictory, but my subjective is very positive. I don't know how to get scared - if you're not very impressionable, then hardly, but the film still leaves an unpleasant feeling after itself. Not without reproach, (I agree, for example, with those who did not like the ending and the fact that there is no ill-intelligible explanation of the origin of this “cute creature”), but quite decent and strong.

I want to note that now 'fashionable' to make films with this plot. There was a family, then she adopted a child, who was at first very nice, and then went... Only in each film, this story does not change much. So let’s look at what we have.
In this film, the plot is quite interesting. Maybe it’s because it’s different from other movies (e.g. ' Child of Darkness'). I do not want to retell the film, because the description can be read here.
One thing I can say is that this movie should be watched. There is so much that cannot be conveyed in words. As with many horror stories, fear must be felt.
This movie, I appreciated. Yeah, he's not beautiful. But it combines fear, emotions, experiences and still a fairly normal plot, which differs from a certain line of films of this subject. And of course, a wonderful game by Renee Zellweger, which, in my opinion, performed very successfully (in this new genre for her).
If you are interested in such plots, then perhaps you should see first ' Silent Hill', ' Child of Darkness', ' Omen' and others. But this is just advice, and so the film deserves a solid 8. Since recently there are few films that deserve attention and interesting viewing.
Watch the movie and enjoy it. You'll have a good night. It probably won’t be your favorite movie. But time will not be wasted.
I saw this movie a long time ago and it did not disappoint me, so I decided to write a review. The main character of the social worker Emily to his work to be responsible and on duty of his service saves from the hands of crazy parents a little cute girl. Here I want to say, do not do good there will be no harm, who could know that the sweet girl is not so cute and that the victim is not her, but most likely Emily, only she does not know about it yet.
In itself, the genre of this thriller is not new, where the main character is a strange child, and you do not immediately understand the good he or bad, the essence is revealed not immediately, but throughout the film, and therefore in my opinion it is interesting. In this film, everything is furnished quite interesting and unpredictable in places, the inflating atmosphere and the corresponding musical accompaniment make the film more creepy and gloomy.
I would like to note Renee Zellweger, for me she was associated with roles in Bridget Jones Diaries and Chicago, so in the thriller I did not expect to see her, I can say that in this genre she looks quite good, there was hopelessness, fear, despair of her character. It can be noted that she turned out to be a good change in the role of comedy roles, and roles in melodramas.
In general, this is not a bad mystical thriller similar in the themes of “The Call” and “Child of Darkness”, which is worth watching. I'll give you a high rating.
