Cinematic suicide To be honest, I did not expect.
For more than 120 years of the existence of cinema, so many films have been shot that it is impossible to count them, and it is not necessary. They are very different in length, genre, budget, effects. But such films as ' Master of Reincarnation' appear very, very rarely.
It would be better if they didn’t appear at all.
The name of Dana Carvey will say little to the Russian audience, but he is very familiar to Americans from the cult show 'Saturday Night Live' where he quickly became famous for his talent for reincarnations. He also became close friends with such famous people as Mike Myers, Chris Farley and, God forgive me, Adam Sandler. Dana’s acquaintance with the latter predetermined his very sad acting fate, because it was under the auspices of Sandler’s Happy Madison company that this film was shot.
What is it about? The plot here is simple and simple: there is a family that has been practicing the art of disguise since ancient times. One of its members, named Fabrizio (James Brolin), used his abilities for profit, but after the birth of his son decided to quit. Played by Carvey, this same son named Pistachio is a stereotypical ' cute stupid' always crooked and talking in a disgusting voice, from which everyone will very soon start to have a headache. One day, the parents of a guy are kidnapped by a villain, played by Brent Spiner, about whom one can only mention that he has a bad sense of humor and problems with flatulence. Fistashio enlists the help of a beautiful assistant performed by Jennifer Esposito and his grandfather performed by Harold Gould, and begins an investigation, simultaneously studying the basics of the craft of ancestors.
The worst part is that the film had no potential. Let the typo do not shine with originality and the script is weak, but there is a good supporting caste (Esposito, Brolin and Gould sincerely tried to squeeze something out of this) and a rather funny, despite all its one-dimensionality, villain. And the film could well be pulled to the level of a strong middle man with jokes and gags performed by the main character ... but this is where the main ambush lies. Dana Carvey, who was the favorite of all America during his time in SNL, seems to have completely forgotten what acting is and what comedy is. I looked at his curves and didn't see the character. I’ve seen a man who doesn’t seem to understand what he should do at all, but only constantly turns into idiotic images and endlessly gushes openly imbecile jokes. All these wretched masks, including a pathetic parody of Tony Montana and George W. Bush, the vestments of an Indian, a fisherman, an English lord and this impossibly stupid scene with a turtle costume... It’s just incredible how boring and stupid it is, and that for a comedy film, the worst and most inexcusable sin!
It is not surprising that since then Carvey almost nowhere removed - only in distant roles in his friend Sandler, and average cartoons voiced, like ' The Secret Life of Pets'. This film was supposed to be his biggest hit, but instead became his cinematic suicide. Thank God, though Brolin and Esposito somehow made it out with this, God forgive me, ' Diamond' in the portfolio. But many much more talented actors in similar cases were much less fortunate.
Don't watch this movie. It is not worth the money you spend on it, nor the time you can spend on it. In a sense, ' Master of reincarnation' even worse than any ' Very epic cinema' because from the creations of Zellzer and Friedberg initially nothing good to expect, and here, with other good data, so much disappointed it is the cornerstone of the picture.
2 out of 10
Just out of respect for all the other actors here.
