Copy — paste. Delete. I took the title for my review from one of the reviewers who described the remake of “The Caucasian Prisoner” – the author described the thoughtless copying of the Soviet film. Approximately a similar situation I will describe in the case of a TV remake of a movie 17 years ago, in which the entire script, dialogue and visual series of the horror film Piranha 1978, which became a classic of films about predatory fish, were rolled clean. If you look more closely, the script here does not differ at all from the source, the dialogues are seasoned with the details of modernity (the films that were released shortly before the remake were removed are mentioned), and, as for the visual, it tries to copy the effects of 1978 release, but it turns out such a squalid thing that the eyes close themselves, the film is made for TV, and therefore it is not able to show at least average graphics, but the remake was shot during the heyday of computer graphics - it turns out that we are more likely not a remake, but a mokbuster of films for a kind of a film here, at least the world's are made up for a blockbuster. As a result, of all the advantages of the original of 1978, in this pathetic parody, only an interesting plot remained.
Like the 1978 original, this version begins with a scene where a guy and a girl decide to swim in a pool that turns out to be filled with piranhas. Unlike the original, here the girl takes off her bra before jumping into the pool, and before that, Indiana Jones is mentioned in their conversation (movies about him began to appear only in the 80s, after the first Piranhas came out). But the scene with the attack of fish on this couple looks completely unseen and not spectacular. The scene with the attack of piranhas on an old man who was fishing, sitting on the pier with a dog, and does look pathetic. The special effects are as if they mixed red paint with water and filmed a shaking camera. A slightly better shot scene with another couple (also with a undressing girl), there at least clearly shows how she is eaten by piranhas. The smile was caused by the mention of the film “Shawshank Escape” in the scene with a successful escape from the camera, but the main joke, which was present in a similar scene in the 1978 film, was not said here, nor even replaced it.
In general, as another hater of the remake of the Soviet comedy put it, "doubted". Such a low-brow parody of a great film you just need to forget as a terrible dream, this will help you a true remake of “Piranium” 1978, shot by a real master of horror Alexander Azha in 2010 in a chic 3D with a new brilliant idea and a great visual. The 1995 version could be considered neutral for its excellent plot, but it is not his own, but stolen from the masterpiece of 1978. Whatever it is - a parody, a forgery, or a modern adaptation - compared to the original, there are no advantages to this forgery.
