I can’t say that I had any special expectations or expectations for the film. Perhaps that’s why I got my pleasure rate from watching. The official annotation, of course, drew my attention to the film, but it was not accurate. In fact, they are misleading potential viewers. Vijay, who is in love with Madhu, is very difficult to get her favor. To do this, he has to enlist the support of her parents, the description says. In fact, Vijay enlists the support of only his grandfather, Dr. Sharma (Kader Khan), in collusion with whom he tries to charm the impregnable Madhu. Parents are the last to know everything.
The fact that there is a terrible family secret, we learn in the first minutes of the film. And this secret is really not ordinary. Perhaps it is thanks to her that the plot becomes not so vanilla and monotonous. A little heat of events gave the right shade to the film. For the 90s, quite thoughtful and qualitatively removed, naive and pathos are not enough, everything is quite vital and convincing. Although there is one heroic moment in which it is difficult to believe, it was very cinematic and far-fetchedly shown. But he will be in the final picture and I will not describe this episode, so as not to spoiler. By the way, the original name translates as “Nature” and this has its subtext. It more accurately reflects the essence of the plot than the Russian version – “With another face”.
Akshai Khanna actually played two roles here: Vijay and his father Ajay in his youth. I didn’t know the actor well before, although I saw him in some movies. Apparently, I needed such a bright role as here to notice, remember and appreciate the talent of Akshay. This is one of his first films and the makings of a serious actor are already visible. I liked the characters of both Vijay and Ajay, both turned out to be charming, intelligent and capable of decisive actions, while the characters are different, which is important in such roles.
About the luminaries of Kader Khan and Paresh Raval to speak specifically and do not need - master of his craft! I really like both actors. Their characters in this film are delightfully charismatic, each attracting attention in their own way. I don’t know what the movie would look like without them. I think the actors were very successful in this role. But I cannot say the same about Urmila Matondkar. She is beautiful and her acting is unquestionable. However, it fades with other actors, including Akshai Khanna, as I thought. Before the film “With a different face” she played a lot of roles, the actress has more film experience than Akshai, but this does not affect the role of Madhu. Like a heroine and the main, but this is not perceived. However, this is a subjective impression and I have not seen Urmila in other films. So far, my opinion of her as an actress has not fully developed.
Overall, the impressions of the film were the most positive. Music, love, drama – all in moderation and not boring.
