The Dance Story In 2011, I watched the movie “Dance Teacher.” Once upon a time, a long time ago, I watched it and remembered that Zeldin was a great dancer. And the music is great. So I did. And was so fascinated by the film, and Zeldin, and dancing that she took and wrote a laudatory poem.
And here's what else to say. I read the play and found out some interesting things. It turns out that in the play Aldemaro does not dance at all. On the contrary, he complains that he does not have an instrument with him, and therefore he cannot show the dances. But he calls them. And the dances he names in the play are different from the dances Aldemaro-Zeldin lists in the film. Some match. I'll give you a list of dances here.
Here are the dances called Aldemaro in the play: Nietzarda, Gallard, Pavana, Furioso, Alemand. And Florela mentioned folk counterdance.

Hota is a dance that was invented in the late 18th century. And the play was written in the late 16th century, namely, in 1594. The discrepancy of dates can be explained by the freedom of the translator Tatiana Shchepkina-Kupernik, who introduced a hot for rhyme. She translated this play for the theater! And not only translated it, but adapted it for the stage. To solve the problem with Hota, you need to view the Spanish original play. And if it mentions a jota, there is something wrong with the dates. Either Hota was already known in the 16th century, or Lope de Vega lived 200 years later.
And here are the dances that Zeldin-Aldemaro names in the film and most of them dances: tarantella, Nizzarda, zorongo, furlano, pavana, tyril-tyril, minuet, pasakalia, gayumba, amoroso, alemanda, torneo, sarabanda, hota; later he also calls serdana.
He also mentions bolero, but calls it bolero. That's probably what the Spanish say.

Bolero is the central dance of the play. It is brilliantly performed by Zeldin; the play does not mention and is generally invented in the second half of the 18th century. So the bolero in the play is a theatrical convention. In addition, according to the rules, it must be executed at a moderate pace. And Zeldin performs it at a hurricane pace.
So I want to talk about the rhyme. In it, I admire Aldemaro-Zeldin’s dance, and I urge you to ignore the origins of dance in the 18th century. Here it is, this poem.

And I put this poem on the website of V.M. Zeldin. She left the site and never came back. 10 years have not returned.
And recently, some fate has thrown me back to this site. What do I see? A user, let’s call him a Scientist Brother, began to teach me the correct pronunciation. Say, although the pronunciation of “bolero” is allowed in relation to the jacket-sleeveless, but still in other cases it is necessary to pronounce “bolero”. He advised me to read books and added, “Books are the source of knowledge.”
And he wrote this instruction in 2021. That is, 10 years after the publication of my poem. Scientist Brother clearly didn't watch the film, otherwise I would have realized that I was just quoting the pronunciation of the actors. Just for fun. This is probably what the Spanish say.
Well, then. I laughed and left the site. I didn't bookmark it. I'll never find it again.
And then in a couple of days I wrote another poem. Sort of an answer to the Scientist Brother. Except there's nowhere to send him. I lost the site! Here's this poem.

That sounds a little strange to my ear.
