At least once, everyone should look at their lives from a different angle, even to make sure they are right.
I was having fun with the service "random film", I wanted to see something spiritual with my wife. And here the melodrama from the creators of Gladiator ... well, at least, worthy of attention.
As a result, the hero of the film owes all his life principles and values to his uncle, Lovelace-winemaker. The hero loves himself, he likes his life, but for some reason he cut off all contacts with his uncle. With reverent gratitude plunged into the memories of childhood, the hero tries to look at his way of life, from a different point of view, without doubting the correctness of his actions. Falling in love like hell. The apogee of this "hell bacchanalia" - the hero learns the most important lesson of the uncle: a person should be happy here and now, and not when he reaches his planned goals.
I liked the lack of “cheap” old Hollywood tricks in the script, which predict from picture to picture, disposing the viewer. This film surprised and surprised, even the comic friend of the hero is atypical.
The movie is good, the comedian from R. Crow, of course not! But the impression doesn't spoil. I advise everyone.
France. Wine. Love. Can you describe Ridley Scot’s film The Good Year? You can, but it's boring. What is a year? It's a stretch of time. It's part. Moment. What is life? It's a series of moments. Who is the author of these moments? God? He is a director, a screenwriter, and possibly a sound engineer. But who am I in this movie? I'm the main actor. I'm playing. I'm tailoring this scenario for myself. I give charm to the written text, give feelings to the scenes described, voice the words with the timbre of my voice.
Why is it important to know what is true and valuable in our lives? Why do you want to make the right choice and believe? People who meet us in life reflect our thoughts, they personify our desires, are a plot, a photographic film, a picture of an artist. These are our thoughts inscribed in a picture of possibilities and circumstances, diffusion in a glass of French wine.
The main character of the film is successful and famous, he has power and recognition, opportunities and desires. But is he right now, is he honest with himself? Why does one letter, one sheet of paper with printed text become a tipping point, a key point, a bifurcation point?
Why is it that what so captivated and delighted him in his youth has been forgotten over time? When dreams are forgotten and overshadowed by imposed goals?
The film is not about being happy or loving. The film is about why it is important to see, hear, feel and remember. Why the senses preserve the memory and the memory preserve the senses. Why the true value in a person is not the desire for success or happiness, but the willingness to change. At any moment, at any moment, everything can be changed. Stop living yesterday or tomorrow, start living today. And to live not “because,” not “for,” but to live. To live in harmony with myself, understanding what is valuable and true for me, what I want and how I use what I have.
Love is neither a means nor an end in itself, nor is happiness. This condition is permanent, changeable, sometimes unstable, but has only one characteristic that can work miracles. Which one, you might ask. No answer. It's for everyone. Inside. You just have to stop and look inside yourself. And everything will become clear.
It was a beautiful film that gave me so much emotion.
He postponed watching the film for many years because of suspicions of excessive sweetness, but still decided to watch, thanks to the high scores of Kinopoisk. After watching the movie, I will say one thing: I have not had such pleasure from the movie in a long time. And this is really a movie, not a half-hour version of another Hollywood series. Operating work, the plot, the excellent play of little-known actors, editing - everything makes you believe in history and catch a high.
I just love movies that give so many positive emotions and do not bet on actors (Russell Crowe does not count, I am not a fan of him and I watched the movie clearly not because of him) or another copy of the hackneyed plot that once justified itself in terms of generating good profits for the film studio.
Anyone who wants strong pleasant emotions, especially simple and easy positive, be sure to watch the movie. At the same time, it is extremely desirable to stock up on a good girl and a bottle of wine.
After watching this film, which has been in my desires for a long time because of the lead role of Russell Crowe, only one essential question arose in my mind: “Well, what is so phenomenal here that many viewers admire?” Russell Crowe? He has more vivid images. For example, “Mind Games”, “Gladiator”, “Knockdown”. In the image of a cynical trader, he looked brilliant. But in the second half of the film, you can put any other actor from category A in his place for box office. There's nothing to play here. All you need is charisma.
Marion Cotillard also performs a decorative function. The character of her heroine, which could become the main highlight of the film, is fast-paced with rough strokes. Therefore, instead of a textured character, we get another beautiful Frenchwoman, burned on milk and now blowing into the water. True, I give it credit - it looked most appropriate against the background of Provencal landscapes. Nothing new brought to the standard story and Abby Cornish. She generally looks here like an uninvited guest, whom it seems pity to drive out, and there is nothing to talk to him about.
And the plot I would hardly distinguish from the romantic comedy Audrey Wells “Under the Tuscany sun”. Italy is there and France is here. I'm not saying the story is bad. Sometimes it's nice to watch a light sunny movie for relaxation. But there's a caveat. How many Audrey Wells movies do you know? That's it! From beginner directors do not expect anything special. But Ridley Scott, the director of many blockbusters, should not stoop to the level of primitive romcoms. Personally, I can only explain it with a quote from some interesting facts about the film: "According to director and producer Ridley Scott, all the scenes in France were filmed within eight minutes of his home in Provence." So let's put it on a sabbatical.
I am even sure that the whole crew enjoyed working in such a picturesque location, which created an easy and relaxing atmosphere. So I'm not going to give you a low rating. However, I warn others that the rating is a little overrated. Don't expect anything special. Just relax and enjoy a beautiful sunny tale.
This is from a number of good movies, after watching which there is no negative residue on the soul. A good movie with good wine.
In part, it conveys the feelings of many people. The hero chases in the fight for a big jackpot, career growth, multimillion-dollar profits. All around social parties, girls, sex and a good drink. Stopping is not his option. He is vain, callous and calculating, he is interested in money. But still in the life of every person there comes a time when it is simply necessary to stop, you need to catch your breath and understand what you really want - is this? But unfortunately, not everyone can do it in time and probably miss the most important thing in life. It's not money or luxury living in a city where overpopulation has long gone wild. This is a small cozy house or estate, perhaps lasagna grapes and an overabundance of not always tasty and good wine, but next to a loved one under the warm sun.
Each of us at least once in his life asks himself whether he is going the right way, is he living where he really dreams of living? Does he really care about what is close to him? But realizing that something in life is not so hard to change everything. It is hard, but only when you change, you realize that you are on the right path.
The plot is not intricate, and it should not be here. It's as simple as the movie itself. Throughout the film, it is noticeable how the hero doubts, making this or that choice, his face is almost always puzzled, but still, after going through many of his mistakes, he makes the right choice in his life. It is only then that he is truly happy.
This picture shows everyone that their views and principles can and sometimes should be changed. This is something that is often thanked.
A film that envelops you like a soft, warm blanket.
It’s a film about our lives, about our ideals and our pressings, about our dreams and reality, about what we aspire to and where we end up, and about how we think we would like to live and what is really necessary for happiness.
English stock magnate Max Skinner did not see himself as someone else, he became a “machine for making money”, his aspirations and desires were to earn as much as possible, to enrich himself, to shine in the rays of fame, to be recognized, to achieve full partnership in the company where he worked. He was only interested in the material side of life. According to Max himself, such a life made him a real bastard, not able to love and trust, rejoice and live for real. But one day he receives news of the death of his uncle, the owner of the chateau in the historical region in the south-east of France – Provence. What do you think he immediately thought of? How to quickly and more expensive to sell it! Max himself admits that he does not see himself living in France, his life here in England, where he is very successful. But he feels something, some vague anxiety, a call of perhaps remorse over the death of the only one, a man Max loved but had not spoken to in 10 years. Arriving in France, he is going to sell the estate for a long time and does all the necessary measures for this, but the further, the greater the anxiety, confusion. Unable to withstand the force that pulls him to this place, in a conversation with Fanny, he exclaims, “I can’t remember why I left here.” I love this place, it's drunk. Most likely, with Max Skinner happened what happens to many of us: the romance of childhood, nostalgia for long gone days, sensory perception of the past with age, or rather, with the transition from adolescence to adulthood: we less “feel”, listen to the call of the heart, now we think more, analyze and rationalize, i.e. work with the head, thereby leaving us that childlike ease, flexibility and spontaneity.
In general, the choice of countries participating in the film is very expressive. What do we associate primarily with England and France? England is a country with a cold, rainy, unpleasant climate, where oligarchs, various famous rich and successful people live, in short, it is a place where intelligence, cold calculation and sums in banks rule. What do we think of France? This is the birthplace of champagne, wine, warm sunny climate, pleasant talk, French kiss, romance of Paris, in general, a place where the heart rules the person, where the sensual is stronger than the rational mental. England is something serious, career, achievement, success. France - a pleasant pastime, rest, peace.
Max Skinner's transformation from "real goat" to sensual romance takes place throughout the film. It is difficult to immediately abandon the past and the present, which sucks you into this cozy quagmire, where it is clear and familiar (England), drop everything, listen to your heart and turn your life around (move to France). But when you are driven by love, the mind has to retreat, which is what we see in the film.
The film is very good, looks good, there are no unnecessary or inappropriate elements, dialogues, landscapes, actions - everything is filled with meaning. How well Marion Cotillard played the French woman! Not surprisingly, the actress was born in Paris. Of course, you can not ignore Russell Crowe. The gloomy slob, who is interested only in money and fame, turns into a soft, good-natured, loving romantic. Despite his many good acting jobs, I believe that the role of Max Skinner is the best in his acting and, first of all, when I talk about this actor, I remember “Good Year”.
“Good Year” is one of those films that add to the “piggy bank”, which is not shameful and even need to be shown to friends. I have to admit that when I first watched it, I didn’t see the beauty of the movie and thought it was a one-time movie. Only when I watched it again did I feel the full depth of the film, it opened up to me like a glass of good wine. I have watched this film many times, but it does not lose its charm, leaving a pleasant feeling after watching and a sense of anxiety. Why alarms? Music plays a key role in this film. Here it is amazingly harmoniously suited to every situation, even outside the film, this music and songs are pleasant to listen to, they are so beautiful and melodic. The main theme of the film is “Marc Streitenfeld – Max-A-Million”. It makes you think, experience together with the hero and at the same time touches the strings of your own soul, at this moment you clearly understand that happiness is simple, and the material that many of us strive for, in fact trifles that will not make us happy.
A Good Year is a film that brings spiritual food for thought and leaves a deep mark.
If you compare this movie to wine, I would say that Good Year is a red semi-dry one. Quite a simple, light taste, wine (cinema), which does not hide anything "in the sleeve", with simple and obvious, but not refined flavors. Without high acidity, but not spicy, and not sweet, which is still pleasant to drink (see).
Positive and naive message: sultry summer, charming Provence, vineyards, romance, little drama. “The Delight of My Eyes” by Morion Cotillard Russell Crowe wasn’t very attractive to me in this role. I didn’t really like his comedic rendition of this image, somehow too hyperbolic. I love seeing him on the screen.
And despite the lightness and warmth of this film, despite the smile and mood that it gave me, I could not help but note that the pitch is somewhat crumpled, played. The action is always balancing on the edge of everyday drama and slightly ridiculous and clumsy comedy techniques.

Max Skinner is a successful broker on the London Stock Exchange. Max’s whole life is about making money and destroying his competitors, but one day everything will change. His uncle Harry bequeaths him a house in French Provence and this will be the beginning of a big change in Max’s life.
Director Ridley Scott has never been a stranger to experiments in film and the film “Good Year” in 2006 was a confirmation of this thesis, because this film is a journey of the director in the world of romantic cinema. The basis for the plot of the film was the novel by Peter Mayle, brilliantly transferred to the screen by screenwriter Mark Klein. A Good Year is a film imbued with romance and the unforgettable spirit of France and especially Provence with its vineyards. The cameraman Philippe Le Surd shot the film in rich and bright colors, saturating the footage with warmth. The camera seems to admire all the surrounding details, creating its own special and unique world.
Russell Crowe is great in the role of Max Skinner, undergoing a striking internal metamorphosis during the slow development of the plot. Good in his role, Marion Cotillard, who created the image of a real Frenchwoman who opened up new sides of the world for Max. Also very memorable and charismatic characters turned out in Albert Finney, Abby Cornish and Tom Hollander.
Mark Straitenfeld wrote a surprisingly melodic and bright soundtrack imbued with French motifs for the film.
“Good Year” is a stylish and leisurely movie, which I recommend to all viewers without exception.

I can’t help but love beautiful movies about life. And the province, the sun, the vineyards and love are beautiful.
A man must accept his defeats with the same grace with which he celebrates his victories.
Fortunately, this is not the only merit of Ridley Scott’s painting. The film, in general, quite trivial moral attitude: material values are not the main thing in our lives. But the whole action is not quite trivial - with taste, in a Scottish way.
This is the story of how a little boy grew up and became a stock market shark, forgetting his uncle’s ideals and teachings, forgetting his childhood happiness, forgetting himself. And, it would seem, all is well – he settled into his new unsentimental life, learned to make big money and create problems for competitors. And then, in spite, died a beloved, but once a long time uncle.
The Earth needs not only rain or sun, it needs harmony.
I really liked that story. Provence, the French land, the love of the beauty and the vines eventually melted a piece of ice placed by the harsh Snow Queen (life) in the heart of the English “prince”.
“Good year” clearly demonstrated once again that you can love not only your neighbor or far, but you can love nature, the earth.
Fanny, this place doesn't fit into my life.
- No, Max, your life doesn't fit in our places.
I liked the humor - there were not only friendly picks between the French and the British. I liked the music – it was very harmonious with a warm and languid picture.
Marion Cotillard is as beautiful as a vine. Russell Crowe has taken another confident step towards joining the cohort of my favorite actors. No matter what anyone says, he knows how to play not only gladiators, and the proof of this is not only “Games of the Mind”, but also “Good Year”.
Joan of Arc?
- Oh, Jacques Cousteau?
It's a good movie. Very good.
“If you find something worthy to guard this thing, wait until it is revealed.”
Great movie. Watching it was a pleasure. I really liked the music, especially the melody that was repeated. French sounds amazing, and the songs are just ah.
Have you ever wanted to have a melody that plays when something good happens? I'd like to.
A large part of the film has been remembered. At such moments, you understand how good it is sometimes to be nastalgic and there is nothing to be discouraged about, to evoke those fun and favorite moments that happened to us - this is an indicator of our life. They open the curtain and remind us in sad moments how beautiful life can be.
I was very impressed by the funny moment where Henry teaches Max not to succumb to stupid thoughts during defeat.
“It is not victory that teaches a man, but often loss becomes the source of wise thoughts, including one that is much more pleasant to win. Life is such that defeats are inevitable, but we must try not to make them the rule!
Throughout the film, I felt like I was somewhere in France, just walking around with the characters and watching their comedy. How nice to know that the whole movie you were code as if in another world, to feel like a part of the storyline.
“This noble nectar is simply incapable of lying. It doesn’t matter if the harvest is early or late, but as soon as you bring the wine to your mouth, it reveals the whole truth, frankly and without any embarrassment. "
I advise you to watch this movie under a warm blanket with glasses of good, aged wine, which will not have time to intoxicate you before this amazing film about love.

Frankly, I hesitated for a while before watching, as I have a certain bias towards films of this genre. However, because of my sympathy for Russell Crowe’s performance and Riddleley Scott’s directing, I decided to watch.
The picture struck me with its idea, as well as a combination of lightness and at the same time depth of meaning. It makes you wonder:" is my soul here, is this really where I want to grow old, and will I, at the end of my life, die with the thought that I have not lied to myself all my life? The author makes it clear that, despite everything, the house is always where you were born, and wherever you are, you still, subconsciously, reach home.
The unique game of Crowe allows you to easily feel all the experiences of the hero only with the help of a glance.
I was also very pleased with the theme of the film, as I have some affection for France, especially its Provençal region and appreciate good southern wine. The musical accompaniment and colorful nature gave an excellent opportunity to feel yourself in the sunny suburbs of Marseille, and the replicas in French completely delighted and complemented the picture.
The finale of the work was a stimulus to my mood for the whole day, because it gives a feeling of completeness in all endeavors.
If you want to know my opinion, this is a very good film for the whole family about eternal values.
This film helps us understand that our lives are not just about money, fame and success. You live in a big city, you make a lot of money, the opposite sex likes you, and you don't care about anything. You're sure you're okay. Then, one day, a distant relative, of whom you have neither heard nor spirit, dies and leaves the vineyards as your inheritance. True, you live in London, and the vineyards in the French countryside. And now your life has to change. That's what the movie is about.
Russell Crowe is as good as ever. He did a good job. Marion Cotillard is incredibly beautiful and French to the bone. They look amazing together. Ridley Scott did not disappoint, although the film is quite atypical for him.
It's also an amazing atmosphere. It's incredibly beautiful. This feast should be watched with a glass of red wine, completely relaxed and abstracted from this world. Then you will have an unforgettable pleasure.
Well, Mannov’s “Death in Venice” as a refrain of this film.
10 points.
I found the film a bit boring and simple, primarily because of the script, it lacks dynamism and surprise. The plot of the film is clear, that is, the meaning is guessed from the very beginning of the story. Crowe is a typical modern American who is used to making money, but suddenly he receives an inheritance from his beloved uncle. He must enter into inheritance rights. But events twist so that the hero has to make a difficult choice - money or... love. Flashbacks in the film decorated the picture and added to it the necessary aura and meaning, and also revealed the special attitude of the main character to this place. A special thank you to the director - Ridley Scott.
I didn’t really like the acting of the main characters, especially Crowe. But to be honest, the costumes look great. I am not a fan of Marion Cotillard. Despite her femininity, she doesn’t have any acting talent for me. And in this film, she failed to reveal the image of her heroine. Although the individual frames are very emotional. Perhaps the best for me in this acting ensemble was Archie Punjabi, she managed to accurately and interestingly convey the image. Although her role is episodic.
In the film attracts, first of all, the atmosphere - the views of vineyards, the sun and the suburbs of France, I want to do wine making. Well, in extreme cases, taste it or open French red.

There is always a chance to change your life for the better!
In the film, we see a young Max, a stock exchange worker with a shark-like fight, who suddenly learns of the death of Uncle Henry. Under pressure from his assistant, he travels to Provence, France. And there he will plunge into childhood memories that are associated with the uncle who taught him life.
"The time will come and you will understand that victory is not taught to man." Loss is often the source of wise thoughts. One that is much more enjoyable to win. Life is such that defeats are inevitable, but we must try not to make them the rule.
And so, bright flashes of the past and an involuntary accident force Maxi to stay in the vineyard where he spent several summer holidays. There, his life begins to change, he falls in love with a girl, meets his cousin and realizes that Henry was the only person who loved him. And before him there is a choice to sell or leave the vineyard to himself and his cousin, that is, the illegitimate daughter of Henry, and at the same time to save for sure the most important thing in his life - the memories that so warm his soul.
If you look at the actors, I think they were great. The main character of Max is played by the unsurpassed Russell Crowe, he very correctly presents us with the changes of the hero, we see how he turns from an egoist to a person who cares about people, and when he needs to make a choice between life and money, he makes the right choice.
Marion Cotillard plays the gentle Frenchwoman Fanny, who at the same time is very suspicious, irrational and jealous.
To be honest, the film was my expectations, I did not think that after watching the film will remain positive emotions, as the trailer is not very intrigued. In addition, in the film, we hear gentle notes of French music, which is so harmoniously selected.

A bottle of good wine is three hundred and eighty euros.
A copy of Van Gogh’s painting is two hundred thousand euros.
The estate with its own vineyard in France - 5 million euros.
Staying in Provence forever is priceless.
Ridley Scott, of course, cheats in a terrible way. On the one hand, cold and rainy corporate England, where you work for wear and tear, and you can not see the light of white, albeit for a very generous reward. On the other – bright sunny France, where under the song “Moi... Lolita” it is pleasant to travel on the roads, where because of the turn Marion Cotillard leaves for you on a bicycle, and the day can be spent playing Fred Perry and René Lacoste. The choice is obvious, and the director, who himself has a chateau in Provence, votes for him with both hands.
The film looks like an anthem to the French hinterland and acts in this capacity flawlessly. Shot on the novel of the same name by Peter Mayle, but primarily based on the ideas of Scott himself, it is like easy guilt, smoothing out conditional conflicts and not allowing serious dramas beyond the past of its heroes, does not knock off his feet, but slightly intoxicates his head. And it is clear that the synopsis of such a picture should look more like a menu in a French bistro, offering “Crow in a painted T-shirt”, “starking in the vineyard of Abbey Cornish” or “smiling against the summer rain of Cotillard”, and more is not required. Doesn't fit? Well, the nearest McDonald's in Avignon.
Fanny, this place doesn't fit into my life.
- No, Max, your life doesn't fit in our places.
It all started with watching “Two Days” in the role with Fyodor Bondarchuk and the unique Jewish Xenia Rappoport, as well as studying the list of films directed by Ridley Scott. It so happened that fate prophesied me to see this picture called “Good Year”, and I ventured to find out if it was really good, as the list of reviews on KinoPoisk says about it at a time when the viewer’s rating of the film is much lower on IMBd.
“A Good Year” is a movie filled with sunlight, the smell of exotic dishes in a restaurant full of visitors, subtle touches to a tanned body, the color of a vine. In short, Ridley Scott coped with his task: he breathed into the film a special French mood, only in his own manner professionally sustained the shot, quite harmoniously in the overall action he managed to intersperse the memories of the main character. It feels like the director has his own reflections and emotions inside, connected with fifteen years of living in one of the most stunning towns in Europe.
Marion Cotillard, who played the role of Fanny Chenal, can not but like. A French woman with her best qualities and flaws. Her character is "very, very picky, suspicious, very, very irrational, and very, very hot-tempered, and she's just monstrously jealous and hard to forgive people." But, in fact, every spectator found a drop of herself in it, and this is always flattering - because the heroines of films combined with the fact that they have a number of "flaws" are very attractive. I want to think that you and appearance a little Frenchwoman succeeded;
Personally, I singled out such vivid images as the characters of actors Abby Cornish (in the film Christy Roberts), Albert Finney (Uncle Henry), Rafe Spall (Kenny).
But that's where my joy at the painting ends. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but Russell Crowe didn't play very well. In the role of Max Skinner in the first part of the film (which is called “before” meeting the irresistible Fanny Shenal), Crowe looked more natural than in the second, culminating, part. And, no doubt, it could be an omission in the scenario, an insufficient budget (35 million dollars – is that not enough?) and so on and so forth. Who am I kidding?! I did not believe the hero of Russell Crowe that Max Skinner, having lived for a year so three in the estate of his uncle, would not decide to seduce his beloved Fanny to break out into a crazy metropolis, and then “accidentally” there and slow down.
Such films I refer to the list of “special mood”. Yes, in principle, the message of the plot is not at all “special” – a banal story of typical individuals. But there are days when you, regardless of the fact that you study the culture of Italy and smooth out an encyclopedia with pictures of Venice, and do not intend to listen to the Marseillaise, still want to touch the French, unique, light and relaxed spirit. In this aspect, in front of the movie “Good Year” you can check the box with confidence!

P.S. Don’t throw too much stones at the writer. Some statements, for example, about victory are aphorisms worthy of writing in a notebook.
The time will come and you will understand that a man is not taught victory. Loss is often the source of wise thoughts. One that is much more enjoyable to win. Life is such that defeats are inevitable, but we must try not to make them the rule.
It's a little unusual to see a movie like that. Scott Free Productions has always been associated with dynamic, dramatic, serious cinema. The Scott brothers know how and love to make “male” films.
This time I was surprised by what I saw. I'm surprised. Light, summer, bright, sometimes funny and really romantic film, while having a distinct charismatic handwriting of a talented director.
Bright colors, pleasant music, sweet Marion, funny Crowe (by the way, he is also the first time I see in this role), Jack Russell named Tati, the aroma of expensive wine and always alluring France - all this together I really liked and left only pleasant sensations.
A really good movie. Thank you Ridley for the character movie.
Good movie The first thing that amazes you in this film is the beautiful landscapes and views of the place where the main events take place. This film proves that Scott and Crowe are able to make not only stunning historical and not only action films, but also beautiful dramas. You don’t need to talk about Russell Crowe’s level of play or Ridley Scott’s directing. Everything is at the highest level. It is worth adding that a beautiful story will not leave anyone indifferent when watching this kind and good film. 9 out of 10 Original
I really liked the movie. Light, handsome, funny, funny - worth seeing. Good theme, beautiful girls and at the same time the most simple and ordinary. But the main character pumped up - no matter how he tried to squeeze out a businessman-nonsense, he was not very successful, and age interferes. He would have been 5-7 years younger.

I saw it yesterday. Everyone writes so much here, but I can’t say much about this movie. The story is not typical for an American film. I can tell you this is just a good light film.
