Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez met when they became quite notable directors in Hollywood. They immediately thought about working together and their first project was the vampire horror movie From Dusk to Dawn. The tape was expected to be successful and in the future the directors decided to continue working together, which resulted in the comedy Four Rooms.
The main character of the whole film is Ted, a young porter who takes over at the old Mont Signor Hotel on New Year’s Eve. His senior colleague conducts a full-fledged briefing for the hero and asks him to follow a couple of rules that can not be broken. But it's easy to see that Ted is going to get into trouble for anyone.
In the first room, Ted encounters several beauties who came here not at all to corny open the champagne under the chimes. The girls plan to conduct a magical ritual and Ted can not do without it, because he has one important secret ingredient, which he does not yet know.
Ted got into the room by mistake and by accident. And there he spotted a strange married couple acting out a chilling scene with ropes, a gun and brutality. Apparently, the husband is not himself and has gone mad, and Ted, in turn, needs to play along with him in this scene and who knows how it will end. . .
The third room sheltered a sultry Spanish guy, his wife and two children. Parents are going to go to a party to celebrate the New Year, and the children stay in the room. In turn, Ted should watch them, but he did not even think which children would be playful and would not give him peace.
Finally, in the fourth room, movie stars gather to celebrate the holiday and discuss their further creative plans. And Ted has to witness their argument, which seems like a joke, but at the same time it is a very responsible event, on which much more depends than it seems.
As you know, the film was also supposed to be a fifth room, but the idea of implementing the script for some reason refused. But even without this, we have four different and completely different stories, which are united by one hotel, the New Year and the porter Ted, who had a very difficult night.
Of course, there are no perfect stories, each has its own specific disadvantages, especially in the first two, but for the most part, Four Rooms is considered a classic worth knowing and respecting. At least Rodriguez and Tarantino told their stories very interesting, dignified and funny.
Four Rooms can be attributed to films that have stood the test of time. The comedy turned out to be eccentric, but this is its main essence.

This film was a pleasant discovery for me. In almost three decades of its existence, it has never come to my attention. My film circle, though wide, is still limited. And with some limitations, I intend to continue working. This film is a representative of a rare genre of anthologies, where several stories fit in one tape. They're all very interesting. Next, I will share my impressions of acquaintance with the tape and some thoughts on this picture.
A narrative criterion or narrative. Crazy comedy of four directors, in which Hollywood stars deliver a lot of trouble to the aspiring porter. The mischievous comedy consists of four novels (each director made one), connected by one hero - the corridor Ted, who went to work on the eve of the New Year. He gets to the coven of witches, almost dies at the hands of a jealous husband, barely takes his feet from the playful children of a gangster, takes part in a strange bet of eccentric gentlemen. But, despite all the dubious adventures, the corridor retains equanimity in any, most incredible situations. And on these reactions of the main character built the whole comic part of the tape. Even if you don’t laugh in your voice, you’ll probably be touched by the slight shadow of a smile. All four novels are united not only by the scene and character of the porter Ted, but also by a common atmosphere of absurdity and hooliganism. Dialogues are all delicious, in each novel you will find at least one quote and ease of presentation of material here as an advantage.
Visual criterion or technical support of the tape. In terms of production here goes from the worst to the best, where the first is full of beautiful priestesses of love and one vat with a potion, animated inserts decorated the novella, but the ending is a little slurred. Novella second set cool, there the operator managed to take a very interesting angle in the scene in the bathroom and the girl increases the education of men in terms of the number of euphemisms about male dignity. The third novel is distinguished by the difficulties of educating the younger generation and staging gags here as a separate art form. It's a grand final and looks enchanting. Rodriguez and Tarantino have produced the best novels in this anthology, and they are a pleasure to watch. Each frame is asked for the desktop interface. The music turned out to be very atmospheric, the composer managed to correctly pick up melodies and many can become the property of your musical collection.
Acting is the best thing in the whole movie. Tim Roth organically exists in the image of porter Ted and each of his replay works on the emotional mood of the tape and immediately suburban understanding that this role is different and impossible to play. Antonio Banderas plays a cross between a huge Mexican mafia and his own desperados, only he has nothing to despair, because his hero’s life was successful. Jennifer Beels appears in two novels and plays off not only an attractive appearance, but also a hit in character, although she is in the background. But this does not detract from the high quality of work with the image. Quentin Tarantino steals attention from everyone and says the most interesting from the point of view of the wording of the lines. Well done, everyone, coped with the tasks.
As a conclusion. A wonderful film in which there is not only excellent humor and possession of a short form, but also a strong cast, competent directing and the desire to make a good movie. In my opinion, it was done. I recommend it to those who have not seen it yet. All health, peace and pleasant viewing!
We continue to look at the best films of the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-fifth, because many interesting paintings were somehow missed. And today we brought together an acquaintance with the film, which is fraught with a lot of charm and interesting in that the almanac format was chosen for telling stories. That is, we will see not one big story, but several small ones connected by common heroes. Robert Rodriguez is very warm to the director, although his films can hardly be called such. They're a little hooligan, a little cold, because they use a lot of this kind of weapon. And in his solo works, he diverges not in a joke. Here, several directors compete in the ability to tell small stories in one entourage. Acquaintance with the film “Four rooms” immediately brought, and therefore I hasten to share my impressions of what I saw and thoughts on this matter.
A narrative criterion or narrative. The main character works as a corridor in a hotel and he had the worst bad luck – he works on holidays. And at this time, the most incredible stories happen to him. There is a plot to describe briefly, then this should be stopped. The whole point of this tape is not in the message or the idea it carries. And in the above-mentioned form of storytelling, when several different incidents are united by the scene and the connecting hero who is here in the role of a kind of co-worker. At the same time, the transition between novels, I think, is blurred in places, and therefore it is difficult to understand when one story passes into another, this also gives rise to the effect of the integrity of the narrative. In the film, excellent humor and this is felt not only in the juicy dialogues, which through one you can strip away quotes, but also in the porter’s reactions to unusual situations. Because of this, the viewer increases the sense of absurdity of what is happening.
Visual criterion or technical support of the tape. In this regard, the tape can also surprise a lot. Take at least the general editing. Each story is presented from the worst to the best. And the most striking in terms of visual delights turned out to be the second, where in the scene where the girl gives an education to her partner in the frame by the number of euphemisms about male dignity. Your vocabulary on this topic is not bad to enrich. It is logical to assume that the best novels are staged by the famous Tandem Rodriguez and Tarantino, in which the emotional expression of the first and the script skills of the second, capable of even describing the broth cube, are felt as a masterpiece of copywriting. Even the gags worked better in them than in other novels. It is also impossible to ignore the compositional work of Combustable Edison. Each of his musical themes fits perfectly into the atmosphere created, some compositions are worthy of becoming visitors to your playlist.
Acting is one of the most delicious aspects of the film after the script. And the first person I want to mention in this category is Tim Roth. Having received the first wide audience fame, after the film "Pulp Fiction", it was not surprising that to embody this character on the screen will give him. Characteristically, the actor was able to catch and convey to the audience this image. Although, we can not judge how difficult this or that role was given, because we proceed from our own ideas about it. Even rare replays are appropriate. Antonio Banderas presents us here a mixture of a mafia boss and a desperados without despair, for his hero’s life is a success. Jennifer Bills, known to me more on TV series, one of them was even paired with Tim Roth, not only outwardly attractive actress, but also accurately performing directing tasks, because she seems to dissolve in her character.
As a verdict. A great movie, which has not only an interesting plot structure and the manner of telling the story, but also strong acting, competent directing and the desire of everyone who worked on this tape to make a great film. I recommend it to fans of the genre and those who have not seen it yet. The tape is worth it. All health, good and good movie!
Because the film is split up, it reminds me of other Tarantino paintings. It looks like a breath. I didn’t take this story seriously, so hookers under mattresses, smoking children and drunken arguments don’t seem outrageous to me – on the contrary, I laughed. Actors play at the level (even more!).
The further the plot goes, the more fascinating the film, each scene is stronger than the previous one. First the witches, the whole absurdity of the episode is that the girl swallowed the seed of a man, instead of collecting it and bringing it to the Sabbath. Who doesn't happen to you? Let us laugh at this universal vice and the fact that the porter seemed even unpleasant to enter into shura-mura from the first meeting.
I also want to say about the porter separately - he is kind of strange, because he harmoniously fits into this film as the main character. He crooks, twitches like a paralytic, acts like he doesn't really understand what's going on in the world, like he's a little backward. Surprisingly, it all looks harmonious, as if this is a completely normal situation.
The next room was a little overplayed, but it's funny, too. The couple is experimenting with depraved games, does not notice the substitution (as it turned out at the end of the episode, they basically do not care before whom to act out the scene), and it becomes clear that they both need it. The wife is the attention of others, the husband is jealous of his wife and perhaps even attracted to other men. Remember the moment Siegfried almost sucks our Ted after his fiery speech. Respect, so to speak. The picture would be misunderstood if there were victims. This is a farce. Let's move on.
Kids are my favorite scene. The funniest thing is that kids are better than adults. They want to have fun, by the way, they have really harmless games - watch TV and shoot darts. They're the first to spot a prostitute - how could you not have noticed that smell before? In general, for me, this is the most fun scene with a bunch of absurdities that overlap one another. And the look and remark of Banderos at the end is the cherry on the cake.
The last scene rightly concludes the film. Everyone seems to be relaxed, even surprised - where are the oddities and new absurdities? Guys are just having a good time. But already the decisive scene with the finger and became that distinctive sign that says - you're looking ' Four rooms' it's so conceived, without it would not be so funny. I was particularly pleased with the way Ted left. He was just tired of everything and wanted to sleep, plus his eccentricity, plus the habit of such squabbles. I'm a king. I wish I'd seen it in a movie theater. Probably standing up.
Skeletons in the closet, the corpse of a whore under the mattress
I am sure that many film lovers have heard a lot of praise about this film. And they can certainly count themselves among the fans of this unusual tape. Not only do I not consider myself in this category, but I write this review to point out the significant shortcomings of the picture and its low value.
Plot. The film consists of 4 episodes shot by different directors. Combines all parts in a single film, the common protagonist is a young porter who gets into different troubles on New Year’s Eve. . .
The first two episodes are the weirdest, dullest, dullest and uninteresting parts of the movie, I don't even want to remember them. The third episode fits the category ' Funny' well, the ending in it is simply chic. The fourth episode became the most ambiguous for me: empty chatter quickly gets boring, but the finale in it can be reviewed indefinitely. It’s safe to say that less than 50% of the movie is worth your attention.
Atmosphere.Tim Roth, one of my favorite actors, disappointed me a lot here. Perhaps his character was supposed to be crooked and show off, but I did not find the porter's behavior amusing. It was like the actor was constantly overplaying and in principle did not know how to behave in a particular scene. Other actors in general can be compared with cardboards: to such an extent they were faceless. I can only single out that Antonio Banderas, he brilliantly played the role of a Mexican gangster.
Humor. The authors defined the genre of the tape as ' black comedy'. Sad to tell you, but about 90% of the movie is not funny. Only the third episode and the ending of the fourth can amuse you.
Music. Good music can no longer seriously affect the final score. Most of all, the melody begins to play after the end of the last scene during the credits.
Result. A bad picture, the script for which was invented on the knee. There is no serious sense in the episodes, the connection between them is completely absent. Genre ' black comedy', apparently, to such an extent shredded that the creators seriously consider their creation its bright representative.
P.S. The film version 'Strange brew' is good because it has a little backstory of Ted's adventures. The ending of the first episode in it is more realistic, but the ending of the second caused me confusion. You can read it for the sake of interest.

Four Rooms, Four Novels, Four Million Dollar Budget and One Idiot
One day in 1995, four independent filmmakers teamed up to shoot four novellas with different characters, all linked to one main character, porter Ted (Tim Roth). The idea in principle is not bad, but as for me out of four novels only two I would recommend to watch. Whether you see it or not is up to you. But before moving on to these novels, I would like to note one fat cons that spoils the entire atmosphere of this film is the terrible acting of Tim Roth. God, I got the impression that the HR managers of this hotel, (there are all the novels) either found him on the street, or he has congenital epilepsy, because he was twitching and twisting the whole movie, which was what annoyed me the most while watching this film. Or he just checked out. There's nothing about the character. Now let’s move on to the film.
Novella N1. Luxury for the newlyweds - The Missing Ingredient. (directed by E. Anders).
Perhaps the most disgusting novel with an idiotic script, casting and acting. I don’t know what this novel is about or who it is for. I saw witches dancing on their coven, naked bodies and nothing more. Honestly, I don't like witches in movies, their rules and customs. As for me, witches are a terrible evil that must be eradicated, or rather burned at the stake. When I saw this novel, I asked myself three questions:
How did witches get sweat for their experiments? And in such numbers. Did they go to the gym 24 hours and 7 days a week and then squeeze it in a jar? What kind of idiot?
How did witches get tears for their experiments? It takes a lot of whining to accumulate so much. It felt like they had been watching melodramas all week and had a jar of tears near their eyes. This is how I see the picture.
Porter Ted, are you an idiot? I think so. Your job is to serve hotel guests, not have sex with them.
I will tell you the following:
Cons:
1. Plot.
2. Selection of actors
3. Acting.
4. Logic.
Pros: none.
As a result, this novel gets 3 out of 10 from me.
Novella No. 2, Room 409 (404) The Wrong Man (director A. Rockwell)
The same idiotic novel that I didn't understand is true. I had the feeling that I’m not watching comedy, and pornography, as this novel shows role-playing games, where the role ' Hostages' took the wife (Jeniffer Bills), and the role ' kidnapper' - spouse (David Proval). Only two things started to piss me off while watching:
1. Behavior ' the kidnapper' who only runs around the number and shakes now and then with a revolver;
2. The presence in the frame of Ted (Tim Roth), who by coincidence confused the room.
I didn't understand how you could get a hotel room mixed up? Look at the map and see where the numbers are.
I looked at the time and waited for this madness to end.
As a result, another terrible novel that gets 3 out of 10 from me.
Novella No. 3. Room 309 - Troublemakers. (Directed by R. Rodriguez)
I thought the idiocy would continue, but the film was saved by my favorite director Robert Rodriguez, who knows how to shoot properly. Novella No. 3 is perhaps the best of all novellas in this collection.
Also, there is a good acting of Antonio Banderas, a good plot, good editing, camera work and, most importantly, there is no drawback as it was in the previous two. Well, good humor here also saves the situation.
As a result, I recommend watching this novel first.

Novela No. 4 Penthouse - The Man from Hollywood. (directed by K. Tarantino)
This is the last novel that completes this film collection. The novella itself is cool, but not perfect. It's in the spirit of Quentin Tarantino's films. What am I talking about? The novella itself runs for 21 minutes, where 20 minutes is continuous and protracted dialogue in the film, and in the 21st minute the action is performed.
As a result, you can see the novel if you like the work of Quentin Tarantino. I have a great novel.
9 out of 10
The verdict throughout the film. The film is bad on one side and perfect on the other. To watch or not? There's an amateur. I would like to see the novel 3 and 4 again. And the film itself gets it from me.

An easy and funny sight for lovers of absurd comedies.
The plot is simple - an unlucky swelled porter goes on a shift on New Year's Eve and all the hell happens to him. As the main humorous technique is used to hyperbolize the actions of the characters and the situations in which they find themselves (except, perhaps, the final scene). This is especially evident in the behavior of the porter named Ted. It is worth noting that Tim Roth played great, watching him was extremely fun. The dialogues are well written, the conversations are ironic and not stressful at all. The film gives a carefree mood and smile.
The only stumbling block separating this comedy from being one of my favorites was the final episode. Apart from everything else, it is not bad at all. But in the context of the general atmosphere, it looks tight and out of place, which is why the smile is replaced by yawning. Tarantino knows how to make simple "about everything and nothing" chatter fascinating, but it wasn't at the box office. Interesting are the last minutes, which fully correspond to the expected result from the prisoner under the bet degree. At the same time, the rest of the 20-minute stream of consciousness of the subject inhabitants of the penthouse passes by. Apparently, when watching this episode in a similar state, it will look more fun (although, this should only increase the chances of the viewer sleeping).
As Antonio Banderas said, “The main thing is how to finish.” For me personally, the film has lost its character. And yet, the show turned out to be funny, somewhere even funny. The climax in the scene with the number 309 caused hysteria. I do not regret watching and recommend to all fans of crazy comedies.
General impression: Mischievous comedy consists of four novels (each director made one), connected by one hero - the corridor Ted (Tim Roth), who went to work on the eve of the New Year.
Each story turns into an unusual farce, where you feel pity for the corridor man, and the ridiculous situations in which he gets amused to tears. In the first, Ted gets to the coven of witches, where women attacked him with their harassing, and you can’t just leave. In the second, he almost dies at the hands of a jealous husband, and this story is absurd and sparkling with dialogue. In the subsequent story, Ted barely carries his feet away from the naughty kids of a gangster, the 3rd story is my favorite. Well, the final from the maestro Tarantino, where all the same corridor takes part in a strange bet of eccentric gentlemen.
This incredible night for Ted turned into a total hell, but despite all the dubious adventures, the corridor remains unperturbed in any, most incredible situations. The hotel is huge, and he is alone, and even what guests, all like the selection of nervous.
The nail of the program — Tim Roth, giving a huge range of emotions, Tim looks great on the screen. His chic facial expressions, compressions, experiences, anger, awkwardness and much more cannot be described in words as the actor plays, it must be seen! I guarantee you the excitement of what you see!
The novels differ from each other in terms of presentation and humor, but the link between them is a corridor, well, there are a couple of moments where the episodes echo. This is a small tribute to each other by the directors. The movie is great, it's amazing that I just watched it. So what's the moral? And in that, friends, whatever does not happen in you, you need to be able to get out of the situation and look for the benefits of adventure, and not trouble on your head. I highly recommend it!
Even in the lives of really talented people, there are times when you want to throw everything to hell and just have fun. In an event of this kind and decided to participate already Oscar-winning Quentin Tarantino, having made, perhaps, his stupidest career mistake. I would not say that the collaboration with other colleagues in the workshop was unsuccessful ... it was none. And if the more or less well-known Rodriguez stretches his shadow for the maestro, like a scavenger over the carcasses of animals killed by the lion, then Anders and Rockwell are some lightning rods from the leading director, saving him from rolling criticism. Perhaps this played a role in the fact that after, Tarantino remained “afloat”.
The plot of a somewhat abstract film combines four stories taking place in one hotel. The edge of a certain sura is reached from the first frames when a group of witches tries to resurrect an ancient goddess. After that, there will be uncontrollable children, a psycho-rolepic fan of BDSM and the number of an equally crazy director watering the expensive Cristal floor in the penthouse. These stories are united by a completely incompetent porter, performed by Tim Roth, who has a nervous tic, a tendency to greed and uncontrollable outbursts of anger.
The attempt to create some kind of cinematic party, where dead prostitutes in the room, naked girls and bets on a human finger, was successful. But as it usually happens, a visitor to such a “party” (and in this case, this is a spectator) does not understand anything, although he can vomit or Antonio Banderas in the guise of a certain godfather. This kind of work is narrow in its direction and this is what makes them completely local and uninteresting. Humor is very weak (although there was a lot of choice for such a format), dialogue is absolutely nothing, and the main character causes irritation mixed with pity.
As one movie said, “It’s not serious.”
5 out of 10
Such a high-profile film, shot at once by four directors, including Rodriguez and Tarantino. The star cast and the magnificent Tim Roth further fuel the viewer's expectations. But alas and ah. Any person who has achieved heights in his work, sooner or later does something simple for himself. Not for high evaluation by film critics, not for making money, not for the pleasure of the viewer, but simply for your own pleasure. “4 Rooms” is just such a movie, because the four directors just decided to fool around. It was the most boring, boring, not funny and unsuccessful film. Indeed, for more than an hour, not a single facial muscle will tremble in an attempt to smile, which is kind of a comedy. This is crazy, but there is no comedy. And also some disgusting moments with licking the legs or a decomposed corpse.
Even the game of Tim Roth with all the desire to praise can not work, all we see on the screen is a twitchy fool. Madona, Banderos, Beels do not save the film because their roles are nothing, and the stories are terribly boring and stupid. There is no dynamics, no humor, no satire, no irony, no action in four rooms. It’s amazing how many people praise him. Apparently, we have the effect of the Malevich square, when absolute nothing by people far from art rises to a masterpiece. And if you want to turn off the movie after 10-15 minutes, rejoice because you are not one of the gray mass of people who admire anything just because Tarantino did it.
A mischievous comedy based on the precepts of Dr. Frankenstein
'The booking would seem easy to them:
Yes, the Swan bursts into the clouds,
Cancer moves backwards, and Pike pulls into the water.
Who is to blame, who is right, is not to be judged by us.
Yes, only wagon and now there'
And. Wings
Four directors of different levels decided to shoot a short film about the misadventures of porter Ted, who was left alone to work in a huge hotel on New Year's Eve. The idea had great potential, but the authors did not take into account how different they are. Therefore, the film does not look homogeneous. This is such a Frankenstein monster, assembled from different pieces, and trying to look ' mischievous' comedy.
The first two stories are weak and, it would seem, they can be safely missed, only a couple of stupid references will be lost in the second half of the film.
The third, shot by R. Rodriguez, looks better, although it has too much deliberate unnaturalness. More precisely, some characters deliberately unnatural, and some, on the contrary, try to play naturally. It looks very strange.
The fourth, shot by K. Tarantino, in my opinion, the best and most homogeneous. Unfortunately, much of the charm of this part will be lost if you look at it in isolation from all the previous ones. Not because there is something interesting, but because only the fourth story you get used to a very strange, sly, crooked porter Ted.
It turns out that this monster in the assembled form is ugly, but in parts is not viable.

"Four Rooms" is a film consisting of four novels, each of which has a separate director and screenwriter. The main character unites the novels - a porter in a hotel, who visited four eccentric stories during one night of duty. The action takes place with a dose of madness and recklessness, but does not go beyond and does not look like complete nonsense, because each story has its own meaning.
The main role is played by Tim Roth. So many body movements, so many facial expressions, you just can't keep track. At first glance, all this seems to be a curve, but then there is a feeling of complete harmony of the image and the atmosphere of the film.
Bruce Willis gave out intonations that no understudy could convey! The role is small but memorable.
And for "Banderas" who can I thank? Antonio himself, apparently! Oh, that look, that tension in every muscle and the tension of every nerve! The final silent scene of the novella with his participation - a simple question of the hero kills the viewer at random, without a warning shot.
What kind of plastic does the Madonna have? It’s also a black latex dress!
Well, even Quentin, so his, Tarantino, the devil, mints every word, looking either into the camera or past. You realize he's looking at you and the guy he's talking to at the same time!
The final scene smears the viewer on the screen and you sit there and try to realize what it was just? But with such a pleasant aftertaste, whatever it was, it was cool!
8 out of 10
Slowly, all the movies have a second wind, you come back to them, pick up something you missed, remember, look at them, and did not time change them and did you really change? It is unlikely that the film “Four Rooms” can be another temporary person – after more than twenty years, neither the hotel, nor the porter, nor the director’s eccentric screams and plot emotions, nothing has changed.
It is a pity, of course, that the tape itself in its native territory did not achieve success as such, being coldly accepted by both viewers and film critics. It is hardly possible to call a collection of novels at that time - a rolling pass to the big world. Here the movie is more for the soul and for the company, and his own. The idea of the tape itself is secondary. It is more like a small concert, a meeting of four people with one company to combine the pleasant with the useful.
But, even if we consider “Four Rooms” a joint pampering, it is impossible not to mention two key factors, thanks to which, at least in our country, the tape found its success. This is a plastic satirical game by Tim Roth and the universal essence of film language demonstration. It is pointless to argue with the first factor - the porter of incredible "freakiness" came out from this fantastic actor. Tim Roth here resembles a caged animal that would be happy to get out, but everyone feeds it so that the cage becomes home. The second is more about guesswork and speculation, but all four directors, especially Tarantino and Rodriguez, at least in terms of influence and fame, can easily conduct a dialogue with the audience in the format of sketches. Their individual scenes are a story, reducing it to a compact episode, the exhaust of feelings is as sharp as all episodic components. And if the full meters of these directors look like a large extravagant canvas, a music album, then their small plots are to some extent represented by musical compositions that catch on the record, to which you can repeatedly return.
The selected plots in the Four Rooms do not look like masterpieces, they have a style and the right nerve, they are even correct in their position, in their development, which, probably, this tape should not be. We want expression, not the expression we see, but the expression we feel. Strangely, but lacking in roughness, this drink should ferment without external control.
4 directors, each of whom added their own style. 4 different stories. 4 rooms. 1 porter. The unifying element is Tim Roth, who binds events together. They do not overlap, nor do they interfere with each other. Allison Anders, Alexander Rockwell, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino took a room and made a movie there.
One. The fantasy elements were unusual, but they successfully delivered a fun performance. Night. Tim Roth is taking over. A call to a room where something incredible is happening. The filming and posing of the cameraman refer to the paintings of Allison Anders. This miniature does not cause vulgarity, despite the direct erotic elements. Comedy smooths out awkwardness, and Tim Roth's matchless play takes all the attention on itself. Understand that when acting is opposed to nudity, Tim Roth’s choice is truly worthy. The ladies in the room try to complete the ancient rite, and Roth is the only one who can help with the missing fifth element. The first room is a very specific, amateur presentation of cinema.
Two. The component is crime. Not a bad staging of a family scandal, which is gaining momentum every time. Drunk husband, tied wife and porter. The action becomes serious, raises issues of morality and etiquette. Tom Roth finds himself in an almost hopeless situation. Curves and comedic message seem superfluous, but this is the basis of such uncertainty, the highlight of the scandal. The character of Roth confuses not only the audience, but also the heroes of miniature, which is why the unexpected end of the meeting is brightened with humor. Is it unforeseen? No, it's pretty predictable.
Three. Antonio Banderas is doing hair styling for his son. Robert Rodriguez's favorite reception. This thumbnail shows actual problems with naughty children who were left alone. Tim Roth only deals with these problems, and he does it in a Rodriguez way. Great attention is paid to everyday details, which do not cause a stir, and sometimes even roll a sense of disgust, but the emphasis on them turns into a great performance with champagne and whores. It's a metaphor ... or not ... Tim Roth in his usual manner mixes thriller with comedy, showing an important detail: whatever the genre of the room, the porter remains unchanged. You know that halfway through the movie. There are internal scenarios of each room, and there is one external one. Rodriguez style: camera approach on brutal Banderas - chic!
Fourth. The master himself, who plays the role, built dialogues in such a way that, without changing the positions of the characters, he is able to intrigue. Tarantino and his room are the final stages of this exciting adventure. More characters, more dialogue, more references. Cool. You have to be a fan of Quentin, understand his work, to appreciate the last episode. The conclusion was excellent.
Porter. Almost without linking the events in all the rooms, you can evaluate a character who has been in different stories, in different films, from different directors. The manner of curvature was both appropriate and not in the topic. But the image of such a person allowed to enjoy the acting. As a result, we have a film-attraction, passing on different genres and individual handwritings of directors.
No genius masterpieces, guys. Not the best almanacs in the world. It makes me laugh when I write such nonsense. The review will be positive, but you will never expect wild delight from me. Cult? Maybe. Funny? Maybe. Unusual? Maybe. That would be enough.
Here is an almanac that consists of four stories. The central character is Corridor Ted. It is worth saying right away that Tim Roth plays his character so vividly that many boring moments (and they are here) you swallow only thanks to Roth.
Of the four stories, I liked only two. One was back and forth, and I couldn't understand my emotions. And one seemed to me generally a kind of sluggish and dull, but let’s take a closer look.
Let’s start with the one I didn’t like, that’s the second story. Yeah, about a crazy man and his wife. What was the humor? I don't know, they were talking crazy nonsense. The novel was directed by Alexander Rockwell. He's got good pictures, but there's something wrong. Take Roth out of the frame and you get a complete failure. Are the husband and wife playing role-playing games? Let me make some tea and sandwiches.
The novella that comes and goes is the first. In it, Madonna plays, she was given “Maline” for this role – probably crazy. In addition to Madonna in the frame, you can see the baby from Hot Heads and the baby from Mad Cecil B.! The story turned out very smooth, but not so much as to alienate Z. The ending surprised. The effect is unusual, filmed by a woman.
And so we got to the gold. The Rodriguez story is hell, in a good sense. I think that's where he got his legs for movies for kids. Banderas is gorgeous. Kids are gorgeous. The kid with that protruding tooth ripped me apart. In the end, you could scream with delight. My applause to Robert.
Well, after Rodriguez, Tarantino fell out. I love the old Tarantino who hasn't filmed Channing Tatum yet and praised Eli Roth. Quentin talks about his favorite movies (film, of course), boozes, swears, etc. All this is very cool, the almanac was completed on a very bright point, or rather the finger, a-ha-ha. Bryusik still loomed in the background, decided to see to hide from Z.
"Four Rooms" is still a good almanac. There are disadvantages, there are pros, but the pros turned out to be a little more, so I recommend watching.
P.S.
It is still unclear how and why the sparkling black comedy Four Rooms (1995) did not fall in love with critics as much as it was warmly received by the audience. The film is a surprisingly grotesque and theatrical picture with an entertaining conceptual concept. At the same time, he is remembered for his interesting cast, where it is impossible not to mention the enchanting game of Tim Roth, which gives a certain charm to the whole picture due to the completely charming non-verbal elements. And the music from the credits will sound in your head for a long time.
So, four rooms at the Mon Signor Hotel, four amazing stories and one night porter, who is likely to have a rough New Year's Eve. This is just his first day at work!
Rule #1: stay clear of hookers
In the room for the newlyweds, several girls move in, who, as we learn later, call themselves witches. Yeah! What kind of guests you will not find in the hotel! The coven of witches gathered here for a reason, their goal is to revive the goddess Diana. However, one ingredient for the potion is missing. Who can help? Of course, porter. In this novel, it is impossible not to notice the Madonna, who quite convincingly played one of the witches, catching the mood and overall style of the film.
Rule #2: stay clear of married arguments.
Disassembly of spouses is common, but it becomes unusual if one of them has a gun. Can you tell me what the porter did? Nothing to do with it. However, having confused the number, the hero of Tim Roth accidentally becomes first a witness to a marital showdown, and then one of the parties to the conflict. This is probably the least successful of all.
Rule #3: Stay clear of kids.
To look after the children, without looking after them, it turned out to be quite impossible when it comes to the skodnye children of a gangster performed by Antonio Banderas, who surprisingly easily and effortlessly manages to play comedic roles. This story is the brightest of all four and stands out due to the good play of children, and very good jokes, even if they are quite black, and some are just on the verge of foul.
Rule #4: Stay clear of night clerks.
This time, the porter will have to take part in a dubious dispute, which started three rich men from the penthouse performed by Tarantino himself, Bruce Willis and Paul Calderon. Bruce Willis has a very secondary, but memorable role, limited to a phone conversation with his wife. Tarantino, on the other hand, occupies the main time of the entire novella, overshadowing the rest with his vivid and emotional monologues.
Of course, the above instructions of the elderly porter, who served in the hotel for 50 years, are easily violated by the hero of Tim Roth, because what can you do for the sake of a tip? / i>
This film is often played during the Christmas holidays in many countries, but the theme of the New Year holidays is reduced only to a minor clarification of the time in which events occur - New Year's Eve. Otherwise, this picture does not look like a typical pre-holiday film, of which there are quite a lot. This is an anthology consisting of four novels, united by one character and place of action.
First novel. Suite for the newlyweds.
This story tells about witches who gather at the Sabbath in order to conduct a ritual. They are missing one ingredient. This is one of the two novels I liked. I did not expect to see mysticism, but it is presented in an easy way and fits quite organically into the overall picture. Madonna is honored for this role!
Second novel. Room 404
Climbing into the call room, our hapless porter discovers a girl tied to a chair and her distraught husband. In my top of the movie, this one is in last place. It seems to fall slightly in style. It's crumpled. What is expected of Alexander Rockwell?
The third novel. Room 309.
In this story, Theodore will have to face a pair of gangsters and their children. The porter will have to play the role of a nanny for spoiled children. The second episode I liked. There is a well-defined comedy note here, diluting the slightly spoiled impression of the previous novel. There is also a really unexpected outcome. And of course, Antonio Banderas as the head of the family.
The fourth novel. Penthouse.
And finally, the main character will get to the strangest argument in his life. This episode was directed by Quentin Tarantino (also playing the main role in it) and it is performed in the characteristic style of Tarantino. Lots of dialogue, reasoning and naturally unusual denouement. Not a bad episode, basically. But a little tight. Among the pluses is Tarantino himself, and it is also unclear why Bruce Willis appeared.
The film left a pleasant residue, despite the ratio of good / bad novels. This is a rather competently shaken cocktail, which disappears the unpleasant taste of the ingredients after mixing. I would also like to mention the lead actor Tim Roth. I’ve seen a lot of movies with him, but I didn’t expect such an image from him. A truly talented actor, and "Four Rooms" is proof of that.

Having known about this film for a long time, but so to watch it and without starting, doing it, I was pleasantly surprised by some moments. I knew that 2 novels were created by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, but I didn’t know which ones. When watching this became clear immediately after the first minutes of familiarization with the stories from these two talented directors, without the beautiful works of which, this film would not have been so good.
Perhaps, a complete analysis and retelling of the plot of all 4 novels does not make much sense, because in Four Rooms everything is based on the actors and characters they play. And everything was already very clearly told in the animated opening credits, where the drawn Tim Roth, getting into extremely absurd situations, showed the severity of his work. This is the whole plot: our protagonist, working alone on the eve of the New Year, is forced to serve the guests of a very prestigious hotel in every possible way, simultaneously fulfilling their whims, so that they were satisfied with the service. And those stories that appear on the screen, made in a very good style, uniting them all into one big story about the corridor Ted and his small adventures, which you watch and do not want to stop.
And as it was written above, the directors, having a good experience in cinema, shot in such a manner that literally every minute the poor corridor dipped into this crazy world even deeper. But despite all the oddities, he, as he believes a decent corridorman, remained unperturbed and ready for all the pranks of the hotel's regulars, which, of course, aroused great respect and sympathy.
Here it is impossible to say that any novel is better than another, but for myself I noted the last two: “Chaloons” (dir. Robert Rodrizes), which came out very funny and expectedly good story about children-pranksters; and “Penthouse – the Man from Hollywood” (dir. Quentin Tarantino), which with its dialogues, situation, characters and magnificent work of the operator, is remembered for a long time. And all together, these stories leave extremely positive emotions, and in the end, and at all – a wide smile on the whole face.
As a result, the magnificent performance of the actors and the brilliant work of all the directors, made of such an experiment an extremely useful hour and a half of fun, which tune in to the positive and remind us that it will be much better and more fun if we do not constantly hide our heads in the sand or stand around the corner at every unpleasant and strange, but just pass by the unperturbed walk of one corridor.

I had this film on the agenda for a long time, but my hands did not reach. Well, what about? Rodriguez, Tarantino! The movie promised to be great.
I just want to say that the film is about nothing. There is no meaning or plot like that. It seems that the guys gathered, put on a napkin, what came to mind, and decided to check, and is the people scavenging? And people scooped! "Genius," everyone shouts. Well, if that's considered genius now, then I'm confused.
The film tells about the once prestigious hotel, and what was happening there on New Year's Eve. In the center of the events is a dorky porter performed by Tim Roth. The whole movie also wanted to shout, but the only phrase is: “Overplay, young man!” He must have been tasked with playing over the edge. But in my opinion, this decision was fundamentally wrong. His gait of a homosexual, constant grievances - except irritating nothing.
As for the stories that take place in 4 rooms:
1. I don't even remember what it is about, it's so boring, meaningless and not funny. And there were tits.
2. It's also hard to remember. I remember it was not funny.
3. Here is the story from the third room, I probably like more than others. Thanks to Antonio Banderos and a dead whore.
4. The fourth room is a separate subject. Incredibly boring, boring, boring for 20 minutes!!! Tarantino loves the meaningless chatter of the characters, but you can make it amusing, as in, say, “Pulp Fiction”, or you can make it as if there was no script, and the guys just carried the barbecue for 20 minutes until they were given the go-ahead to go to the climax of the scene.
The level of humor (and this is claimed by comedy), forgive me, fart. Boobs, pussy, homosexuality, endless mother. I don't mind mat in movies. You have to make it taste good!
In all the time I watched this comedy, I never smiled! Oh, no, lying! Smile! When the movie finally ended.
May the connoisseurs of genius forgive me, but not more.

Four Rooms is a beautiful comedy full of black humor. Here excellent comic situations are built throughout the film, starting from the constant twitchy behavior of the protagonist, ending with denouements in the novels.
Tim Roth played Ted's porter. One must manage to portray such a hypocrite who is ready to do anything for the sake of a tip, and as soon as the client does not see him, he crooks and does what he wants. This shows us the soul of all the people, I think, who work in such and similar professions. They're nice to you, but as soon as they leave you, they curse you, and that's very funny. Also in the novels themselves, scenes and dialogues are very funny, and for even more piquancy to all this, that the New Year is in the yard, and you understand that on this day all the characters think only about themselves.
The fact that the novels were shot by different directors I consider a great move. And this is evident not only by the fact that there is a screensaver in front of each of them at the beginning, but also by the style of production. I liked the third and fourth novels the most. The first and the second are funny, but they lack engaging dialogue or action. The third one gives us a very active action and it is full of black humor, which is rarely found in this form. The fourth novel gives us a cool dialogue from Quentin and with him in the role. A great discussion takes place and at the end we have a beautiful denouement.
To sum up, this is a very good comedy that should be seen by all adults. I watched it more than once, but I was a child and laughed at everything, but now everything is perceived differently and you see some meaning in the film. The film has great acting, very good comic situations, good mini-scenes. The only drawback can be noted the duration of one and a half hours, half an hour even longer and would be generally fine. Watch it all!
I learned about this film, thanks to the participation of Quentin Tarantino in the creation of the script for one of the stories. The idea, consisting of a comedy range of four directors, immediately liked, and I took a look.
Each story is attractive in its own way thanks to the directors who participated. After each room, the film changes slightly, moving from one genre to another, only Tim Roth remains unchanged, from room to room, solving the problems of guests. The directorial work on the rooms is done, as the work on a good film should be done. I especially want to mention Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.
I liked all the stories, except maybe the first one. But the attitude to the whole film, this story did not spoil, as here for everyone there is his favorite director and room. The final story is just above all praise, Tim Roth put a fat point and went about his business. After watching, I was satisfied, if you like black humor and at least one of the directors (like me, for example, with Quentin Tarantino), then you can watch and not be afraid.
I've never made up my mind. Do I like the almanac movie? I've always found them a little ragged underdeveloped. Movies in this genre are often just funny. They are light, fun and do not leave a mostly pleasant impression. And I wouldn’t even write about the movie “Four Rooms” if it wasn’t for the fact that talented people and just cult personalities put their hands on it. Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Allison Anders and Tim Roth! I used to expect fantastic things from these people. But alas, "Four Rooms" more than the title of a good comedy, do not pretend.
The main thing in almanac films is novels. They don't just have to be bright and juicy. But at the same time, they must be properly glued together and so that the viewer does not experience discomfort while watching the film. You need the right pace and the right pitch. But for me, in Four Rooms, the creators did not cope with this task. I'll talk about novels later. Now about the tempo of the picture. The stories are diverse and presented to the viewer in different forms. In one we have a fantasy-absurd, in the other a black farce, in the third a comedy with children, and in the fourth a dialogue part. And how to put it. These stories are very different, and the emotions you experience when watching them are completely different. And so when you look at one novel, and you don't really have time to understand it, you immediately begin to penetrate into another. The viewer is thrown headlong into different stories. He does not even have time to catch his breath, but he is abandoned again. It's really hard. Stories are poorly imprinted in memory, the viewer does not keep up with the pace of events. Some stories are longer or shorter than others. It's very uneven and crumpled.
Then the stories. It is clear that the directors gathered here completely different. And they all made novels in their genre, in their style. Some people like Robert Rodriguez more than Alexander Rockwell. It's all taste, there's nothing you can do about it. But the other thing is that the stories here are incredibly weak. For example, the story of Alexander Rockwell is quite boring and delusional. The plot of Robert Rodriguez is quite childish and not particularly funny. There are also problems in other novels. And that's very bad. You really expect bombs from people like that! And it turns out just funny sketches that would just look like a collection of jokes, but not in a full-length film. Perhaps only Tarantino's novella is really fascinating. But even then, against the background of previous films of the meter, it sags. And the humor is kind of bland. It is clear that everything is based on comedic situations. But these situations are so crazy that you don’t even know how to treat them. But certainly not humorous. However, I will not be sly, still some moments of the film are really funny, but no more.
But what really happened in the film were the characters and actors who played them. The main star of the film is Tim Roth. His character is funny, a little sloppy, but incredibly charismatic. His hero gets into completely wild situations, and at the same time gets away with it. Tim himself plays beautifully. He is charming and even a little touching. It’s hard to believe that once this actor played a cool gangster in “Reservoir Dogs”, and here he came out as sloppy as well as cheerful. Tim Roth and his character The Corridor is definitely the film's main virtue. And the other heroes are no less good. You may not remember everyone, but you will definitely get a smile. If they don’t, they’ll at least be fun on the screen. In general, the characters, as well as the actors, are beautiful here.
And I won't hide it. Four Rooms is a really good movie. But nothing more. It will make you smile, but it will not be remembered. You’ll laugh at it, but you won’t forget it the next day. I've seen this movie twice. And more than my "good" response, I didn't say anything to him. Yes, this film is funny and bright, but I want something more from such personalities. You can watch the movie, it’s easy to relax, but that’s all.

This tape has some unfading charm, an enduring charm. And it seems that everything here is not serious - the authors frankly decided to fool around and have fun in this project, Tim Roth twists and grimaces from the beginning to the end of the film, but, still, it looks and, even more, it is impossible to take your eyes off this spectacle. The rather weak first two parts ("The Missing Ingredient" and "The Wrong Man") more than pay off with the subsequent chapters "The Troublemakers" and "The Man from Hollywood," directed respectively by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. And each of them adds to his part everything he loves, all the things we love him for. In the first case - it is naughty and capricious children and eternal macho Antonio Banderas, in the second - excellent dialogue and black humor. Directors beat their cliches and even with a slight degree of irony laugh at themselves. And as a result, two small pearls in the filmography of partner directors.
And, of course, a significant role in the success of the picture is played by Tim Roth, the same porter Ted is a character who came out of silent cinema, replete with amazing facial expressions and body plasticity worthy of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.

The film begins with a good and good parting old experienced porter who worked in this hotel for 50 years! You can see his good training and that he is very experienced. Characteristically, he leaves the room, slamming the door loudly, saying that I have been here for a long time, so I need to be respected. This movie makes stars. Like Madonna. In the very first story, she plays such a fashionable thing in latex, which knows its value and knows how to please men. However, she has a rather episodic role here, so it is impossible to say in particular about her image. But she played well. The girls in the first micronovela perform an interesting and mysterious witchcraft rite - as far as I understand, this rite is dedicated to increasing their female power and female energy. They perform many interesting, beautiful and erotic movements with their hands, feet, and, of course, with their bodies. It looks beautiful.
The porter (played by Tim Roth – the actor who brilliantly played in The Legend of the Pianist) in this tape is very playful, a little mannered, and, I think, a grotesque character. He has too much facial expressions and too uninhibited movements when he moves through rooms or corridors. In the second story, the image of a jealous husband is interesting. The appearance of this husband is a cross between Al Pacino and Sergei Jurassic (I don’t know how to explain who will see the film – I will understand). A little curious scene when the porter wants to escape from there and for this purpose hangs from the window. It seems to be another step - and he is free, but one guest begins to pour something on him from above. The clerk gets scared and finds himself in the room again.
Curious and charismatic image performed by Antonio Banderas. He is such a strong, courageous, confident Spaniard. Very beautifully and stylishly filmed as the hero Banderas hugs and kisses in the elevator his wife – whether Korean, or Japanese. The wife, by the way, is fine. Particularly noteworthy is the scene when children are naughty in the room (and the porter is forced to look after them) - although what they do is not so much a prank as a hooliganism. It is very tasty when Banderas and his wife come to the apartment, they see ripped children there, a frightened porter who holds a dead prostitute by the leg, an incipient fire in the room, ragged wallpaper, etc. Here the viewer expects Banderas to simply destroy the porter, but instead only asks him, referring to the children: “They were not naughty?”
In principle, this film is not something so monolithic, and, most likely, just a collection of short novels, not related to each other. The only link is the porter himself. The final micronovela, in which Quentin Tarantino himself is filmed, seems to me superfluous, and certainly some kind of protracted. She's incomprehensible. Tarantino plays some half-witted director who arranges absolutely ridiculous arguments, and the rest of the characters are presented here, I think, just as a background. I wouldn’t put that scene in the movie at all. Verdict: this tape is suitable for all those who love movies about hotels, funny stories and some grotesqueness in the acting. The film is not particularly outstanding, but you can watch it if you want to get a little distraction.
Throughout the movie, I laughed a lot. Only now I understand that acquaintance with such an actor as Tim Roth should have started with this film, and not with Reservoir Dogs, and especially not with the Theory of Lies.
Four different stories, four different directors. Great performance not only Tim Roth, but absolutely all actors. The emotions of the characters flow over the edge, it's really interesting. Everyone liked it: Madonna with a snake hiss, and stern Banderos, insanely fastidious and unknown to me until now, David Proval, restless Tarantino and psychotic Willis. I'm not sure about Tim Roth. I never thought he'd be able to do that. Bravo! This is top class! The image of a good-natured man was successful.
Well, if it is. The script has nothing to do with adequacy. If you remove Tim Roth from the film, then no Madonnas or Banderos will add color to it. Personally, I think it's the main character that holds all four stories together. It is he who makes the viewer bewildered by the unthinkable, completely crazy situations that occur at the first working shift of the eccentric corridor. It's not like that in real life. This is not a good argument for a movie you don’t like.
My final verdict: almost 100 minutes of unrepeatably played nonsense. If I want to reconsider, it is clearly not sober, and not alone.
You like comedies? You say yes. Have you ever watched KVN programs on the first channel or any other programs in this niche? Of course I do. Is it a comedy? Absolutely. Is this a comedy movie? Nope. What kind of movie is this? This is a television program, you say.
At the beginning of this black comedy, you will be surprised to see it. The feeling that the director took a theatrical production (comedy) and transferred it to the film, without passing through the cinema machine. In such films, where they say the word "cucumber" and in the background, everyone laughs to the point of colic. But gradually, each room has its own director, and it will spread throughout the film, and by the end you won’t even remember it. The main thing is to endure the first room. The hero of Tim Roth at first seems backward, disgusting and does not fit into the film itself, going beyond its stupidity and infantileness. But as we walk through each room, over and over again, we see that he's just unlucky to get up tonight, and he turns out to be a very nice guy who comes out in the end winner, and with a lot of money. So, let’s evaluate each room individually:
First room: I have more complaints about this room, many of which I have described above. Therefore, I will not focus my attention, I will only say that to create a story in the twentieth century about the coven of witches who came for their ritual is at least not relevant and not interesting at all.
Second room: It was very interesting to see how our hero would behave in this situation. And he did it. He came out of this love-psychic disassembly of the spouses dry, well, practically dry. The dynamics and style gave me a wake-up call after the first room.
The third room: The most beloved of the four stories. From the very first seconds, Antonio Banderas attracts with his charisma to himself, and punches into wild laughter his manner of behaving with his children and with his wife. This is probably the future Cortez family. I won’t tell you anything about this scene. You have to see it yourself!
Room Four: Directed by Quentin Tarantino. Of course, the skill of this director can be seen from the very first seconds. And I'm not saying this out of respect for all his future paintings. Taken in one shot. One take! Novice master at work. That's what it's called! But too much chatter about champagne and the controversy almost ruined the whole scene. The good end in the form of a loss and a bloody hatchet for meat saved them.
What's going on? Some scenes and moments sagged in the film. But crazy and well-directed episodes from other stories came to their aid. And thanks to them, the film reaches positive ratings. The film was unique in its kind. And if you like paintings from this genre, then do not bypass this film.
There are many hotels in the world. One of them is Montpasier. For a long time, he was often visited by movie stars, quite annoying corridorman (his name we do not know). And now, in our time, this corridor passes his work to his son Ted.
Ted worked, worked. And here comes another New Year’s Eve. We all gather at the table and talk, but this is not the case in America. So, some are going to celebrate our favorite holiday in hotels.
There are guests at Montpasier. What should Ted do with them? Of course, service! That's just he won't like it - first he will get to a real coven of witches who "lack an ingredient for a potion", then mistaken the room where the husband and wife are engaged in role-playing games and take Ted for a lover, then slowly follows the children of the gangster, causing the hero a lot of trouble, and finally to the famous film director who decided to make a bet with a friend involving a lighter and a knife.
So Ted will remember this New Year for a long time!
Many believe that this film was directed by Tarantino. But they are mistaken, and this is quite obvious - each novel has its own taste, its own atmosphere.
The first novel was shot by a certain Allison Anders, whom no one knew before the film, and even now, despite the fact that she shot the series “Sex and the City” and “The Mentalist”. Novella, as many said, superfluous in the film. Why it was removed – I don’t know, probably to promote something from the popular at that time Madonna.
The second was shot by Alexander Rockwell, still unknown. His novella is better than the first and quite good. And her idea is original.
The third was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who I consider the best in the film. A lot of black humor, little devils and their dad as Antonio Banderas. The latter is generally excellent, even if it has a small role.
The last one was directed by Quentin Tarantino. He also played one of the roles. The novella presents an excellent 21-minute dialogue, with the obscene word “fuck” used 191 times. The finale is excellent.
The result is a good black comedy from two famous directors and two unknowns.
I loved the installation of a room with children. The funniest and most memorable room. That’s where all my memories of the film come from. I didn’t like Madonna’s performance. It’s good that it’s almost her only big movie role. I don’t even know how to explain, but against the background of other actors, her “star” clearly fades.
As for Tim Roth, his specifically smiling face, even now, in my memories, makes me smile. Actor from God for this movie. The best actress, his partner, will choose, perhaps, Jennifer Beales. The only one, after Roth, that lit up in more than one room. But it's adults... the kids are still ahead, especially Sarah.
My most unloved room is the last one. Let my favorite "Die Hard" appear there, and everything ends in a very original room. But... it's the dullest room with a long... very long boltology... tedious Tarantino speeches about champagne, sorry, "Crystal" and the most boring environment in the room. Others were much better equipped, at least to match the scripts for the episodes.
But that doesn't change my preference. This movie magically and periodically attracts my eyes. Every time I look at it, I find something new. New to love and not to love this film ... new to see this movie again.
