Many, many different Eddie Murphys For the remake of the film “Crazy Professor” in 1963, according to the original script from the famous cinematographer Jerry Lewis and Bill Richmond, serious forces were called up. In addition to the fact that the script was engaged and the main director of the comedy Tom Shadyak (often worked with Jim Carrie), so was also attributed to Steve Odekerk, an associate of Shadyak, but he does not mind making films, such as the funny mediocre comedy Nothing to Lose. And those two weren't enough either, because another duo was inscribed in the plot creators: David Sheffield with Barry W. Blaustein, who gave us "Coming to America," as well as the sequel to "Police Academy." These films are even more revered in our country than at home. And the main role was appointed himself Eddie Murphy, who became a star after the trilogy “Beverly Hills Policeman”. This movie was supposed to be a sensational project, which, in principle, it became.
This is what we now know as Eddie Murphy, the actor who, perhaps, changes on screen more than any other actor combined. In one movie, he can play several characters. But then, in 1996, when “Crazy Professor” appeared on the screens, few people have heard about his talent, except for those who attended the former stand-up performances of the future movie star. And here's "The Mad Professor." Eddie Murphy virtuoso plays the roles of 8 (!!!) characters at once, playing, in addition to two opposite characters, almost the entire family of the main character, a well-fed, kind and very pleasant professor-genius, who is engaged in his pulpit with the invention of a new serum, which should help him become much thinner, and this, in turn, should help him win the heart of the newly acquired passion performed by Jada Pinkett (then not the wife of Big Will). Unfortunately, Murphy will play a lot in the image of several heroes at once, jokes will become monotonous and some fans and just audience sympathies will come to naught. And the latest scandals related to Murphy’s personal life do not promise him an influx of new fans. But let’s see what happens in the announced new film with Eddie Murphy “The Cook”, which, in theory, should be released in 2015. It’s been five years since Murphy’s last movie. Maybe Eddie is well prepared for a triumphant comeback? Let's wait and see...
Let’s go back to the “Crazy Professor.” How crazy is he, though? To the hero Eddie Murphy, the main still hero, Sherman Klump, this adjective does not fit in any way. He is a charming fat man, constantly smiling, and in his head a swarm of brilliant thoughts. Everyone loves him. Except, perhaps, the dean of the faculty (played by Larry Miller), who simply does not like people weighed down, and envy the intellect of Sherman Klump. But there will be another character: after the experience Sherman Klump will learn to turn into a certain Buddy Love. Just like Dr. Jekyll in Mr. Hyde. And, indeed, Buddy Love will become the horror of Sherman Klump's life, because his habits are terrible, he behaves like a scoundrel. Klump's beloved, he believed, should love this Buddy Love, but she will become even more sympathetic to Sherman and he will need to immediately free himself from the bonds of Buddy. And here's what's amazing: everyone knows Murphy in his normal form, but Sherman Klump with all the makeup, special devices and pillows in the place of his abdomen will be so cute and cute that Murphy outshines himself. Well, this is a real virtuoso game. Difficult technically, difficult physically, but all the efforts were not in vain - the viewer quite loved Sherman Klump and hated Buddy Love. “Oscar”, received for the best makeup is well deserved, yet it was done cumbersome work and it was done successfully.
If you distract from Sherman Klump and Buddy Love, then, first of all, attention is drawn to yourself, no, not the future wife of Will Smith, but a family of fat people like Professor Klump himself. Murphy will play almost all of them. Each of them will be able to give a certain character, a certain facial expressions and gestures, so again there is a desire to praise Eddie Murphy. But that's the main trouble - humor, when on the screen Buddy Love or the Klump family turns out to be so unpleasant, low, touching for some reason the constant use of the word denoting the lower back. And not very nice Grandma Klump with her constant revelations about intimate life, to be honest, is rejected. So, bright play, fresh ideas from Eddie Murphy's acting role and all of a sudden this low-grade humor. It will then become the same hallmark in other Murphy films, which doesn’t make it any better, that’s for sure. But there's Sherman Klump! And that makes "Crazy Professor" an enjoyable pastime. And quite well fit into the concept of the film Jada Pinkett. And I liked, despite the ugly character of the image, Larry Miller.
The trilogy “Beverly Hills Cop”, the dilogy “48 Hours”, the separate and only “Coming to America” are those films for which our domestic audience fell in love with Eddie Murphy, but many add “Crazy Professor” for the charm of Sherman Klump performed by the actor. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it will be fun. At least a one-time view of "Crazy Professor" definitely deserves.

P.S.: I watched the film in several translations and here is my advice: if you suddenly stumble upon a translation where Buddy Love is called “Favorite Brother”, you better look for another, or you will spoil the impression of this comedy.
