Freedom. What does it mean to you? What are you willing to do for her? Yeah, it's been a while since I've been here for five days, the worst part. I was once again nostalgic, revisiting all these days long watched films, my favorite 80s. Yes, even after the films of Abhishek Bachchan, with whom I fell in love again, decided to switch to his father, the great Amitabha-ji, I really like this family, all its representatives. And the founder, Amit-ji, especially. Over the past days, I have reviewed 4 of his films, which I have already written reviews for here. I watched this movie yesterday and I didn’t write it. Therefore, I am urgently correcting the situation. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
The strongest film of Amita-ji, one of his best roles of the period of the 80s (if not the best). Despite the fact that this experiment with changing the role was not very to the taste of the majority of viewers, many connoisseurs consider this film one of the best in the career of Amita-ji from those years. I agree with both hands. The film is a masterpiece, and from the play of Amitabh Bachchan just rips the roof off. Sometimes it hurts to watch. And to realize that for those who are "up there," the rest of the people are garbage. What happens in the film applies to any country. And it is best understood by those living in the post-Soviet spaces. Nothing has changed.
There is only one song in the film, but it is played several times. I read debates online about whether a song was needed in such a serious film. In defense of the song, I can say that it can be perceived as an Indian version of "The Marseillaise" or "The International". This is most evident in the finale of the film. About this song I recently read reviews from fans who were in that final crowd. Everyone says that it was simply impossible not to get infected with the atmosphere, that all became as one in a single impulse. The voice of Amitabh Bachchan, heard from the speakers, as if electrified the atmosphere. Once again, a huge thank you to the creators of this film, for the opportunity to feel this unique work of the great actor!
The problems of independence, freedom, oppression, the struggle for the creation of trade unions are a very painful topic for the people of India. They are very patriotic. The film is serious. And the point is not even that Amitabh played a great role, and how correctly he played this role, but how brightly and “painfully” this topic is revealed.
The film is exceptional, I love it very much. Amitabh played amazingly, which is not surprising. And I must admit, even my favorite Mithun would not be as amazing and powerful in this film as Amitabh Bachchan. Shabana Simple, but good, it has a certain highlight. It would be interesting to know how this film was received by the top. It was written in the press.
As you know, the political career of Amita-ji was not as successful as the cinema. After this movie, I couldn’t believe her success. But no matter how charismatic and hard-headed a person may be, his enthusiasm always loses to the resistance of power structures.
This is a social and political film, with a very deep and at the same time so painful for India and for modern Russia. What kind of world do you live in? This question is asked by the heroine of Shaban Azmi, the main character of the film - Azad. That's the key question for this film. This is a key issue for ordinary people living in India. Because the problems of corruption, blackmail, political shady deals, manipulation of mass consciousness, the problem of inconsistency of words and slogans with real political and social actions are problems not only of India, but also of the vast majority of countries of this world.
Amitabh Bachchan is excellent in the role of Azad, a fighter for truth and justice. This role gave an opportunity to show his innate talent and potential even more, in full force. And the viewer has the opportunity to admire and enjoy the power of his talent, this power of pathetics, which does not turn into farce. This is a force that knocks on the hearts and minds, in the souls of people, tries to pay attention, tries to be heard, tries to inspire things that are not typical of ordinary people initially. After all, cinema for India is like classical literature for Russia of the XIX century. This is a trumpet voice, a herald, calling, inspiring, teaching, not only entertaining.
Shabana Azmi. About the talent and skill of this great actress, I have written many times. Yes, she is not a classic beauty, in the conventional sense, but her face, very atypical, inspired, intelligent, spiritual. Her play in this film is similar to Amitabhu, the same restrained, without a violent explosion of emotions, the same serious and sincerely penetrating.
A beautiful film, every frame, every episode carries a powerful message. But I have to admit, I was annoyed by one thing during the film: how selfish people are. After all, none of the people who rushed to Azad asked his fate on January 26! Everyone was only concerned about their own problems! Of course, it is good when someone comes and solves your problems, but why not think about the fact that this person has his own problems, and he also needs help in dealing with these problems? Well, no, everyone just needs a wand. And, of course, only such an ending should have been. Otherwise it is simply impossible! Tragism and doom is felt from the first minute of the appearance of the hero Amitabh Bachchan, the musical theme Azad is very eloquent
.
In fact, the film is the center of the trilogy of Tinnu Ananda, and the combination of this magnificent duo, actor and director. This combination is not common. And their brightest works are, frank "Kaliyah", the most powerful "Shahenshah", and turning the soul "I am Azad". And then ten years later, with the same duet, the strongest "Mr. Major" (1998).
A rare film is capable of so hooking (even me, a sophisticated film and Hindu). I've been pierced to the bone again. Another respect for this great actor, although he has nowhere to add regalia. Happiness is that we live with him in the same era, and we can touch him visually, at least through his films.
