“Not like everyone else” became just like everyone else.
I have loved the Addams Family since I was a kid. I grew up on movies and TV shows about them. This atmosphere and family views are unique. They live in harmony with their views and beliefs, which ordinary people consider gloomy, unacceptable, taboo. And they are. Death, longing, gloom - the entourage and spirit of the world of the Addams Family.
Once a phrase from the TV series in 1998 stuck in my memory 'Do not communicate with strangers / strangers, it is harmful' This is the spirit of the Addams family, for them, ordinary people cause the same feelings sometimes that they do for ordinary people.
I was looking forward to this cartoon, the drawing and the trailer were inspiring, but what happened in the end?
The whole story is shaped in a new way and does not support the spirit of the original. The Addams never adapted to the environment.
All the conflicts built into the film are superficial. Early works about Addams were disassembled for quotes, this cartoon you will forget as soon as you leave the theater. The whole session protrudes theme ' not like everyone' walking Addams never positioned themselves as ' not like'. They have always been for themselves ' such ' that is their essence.
I went for a portion of fried meat patties, and I was given a soybean substitute.
I draw a parallel with Monster High dolls, which were first released with cuteer faces, and then completely closed.
Now cartoons make the same spineless. It’s amazing that adults who grew up in the days of the original Addams Family grew up so refined.
Recently, it has become very possible to return to successful projects of the past, both as direct sequels and as full-fledged remakes. Happily evoking in the memory of the already dead third ' Bad guys', the upcoming sequel ' Top Gun' and a number of other projects. This film by the directorial duo Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon was no exception, which is a remake of the cult television series of 1964.
The story revolves around the Addams family. Having married and built a family, Gomez and Morticia decide to find a home for themselves and preferably in the distance from people who are extremely responsive to an unusual lifestyle. After finding a home in an abandoned psychiatric hospital, Gomez and Morticia soon become parents of two children and live a peaceful life. But everything changes when a nearby city undergoes major repairs, and the family house does not fit into the image of the city of the American dream & # 39;
It is worth admitting that the creators of this tape initially faced a rather difficult and responsible task. Given that the television series was followed by two animated series, Barry Sonenfeld's iconic dilogy and its frankly weak television sequel, it was very difficult to tell the family's story interestingly, but without falling into self-repeats and the like. At the same time, the authors of this tape unfortunately failed to avoid pitfalls.
On the one hand, we have a rather traditional story, which can not be called bad in principle. On the other hand, the authors of this tape did not show anything new on the screen. Not only that, this film retells once again a long-worn story on the screen and at the same time tampers with it an abundance of possible clichés and cliches of the genre. Thus, making viewing this tape an absolutely sterile way of pastime, and the numerous twists of the plot of this tape are predictable to the point of horror. Moreover, partially destroys interest from the events taking place on the screen frankly weak humor, which can not cause laughter or a smile on his face.
The outstanding directorship of the duo Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon is also not called. On the one hand, the authors of this tape most accurately recreated on the screen the atmosphere and spirit of the source. On the other hand, to give the picture a certain brightness and make it interesting to the authors of this tape absolutely failed. The picture was completely sterile in everything. Including in terms of animation, which turned out to be frankly mediocre both in terms of the picture and in terms of poor character design.
The only obvious advantage of this tape is definitely an impressive cast led by Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron, who perfectly coped with their tasks on the screen and maximally revived such difficult for voiceover images on the screen. Moreover, it is recommended to watch the film with the original track. Since dubbing kills most of the little positive impression that gives viewing this tape.

The Addams Family is an animated remake of the cult television series, which has previously received several incarnations in animated, television and art format. It turned out quite a passing and in my opinion extremely ambiguous film. On the one hand, the most accurately conveys the spirit and mood of the original, as well as standing alone among his colleagues in the genre. On the other hand, alas, not finding a way to become really fascinating and interesting to view the work. Including due to fairly raw and amateur animation.
To begin with, I am a fan of this unique family. I read the original comic, watched the series, as well as two legendary films (the third does not count - clearly not for me).
However, watching a new animated film I postponed for a long time, because of bad reviews and low ratings.
But thanks to self-isolation, it’s time to watch it.
Once again, I am a person familiar with the Addams Family & #39; from and to', started watching with wariness.
Literally from the first seconds came a relief, because I realized that the new Addams Family made with great love for the original. This is felt literally in everything, in the reverent attitude of the creators to every little thing that creates a unique aura of this family.
The story will be interesting both for a new viewer who first met the Addams, and for a sophisticated fan, because we will be shown many interesting events that are a prequel to the story that is already known to many.
Q': Is what seems strange to you strange to others?' In other words, this light in its form animated film tries to find the answer to the age-old philosophical question: '. '.
Heroes, in an attempt to self-identify, go through stages of their path, face misunderstanding of society.
' The pink world' some seem not gloomy and superficial enough, and the secretive and antisocial world of others repels and frightens.
Here is an example of an animated film suitable for both children and adults, and even better - for watching children and their parents together.
You will get great pleasure, because the difficult path of growing up and accepting yourself will be seasoned with beautiful visual images and excellent humor.
And you, once again, can ask yourself a question about the norm, the answer to which will remain solely for you.
Have a good time!
For the first time, the Addams family, formidable on the outside but kind on the inside, appeared when comics were predominantly black and white and printed on the back pages of magazines and newspapers. But after a while, the adventures of eccentric monsters became so popular that they were allocated their own edition, and in the 60s even a personalized series about Addams appeared, which many still love. The story of Martisha, Gomez and their children was even filmed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who staged “Men in Black” and now it’s time for a new reincarnation of the sinister inhabitants of the terrible mansion.
After getting married, Gomez and Martisha could no longer live in their hometown, as the locals considered them monsters and threatened to burn them. Fleeing from their native places, our couple ended up in an abandoned psychiatric hospital, where they decided to build a family nest. Over time, two Addams children, a boy Pugsley and a girl Wensday, were born, and soon it will be time to show the family to the world again.
It turns out that in the same town where the Addams once lived, there was a reconstruction and the local designer does not like the fact that not far from the ideal area is a terrible Addams mansion. The designer wants to deal with the eccentric family once and for all, but as you would expect, everything will not go as planned.
In general terms, the cartoon can be said that it turned out visually beautiful. Even a small budget did not prevent artists from painting beautiful Gothic landscapes. The character design was also well designed. They are more caricatured than before, but in the cartoon it looks quite normal. The main problems of the film are in the field of the script.
Honestly, the Addams Family does not have the former sharpness and relevance. Now they are isolated from society and mostly joke about themselves. Of course, there are people from the city in the plot too, but they are not at all interesting and interactions with them do not inspire me. Also, the cartoon takes less than an hour and a half, but it will be difficult for an adult viewer to sit down. Teenagers will not be very interested either. Perhaps the only target audience of this story is very young children who perceive only fun and funny pictures.
To be honest, much more was expected from this Addams Family. And in fact, a rather ordinary cartoon was released for the youngest audience, which will perceive these adventures as an analogue of Tom and Jerry in cruelty. I wanted more, but it remains only in dreams.

Amazing characters are the Addams Family. In the '60s, when there was a black-and-white series about them, they were representatives of the counter-culture, which adopted new informal currents, all sorts of hippies, rockers, while opposing themselves to conservatism and the insecure society.
Now everything has changed exactly the opposite. In the new cartoon, the Addams Family, on the contrary, honors conservative traditions, family rituals and values, and opposes it with a corporate machine that skillfully incites a diverse population using social networks. How not to remember the recent harassment of Kevin Spacey on social networks, after which he was kicked out of all roles.
Of course, the cartoon is childish and does not dig deeply. In the end, no one was killed, but peace, friendship, gum won. But still for the courage I throw a ball, I did not expect, especially when I saw the first trailer, where from the first shots you are poked in the face by gays who adopted a disabled girl. Who knew they would be on the team of antagonists?
Now it is clear why Western critics tore the cartoon, incorrectly practicing the agenda, to shreds. Metacriticism is only 46%.
In general, the cartoon tries to carefully treat the source. The characters look exactly like the original comics. It's just like the old show. A lot of witty references to different horror films, which makes the cartoon quite scary for children. There are some good jokes.
According to the chronology, if you discard the fact that everyone goes with smartphones, it turns out a prequel. This is perhaps the only drawback that the writers decided to come up with a backstory of the family. It turned out another Roma refugees from Transylvania, just like Monsters on vacation. There are also hints that these are not ordinary people, but monsters. Although it was obvious in the comics that these were just strange people, probably from Europe.

As a big fan of the subject, I am upset. The essence is lost behind the appearance, which is very ironic - after all, this is what the original series says. Family values, acceptance, absence of xenophobia, racism and prejudice. It seems like it is, but in the new version it is not. Eccentric for the sake of eccentricity. Fuck.
It has been 80 years since eccentric artist Charles Addams introduced his family to the world. Not literally, of course, but The Addams Family, a comic book about monstrous and eccentric fools published in The New Yorker magazine, ridiculed that very image of a healthy and loving American family. It wasn’t originally child material, and the original 1964 black-and-white series tended to focus on the love adventures of Morticia and Gomez, not to the offense of Wenzday and Paxley. Nevertheless, children love to be creepy, and if we take into account that young people, well, always believe that the family is not without a freak, then the popularity of the Addams Family is not surprising - very quickly these eccentrics penetrated pop culture, got a mini franchise and had to get another chance in cinema. Their last appearance was not bad, but a kind of gray: it does not have the zest inherent in this strange family. Non-standard techniques (Snoop Dogg as cousin Ono or Christina Aguilera on the soundtrack) were not in the spirit of the series and are remembered on too light a wave.
It is hardly shocking that the new animated version is aimed at children – it is all because of the cult heritage of predecessors from Barry Sonnenfeld. The figures responsible for “Addams” this time, once stood already behind “Full splitbass”, but they also made “Shrek 2”. The Addams are more like the latter.
So Mortischa marries Gomez, but the locals banish all Addams (yes, there are many) from the city. The couple find an abandoned mental hospital, provide themselves with the butler Larch and live in the mansion for thirteen years. They have two wonderful (read: terrible) children: Wensday and Paxley. Children live in isolation in the wonderful world of Addams, unaware that outside the gate lies a conformist dystopia, where everyone prays for phones and apps, reality shows and coffee shops. Meanwhile, Paxley must undergo the rite of the Addams family to become a man.
Paxley's fear of disappointing Gomez, as well as Wensday's efforts to fit in with the local glamorous chick society, are the clear focal points of this new "Addams Family." As usual, at some point they become connected with each other by plot twists. Strictly speaking, the script is a kind of introduction to the world of these eccentric characters and probably even Sonnenfeld’s films: it’s quite a friendly children’s cartoon with an interesting design.
Whether adults will enjoy watching is a controversial issue. This Addams Family relies too heavily on farce and amusing musical compositions. The real humor in the franchise stems from the contrast between the Addams and normal society. However, in this version, this is too artificial; the same society, next to which the Addams live, is more like the city of Stepofrd wives – a population consisting of some biorobots, easily fall into xenophobia due to manipulations in Watsappa. It is relevant and satirical, but at the same time quite false; the plot in such details is almost arbitrary.
Visually, the new version of Addams is simplified, but pleasing to the eye. The characters are sparsely drawn. This does not mean that the animation is ugly or weak, it just sometimes seems incomplete. However, the design is rather winning. Most iterations of Gomez Addams tend to portray him as a handsome man, a charming gentleman. Here he is squat and strange; it is great, interesting to see his new incarnation. The rest of the men are also stocky and plump, but charming. All female characters are elongated and flexible, which also creates a funny contrast.
The reboot of “Addams” was unremarkable – more was expected from the resumption of the legendary black comedy. Unfortunately, even the storyline can not boast of something original: another contrast of the gloomy Addams with soft lovers of cupcakes and American pastoral. The same campaign Wensday to school begins promisingly, but from her antics do not get pleasure: the plot goes on as usual. It is a pity that despite its well-thought-out nods to pop culture, this version of the Addams Family, released on Halloween 2019, came out exclusively seasonal entertainment, and not a claim to restore the franchise: except for the attractive world in which lives a “creepy, crazy, mysterious and frightening” family, this interpretation can not boast anything special.

The cartoon says, "We're all different." And you have to accept unusual people as well as others (normal). Martisha (voiced by Marina Schultz) and Gomez (voiced by Diomid Vinogradov) got offspring. What's next? The fact that people are more and more mastering new lands and pushing evil spirits outside the country. The cartoon raises the issue of tolerance. How to take differences to heart? Either through money or through love. The cartoon shows that the school is very interesting to any teenager (even unusual). School opens up an interesting world. Children are curious and original (this shows Mazurka Pugsley). Everyone's different. Playful smile, pretended happiness is the key to success.
Try to be perfect, which is what modern people do. But how do you connect the ideal and the strange Addams family? The cartoon answers that question. Modern people are emotionless, but only in life, not online. The dependence on networks shows the residents of the pink town. Without smartphones anywhere and it surprises Wensday (voiced by Taisia Trishina). I really liked the character Margot. This female designer is making a career in TV sales. You have to have the courage and smile to be a TV designer. Margot (voiced by Elena Shulman) is a symbol of America, which constantly watches TV shows.
I liked the cartoon and didn't like it. What's a cartoon about? That shows TV shows, social networks, unusual thinking Addams. What repels you? That's all: too much time travel in minutes. The cartoon is interesting (especially Pagsley's mazurka).
There's sagging in the cartoon. And music doesn't save them. The graphics are great. All the characters are well drawn. I especially liked Wensday and Martish. Women's heroes are well drawn.
Certainly the best thing I’ve seen lately. A lot of great jokes, great graphics, non-banal characters, a logical plot. Tissues, skin when approached look almost like real. Yes, sometimes the film is naive, but still it is a cartoon. At the same time, the most important topic of freedom of choice, courage to be yourself, even if close people do not like the choice, is touched upon.
So I was really surprised that the cartoon does not have such a high score. “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” even published a devastating review under the title “About freaks and inhumans”. Judging by the title, the author did not like the characters as such. Well, it's a matter of taste. I’m sick of Route 60 and a lot of people almost worship this movie. I also suspect that people subconsciously compare the cartoon to the Addams movie. Or the movies, I don’t know how many. I watched only one, and he hardly remember, so this moment could not spoil the impression.
Claims from the category of “some kind of childish humor” also seem to me not quite clear. Others say that humor is too mature and contradictory. It is as if there is some method that allows you to distinguish between “adult” and “childish humor”. All right, let's agree that adult humor is 18+. That is, let’s say with gross sexual overtones. There's really no such thing in Adddams. As there are no jokes with farts, as in the same “Route 60”. There is a touching grotesque, a play on words, an unusual picture of the world of heroes, an unusual play on family problems familiar to everyone. But we are adults serious people, give us an adult serious humor, whatever it means.
When it comes to family conflicts, there are several lines. Therefore, I would safely recommend a cartoon to watch with my family. And also beyond family values and the issue of freedom, I liked another hint from the film that isn't discussed outright there: we're all a bit freakish. We all have thoughts and habits that can amaze a person who lives differently. It is foolish to blame people for not being like everyone else. We're all different.
On the eve of another Halloween, Hollywood decided to release a fascinating animated film about the family of the dead, the Addams Family. The cartoon was widely advertised on television, on the Internet and on street posters. This American animated comedy film is a new version of the Addams Family film released in 1991. Hollywood continues to engage young audiences in adult, destructive media products, in this case horror movies. The cartoon even has appropriate slang from adult cinema.
What are horror movies like? This is a low-grade film that has no artistic value, which is primarily aimed at introducing various fears and phobias into the consciousness of the mass audience. Even if the main storyline contains a positive message, it is still suppressed by the background part, which is filled with a set of violence, cruelty, sadism, ugliness, perversions and other destructive elements that cause a sense of disgust and harmfully affect the psyche of the viewer.
The Addams Family can be described by the creators as lazy and ridiculous money grabbing from viewers who cynically exploit potential audiences by serving them waste and calling it delicious.
For the entire 90 minutes of timekeeping in this whole carnival of mourning music, tombstones, etc., the plot of the cartoon moves further and further into the absurd and further from common sense. No cartoon can get around without tolerance, in which the happy ending is that ordinary people have to apologize to a gathering of monsters, ask for their forgiveness and equip their lives, instead of displacing this handful of corpses in a marginal field. Once again, you can observe how in films / cartoons people are exposed in an unfavorable light, depicting them as retrogrades, misanthropes, etc.
Now let’s talk about the cartoon character. They look no less absurd than the plot of the cartoon. Not only are the main characters outwardly unpleasant and ugly, they are manic, idiotic and insane, and instead of clever dialogue in the cartoon endless chatter. Instead of the head, the main characters have an empty pumpkin on their shoulders, and an endless string of stupidity stretches from their lips.
You can form in the younger generation through good cartoons respect for adults and their parents, examples of sublime love and selfless behavior, or through such bad cartoons as the Addams Family to show and ridicule the values of family relations. Show young viewers how children conflict with their parents, who are shown to be stupid, ridiculous and evil. To show how all members of the family behave towards each other despicable, disrespectful and unprincipled. Bad behavior of the characters on the plot of the cartoon goes unpunished and leads to an improvement in their lives.
Throughout the cartoon, the main characters behave aggressively, cruelly, maim and harm each other. The number of beatings throughout the cartoon increases exponentially All this is presented by the cartoon as a reason for laughing.
The plot contains scenes of disrespectful behavior towards their loved ones and relatives. The characters hate each other and want to get rid of each other. The main characters constantly insult and humiliate each other, their monotonous conversations are full of vulgarity, idiocy and madness.
Do not forget to demonstrate scenes with inappropriate and indecent behavior of the characters, which cause a sense of disgust and disgust. Without this moveton, the cartoon will not be complete.
It is obvious to any person that such disgusting scenes are not suitable for children's animation and family cinema.
How was such a terrifying cartoon approved by the Ministry of Culture of Russia and allowed to be rented in all cinemas of the country?
Thus, summarizing all the above, the cartoon is aimed at promoting stupidity and infantilism, at introducing a certain cynicism and insensitivity in the audience,
closing the human psyche to animal instincts, and also instills hatred towards parents
When subsidizing filming and film distribution, the creators are guided not only by financial indicators, but also by semantic ones. So, for what purpose do creators produce and launch such cartoons into film distribution? And who and for what purposes allocates them tens of millions of dollars remains from the category of rhetorical questions.
"Another" in the animated film "The Addams Family": a bad experience
The Addams family was created by Charles Addams at the beginning of the last century. The guy was fond of drawing comics and wanted to get into New-Yorker magazine, which he eventually managed to do in the 30s, even before the finalization of the image of the strange Family. Based on his comics in 1964, the comedy series “The Addams Family” (2 seasons) was shot, which was broadcast on the ABC channel.
Interestingly, there is no mention of what Charles Addams was inspired by: it is simply reported that as a child he could go to the cemetery in the middle of the night or break into an abandoned house (rumoured to have served as the inspiration for the Addams house). Moreover, after cremation, his ashes were sent to the pet cemetery. Ray Bradbury seems to have taken inspiration from the Addams’ grim charisma and created the short story “Homecoming” (one magazine changed its format for him). True, this story turned into a novel “From the dust of the rebels” up to zero, and the plans of the cartoonist and writer for cooperation were not destined to come true. In the book, Bradbury recreated the portrait of the adored family with humor and in gloomy tones.
Interestingly, Addams was friends with Hitchcock, who not only owned a couple of original drawings, but also made a reference to Charles in the auction scene in the film North by Northwest.
But come on, today we are talking about the new animated film 12+ “The Addams Family”, released in wide rental exactly on Halloween, October 31. Comics about the Family is now difficult to find, the series was shown when color television was still in its infancy. Then let’s talk about what we really remember (the animated series 92-93 does not count): the film “The Addams Family” in 1991 with Angelica Houston and Christina Ricci in the lead roles. In the story, the father of the family Gomez dreams of finding the long-lost brother Fester - and against this background, a drama unfolds, in which ordinary people also take part, always wishing to destroy the "other", "different", "terrible" and "disgusting" Addams. In general, it turns out to be a pretty sweet story about a clan of “not like this”, which in the first place is family values. The film had some unreal cloud of nominations from 1992 to 1993 (even for the Oscar for best costumes), but there were only two awards: the Young Actor Award (Jimmy Workman) and the Golden Raspberry Award for the worst song. It's even funny.
The message, in general, is this: all families with their own oddities, and if you exaggerate the characteristics of each of the members of the clan, and even give otherworldly charm, you get a real circus of freaks (no) within one house. The bottom line is that behind the door of each of the houses on our (and not only) planet – this is the Addams family. And this is not a reason for your family not to love – on the contrary, it must be loved and cherished first of all. Because, no matter how strange your uncles, mother-in-law, aunts, and other creatures are, they will certainly stand up for you, no matter what ass you get into, and they will absolutely accept you for who you are. This is the main idea of both the film and the cartoon. Plus, in the full-length 91 there is a theme of the confrontation between “normal” people and “abnormal” people. Addams, which was also transferred to the cartoon.
By the way, there was also a second film: Values of the Addams Family (1993) - also based on Charles' comics. In the center of the plot is the newborn son of Morticia and Gomez, as well as his nanny, who is hunting for the wealth of Uncle Fester. Again, the subject of the "other", only already opened from the inside - through the very nanny. This time there were even more nominations, but also awards: Saturn for best makeup, London Film Critics Circle for technical achievements (Ken Edam) and - again! "Golden Raspberry" for the worst song. From this part, only one reference is taken inside out, but the devil with it is not a matter of references.
First, the cartoon is clearly 6+, or even lower rating. It broadcasts so obvious things that, in general, you can immediately show 12-year-olds the real “Family”, bypassing the fresh animation.
Of course, the animated film is quite nice, quite simple and raises important themes: the “other” in society (a whole outrageously cheerful city is being built near the intimidating Addams house), a closed society in which the teenager is looking for self-identification (Wensday grows up, she is interested in the outside world), family values that must be rebuilt, taking into account the metamorphosis of the new generation ... Nice, yeah. But it seems that “Monsters on Holiday” has already closed all the tasks that its creators set before the cartoon “The Addams Family”. That's second.
Thirdly, the template of the opposing Family character is off the scale. New things are hard to invent, yes. But a cardboard blonde with big PR plans who ignores her daughter's needs is somehow too much. We've seen this before somewhere. Where? Everywhere. Weak, weak. If the film, first of all, floated on the charisma of the cast, then in the cartoon, taking into account the quite neat drawing, the banal plot has nothing to float on. For children, yes, without blood or sex. But have you seen 12-year-olds now? They're not stupid, you know.
If we talk about the “other” (different / representing a different culture or ethnos), then it is worth doing it more carefully, avoiding templates and similar plastic “visual” examples. If we talk about family values, here too, somehow, the topic is revealed: it causes a cloud of questions. It is better to make something simple and beautiful than to try to make it difficult and fail to convey something to the younger generation. Although, I must admit, on the threshold of the final credits, the topic of “differences” was still slightly improved. Plus a couple of nice Easter eggs and cute moments - but where aren't they? No need to waste time.
In general, the new “Family” can be seen once, if there is absolutely nothing to watch. But better, "Monsters on Holiday." Even better are Tim Burton’s cartoons, the recently released Mystery of Coco (2017) or the long-released Book of Life (2014). Or the original. Or better find Charles Addams' comics and tell me where.
Have you ever met people who live in a house? No, not with homeless people, but quite with adequate people, but with quirks. One of them makes up the ashes of his father and mother. Someone's got a zombie servant or a torn brush. And they look very strange ... the grandmother, like a witch, the brother, like a creeping bastard. This is the Addams family!
Addams has been on TV for a long time. I remember movies from the 90s, directed by Barry Sonenfeld, that were always broadcast on CTC. Now it's time for the newcomers to give away their version of a crazy family. I thought it took forever for Tim Burton to take it, but again, I couldn't. And a bunch of directors wanted to do the same thing, but they decided to turn it from a feature film into an animated one. And the creators of “Full Sharp Bass” created this miracle.
Honestly, when watching the cartoon, I have associations, as if I am not watching Addams, but remembering eye-eyed vegetables and live sausages. It hurts the eyes and the size of the heroes matched! But with all this, the facial expressions of the actors were preserved. For example, Charlize Theron remained recognizable in the person of her mother. Or "Oscar Isaac" in the role of the father, so it is generally like "Frank" from "Skolbass"... or potatoes.
The essence of the cartoon is simple as a day. No matter how much you want to get away from society, its rules and order in a secluded area, it will still overtake it like thunder from heaven. The cartoon was not a discovery, but certainly made any viewer laugh and I really want the sequel to remain as interesting.
Usually, when there are such parents, they call the guardianship and guardianship authorities. But not for the Addams!
Below is my impression of the Addams Family. I will briefly tell you whether the creators managed to qualitatively reveal the potential of the melancholic family, and also answer the question whether the cartoon is a children's one, or the rating of 12+ here for some time is not accidental.
The plot at the very beginning of the cartoon is quite promising. It seems that the viewer will expect a cheerful and sarcastic plot with a lot of sometimes creepy jokes. But, it is worth the family to settle in their castle in the course of the story, as... How all the possible Gothic-melancholic history somehow weathers. And it gets too much... Positive. And not gloomy. You just sit there and wonder how the writers were able to take such a klondike of ideas of very black jokes and not use them. The whole essence of the Adams family here will be shown only in love with dust, and to the periodic shooting at each other from crossbows. Let's just say that even Tom and Jerry can light up the Adams family in cruelty and sharp original jokes. They must be here by the very idea of the image. But there are hardly any.
An attentive reader of my review will ask: well, so this is a cartoon for children and you can go enjoy the “kindergarten surround system”? Yes, you can go enjoy yourself, because all parents drag their children to this cartoon from the age of 0+ (yes, even babies in the hall someone thinks of bringing, because well, what? But the problem is, alas and ah, but no, the Adams Family is not a children's cartoon. The creators are struggling to get into the mood of a gothic-melancholic family, for which there are many scary (for a child) and creepy-unpleasant moments in the cartoon. Starting from the abundance of scary-looking monsters, ending with eating candy, taken from dirty feet between the fingers of a terrible grandmother. You can take a child here from 8-10 years old, before - definitely not worth it, without jokes, children are scared and cry. What give even more pleasure to all the other viewers in the cinema from watching, by yourself. So 12+ isn't just like that this time.
The plot of the cartoon is banal to the devil. And predictable by its ending from the very beginning of the plot, because all possible stamps here are collected one by one. If the movie was diluted with a lot of black humor, it would be a farewell. And so - and the plot is boring, and the atmosphere is not ...
Over. Absolutely passable cartoon, which if you can be and watch, then to review later clearly there is no desire. Small children should not be taken here - they will be afraid. Older children should not be led because they will be bored. Who remains the audience of this cartoon - decide for yourself. The Goths won't like it either. Too pink. Something like that.

Despite the barrage of criticism, fell on the cartoon, the enthusiasm to go to the movies did not leave me and, as it turned out, for good reason. Since this cartoon is a separate part of the story, I will evaluate it only within its 86 minutes, without linking it to the previous parts.
The beginning of the cartoon is crumpled - we are very quickly introduced to the main characters and the main conflict. In a couple of minutes, we are confronted with the fact that Addams monsters and people do not like them. That's the way to solve the conflict, of course. Also quickly and quickly we are introduced to the characters, which in principle nothing is clear. It is only clear that Gomez and Martisha decided to create a unit of society, found a cozy nest and settled there. Help them running hand and butler. None of the characters listed in the cartoon are revealed from the word “at all”. It is a pity that the creators did not have time (or something else) to work out, in my opinion, the most juicy heroes.
The next scene is the same house 13 years later. The family had two children - Paxley, a boy who will have a mazurka, i.e. initiation into the family, and a girl Wenzdey. Around the latter and revolves the main part of the story. A baby who has lived all her life in a dark realm suddenly takes an interest in ordinary human life. This is the main conflict of the film. The mistake of the creators, in my opinion, is that:
(a) it is not very clear from the 20 seconds shown at the beginning why parents are against their children living in a normal environment. Yes, it's kind of clear that people don't perceive Addams adequately. But there was no precedent in the film with the same Wenzda when people would not like her! She was easily accepted into an ordinary high school, she became friends with a girl in pink in a couple of minutes, the main bullies at the school ignored her presence. She didn’t even become the object of ridicule for the main task force at the school, although she saw her and stood right in front of her! So what kind of conflict is this about? In fact, nothing prevented Wenzdy from living a quiet life and her mother with her lectures looks like an ordinary paranoid neurotic. Not like the cool, cold and daring Martisha Addams.
Attracts attention from the bad side and the motivation of the heroes. When the clouds over their house dissipate, they suddenly decide to go to the city. Why? For what purpose? Why the clouds? And certainly this goes against the first part of the film and the words of the characters themselves that going outside the house is a bad idea. Martisha and Co. quickly abandoned their views, which they cherished for 13 years. It turns out that out of the entire friction family, the emphasis is on only two - children. If you remove everyone, including the butler, the hand and the uncle, nothing will change. Absolutely. They have no influence on the story at all. They don't even make jokes. This is very disappointing, because these characters, in my opinion, are a storehouse of ideas for the plot.
In addition to feeling resentful for some of the characters, the drawing is also disappointing. She's terrible. No matter how much I tried to get used to it, I couldn’t do it. Wensday looks particularly disgusting. Tim Burton is not on them all.
It is time to explain why this review is positive. Despite the unwritten characters and leaky plot, the cartoon is worth watching. Yes, this is clearly not the Addams family we all expected to see. It's something new. And if you abstract from everything old, everything is not so bad. Humor was quite good, even if it was not enough and it is clearly not childish. And morality? What does the cartoon end up about? There is nothing worse than being a herd. Everyone is different, no matter what the other person does. Everyone should have freedom of choice. Choosing to be yourself. Isn't that beautiful?
"The Addams Family" is actually a display of Halloween, the story of a surprisingly dark, terrifying and frightening family, where everything extraordinary at the time is considered traditional and generally accepted.
Of course, our generation grew up on such films as "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values", which can be considered benchmarks in their lineup, which at least proves the interest in the cartoon.
Addams is always associated with a deep commitment to family traditions and an ardent love for everything that by chance or not leads to death.
I am afraid to disappoint anyone, however, the creation of 2019 will not receive a proper assessment of both film critics and fans of modern cinema.
The plot of the cartoon is painfully unpretentious, too simple and to some extent even boring. This is the main stumbling block, because the plot is a fundamental element that only hints at its presence here: many unrelated phrases, gaps in the narrative and plot holes, and humor sometimes leaves much to be desired.
Viewing a picture lasting a little less than an hour and a half seems very long, so much so that almost every minute is felt. This indicates that the loud title of the film does not always promise him further success.
The cartoon displays and clearly divides people into two, albeit such template categories. The first ones are those who strive to be perfect in everything, they are residents of a sweet pink town where harmony, mutual understanding and friendship reign. Addams, or those who spoil not only life, but also the view from the windows. However, in my opinion, there is a much deeper meaning here, although its presentation is pretty lame: people now tend to seem perfect, the best, successful and immensely happy. But all this entourage is just an illusion, a screen, as unreal as a pink town. Quite prosaic and another picture: the daughter of the chief designer and architect can not imagine a worse punishment than the loss of the beloved smartphone. A completely typical and ordinary picture of modernity, skillfully ridiculed in a children's cartoon.
However, I did not see the passion, emotions, or characters of the main characters. Undoubtedly, the most striking members of the family are Mortischa and Gomez, whose feelings are strong and incorruptible. Remembering the film and its sequel, and drawing a parallel with the cartoon, the soul inevitably becomes dreary. Despite all possible efforts, the characters turned out to be quite mediocre, which certainly will not be able to attract the proper attention of the audience. If Morticia as a heroine is unique and attractive in her own way, then Gomez came out cowardly and completely unassembled, and these qualities are not at all characteristic of the hero.
Wensday and Paxley - representatives of the younger generation of Addams, the characters are not fully disclosed and somewhat unsaid. Wensday is melancholy, unemotional, but at the same time reflects all the problems and difficulties faced by modern teenagers. The role of Puxley revolves around the traditional dance of the Mazurka family, as a result of which an hour and a half is not enough to understand and reveal the character and his inner world.
The graphics of the cartoon are quite simple and, as it seemed to me during the viewing process, the characters lacked some volume. Such details are much inferior to other modern paintings, such as, for example, "Despicable Me" or "Frozen Heart", and therefore are not able to fully arrange a saturated viewer.
Summing up, it is worth noting that "The Addams Family" is a work of relatively average quality, good, but not so good, it is difficult to call interesting, but also can not be defined as boring. The cartoon really needs a lot of improvements, starting with the characters, ending with the plot and incomprehensible soundtracks. The picture is suitable for those who are looking for something light and carefree, which will allow to defuse the situation on weekdays and brighten up a cold autumn evening.

The Addams Family is an average cartoon with a battered idea and no characters. Quite controversial, but very funny and moderately interesting.
I’m going to take a look at it for a bit more clarity.
1. Scenario
It seems not a complete failure, but not a masterpiece for sure.
Before us is the story of an unusual, extravagant family, for which the most frightening and confusing things are generally accepted norms. The plot mainly focuses on the relationship between the Addams and the people of the city. From the relationship is based on contrast, and from this comes the idea that everyone is different and one should accept a person as he is. The idea is typical and beaten, but come on.
As I said, the history of the picture is quite interesting, albeit secondary. That is, at once it may be interesting. As for the jokes, some children will not understand, some are already beaten, and most have already shown in promotional materials and in all possible trailers. It looks pretty funny, though.
But here's the problem with heroes... They're not prescribed at all. It looked something like this: so she's like this, they're like this, he's like this, so look at them. Many people have no background, no explanations either. Some change with nothing, and the Addams family contradicts itself.
There is nothing more to say... It turned out to be an average script for an ordinary one-time family cartoon, which does not shine with some incredible originality and brilliant ideas, but certainly is not disgusting and in itself is quite good.
2. Animation
Well, that's a spike. The animation here looks very cheap. Because of this, the characters lose a certain charisma and in many ways the sympathy of the audience. The design of some characters is bad. But it’s good that the film itself understands this and doesn’t hesitate to make fun of it. And it's been very successful many times.
Therefore, if you want a technically good production here, then at the moment it is better to go to another studio.
3. Atmosphere
Let's just say... The dark surroundings of Halloween for children are quite good. For such a holiday, the picture is just right. But if you analyze it again as emotions when watching and interest with feelings for the characters, then here too past. I don't care about heroes, and I already know the ending. It's predictable!
Generally,
I don't see any point in writing any more. This is enough to understand...
The Adams Family is a typical average. Nothing stands out, nothing new says. Jokes merged into the network themselves distributors and studios, and the characters are undisclosed, secondary and change at a click. Well, animation is too cheap. But, to give credit, the story was entertaining, albeit terribly clichéd and predictable.
The film is so nothing to say about it. If you have already reached this point, you can draw conclusions and decide whether you need it or not.
For me, this is a very funny average animated tape, which I took without negativity. Everything.

The Addams family has long been entrenched in cinema and art in general. It all started back in 1938. Then, in one of the issues of the New Yorker, a comic appeared. The story of a vacuum cleaner salesman who tries to sell his wares to a strange lady (Mortische) living in a dilapidated mansion. The comics received their first adaptation on September 18, 1964 as a television series. The series ran for two seasons on ABC from September 18, 1964 to April 8, 1966, with a total of 64 episodes.
In 1973, an animated series about the Addams family was released on taps, but even before the release of the cartoon, the animated version of the Addams appeared in Scooby Doo in 1972, in the Scooby-Doo series Meets the Addams Family. The first film adaptation on big screens, the family received in 1991. In 1993, the sequel to the movie “Values of the Addams Family” was released, which was also loved by the audience, but it was on it that the qualitative adaptation of the unique comic book by Charles Addams, about a strange but beloved family, ended. And now, after many years, on the big screens again appear Addams in the cartoon directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon.
The plot of the new film adaptation again tries to tell about monsters locked in the house and united by a common goal. Every day is nothing new or extravagant. But future changes will force the unusual family to look at the world from a different angle of view. In Paxley it is a mazurka, a rite that is considered a transition into adulthood; in Wendy it is a desire to experience new sensations and look beyond the boundaries of a gloomy mansion.
In addition, the fog concealing the house from other people's eyes suddenly cleared. It is unclear why the family decides to go to the city. Although it is not enough that it will not solve the problem, it also creates new ones. Monsters so easily decide to go out as if they have forgotten about past times. The most interesting thing is that no one remembers more about the fog, and this is despite the fact that this problem served as a catalyst for the trip. The rest of the main storyline did not have a special originality or interesting development of events.
Unfortunately, the creators failed to thoroughly demonstrate the interaction of the family with people. Wendy turned out to be a very interesting and developing character. And because of this, it’s a double shame that directors devote much more time to getting to know the whole family than to concrete achievements in changing the girl. Her new friends are given unforgivably little time, and the relationship with a new friend is cut as much as possible. But this is the necessary process of rethinking views on life and acquiring a position on a particular issue. It seems that the picture lost in a significant aspect of children's images, for which she tried hard to keep up - growing up.
What may seem strange to ordinary people is commonplace to the Addams. This is what the main humor of the picture is built on. Differences in views on rules of conduct, entertainment, ways of learning and life in general - the film jokes about everything. And I have to admit that he does it quite well. Yes, in the end, humor did not fit into the general atmosphere of what was happening and rather interfered with the denouement, but in general, the creators managed to create perhaps the most extraordinary comedy cartoon in recent years. Also, jokes still managed to focus on contemporary problems of society. The film joked about herd feelings, dependence on social networks, life in rose-colored glasses, but the main problem was the inability to reconcile with other ideals that differ from conventional opinion. Enough people are not able to accept a different opinion just because it differs from their own.
A pleasant trail was left by animation reminiscent of the animated series “Hey Arnold!” and “The Wild Thornberry Family”, which were broadcast on Nickelodeon, and a good number of references, which in themselves cause a smile. All this action was embellished with a pleasant and fun soundtrack, which will easily sit in the head of the viewer.
The Addams Family has everything but a normal story. And if an important point was respected, the nominations for various film awards cloaked the work of two directors from head to toe. This is the moment when the raisin in the film is, and the main dish forgot to make.
