No one can argue with the fact that Elton John is one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, who also feels great in modern times, when the style of performance has changed beyond recognition. But the music of Elton John and his unique voice continue to be incredibly relevant and in demand. And in 2019, it was time to tell the world the biography of the brilliant singer in the film “Rocketman”, which deservedly gained not only world fame, but also the Oscar for Best Song.
This story begins a long time ago, when the world did not even suspect what awaits him in the musical field. Namely when Elton John had not yet taken his iconic pseudonym, but was a quiet and calm boy named Reginald Dwight. He always loved music and sat down at his home piano whenever possible to play various tunes. Reggie’s father didn’t like what he was doing. The father of the hero was a professional military man and he raised his son in strictness. However, Ivy’s grandmother tried to develop the talent of the child and thanks to this he received a profile education, and then began to build his incredible career.
The turning point in the biography of now Elton John was the acquaintance with the songwriter and composer Bernie Taupin. They immediately worked together and began to record their compositions and offer them to recording studios. Subsequently, John and Taupin went to the United States, where they had a promising and promising concert, the flagship of which was the song “Crocodile Rock”, which, I have no doubt, all of you at least once heard.
A distinctive feature of the film is that it is half a musical and even some kind of unique fantasy. Elton John himself did not want the film based on his personal story to be gloomy and gloomy, and therefore he himself made adjustments to the script and showed his life not only tragic, but also bright, unpredictable and phantasmagoric. At the same time, in the frame we constantly see real events that actually happened.
The great success of the film is that the role of Elton John was performed by Kingsman star Theron Edgerton. At first, no one could believe that he would be able to play the maestro with dignity and conviction, but he did and I am sorry that he did not receive great awards for his efforts. Edgerton did not just play Elton John, but in a sense he became one and this amazing performance is worth watching.
Rocketman turned out to be one of the best music biopics. This film immediately went down in history and won an Oscar, which no one will dispute. So watch the story of a musical genius in incredible processing, which mixed genres in the most striking way.

I thought it would be worse, but in general, you can look once to understand who he is and where he came from. Since I’m not a fan, I just like the voice and songs, it was interesting to look at it from the point of view of learning a little bit about his biography. Comparing with Rhapsody is almost crawlless. Rhapsody is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, especially drama. And this Elton movie is a good 9th grader's essay, nothing more.
I love the music of Elton John and his work. In particular, his songs for Disney films. And I consider him an interesting person, but from my point of view, the authors rushed to make a film about him.
As I wrote earlier, I am indifferent to his personal life. I'm interested in his work. I can admit that I liked the film about the life of Freddie Mercury a lot better, despite the homosexual overtones. And I agree with other viewers that there are many flaws in this film.
1) There is no plot as such. The plot is more like a slicing of events that the audience is trying to introduce from the series: draw conclusions yourself.
2) There are too many colors and costumes for Elton John. On the one hand, it may be true. But when I saw the Mercury movie, I believed it more. And besides, too many borrowings from the musical Chicago and Jesus Christ is Superstar. In almost every moment, we are shown people dancing in front of John. Well, that's too much here.
(3) The music is also not very made. On the one hand, musical numbers and pauses and the author’s attempts to compose Rocketman and other masterpieces. It is not shown how he overcomes difficulties and becomes a recognized singer. My relationship with my parents is pretty stereotypical. And the idea that Elton is gay is not catchy. To be honest, I don't care at all. Everyone knows that. Talent is talent and the rest doesn’t matter.
Conclusion: it is better to listen to his music, and do not waste your time on the film. A boring movie!
After watching Bohemian Rhapsody, I decided to watch another movie about famous musicians, and my choice fell on Rocketman.
This film is about the formation of Reginald Dwight and his transformation into the famous Elton John. I was not familiar with Elton's music, although he was very popular at the time and knew nothing about him except his extravagant image.
Actor Taron Edgerton was perfect for the role of a young musician. I even watched his picture when I was young and Taron looks like Elton! There are no questions about acting, you believe him, you feel everything the hero went through, you immerse yourself in the story and the series of events that turned him into who he is now. At some points I had tears, although I would not say that I am too emotional.
The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher. To be honest, I also liked the way the plot is built, especially when Elton’s famous songs were played at certain points in his life, apparently there is a hidden subtext in this – it was at this time that his most famous hits were created.
Musical accompaniment is not even worth discussing, so it is clear that it is at the highest level. It was very interesting to hear his songs for the first time, because, as I said above, I had never known them before. Fans of his work will especially like it.
Separately, I want to do the camera work, this is something with something! What angles the operator picked up, how he carefully chose the moments of maximum heat and dramatically changed the angle of shooting - just candy! I'm high on camera work. Many people underestimate it, but it directly affects how much the viewer will immerse himself in the story.
I expected this film to be a beautiful and elegant storytelling story, and it did it with a bang! I advise you to watch both fans and those who, like me, were not familiar with his work. The only thing that this film is 18+ and certainly not suitable for viewing with children because of the abundance of scenes of an erotic nature.

I played in roadside cafes for 10 years until I figured out what to do.
- What, change your name?
- It's not about the name. First of all, you have to kill who you were born to be and become what you want to be.
Not very willing to watch musicals, but this genre for the biopic about Elton John fits as well as possible.
To be honest, I don’t think of any Elton song that I would listen to, it so happened that it somehow didn’t fit into my musical taste. But nevertheless, I unquestionably recognize that a figure in the world of music he is incredibly exceptional, he is talented and his shows are vivid and memorable. His personality is also quite interesting, and his way of life and philosophy have undergone serious changes, and I was curious to see a film about him. I was very pleased with the viewing.
Most likely, “Rocketman” should not be evaluated as an accurate adaptation of the biography, because although Sir Elton himself insisted on “demonstration without embellishment” of the dark side of his life in the past (alcohol, drugs in the film are fairly shown), still the narrative focuses more on his bright personality. This is clearly a non-standard biographical film, and it is so interesting.
When little Reggie Dwight first sat down at the piano, he won that life. Colossal talent and perfect hearing combined and combined with the shocking manner of performances, eventually creating a legendary musician who influenced the whole genre of music. The musical in a light and beautiful picture skillfully tells about the most difficult and difficult moments of the musician. His childhood, family, the first steps in his career, a difficult period of drunken frenzy and performances one after another, when you do not even remember which city with a concert came this time, a betrayal of love and faithful friendship.
In the film, the narrative is presented as the story of Elton himself during a therapy session, where he left in a suit from a concert. This is not entirely new, but even a clichéd manner of presenting the past through the mouth of the main character, but, nevertheless, here it fit quite harmoniously.
Not the last role in my decision to see the film was played by the fact that the main role is played by Taron Edgerton, and he sings all the songs on his own, which is really cool, because he is really good. And Taron played just brilliantly, I had nothing to cling to. In joyful moments, his eyes literally sparkled, and everything from facial expressions to pose played in dramatic moments. It was unexpected to see such a role of Richie Madden, but he is also good, a contagion. Arrogant, cynical, but charming. Their tandem with Taron surprised me, but pleased me. I would like to mention Jamie Bell, who played a loyal friend and songwriter Elton. He perfectly conveyed some of the embarrassment, drama and deep kindness of his hero. Bryce Dallas Howard is chic as the musician's mom. She didn’t have much screen time, but she played well.
I was looking at English with Russian sabs, and it was the right decision, as nothing distracted me from switching dubbing to songs and vice versa. And, if we still touch the presentation of the musical, the narrative was very organically intertwined with the moments of the songs, they did not look foreign, but fit in extremely harmoniously. That made me happy.
Finally, I will be careful about censorship. I definitely think cutting this movie the way the distributors did is stupid, to say the least. After all, this is not some feature film with the fantasy of writers on the topic, but the real life of a real person, which was the way it was and how it was shown. However, even quite softly showed, without tin. Yes, he did, and yes, he was and still is gay. But by cutting those moments out of the movie, you don't cancel out a person's past and present. I think it's even, to some extent, offensive.
To summarize, I liked the film. And the pitch, and the acting, and the musical range. Not being a fan of Sir Elton’s work, I still had the pleasure of watching and listening to this vibrant, dynamic, interesting and extraordinary musical about an equally versatile man.
I never thought that such a generally uninteresting human life could be so interestingly shown. I've never been so hurt by human feelings of loneliness.
Yeah, we don't understand them, well, most of us. We grew up in ordinary families, some not in full, but for the most part - loved or, at least, gifted with attention.
And imagine for a second that every day you have to fill a void that absorbs everything that accumulated in the previous day, and what was previously digested and spit out. And even chemistry doesn't help. . .
Great acting, great script, well implemented in the style of a musical. It’s funny that even without knowing the work of Elton John, you still stumble upon songs that you have already heard.

The legendary rock musician Elton John, who has a somewhat mixed reputation in our country because of his belonging to the LGBT community, has long become an important part of world culture not only as a stage artist, but also as a composer of cartoons: after all, he wrote the music for the legendary ' The Lion King', ' The Road to El Dorado', ' Gnomeo and Juliet' and so on. Getting his own biopic was always a matter of time. But who would have thought that he would eventually become the producer of this movie?
The film traces the period of life of Sir Elton until about 1983, telling about his arrival to the music profession, the beginning of his own stage career, frenzied success in the 70s and everything that was hidden & #39; behind the scenes & #39; this success: increasing drug addiction, awareness of orientation, lack of true personal happiness and love of parents. All this is shown in sufficient detail and makes you understand that no matter how great you are in your profession, it does not guarantee that you will be happy as a person. And it took Sir Elton a very long time to get over it.
The film was directed by Dexter Fletcher, the second director ' Bohemian Race' which simultaneously acted as a kind of preparation for him (for directing ' Rocketman') and an occasion to believe in success in advance (for the audience). The cast of the film is also rich in lush stars, who all coped with their roles just fine.
The role of Sir Elton in the film was performed by the star of the Kingsman franchise Taron Edgerton, and it really turned out to be a great choice: Taron perfectly demonstrates all the emotions that young Elton experiences during the film, and also shows the viewer his own vocal skills. It is noteworthy that a few years earlier he had performed one of the songs of Sir Elton in the animated film "The Beast" & #39; which now seems to me the first test from above (' is he ready for the role of Elton'). So I’m genuinely surprised that he didn’t even get an Academy Award nomination for his work (thank you for even getting a Golden Globe).
Magnificent Jamie Bell appeared as the best friend and co-author of Sir Elton, the poet Bernie Taupin. In the course of the film, it becomes clear that Bernie is one of the very few people to whom Elton really cares, which the legendary singer clearly overlooked because of the bad influence. In one scene, Mr. Bell also managed to demonstrate singing skills, which turned out to be quite good, but not higher.
Star 'Game of Thrones' and 'Cinderella' Richard Madden played in the film manager and boyfriend Elton, John Reed. In fact, Reed appears in the film as the main antagonist, as it is he who has a bad influence on Elton and causes him to sink deeper and deeper to the bottom (this was also true in real life, as I learned from Elton’s autobiography). Fortunately, Elton was able to break away from him, although they maintained a business relationship for a long time (which can be considered a practical step).
Bryce Dallas Howard played Elton’s mother, Sheila Dwight (which looks a little funny, since she is actually fit for Taron as an older sister). Judging by Sir Elton’s autobiography, she is presented in a more negative light: she is almost indifferent to her son’s successes (and even to his orientation) and dares to tell him that he will never have personal happiness, although in fact she just takes on him anger for the lack of this very happiness in her (of which she blamed him).
The role of Elton’s father, Stephen Dwight, was played by actor Stephen McIntosh (formerly the star of the series ' Another World' and the film ' Cards, Money, Two Guns'). His image is generally in line with Sir Elton’s recollections: as a retired military man, he considers this profession the only worthy one in the world, and therefore his son’s decision to become a musician is akin to family shame. This is especially evident in the scene of a meeting with an adult Elton, where he refuses to accept an autographed record from him (instead, asks him to sign it for a neighbor), and then tells his younger sons not to choose the same profession.
Sir Elton’s compositions for the film are carefully inserted into each scene. I also want to note one curious detail: Elton tells his life at a meeting in rehab, which came in his stage costume of the devil, as if symbolizing how much he had fallen by that time.
And yet, without drawbacks, albeit small, in the film, too, did not do: the format of the two-hour film made the plot somewhat concise, which in some places it looks confused, although the overall impression is not much spoiled. And yet, to call this film truly outstanding is difficult, so the highest rating I can not give him.

For someone, Rocketman & #39; Disappointment' or ' wrapper without candy', for me, this musical (this is, of course, much more musical than a traditional biopic) is the best that has come out recently (meaning the emasculated, bombastic Bohemian rhapsody, shot by the same Dexter Fletcher and equally unimportantly written by Judie with Zelwegger as Garland). It's a very strong script, beautifully staged and well shot. Knowing enough of the vicissitudes of Sir Elton’s life and his musical material, at least from the 80s to the mid-90s, did not suit me only an excessive number of musical inserts, I would like more dramatic play, the more so that the plot line of dislike of mom and dad Reginald Dwight is spelled out perfectly and in detail. The main thing in the film is its cast. And he's got goosebumps. This young Reg – and the child, and the teenager – charming, charming, talented boys – Matthew Illesley and Keith Conor, perfectly coped with the task, and the beautiful Gemma Jones (Grandmother Ivy) and Sheel’s mother (Bryce Dallas-Howard), and the sweet boy Charlie Rowe with his mixture of blood and charm in the small role of a musical agent, and the impresario lover John Reed (Madden) and the wonderful, as always, the most talented and so different everywhere Jamie Bell (Bernipenny Toppin).
But the most important delight is the Welsh comrade Taron Edgerton (outwardly a little like a young Vs.Shilovsky) with his luxurious chin, incredible acting, such an accurate game, who, among other things, sang all the vocal parts (tonally periodically & #39; gave' purest Robbie Williams, even horribly similar), sometimes surpassing Sir Elton himself as a performance. There were a lot of songs, the guy sang all the parts himself - both vocally and actingly did it completely flawlessly. I’m not talking about how famously the video I am still standing was recreated in the finale (this is not an artificial jaw to shove into and sing along with the original part of Freddie as Malek in ' Rhapsody' here everything is all by itself, only at the expense of talent and skill, without ' crutches'). Beautiful work, rather sad, despite the ostrich feathers, sequins and limousines of the movie about fame, thirst for love, heartache, great talent and loneliness as a price for it. You are one of a kind, Mr. Egerton, God bless.
The success of Bohemian Rhapsody - about the iconic British rock band Queen - gave us the opportunity to witness films about the life and work of other legendary artists. First Queen, next year we will see a biopic about David Bowie, and last year came a colorful, brilliant, carnival story about the legendary artist, whose songs are sure everyone heard and has at least one favorite. Sir Elton John. This is Rocketman.
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world . .
Elton John, who at birth received the name Reginald Dwight, went a difficult way from a shy guy in huge glasses to a cult performer. Having survived the divorce of his parents and his difficult relationship with them, his salvation is music and playing the piano. Having met in his youth with the talented songwriter Bernie Taupin, Elton John achieves success, and subsequent cooperation and relationship with producer John Reed bring Elton the status of a successful performer. In this career, he is waiting for bright costumes, millions of fans, a sea of alcohol and drugs, attempts to find a soul mate and many, many, many songs. . .
Well, Crocodile Rockin is something shockin'
When your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will.
Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights.
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rockin was out of sight. . .
You could say I was expecting something like Rhapsody from Rocketman. But Dexter Fletcher did a biopic about Elton John quite differently. Yes, it is still a relatively consistent narrative of events that took place in the life of the famous musician. But some of the episodes did not take place in reality, but in a fantasy world, as if we can see how Sir Elton himself feels about his music. Remember the moments when the audience at his concert freeze and then float in the air? Or an episode about the song Rocket Man, which was the hero in delirium, and then a series of events takes us from the intensive care room to the stadium, where the singer is waiting for the audience. The film is a real kaleidoscope of events that either fly in the whirlwind of parties and casual acquaintances, then linger, focusing on the loneliness of the singer and the like. The same whirlwind flies pretentious suits with sequins, fur and feathers and all the famous hits of Elton John - I Want Love, Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting), Your Song, Crocodile Rock, Tiny Dancer, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and the new song (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again, which Elton and Bernie wrote specifically for the film, for which they received the Oscar/i>
"So goodbye yellow brick road"
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough. . .
We can say that the animated film Zootop became a kind of audition for Taron Edgerton - he then brilliantly performed the hit I'm Still Standing. And now he fully reincarnates in the image of Elton John himself - a real showman, a fantastic singer, an expressive artist who gained popularity quite early, earned millions and the recognition of millions, but did not immediately accept his orientation and for a long time was looking for a life partner, was betrayed by those he sincerely loved, repeatedly pushed away from himself a few close friends. Still, Elton John’s life was full of bright moments and dark episodes – he himself sought to ensure that everything in the film was shown without embellishment and innuendo. And Taron was perfectly able to embody on the screen this man in huge glasses with an unforgettable manner of performance and heavy emotional experiences. In addition, he just perfectly performed all the songs live!
The film also shows the beginning and further development of the already 50 years of friendship and partnership between Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), who survived the ups and downs, disapproval of some of the friends of each other, even a temporary termination of cooperation, but in the end it was a friendship where one will always come to the aid of the other and provide the necessary support.
Rocketman and Rhapsody are also united by manager John Reed (who was played here by colleague Aidan Gillen on ' Game of Thrones' Richard Madden). Here, his role is greatly expanded - largely because of his professional relationship with Elton. He is shown to be a shrewd and calculating man who has benefited greatly from his partnership with Elton John.
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Look like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Pick up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah yeah!
In the end, I was even glad that Rocketman was so different from the traditional biopic about a musician. The film itself is so similar to the songs of Elton John - just as bright, incendiary, unforgettable! Finally, thanks to him, I began to get acquainted with the work of Elton John in detail - and now I listen to his songs with even greater pleasure!

Unbound by any ties that break or bend
I'm free and don't you know?
No clown that claimed he used to know me then
I'm free and don't you know?
And oh-oh-oh, I'm gonna love me again!
Nice viewing!
' Rocketman' is a grandiose musical fantasy that illuminates the incredible story of the transformation of the shy guy Reginald Dwight, the most talented small-town pianist, into a superstar and cult figure of world pop music Elton John. This universal inspiring story about overcoming and pursuing a dream is told with the help of iconic songs by the musician, which Taron Edgerton wonderfully performed.
No sooner had the award hype on ' Bohemian Rhapsody' and Rami Malek, as a new biopic rushed into the movie fight. Honestly, I, too, was pleased with Elton’s story of becoming, his addictions and his incredible suffering and finding myself in the social world. But it turned out to be quite slick in some moments and too pedantic. I watched, of course, the forbidden version on the disc, we like to search ' pitfalls' absolutely where there are none. I don't know who watched the stripped-down version for 15 minutes and understood something, but it's everyone's business.
In general, the film is worthy, Taron - just shines and incredibly accurately falls into the image of Elton, his facial expressions and gestures, a slight stutter and such inherent in all beginners - uncertainty on stage, and in life too. And of course, pleased with the live accompaniment and performance of songs by Taron. Beautiful! I don’t know how much of all the working material came in, there were rumors about a full-fledged 4-hour film, but in general – these almost 2 hours passed in one breath, I really liked the musical numbers and the comprehension of all the songs. If, to open even deeper relationship with parents and remove unnecessary heroes, it would be a solid 10 from me!

Released a year after the film ' Bohemian Rhapsody' the picture about one of the most famous composers of our time follows a similar path of its predecessor, but at the same time correctly sets priorities. There's no crumpled beginning here. We're seeing a family relationship that really affects Elton. We watch his growth, the most important acquaintance with the main friend in his life.
The picture is not shy in dirt and lust (so the rating is higher). Thanks to this, we feel the hero and his experiences better. All the roughness remains in place. Elton John himself was not ashamed of his past, and therefore all obscenity and showed. The real downside in the middle of the film is that the movie is sagging. And not scripted, but even visually, slowing down the story too much. But then the picture returns to its usual pace.
The characters are spelled out, many of them open, have their own arches. Yes, the plot is also standard and clichéd for biopic, but here all this was given the right frame that holds the story. I would like to mention Taron Edgerton separately. Best of his career. That's how much you believe in a hero when you look at an actor. How much do you feel about Elton? And he also personally sang all the songs, and so it seems. In the film, his absolute benefit. I’m still shocked that he won only a Golden Globe and wasn’t even nominated at the Oscars (it’s clear he wouldn’t have won that year, but I think Taron played better than Rami). Visually, the film is chic, can almost reach, like 'Rhapsody' but to watch is a pleasure. I don’t know about the songs, it’s Elton.
The film ends with a pleasant smile.

If it were not for the subsidence, there would be a solid nine.
P.s. 'Rocketman' just unlucky that the picture came out after 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. She was more mature and wasn’t afraid to show the character’s flaws. Sometimes the viewer only needs the right visualization. Queen is a little more hype than Elton John. Therefore, such a difference in the love of the audience, fees and awards. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.
Your songs are very honest and open, I think you are a very lonely person.
I love watching movies about talented people. Watching biographies about musicians is a great opportunity to enjoy chic music and get acquainted with the life path of the artist.
When I was a kid, I used to sing Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King. I enjoyed watching the movie Rocketman about Elton John.
The film’s director, Dexter Fletcher, also directed Bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie Mercury. The fates of both singers have in common: loneliness, thorny path to fame, betrayal, the desire to find a kindred soul, expression through music. They were good friends in life. "Rocketman" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" turned out to be different in pitch. Despite the similar problems and values of Elton and Freddie, each of them has a bright personality and a different path.
Film biography should emphasize the uniqueness of the artist. With this task, Dexter Fletcher coped with everything. Rocketman is an extremely honest and frank film that introduces the viewer to Elton as a person. At the beginning of the film, Elton appears in an orange suit with feathers. The film captures the most vivid images of the singer: a suitcase with glasses, colored sneakers, rhinestones, stars. This style is reminiscent of a galaxy or a fantastic world. Weaving elements of fiction into the film harmonizes with the image of Elton John and graces the film. Very spectacular scene performance of “Crocodile rock”, where Elton takes off, and the audience with him. This is how an enthusiastic musician and audience feel the music, fantasizing, taking off, being transported to another dimension. The episode in which Elton flies like a rocket is delightful.
What's behind all this brilliance? Personal drama. A boy who was deprived of parental affection and love and faced their absolute indifference. A man with a delicate and vulnerable soul who drowned out his pain with alcohol and drugs. A guy who was afraid to be himself, because his mother suggested that no one would love him. And how do you believe in yourself, if it would seem that the closest people do not like you? This humble shy boy was protected by God, giving him talent. Elton John expressed in music thoughts and feelings that he had no one to share with, which were difficult to talk about in words. The story of Elton shows that childhood leaves an imprint on a person’s life. Musical numbers are inextricably linked with events from the life of the singer. Elton John's songs are personal, imbued with kindness and sincerity. Elton speaks in them about the love he lacked, embracing listeners with music.
Taron Edgerton, who played Elton John, sings in the film himself, and his performance touches the soul. The actor showed the sensitive nature of Elton well.
The story is told from Elton’s perspective. He talked about overcoming mistakes, accepting yourself as you are, and forgiveness, which is important for peace in the soul. Rocketman is an inspiring film about a man who showed talent despite the lack of support of his parents, did not lose it despite life’s turmoil, overcame difficulties and found happiness, finally becoming himself. The film does not have a large-scale concert performance like in Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't think it's necessary. This is a cozy film about the personal story of a man who communicated with the world through music. In the center of the film is a man who decided to speak out, to share with us the most intimate. And perhaps his story will help someone who is in a difficult life situation to avoid fatal mistakes. The film does not promote alcohol, drugs or same-sex love. Rocketman teaches us to acknowledge and correct mistakes, be honest and sincere to ourselves and others, love ourselves and be true to our values. People aren't perfect. They have weaknesses and breakdowns. Someone is so hurt and lonely that they find solace in alcohol and drugs. The Elton John film shows that this is not a way out, but a way to nowhere. Artists are people with a fine mental organization, it is difficult for them to resist temptations, they are prone to extremes. We’ve lost a lot of great musicians who didn’t have the willpower to overcome alcohol and drug addiction (Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston). They were unhappy, but do drugs and alcohol bring happiness? They killed these people. In the movie "Rocketman" Elton after getting rid of alcohol and drug addiction for a split second wondered whether he has talent without alcohol and drugs. A friend told him that his talent does not depend on alcohol and drugs, and Elton is simply afraid of his true feelings. You have to be a brave person to be honest about yourself. Elton is no longer afraid of being himself. The film shows the viewer first of all Elton - a man, not Elton - a star.
There is no doubt that Elton’s songs have a part of his soul, they are connected with his life. He managed to cope with alcohol addiction, found peace in the soul, met love. Elton conquered his weaknesses, which is not given to everyone, but how necessary it is to live! Thanks to the inner world of Elton John, the subtle mental organization of his songs turned out to be sincere and resonated in the hearts of many people.
Spectacular cinema, though biopic could be in more detail. An obsessive bias into musicality, when "documentary scenes" are precisely drawn by the ears into a song. It seems that the writers were limited in biographical material and had a bad idea about what the film would be. However, the overall impression is favorable.
The problem of modern biopics is that they are all built on the same structure:
1) Childhood: an outcast, special, not like everyone else, finds an outlet in ... (write the right one)
2) Youth: Sticks to the party, feels like your own
(3) Popularity: becomes a sensation, finds love, breaks heart, addicted to drugs or alcohol
(4) Maturity: Repels all friends, remains alone, failure in creativity, suicide attempt
(5) Megatvist: either rehabilitation or death
No exception and ' Rocketman' original in it - only format. This is a musical - costumed and bright. I've never listened to Elton John - and when I say ' I haven't listened to' I mean ' I haven't listened to all the albums a few times' like Queen or the Rolling Stones - but the songs chosen for the film are partly known to me, and what a sin to hide, quite like.
In my opinion, the film focuses too much on Elton's romantic relationship. This is probably an important part of his life, but we in Russia are still not used to not squander the scenes of kissing two men - so be prepared to twist your face a couple of times.
Otherwise, if you want to watch some musical performance, slightly flavored with drama - you are at the right place. If you want to see an interesting movie, watch something else.
After a huge box office success wildly praised by the public “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the rental quickly released another story scandalous celebrity, this time Elton John. The project was conceived at the beginning of the zeros and until the spring of 2018 he dangled in limbo, until he finally got under the distribution wing of Paramount with Dexter Fletcher working on Rhapsody in the director's chair. And, although the masterpiece did not come out again, Rocketman definitely wins artistically from the artificial and slick biopic about Freddie Mercury - yes, comparisons between the two films will not be avoided.
The first thing that favorably distinguishes the picture from Fletcher’s previous work, in which, however, he was not alone as a director, is the wise rejection of the banal cosplay of clips and concert numbers diluted with passing conversational scenes about the formation of the musician. The main stages of Elton’s creative ascent are outlined by the enchanting language of the musical with its conventions, an uplifted approach to dramatic moments and spectacularly built numbers, masterfully mounted and smoothly transitioning from one to another. Let the best candidate for the role of himself, John saw Justin Timberlake, who eventually played Sir Elton Taron Edgerton perfectly coped with the task. His game is no longer opening his mouth under the phonogram (the actor performed all the vocal parts himself) and not a technical copying of stage behavior, turning the image of a star on the screen into a stop-faced participant in the show of doubles “On the First”, but the creation of a full-blooded, lively character, revealed emotionally, with a spark, moreover, without the desire for one hundred percent portrait resemblance.
But with drama, everything is not so rosy here - the script of the picture, as well as directing, when describing fateful moments, does not dotted and flipping facts without much immersion. The problem is built predictably and schematically: here is the inattention of parents, here is the support of grandmother, here are the experiences due to orientation, here are the destructive addictions, friendship and betrayal, love and pain, shine and tinsel. All this is told as if for general acquaintance, slim and not too holistic, although even in such a lightweight approach, the authors strive to rely on life-affirming tools and create a good mood. In this regard, to call “Rocketman” a full-fledged musical biopic does not work – it is too often not serious, deliberately decorative and embellished.
If “Bohemian Rhapsody” suffered from the one-sided view of Brian May and Roger Taylor on Freddie Mercury, then controlling the filming process Elton John is more willing to repent of his sins and complain, missing the chance to tell about the most important – a detailed story about inspiration and creativity, which is much more interesting than the stories, who slept with whom, what drank and sniffed. Edgerton's fascination with performances also sometimes risks turning a film into a single-actor theater, although Elton's interactions with relatives, colleagues and friends are plot-relatedly important for shaping his portrait and becoming a personality. Best discharged Jamie Bell, who played the songwriter Bernie Taupin, a good grandmother in the face of Gemma Jones, but it is not enough, but Bryce Dallas Howard as John’s mother is a perfect mixast, besides, by the middle of the film, her age makeup is completely forgotten, why at a certain period she begins to look younger than her “son”.
Summing up the overall result of impressions, we can say that “Rocketman” – a movie, of course, is not very outstanding and a true and very touching story about the problematic life of a talented person does not pull. But its creators are already working in the right direction, approaching work with fiction and sincerity, skillfully masking voids and opening the screen of celebrity, for which every fan wants to look, where not an idol, but a living person is hiding, even if what he saw also has the limits of what is allowed. It is a pity that even these borders were not enough for domestic distributors who bravely used censorship scissors, hiding behind compliance with the current legislation.
The life story of Reginald Kenneth Dwight, who eventually became Elton Hercules John.
What a beautiful movie!! Excellent in all respects! And it is impossible not to compare with ' Bohemian Rhapsody' it was Fletcher who completed its shooting after director Brian Singer was fired from the project. And then he took down this bomb. It seems like two biopics, about recognized musicians and gay icons, made according to common patterns, and what a different result! Magical realism versus sentimental academism, and I don't think there's anything more interesting to look at.
Here, too, the whole history of life ran to the top, but each scene is finished and clearly conveys the desired idea. And together they build an expressive image of a pop idol, distorted by childhood, orientation and star disease. It's a damn bold and candid movie.
The idea of a story frame in the form of a confession at a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous is also excellent and allows you not only to fragment the story as you want, but also to color it with fantastic numbers-memories of the main character. Actually, this is not even a movie, but a lively collection of songs from which the story of life has been formed. Great.
And Taron Edgerton is fantastic at making Elton, and he's never been. And he also sings himself, smart girl.

In an involuntary comparison of the two biopics to which Dexter Fletcher has a hand - "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Rocketman" - it is easy to notice the one in which he was promptly called only to patch the cinematic lacunae, and the one that was inspired from the first to the last scene under his sensitive directorial guidance. In the first case, under the watchful supervision of the group members, a sterile-wikipedic picture was released, whose template unpretentiousness, heavy-duty academic step and overrated imitation performance of the main star were partially compensated by the great melody “Queen”. However, in the second case, resorting in principle to similar staged patterns and building a traditional dramatic temporism, Fletcher came out many times sincere and spiritual production, the real prototype of which did not seek to shamefully smooth out the angles of his scandalous biography, remaining honest not only to the viewer, but above all to himself.
Especially "Rocketman" impresses skillfully woven into the narrative bright, well-realized and visually inventive musical numbers that turn at first glance a classic biopic into an enchanting musical fantasy. And this is the undoubted merit of Taron Edgerton, who not only transformed into a legendary star, he became Elton John. You are instantly bribed by that boiling energy, that acting drive and zealous dedication of which Edgerton with intoxicating ecstasy sculpts the image of one of the most shocking pop stars of the century. But, most importantly, the fact that Taron personally performed all of Elton's hits, rather than doing singing lime under plywood, makes his Oscar-winning colleague shamefully push his prize to the far corner. That’s who deserves everyone’s praise and a heap of awards, which, if the film was released earlier, could return to the actor a hundredfold. I hope he won’t be without nominations this season.
Of course, an important role in this brilliant reincarnation is given to costumers (oh, you can’t take your eyes off these robes) and makeup artists (here’s who you should learn how to organically coexist on the screen with dentures, Rami). Even from this side, Fletcher had a skillful and spectacular picture that deserved fees no less than that of the thundering “Rhapsody”, which bought the audience’s hearts, first of all, by legendary Queen’s cunning, and not by its artistic merits.
In general, an excellent film musical, in which, gradually throwing off his stage tinsel, the singer is not afraid to appear before the audience and fans of a controversial and odious personality who managed not only to pass the rehab thorns, but to make a grand creative comeback.
Verdict: Kulik praises this swamp!
Let's solve the big question right away. Rocketman is similar to Bohemian Rhapsody, but the whole point is that these films are about completely different things, although they are based on the same concept. Isn't that beautiful? Isn’t that the power of cinema? When similar stories create completely different in spirit paintings. But there is no point in forever comparing, but we will still be, just a little bit.
The main difference between the two films, in my humble opinion, is the difference in the very idea of the films. "Bohemian Rhapsody" tells the story of the formation and development of a group, or personality, whatever. Rocketman, in turn, tells us the story of the experiences of a man who suddenly became famous and was left alone surrounded by thousands and perhaps millions of fans. A story about how to lose yourself and find yourself in a new, suitable way.
If we talk about the events occurring in the course of the plot, a lot of time is not needed, since the main timekeeping of the film is packed with a huge, no, a huge number of songs performed by all the characters of the picture. It is the staging of dances and a variety of musical compositions that causes the desire to continue watching, dancing to the characters and nervously looking at the obliquely staring people after the mini clip ends (it is not surprising that at the end the clip appeared). Yes, mostly the film resembles a selection of thematic clips in the playlist “Elton John”, with small intersperses of history.
As for the non-musical part of the picture. To me personally, everything seemed quite secondary, long shown in other paintings biographies, and Disney. The caricature of most characters is very striking and not to say that it was pleasant. If we talk about the plot flaws, then in principle there is nothing terrible in the film, only if the incomprehensible phrase at the beginning, about the incredibly strong friendship of Elton and his co-author, that they have never quarreled in 20 years. I would like to say that if you throw such words with such pathos into the plot, please stick to them. It seems that the authors put on the musical component.
That’s all, as for me, the picture turned out. A good story about love, friendship, loneliness, and most importantly, about music.
What about whether this movie is better than Bohemian Rhapsody (well, it is impossible not to compare, they almost came out together!). It’s about which music you like best. )
While the distributor fought off the attacks of the baseball bat legislation, streaming services came to the aid of the audience who missed the adequacy. Two months later, those who did not want out of their pocket to sponsor the mockery of the cinema were able to enjoy a magical biopic without losing a single minute.
Biographies are like a surprise box. There is always a risk of getting a tedious drama, slowly crawling through the chronology of events filtered out by the subjectivity of the writer. But Dexter Fletcher’s work is bright, brilliant as a star’s costumes, a picture that sets you up to dress up in rhinestones for the rest of the week. However, Rocketman is not only dancing, cool sound and spectacular spectacle, but also a dramatic, sincere, sometimes tearful tape about a shy boy who turned his talent into a weapon of mass admiration.
And now the son of Sheila and Fred is kicking something on the piano
True art is born from the contact of pain with genius. The hero’s life resembles many stories of creative people – childhood, with an irritated mother, forced to take care of an unwanted child. A dry conservative father who never misses an opportunity to prick a sensitive young man. For which music becomes a way to vent emotions and a means of communicating with the world.
The dramaturgy of the picture is built in the form of a chain of episodes told by Elton himself, trying to rethink the years he lived, sitting on an uncomfortable chair in a clinic for addicts. He re-evaluates each step. Warmly telling about his best friend, hysterically remembering betrayal and with tender sadness talking about marriage as a desperate attempt to restore order in life - a spurt followed by a shaking "forgiveness", addressed either to the traumatized feelings of the chosen one or to himself. Just as the dazzling tinsel gradually descends from the hero, the tone of the musical accompaniment also changes - incendiary hits become more soft and personal. And dotted with metaphors, the video adds the author's charm to the tape.
Stop being ashamed of everything
It is respectful with what candor Elton John laid out to Lee Hall not always pleasant, intimate details of his life. A strong script is complemented by live acting work. Pretty ate kilograms Taron Edgerton accurately adopted the expressive facial expressions of the artist. And thanks to the light portrait similarity, created not without the help of makeup and the right angles, it looks very organic. Perfectly embodied and disgusting image of the luscious, unscrupulous manipulator John Reed, left in the picture as a reminder of how fatal can become a painful relationship.
The Ministry of Culture warns: drugs and gayness harm the rental license
Although the box office of cinemas and did not remain empty, let us consider that the sluggish attempt to impose the viewer “acceptable” for watching the movie failed. Contrary to the desire of the censors to turn “Rocketman” into a soulless carnival, the film was able to become for us a fervent manifesto of the unstoppable desire for love and freedom.
“A disgusting, talentless craft, not worth your time and money” – perhaps for such a brief description of this film you can immediately grab a fair portion of accusations of homophobia, support for censorship, etc. Let’s put everything in its place:
1) I am not a fan of Elton John and his work, but I consider him an interesting personality, the scale of which really deserves a high-quality film adaptation.
2) I do not care about his sexual orientation, it did not affect my perception of the film.
(3) I am very negative about censorship. I don’t want the audience to decide what to see and what not to see. I want to decide this. And if the filmmakers believe that there must be bed scenes (homosexual, heterosexual - it does not matter), then they must be there. And no one should decide for us whether we want to see these scenes in the film or not.
This is the position I hold now, the same it was before watching the film. And yet, personally, I find the film disgusting. Why? The answer is banal: it's a bad movie. And it's not about censorship, cut scenes, or Elton John's orientation. It's simple: this movie is poorly written, poorly played, poorly filmed and poorly edited.
Instead of a story, we were rolled out some sort of messy slicing with feathers and confetti. Elton is a little boy, no one likes him or understands him. He is a musician, but no one likes him or understands him. And he's already a global star. And yes, he's still not loved or understood, so he's boozing and throwing drugs. Elton John has outgrown himself. Now he loves himself and he's happy! The end. There is simply no main character in this movie. He has no path, he does not grow above himself. The hero does not go through a path that changes and draws some conclusions. So the ultimate catharsis smells like a cheap fake. You can argue, but these rules are the basic basics of script art. The hero must have a way, because it is cinema, and cinema is always history.
The hero has no motivation, he does not get the proper disclosure. He just stays the same throughout the movie. Even the trivial difficulties of climbing the musical Olympus are not shown for such films. Speaking of motivation, the film has big problems with that. Think about Elton's mother. Yes, she is cold to her son and is not particularly interested in his life. But his creative impulses she does not suppress, even condescendingly supports. So where did this scene come from at the end, when a mother suddenly turns into an unbalanced bitch and shouts hatefully, "I regret having you"? Where do these unmotivated fractures come from? What happened behind the scenes? I will tell you – behind the scenes there was a bad script in which there is nothing but huge plot holes.
All the whining. Movie Elton John is a weak, downtrodden, infantile boy without a drop of self-respect. Did the musician himself like this interpretation of his life? Life is quite dramatic and eventful, please note. I’m not a fan of Elton John. But as a person related to music, I fully appreciated his composer's talent. A talent that for years has fought its way through the misunderstanding and brutality of a sloppy, conservative society. In my humble opinion, a person of this magnitude deserves a more holistic, deeper, and verified film. Not this idealess craft, where the script void is covered with feathers and false attempts of Taron Edgerton to squeeze a tear out of himself.
There's another side, though. Do you know many musicians who are no longer with us? Lots. And how many of them built such monuments during their lifetime? I don't remember anything like that. Is Elton John really like that? An eternally aching, infantile, insecure boy with nothing but a musical gift? The boy who wanted to see a movie in the style of “I am the Great!” Judging by Elton's reaction, he liked the film. Well, in that case, he got exactly what he deserved.
And yes, Taron Edgerton. Perhaps this handsome smooth boy looks good in superficial humorous images. In youth films for an undemanding audience. But in a dramatic game he simply can not, can not. Playing the dramatic roles of great people is not his. He's not out yet. Bleakless-talented “blochbusters” like the last “Robin Hood” – this is his real level.
This is one of the biggest disappointments of the year. I don’t want to offend anyone who liked the film. I think everything is learned by comparison. Maybe you just have nothing to compare. Do you want a good music biopic? Watch the movie Ray. Or "Breaking the Line." So, feel the difference. Yes, the same “Bohemian Rhapsody” felt ten times more complete and thoughtful tape than “Rocketman”.
Disgusting work. Disgusting censorship. Disgusting impressions.
The film is not bad, but unfortunately did not live up to expectations. The unambiguous successes of the film include Edgerton’s excellent work, makeup, the work of the costume designer and a fairly adequate depiction of Elton John’s life path (unlike the same “Bohemian Rhapsody”, where the narrative seems to break in the middle, and Mercury’s childhood and becoming a musician are not shown completely). Well, then the problems begin and the most important of them is the genre. The authors of the picture tried to sit on two chairs at once - a serious biopic and a cheerful musical. The idea, given the plot, may be not bad, but the implementation, alas, pumped up. When, in tragic moments or during an important conversation, the characters (and not only Elton) begin to sing and fly into space in the form of a rocket, the tragedy turns into a farce and it is quite difficult to take seriously what is happening. This is not “Mama Mia!”, where the fictional simple plot is perfectly woven songs “ABBA”, here sometimes it seems that the songs are inserted forcibly, and you do not have time to get pleasure from them, since the performance is usually limited to one or two verses. As a result, the film leaves a very contradictory impression and, if it were not for Edgerton and the beautiful music of Elton John, there would be, frankly, nothing to catch in it. Only lazy did not write about shameful censorship on the big screen, there is nothing to add to this, I watched the film in the full version.

In 1988, Elton John released Reg Strikes Back. It was a sort of return from the stagnation of the mid-1980s and, importantly, a return to its roots: acceptance of oneself both on and off the stage. For the first time in 15 years of alcohol and drug addiction, the musician was able to focus on music rather than personal problems. Interestingly, none of the songs "Reg Strikes Back" was included in "Rocketman", but the film tells about the events that culminated in the transformation from a pop parrot and troublemaker into one of the main musicians of our time.
Rocketman is mostly set in memories. Elton John in the mid-80s looks back on his life while in rehab. The film spans about 30 years from the musician's life, highlighting a few moments when Elton felt most good or most depressed. There is also a place for John’s bad relationship with his parents, a long-standing friendship with the songwriter Bernie, a pernicious relationship with a lover-manager, recognition of his sexual orientation and a descent into an emotional hell fueled by alcohol and drugs. While "Rocketman" never pretends to be entirely fact-based, it's amazing how Elton John could be such a talented and productive performer given the challenges he faced.
Director Dexter Fletcher chose a direction different from that shown in Bohemian Rhapsody. Fletcher didn’t have complete creative control over the biopic, and it’s clear that Rocketman and Rhapsody overlap. However, instead of following the traditional biopic route with musical interludes, Rocketman uses musical inserts as a flight of fantasy to highlight emotional moments. For example, during the performance of the song "Crocodile Rock" John and his audience literally soar to the sky, covered with music. Era-changing scenes are also realized through songs where John starts them at the same age and in the same costume and finishes them at another stage of his life. Perhaps it is not so necessary, it looks a little cocky, but impressive and does not reboot the narrative.
There is no doubt that Taron Edgerton is one of the most talented young actors of today. In Rocketman, the actor may have jumped over his head: Edgerton doesn't just portray John, he literally lives him. While one might wonder whether Rami Malek's performance in Rhapsody was the height of acting (at least critically acclaimed) or just superb facial expressions, in Rocketman, Edgerton not only captured John's image in his eccentricity, but also in quieter moments. Most importantly, Edgerton looks more organic in musical inserts than Malik in the musical about Queen.
Two other important actors in Rocketman are Jamie Bell and Richard Madden. Bell played the very humane role of Elton John’s friend, Bernie, whose importance to the musician’s life cannot be underestimated. His role in the film balances emotional brightness. Madden, on the other hand, played a villain - for such a pronounced antagonist criticized as "Rhapsody", and, probably, now "Rocketman"; well, do not need a villain!
As for the soundtrack, it will be appreciated by those who are familiar with the work of Sir Elton. With the exception of a new song played during the final credits, the film's music center is firmly focused on the 1970s. Most of Elton John's most famous songs are performed in whole or in fragments.
A glamorous musical full of brilliance, emotion and joy from music and life, a worthy biographical film balances both elevation and decline. Eras in the life of Elton John change one after another, effectively placing musical inserts that allow one way or another to tell about the life of a pop idol. Favorite hits this time are not reduced to background noise, recreating a real stage show, which is correct to place accents. Powerful visual metaphors are enhanced by the charisma and charm of Edgerton, who conveys his emotions to the viewer. In any case, even the dubious scenes of homosexuality and experiments with drugs and alcohol are sewn into the script very elegantly - Rocketman uses well-known songs at times in a dark and evil way, which works even more: this is the film that is not limited to the rhythms of the traditional biopic.
Music is good, but when it comes together with an interesting visual, then you get something really extraordinary. Relatively recently, we saw a similar symbiosis in Bohemian Rhapsody, which was not a perfect film with its production problems, but managed to hook us by the strings of the soul thanks to the great music and talent of Rami Malek, who played Freddie Mercury. In early summer, director Danny Boyle toyed with the legacy of While McCartney and John Lennon in Yesterday, delighting fans of the legendary rock 'n' roll from Liverpool. There is no “Rocketman” in the back rows, which successfully joined such a cool company and gave us the incredible story of Elton John.
The film tells us about the formation of a modest boy Reggie Dwight, who loved his family very much and could not imagine his life without the piano. Over the years, his interest in music only grew stronger, and he entered the conservatory, and then turned into a self-sufficient musician who is able to lure crowds of fans to the stadium with his own name.
Taking the name Elton John, Mr. Dwight was never afraid to go against public opinion, gave out unexpected performances and always gave reason to journalists who invented incredible legends about him. Elton John’s life became a myth, and he was flattered. In addition, he was not against stirring up interest in his person, because without scandal and hype around his person, he no longer represented himself.
It’s not that Rocketman refers to documentaries, or inspired by real events. I understand that many of the facts from Elton John’s biography were brought to the screen as they were, but the filmmakers wanted to show the semblance of a fairy-tale musical. This approach turned out to be unconventional for biopics about cult personalities, but Elton John wanted exactly this and was right.
The film turned out to be very bright and light, while it found room for difficult revelations and tense moments. But first of all, this is a rich picture of a magnificent person who makes mistakes, scandalous, but knows what love and friendship are.
This film is worth watching not only Elton John fans, but also people who are interested in something new and are ready to appreciate the self-sufficient movie, with which time flies by unnoticed.

Joo-joo-joo, you can hear the buzz of another movie, and it's not clear if it will bring happiness or bitterness. I'm going to pop my cooled repertoire and beat the drum, just because millions of people need it. And the will will write "Rock and roll forehead, or?" Yes, it is, any truly subtle creative unit always has the whistling of rock and roll interspersed with depression. Depression is a difficult diagnosis. When you can ski directly from a snowy hill to emerge on the stage and leave from there on a gurney, and then on a trampoline. And, by the way, plush toys become your best friends for life, replacing all the greedy and dishonest pretenders. Come on, producer, cut my soft body apart, and give it to the unenlightened. Go, studio, everything is in your huge hands, let the dolphins slide together on my smooth skin, spit on complaints and indignation. Pour the wound with alcohol, powder the hematoma with cocaine, numb the headache with weed and dull the gnashing in your heart and stomach with promiscuous sex. I give you carte blanche because you're special, you're human. "What if I'm a cartoon hero?" Well, don't fuck with me, this is not the time for such questions. Don’t forget about zinc souls, even if you feel it doesn’t mean everyone around you shares it. And there are idols, even though many are painted on Easter Island, but still symbols that inspire thousands of confidence from the stage ... for a couple of hours.
Kill your moron, Elton, people need you. No time to be discouraged, no time to grieve the champion. They believe in you or your shell, they believe. In God We Trust. The foundations collect donations. I'm still standing. And we should go higher, as usual. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa When you bite off a piece of orange, it becomes not so tasty, shove a whole kiwi down your throat and immediately understand what the power is. And somehow we like it better at the bottom, there are not all these ... well, you understand. You can spit, but I know that many of you don't get much out of this concept. I turn on your songs, and the circulation of good mood starts with a new functional force. I then have a direct desire to eat the piano and resettle the spirit of the notes and the eternal sound of that time. Give me some wind! You can do your psychoanalysis, but don't leave it as it is. The Philippines is probably very beautiful. Can you bring me some pictures from the tour? Many who are also gay, there is nothing to be ashamed of. But I'm not him or you or them. Not a homosexual. Such a concept does not exist at all. But there is everything you can imagine.
Boring! Brother, you said you weren't gonna make that ten-page tirade again. Most ear bones and membranes have long been absent. Let me go on and share my genuine opinion on this question. "Okay, I believe in you." But Elton Jonchik is so pretty, nice, and in funny colorful outfits always sings and dances on a big stage. And there is so much fun, everyone is happy and goes home in a good mood. And here he was often sad, bad people always hurt him - I want to come and hug, promising that everything will be fine. Enclose this radiant lump in your warm embrace and do not let go until it feels better. And also give a fumigator for your birthday to exterminate harmful insects. And you don't need chemistry, pure organic is the whole point of your life. In the Queen's lavish suit, you're equal to a ragged rag in dirty, worn clothes, isn't that beautiful? We were in the hospital, but let's all join hands and dance around a dying carcass that called itself the darkness of a past generation. The present does not get out of the world, which calls itself the darkness on the kitchen, where fragments of other people's fates, wrapped in incorruptible songs of dead and still alive drug addicts or too righteous abstainers fly out of the sab. Don’t tell me, I already know something.
But for all the cuteness, mi-mi, sometimes it's kind of cruel, because of surrealism, when you have to break down and rebuild yourself like a machine. I'm sorry! The centipede will be in the ear - a ribbon, and the real king of rock 'n' roll will be on the throne - Elvis Presley (roughly). We once at the airport tried not to miss, looking at my suitcase — shuchuuu ... we never go to the airport, it is disgusting. But this has nothing to do with Elton. You're in a different universe, a different galaxy, so after all those trials, the murky dust, you can't reach it. Sometimes it makes me sick of all this, but we're holding on for people like you. Do you like love? And don't be sad. I'm always having fun, I don't even think about such insignificant things, it can be much more interesting even how an ant climbs the hill. And even if it wasn't very fun, my brother was always there, ready to cheer me up with something special. Ten pins are stuck in one hand, twelve in the other, we catch up with the record, and without resuscitation, only here and now, and there are no shoes on the legs (what is it for?). Thank you for brightening up our evening, Elton, with your story. I'm going to make some tea.
Well, since I started, I think I should finish. Music fills us every day. Wrap the neck of the enemy from another camp with a chain, but he will not take off his headphones, roll up his sleeves and wrestle with a chain in beat. And they stand there and laugh, but I don't care. Just don't take any more pills, those bitter capsules and that were better. Where did the sound come from? Probably down the stairs. Hysteria in an expensive mansion or penthouse, like everything, has its reasons, do not underestimate the danger of raccoons that sit on your lawn, even if you are a millionaire who owns a large corporation, or a superstar who releases hit after hit. Anyone can lose cards. The main thing is that I do not like to get up again and again, accept myself, fight with inner demons. They may be made of cotton, but everything can be etched with due diligence. That boy in the hospital was also saying, "Well, let's have some light and lots of colors!" When they turn off the lights, it becomes boring, scary and fearful.”
I am an alcoholic, drug addict, gay, erotoman and a shopaholic.
This is a piercing, incredibly bright, lively and slightly psychedelic fantasy story about one of the most unique musicians of his time - Elton John, in a brilliant performance by a young English actor.
Director of the film Dexter Fletcher, who produced this year’s Oscar-winning biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”, in the new film coped with his task as best as possible.
"Rocketman" is a surreal musical drama based on Elton John's most famous hits.
It is not only about becoming a world-class star, but also mainly about what preceded this crazy rock and roll cocktail of rhinestones, feathers, incredible glasses and the most vivid stage images. The film reveals very personal moments from the biography of the musician, where the real drama begins in childhood. A huge thirst for love and attention eventually becomes a powerful source of inspiration and a driving creative force for young Reggie Dwight. But at the same time, the never-ending pain and loneliness pushes the singer at the peak of his career to the brink of a precipice. A real rocket man, he was able to fly to the sky, then get to the bottom and survive.
The film gets goosebumps, getting into the very soul. To be honest, it touched me even more than Bohemian Rhapsody. Definitely in the collection of the best musical films.
I highly recommend it to watch, especially fans of the musician's work!
The only sad thing is that our sanctimonious distributors rendered it to us stripped down, but we live in the 21st century. I didn’t see the deleted erotic scenes in the provocative “Nymphomaniac” by Von Trier, double standards kill simply. I really hope I will have the opportunity to see the whole film, even in the original, will be a great reason to review this cool tape.
PS. As an afterword to the review, I would like to add that I will always stand for freedom of choice in all its forms. We decide who we are in this life. The main thing is to find the strength to follow your dream, not to go with the flow, looking back at someone’s biased, socially imposed opinion. And in the film, this idea is voiced more than clearly.
General impression: I wanted to see this tape when it was released, but it so happened that in my city the film was not going. No wonder I miss a lot and catch up later. And so, having reached the viewing, I sat more comfortably in the chair and began to consider the Papuan outfits of Taron, sorry, Elton.
We, as a viewer are introduced to the life of Elton John, but everything is so fresh, everything is so boring, so unideal, and by the rolled up. That the film is frankly uninteresting, you will not lose anything if you do not watch this creation. Periodically, the tape presses on emotions, telling that Elton did not absorb, did not receive parental love. Frankly, it becomes like a child his pity, but everything is played clichéd, from which history cannot cause deep sympathy.
But what did you want to show? It is easier to take a period of time than to gallop about life. As a result, this is a musical, there are no dramatic moments, no one comes to the throat from a terrible life. Censorship? Yes, there is nothing in this, cut the film in wide release, nothing lost. I'm talking about the bed scene, I don't know why. But as all art shouts, it must not be circumcised! I'm neither cold nor hot from this scene. The others were cut out. Well, maybe it looked even more dynamic, I can not say anything.
Pluses of the film is a good camera decision and acting Taron. The rest is a boring passing movie devoid of drama and zest. The Oscar nomination will definitely be, about the victory itself, I doubt you need to look at the other candidates.

Recently, I began to notice that the shooting of biopics is gaining special popularity. Some people stamp them and we see the usual ' Rhapsody', remembered only by Quinn's music and can notice such a project as ' Rocketman'.
No, don't think about it, I don't mind a movie about Mercury and his band. Just against the background of this product, the work simply fades and seems simpler. However, if there was nothing particularly bad or masterpiece in it, then absolutely everything is beautiful in the film about Sir Elton.
The idea of mixing a biopic with a musical is original. And that combination on the screen looks great. Watch the dialogue of the two characters and sharply under the dynamic music, everyone rushes into the dance, accompanying it with chic camera work and editing. Similar brightness was in 'Rhapsody' only in the final, alas.
And besides that, the actors here are just chic. Not only does Taron manage to play in every scene as it should, without overplaying and underplaying, so he also sings. And his singing is amazing.
Of course, the story itself looks banal. The main character is a modest kid who is underestimated by society and is surrounded by problems. But it is served under such a bright wrapper with beautiful musical numbers that all the predecks fall somewhere to the side.
But look better in the original, obviously. After all, in the Russian version, most of the film was cut and moments everything is so precipitous that you barely have time to catch something. But this is not a negative quality and ' Rocketman' for this, of course, I will not lower the score.

Since film and music are inextricably linked, and it has accompanied it almost since its inception, it is now the film itself that is dedicated to it. More specifically, those who make this music.
Sir Elton John is known even in the most remote corners of the world (actually in the remote villages of Russia). But his songs are less popular than Queen songs, so the release of Rocketman was less successful. Paramount and the producers persistently decided to embody this biography in the cinema, and called in the director's chair a beautiful actor Dexter Fletcher ("Cards, money, two barrels", "Doom", "Depth"), with whom I saw a lot of good films. Fletcher has been acting in films since the 1970s, and in 2011 he made his directorial debut. At the end of 2017, he finished “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and at the beginning of 2018 he took the helm of “Rocketman”. And for a long time as the performer of the main role was listed Tom Hardy.
The film concentrates on the life of the singer, before placing him in rehab (he went there of his own free will), respectively, later works, such as the great Can You Feel the Love Tonight from "The Lion King", we will not hear. Nevertheless, this film is replete with many musical numbers with famous songs. In particular, there is, of course, the chic Goodbye Yellow Brick Road! "Rocketman" is more of a musical. And surreal and staged. From a directing point of view, the film is very well staged. There are some scenes that look playful and awkward. But they are quite there, maybe a couple. Fletcher, as a director, no less talented than an actor. There is not much in the film about homosexual relationships. Cocaine is sniffed a couple of times in the movie. But he drank almost completely. This is what it is.
The costumes of Elton are made cool and spectacular. And in general, the situation of that time was conveyed quite well. In England 50-70-ies perfectly play actors. Separately, I will note the beautiful and remarkable Bryce Dallas Howard ( "The Mysterious Forest", "Jurassic World", "The Help", "Life is beautiful"), which filled either for this film or just so. She played Reginald Dwight's slightly neurotic mother. His parents didn’t seem to be doing well. Father played Stephen Mackintosh ( "Another world", "Escape from prison"). He did not love his son and eventually left the family. He was much better treated by his stepfather in the performance of Tom Bennett. Since childhood, only his grandmother, Gemma Jones, loved him and encouraged music in every possible way. The best friend and songwriter was played well by Jamie Bell (King Kong, Eagle of the Ninth Legion, Teleport, Through Snow). The role of John Reed’s manager was played by Richard Madden (Game of Thrones). The first two managers were played by the famous English actor Stephen Graham ("Big jackpot", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Johnny D.") and the lesser known Charlie Rowe ("Don't let me go", "Golden Compass").
And, undoubtedly, the best actor of this film is Taron Edgerton. I’m not a fan of Kingsman, but as an actor of Edgerton, you showed in this film that he’s a really wonderful and very talented actor. I did not expect such a performance from him. Throughout the film, I didn’t see him play. I've seen him live that role. That doesn't often happen in movies. It happens that actors play well, but living a role is not always possible. Bravo for him! And if Malek deservedly received the Oscar, then Egerton is undoubtedly worthy of it!
"Rocketman" shows a colorful extravaganza of musical numbers throughout the timekeeping. This is a film about accepting yourself, finding your place in the world, and about love. It sounds corny, though. But that's exactly what the picture shows. How Elton John became what he became. And more. I'm not going to get upset: I'm against censoring movies.
