Today the name of Valery Babich is a Ukrainian screenwriter, director, producer, quite well known to the viewer, thanks to the long-term cooperation of his graphic studio Babich Design with Star Media. Almost every year, Channel One (rarely “Russia”) shows another documentary project by Babich Design and Star Media using computer graphics and reconstruction. But if we talk about the first such works on Russian television, then before working with Star Media, Valery Babich created graphic projects for the TVC channel: “Battle for Moscow”, “History of the Russian State”, “The Tale of the Baptism of Rus”.
In 2006 year, when the country celebrated the 65th anniversary of the beginning of the counter-offensive of Soviet troops in the battle of Moscow, TVC began showing the documentary series Valery Babich — "Battle for Moscow"
.
The peculiarity of this project is that it was completely made using 3D graphics. This allowed the creators of the series to become closer to the target audience - schoolchildren (whose pastime is mainly associated with computer games). So showing how the troops moved on the map using computer graphics is a pretty good idea - both visually and modernly. In addition, I consider the chosen timekeeping to be successful - the duration of one series was no more than 4 minutes. So, without excessive “watering” for 65 episodes will cover such topics as the plan “Barbarossa” and the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, evacuation and general mobilization, the activities of Soviet partisans and the beginning of the counteroffensive. In addition, separate series will be devoted to specific battles of 1941 and military operations, characteristics of German and Soviet weapons. In the final series, we will talk about the medal “For the Defense of Moscow” and the results of the battle for Moscow.
In my opinion, the film turned out to be interesting and informative. The author managed to distance himself from assessing the activities of Hitler and Stalin, emphasizing the enumeration of facts and figures (but not causing boredom to the viewer). It is not surprising that its success affected the popularity in general, such documentary projects with computer graphics about the war – it is enough to recall the films released in 2009-2012 by the studio “Wings of Russia”, shot for the TV channel “Star”: “Armor of Russia”, “Cars in uniforms”, “Victory Weapons”, etc. Although, looking ahead, I like the Great War project with Star M|edia better. But the series “Battle for Moscow” did not become worse, and is still relevant.
