“Gretsky Nut” is a novelty of domestic cinema in the genre of romantic comedy, which will appeal to everyone who likes international projects. The film itself is Russian, but almost all the action takes place in Greece, so most of the dialogue is in a foreign language.
The film was directed by a little-known screenwriter and producer Stas Ivanov, who for his career has not yet shot a big movie for hire. In the piggy bank of the director there are several TV series and television films, so you should not be surprised by the visual presentation of the picture, because it is not far from this format.
In the story, the insecure protagonist parted with his beloved, but soon finds out that his girlfriend is being pursued by a common friend, who eventually took her to Greece. The hero headlong goes in pursuit, but by coincidence is in a benevolent captivity of the local mafia. And all would be fine, but the guy manages to fall in love with the daughter of the owner of the house. And now he is at a crossroads, not understanding his further actions: either let go of his former love in peace and start all over again, or resist new feelings and continue to fight for a proven relationship. I don’t know about you, but such a spiritual and moral plot is more suitable for a big series or a complex author’s film about finding yourself, but certainly not for a simple romantic melodrama with elements of comedy.
As it seems to me, one of the reasons for the failure of the picture at the box office is precisely the slurred storyline and the incomprehensibility of everything that is happening. The guy now loves his girlfriend, then rushes into the arms of a new chosen one. He's constantly rushing and not behaving like a man. There is a feeling that we are facing a certain variation of the insecure punk, who is completely unprepared for adult serious life and especially for serious relationships. If so, why did the authors not send the hero to the Alps, or on a great journey to learn about himself, or encourage him to commit some heroic act for the benefit of mankind?
But in the end, the authors could not think of anything else, how to throw a guy into the arms of another woman, so that he and her soar brain, and spoil a happy life, because do not forget that the guy we have a specific smudge. As a result, we watch in the next hour and a half, as our hero wanders back and forth and in the end comes to a conclusion that the viewer already knew from the very beginning of the film. That's not to say, but there's no intrigue, no mystery, no highlight, and I'm not even talking about directorial chips. You can safely forget about all this, because you will find the most ordinary, secondary and banal love story, about which we are shown daily on the channel Russia 1.
Of course, funny humorous notes slip through the film, but there are very few of them, so you should be content with what you have. It is worth noting that in the film, in parallel with the main plot, there is a development of the second story about a girl who runs after the friend of the main character throughout the film. But who is she, why does she run, what does she achieve? The authors of the picture never answered these questions.
And notice that I only touched on a small part of all the shortcomings of the picture. And there are quite a few. But with all the downsides, there is still a little light at the end of the tunnel. Personally, I was very pleased to admire the Greek young actress Sissi Tumasi, with whom the main character falls in love. Of course, you can understand it, because it is quite difficult not to fall in love with such a cute girl. The girl was very organic, cheerful, active and attractive. It is pleasant to look at, it is pleasant to listen to and even want to empathize with her, but, unfortunately, due to the weak script, the heroine is limited in actions, so she does little, but talks a lot.
Unfortunately, almost all the heroes were never revealed. The superficial story did not impress me at all and even left me in some bewilderment. As for the production, it is quite good, but there is nothing special about it. It's very simple and disposable. I will not recommend, but if you are an ardent fan of Kirill Kaganovich or Alexander Robak, then I wish you a pleasant view.
