What do most people know about the Knights Templar? I do not remember historical films about this order, meanwhile, knightly orders still have a great influence in the world, even our Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was awarded the highest award of the Malta Crusader Order - the Knights Military Cross for mercy, salvation and assistance.
The first season begins in 1291 with the siege of Acre, one of the few remaining Crusader possessions. The siege is shown quite briefly, but the quality of filming is not inferior to the box office films a la “Witch Time”, etc. It is immediately clear that the series is not cracked and filmed on conscience. With his return to his homeland, in France, the master of the Paris Order of the Crusaders named Landry did not have less problems, because now King Philip IV of France looks at him obliquely. The fact is that the Order of the Templars was a kind of medieval PMC, directly subordinate only to the Pope. The king of France saw in the order only uncontrollable military force, and therefore a threat. Although there was no real threat to the throne of the Order under the leadership of Sir Landry, paranoia and corruption by the absolute monarchy did their dark work: the king set as his goal to inflict a military defeat on the Order and destroy all who were in it. To make matters worse, Queen Jeanne of France was Landry’s mistress. Only the will of the Pope could save the situation, but corruption and undercover intrigues led to the fact that Rome betrayed its knights, who with blood and then gained victory over Muslims during the Crusades. The only thing that could help would be a new crusade, so that Rome would have a material interest in helping the crusaders. But will Landry agree? After all, the Crusaders were not just greedy mercenaries, wild geese, ready to do anything for profit, but religiously motivated warriors of Christ, with high moral principles and with the idea of taking possession of the Holy Grail – a relic that was seemingly lost irretrievably. Soldiers face a difficult moral choice in the difficult and dangerous situation in which they find themselves: betray their nature and everything they believed in or decide to suicidal resistance to the oppressive power of the French king.
First of all, I want to note the magnificent play of the little-known actress Olivia Ross, who played the Queen of France Jeanne, Landry’s beloved, so naturally created the image of such a pure and positive female character, which is actually difficult not to fall in love with.
Caught in a situation of constant psychological pressure, bullying, blackmail and bullying by her husband, Jeanne will try to find a political way out of the deadly deadlock. Ed Stoppard also perfectly coped with the role of an overbearing bastard, in my opinion, the character turned out to be no less bastard than Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones.
The second season is very dynamic, the action scene in its danger surpasses any “Killer’s Creed” or “Prince of Persia”. In general, if you do not get to the historicity according to the official version of history, the realism of “The Fall of the Order” is not inferior to films about the Crusaders, such as, for example, “The Iron Knight”.

Guys, this is... this is... this is a fantastic bottom.
This will be a fairly simple review, without ornateness and 'library' style. Because it's not worth it. So,
Watched the season at 2 p.m. It's been a long time since I've seen such an enchanting delusion. Achinea begins with the first minutes of the first series and then along the rolled some fierce game.
Battle scenes - God, what are they? The most primitive barbarians fought. We didn’t fight, we didn’t fight, we just jumped into some pointless mahach. You guys have Shields. Shield, man, has the function of covering the body. You're knights! And GG, an aki ninja, starts each rubilova with a jump of 2 meters and throwing the shield aside. The R.H.L.D. would have been shut down all at once, and the G.G. would have ended without even having time to hit someone. Especially delivers how he cut and jumped with a broken knee. GG is just an elf, a nauseating cliché of any movie or book.
A knight is a hereditary, glorified nobleman, who has been trained for generations only in military skills. Here they also showed some warriors with dull dummy swords, who fight like Papuans from ' Spartacus'.
Dialogues are primitive to ugliness, the characters think and push matches at the level of kindergarten.
The Queen walks for nothing, alone, without hiding, through the smelly medieval streets, smiling sweetly and unequivocally at that moment to the arrived GG, and no one around knows that this is the Queen.
The king has only one adviser? And even so frankly insolent and rude, literally in the open weaves his intrigues and turns things around and no one sees at point-blank range. Hospadeh ...
Saracens... When I see them, I have only one image – a hybrid of Conchita Wurst and ISIS. How old is Rashid there? 35, offhand? And his son? 25-30? Hmm. Even in the Middle Ages, it's a scaffold.
By the way, one of the Saracens, which trippy GG sees, being in his trip 8-year-old child - he meets him already in real time, and that Saracen looks the same, with a speech ' remember when we first met, when Godfrey picked you up?' Of course I remember, you're a fore-young, man!
Saracens in full kit walk around Paris, like at home, no one cares, and can penetrate any castle / fortress.
And this Mongolian girl super-duper-assassin - here only triple facepalm, know comment.
Perceval on the Ali Express acquires the outfit of another order and single-handedly takes out the Gopnik in the Leather Step of the Flyer with Wraps, where he kills him without getting an answer to his question, but returns and says ' I know for whom he works' And he comes back in the same outfit, Nenuacho, all blind imbeciles. TBM.
And, well, the ubiquitous favorite blunder of all ' historians'-moviemakers that every homeless man and peasant has a sword and a fighting horse in his stash. Which, by medieval standards, is as if every beggar now had a Bentley garage and an arsenal of small arms. And of course, every peasant is born with the skills of a swordsman.
From history there are only names of locations and some names. Everything.
The number of blunders and script delirium is simply off the scale. Well, and fantasy ' detective' a la ' Code da Vinci' ... handgun.
In short, who is interested in the history of this era, read books and documents, but this slag even under a beer is vomiting to look, only if you completely turn off the brain.
“I couldn’t go to the cake,” says one of the characters in the original English language. In Russian, this phrase was translated as “I couldn’t just go for a cup of tea”. Indeed, it is difficult to go for a cup of tea in the early XIV century, when tea was not even brought to Europe. In this case, the claim to the translators does not cancel the claims to the creators of the series. The team of creators includes a dozen directors and screenwriters, for whom the genre of historical drama is not the main one. An open question remains, what prompted the TV channel “History” to collect such a team and still let you shoot what the viewer as a result and received on the screen?
And if you deal with the motives of producers, directors, screenwriters and artists is very problematic, then it is much easier to deal with what appeared on the screen. The viewer is invited to watch a “historic” series, more like a detective with elements of drama, adventure and action movie, turned into the past. The Middle Ages in this series are nothing more than a bad and not particularly interesting set for this adventure series. Chasing, conspiracies, intrigue, poisoning and even attempted terrorist attacks - all this in the series is so much that the viewer can not concentrate on the characters, their characters.
The characters of the series themselves are clearly collective images (as much in the bad sense of this expression as possible), containing the features of many historical personalities scattered in time, but devoid of their historicity and self. The creators clearly endowed Queen Joan of Arc with the features of Joan of Arc (why not, both Jeannes), and Queen Elena in her frenzy is more like the image of Mary Bloody.
This kind of series often sins against historical accuracy, but rarely do series shoot so poorly. It is not so much the historical inaccuracies that are annoying as the fragmentation of the conception of the epoch. Sometimes the creators of the series strive to convey the essence of the era in its entirety: the piety of the Templars, in which you believe, the relationship between the king and the courts, the king and the queen, between the Templars and the Pope. The people of the Middle Ages did have a slightly different worldview than ours, and truly believed in God, which to us modern viewers sometimes seems naivety or playfulness. Heroes of the series sometimes start talking about life after death, about the importance of faith in Christ, then talk as if they are from another era. As a small example, the phrase of Philip the Beautiful “I am France!”, which is clearly associated with the XVIII century, since there could be no talk of any absolute monarchy and identification of king and kingdom at the beginning of the XIV century, about which Philip the Beautiful himself remembers perfectly in other series: “I summoned nobles throughout the country, but it will take two weeks.”
The creators of the series literally blew up the space-time of the historical era, removing from the series all men from the Capetian dynasty, except Philip IV, allowed Jeanne to rush to save “native Navarre”, introduced some Louis of Catalonia, the son of some Queen Helena, made England a real rival of France (although it is known that the English king gave the oath of vassal to Philip IV), mixed all the dates, causes and effects, seasoning all this with stamps about “assins” (for in the East, as we know from American films, there is nothing but talented masters / killers).
The plot revolves around the Holy Grail, which in the series is presented as a bowl from which Christ drank during the Last Supper. However, there were not without anachronisms. Instead of showing what shrines meant to the people of the Middle Ages (and at the time they were really one of the most important things, often priceless), the creators of the series hammer into the mind the idea that the Holy Grail is a kind of a real “fifth element”, which, according to the laws of the narrative of Dan Brown, should be hidden and protected by the “chosen”. Naturally, everything is not so simple - and the whole series the protagonist tries to find the Holy Grail, which, as it turns out, is not only hunting him. Along the way, he is waiting for trials, conspiracies, betrayals, murders and everything that the protagonist must meet in his path to fulfill his goal. True, instead of pistols - swords, instead of bombs - Greek fire, instead of the fifth element - the Holy Grail.
In general, the series is difficult to recommend to anyone to watch. If you are a fan of high-quality historical films, then this series is clearly not for you, since you will not find anything except individual characters and events (significantly perverse) from the history of France in the early XIV century. As for the adventures and drama, in the series both turned out to be very unconvincing, as if glued together from the components of other films and books, so well known to us.
The fall of the order tries to seem like a historical series, only its authors are not familiar with history, from the word at all. They have heard about individual historical facts, but do not understand the context in which they took place, or simply do not want to use real events. Quite a strange solution for a channel called History, but the disregard for the source material does not make the series bad.
But what makes the series bad is a boring plot, all the intrigues of which can be easily solved in advance. And of course, the extreme simplification of the characters, each of which can be described literally in a few words, and this will be a complete characteristic of his personal qualities. Heroes here are needed exclusively for the development of the plot, and it is boring and delusions.
At the same time, the visual series is shot very, very well, well-chosen costumes and scenery work well for immersion in the setting. Dynamic and rather tough battles on swords, cause genuine interest, it is a pity that the style of fencing does not fit the described era. So the creators had both the desire and the ability to make a quality product.
In order to become a good historical series The Fall of the Order lacks credibility, and for fantasy it is too banal and boring.
If you’re just going to watch The Fall of the Order, stop for a moment and ask yourself a few questions.
Are you worried about historical inaccuracies in movies? If juggling dates, events, weapons, etc. annoys you, watching this series is better postponed. Yes, Pope Boniface VIII and Queen Juanna, Princess Isabella a couple of years older, Guillaume de Nogaret has not yet received a knighthood, and Philip IV is torn between an alliance with England or Catalonia - a kingdom that never existed. It is worth noting, however, that such liberties (to which the creators went absolutely consciously) are quite justified plot.
Are you expecting spectacular battles? Take a look at the title of the series and the year it takes place. The Templars, of course, fight, this begins and ends the season, but really spectacular can only be called the final battle. After all, the Templars scattered throughout Europe, and there is no one to fight with.
Do you like comparing one series to another? "The Fall of the Order" did itself a disservice by mentioning "Game of Thrones" in its promo, and "The Vikings," airing on the same channel, set the bar high for expectations. If you like to compare, it’s best to just review Game of Thrones, Vikings, and other movies and TV shows that come to your mind. The comparison is generally useless, it is, after all, a completely different, new series.
If you are willing to obey the motto “Leave the nitpicks, everyone who enters here” and not dig too deep, then “The Fall of the Order” may well please you. Another thing: the first couple of episodes may seem boring, but then the series begins to intrigue more and more, the middle of the season and is completely excellent and keeps in suspense.
Undoubtedly, the line of the Templars themselves now and then sags, and the play of the actors can sometimes seem clumsy. As the critic of the Hollywood Reporter wrote, “most knights are a series of bearded Britons with some one characteristic,” and, in fact, of all the Paris Templars, only three are properly shown – the main character Landry (Tom Cullen) and his closest associates Tancred and Gawain (Simon Merrells and Padrake Delaney).
Landry seems to have been prescribing a recent graduate of some drama courses, which insist that the protagonist must be ambiguous and with internal conflict - and, of course, he must doubt and suffer. With the volume of drama and ambiguity of Landry, the creators clearly overdid, and in the end he turned out to be one of the most annoying main characters. Tancred is a typical True Friend of the protagonist, who will help, support and not condemn, no matter what the main character does. At least it is easier to sympathize with him, but the character would be more interesting if he was given more attention. The same goes for Gawain – he is perhaps the most curious of the three, a hero who is also ambiguous, but without too much (perhaps because he wasn’t given much time).
Another thing is the line of the royal court (or, if you include the Pope, just off-the-scenes). Actors play here, films with which you need to watch exclusively with subtitles, because no actor of dubbing, and even more so voiceovers, can convey, for example, the power and coldness that slip even in the affectionate speeches of Philip (Ed Stoppard), or the melodiousness and insidiousness, and sometimes the irony with which de Nogaret (Julian Ovenden) speaks. Perhaps, if the series had been called somehow differently and focused on just this line, it would have turned out to be much better, because this is where the most interesting and multifaceted characters are shown, which, again, were not fully disclosed, unfortunately (Isabella and Boniface probably suffered the most - they simply forgot about the first at the end, and the second changed too quickly).
It is simply impossible not to mention the game of Ovenden – his cunning de Nogaret was the main engine of the plot and, in fact, the heart of the series. In addition, being the most interesting and profound character, the King's advisor manages to better reveal the other characters with whom he interacts. Ovenden gave de Nogaret a lot of nuances, and watching him and his manipulations is a pleasure.
When these two storylines come into contact or intertwine, the series becomes truly entertaining and addictive. It is worth the narrative to focus on the Templars - and the plot begins to sag, at least in the first series. Then, fortunately, it becomes interesting to watch the knights, when their line ceases to resemble any computer game, where they give a hint in one quest.
Searching for the Grail as a bounce isn’t a bad idea, but it might have been worth cutting it in half because it ended up being one big hit. The more sad that in the season finale, the series sharply turned from this line towards some incomprehensible melodrama, throwing a good part of the characters halfway and never bringing their story to a logical end. In general, you can include all the characters here, except Landry and the Queen, and it turned out that all this, apparently, was started for them.
“The Fall of the Order” stands somewhere between creations like “Da Vinci’s Demons” and more serious historical films. But, in fact, the creators have even managed to convey the atmosphere of the XIV century thanks to wonderful beautiful costumes and scenery – this part, often along with camera work, really pleases.
However, the series is also stuck between genres. And in an attempt to please both action fans and fans of a good drama, The Order Falls risks disappointing both at different times. The series absorbed a little bit of everything, and there are many interesting episodes and characters that are really interesting to follow. So, if you take it easy, you’ll like The Fall of the Order. I want to believe that the second season will be (after all, the potential is great, and then the most interesting should begin), and it will be better and even more interesting.
History TV channel in its new 10-episode project volunteered to tell the story of one of the greatest military monastic orders. We decided to tell about a small segment of the almost 200-year history of the order, which was founded after the first Crusade to the Holy Land. In fact, as the title of the series tells us, the plot will lead us to the end, to the moment when the order is erased from the face of this sinful land. The story of the decline of the Templars is very interesting if you dig deeper, at least to read an article about their history, but this you will do after watching, so that I do not hide the sin, but the scriptwriters did not close this issue, they only showed the rudiments.
The authors took as a basis the search for the Holy Grail, which was lost in the Holy Land after the fall of Acre. About half of the season goes to create intrigue around the bowl, to reveal the motives of the characters, which in the second half flow into a very thoughtful and not devoid of meaning action. But it is because of this that the first part of the series looks a little reluctant. Yes, we have an amazing picture, great costumes and they please us from the first seconds, but it is not enough. Colorful characters in the series do not get even closer to the end, you do not get attached to them, you do not worry about them and without these emotions, any project is actually doomed to failure.
But the second half of the series steers all its disadvantages into advantages. Intrigues are gaining momentum and if you manage to start worrying about the characters, then the intrigue will make your blood boil a little, but no more. After all, a 10-part project is not enough to create a truly colossal tension. Here the last series will definitely not leave anyone indifferent, for the Templars you begin to worry as for your brothers and hope for their victory, despite knowing the history of their order.
If the plot does not please you, you will surely have to taste the battle on swords. They are really fascinating here, not only in staging, but also in scope. With its ferocity and bloody beauty, battles are very similar to Game of Thrones and can compete with it. They are perfect, just perfect.
But the main feature of this series is a trip to medieval Europe. See the atmosphere of France in the late 13th century. Writers will take you to royal lodges and dirty peasant bars. Very good in the series with historical authenticity, for me personally this is a very weighty argument in relation to historical series. Real historical figures are shown and not just shown, they take on the main roles. The series was advised by British historian Dan Jones, who wrote a book about the Templars that I read. Interestingly, the authors play with myths and legends that permeated the Order and the Holy Grail, they competently present this information, thereby not trying to completely copy real events. By the way, the main character is a fictional character and created specifically for the series, but the last Master of the Order Jacques de Mollet will also appear and take an active part.
“The Fall of the Order” is quite a good historical drama, without a mixture of fiction. As it turned out with “Britain”, which is not even close to the quality of the story about the Templars. I really hope for the release of season 2, which will put the plot point.

I have loved everything about knights since childhood. I always look forward to any film on this subject.
And here is the disappointment right from the first episode, or rather from the battle scene. It's not big, it's delicious, but it's graphics. It's awful. For games, the beginning of zero has gone nowhere, but for such a series is not an option. Lack of budget?
And after all, at first everything seemed to go well, not to say that I dipped my head or delayed, but did not give up viewing. But after the 3rd episode, I realized that everything is not okay in the Danish kingdom.
The writers are obviously big fans of Assasin's Creed! No, it's a great game, but why take its shape and plant a central axis of conflict? Especially since all this conspiracy in the series looks sucked out of the finger. The line of behavior of Joan (John) is simply from the realm of fiction. And the triangle with the king and the master is an idea sewn with white threads.
Okay, it's not a documentary, but why bother?
A lot of dialogue, which turns the action into a monotonous gum.
Fighting is quite average and not to say that well staged.
The cast evokes a double feeling, if there are no questions about the male half, except that why De Molle plays a man similar to Marx, then there is trouble with the ladies. Again, for some reason, they chose, to put it mildly, not beauties (for the sake of feminists), who are very overplaying and hyper-emotional.
The worst part is that the Vikings are on the same channel. “Vikings” with a great cast, a story, a drive that they do not lose from season to season!
I noticed that Renner was among the producers. Jeremy, if you've been in charge of key decisions, great advice - don't produce again! Not yours (as well as acting). They say you have a construction business, so do it. Don't go to the movies.

An example of a great idea ruined by a terrible implementation.
What a hype! Pretentious trailers, participation in the project of Jeremy Renner, albeit in the form of a producer, a large budget, and most importantly - an interesting topic. Hopes were great.
But something strange came out. Well, the beginning was cool - a beautifully filmed battle of the Crusaders with the Saracens, everything looks pathetic and large-scale. But as far as the forest goes...
The plot is frankly weak and stupid. Crusaders are represented either by rocked bulls from the cover of Men Health magazine or by grey-bearded sages, but this is only the appearance. The behavior also raises a lot of questions - the knights of the powerful (!!) medieval order are presented as typical come from a fairy tale - walk here and there, help all those in need. Other characters are as stupid as traffic jams, and the motivation leaves much to be desired: “They can run away!!!” shouts a vengeful peasant bursting into a tower with one entrance.
Dialogues are also banal and predictable - drama is absent altogether. The next phrase of the hero can be easily predicted, because the speech of most characters is clichéd. Where there should be tense scenes, there are humorous sketches.
And all these attempts to get into historical context! Yes, even a person far from medieval history will immediately understand that everything here is not too foldable. Of course, you can recreate a historical era, but if you play it wrong, you will get worse than in a cheap fantasy with fictional kings. In fact, "The Fall of the Order" is a vivid example of this.
Other attributes should not even pay attention, because the disadvantages outweigh any advantages of the series.
History is a big mess, and you shouldn’t waste time on this project. It is better to revisit the Vikings.
The field of historical dramas, as it was 5 years ago, is still dominated by an endless epic about a semi-mythical hero named Ragnar Lothbrok and his heritage in the culture of Norman countries. But sooner or later, any story comes to its logical conclusion, because not people, not gods are not eternal and with the passage of hours of life, their traces on the sand of history slowly but surely wash away the waves of time, which means that it is time to launch a new historical franchise in order to continue their fascinating path of knowledge, although the authenticity of everything that happens is questioned. Well, let’s omit the prism of the reliability of what is happening, because the “Vikings” allow themselves a lot of improvisations, and rather focus on the main task of any series, namely the ability to attract the viewer and in this case everything is not so clear. . .
The series “The Fall of the Order” begins with the scene of the siege of Acre and the attempts of valiant knights to save the most famous artifact of all time and peoples of the Holy Grail from the dirty paws & #39; Pagans' but unfortunately the ship with an invaluable relic goes to visit Poseidon, and with it the cup itself. After some time, the story is transferred to medieval France, where the order is now based. The main character of this tape is a Templar named Landry performed by Tom Cullen, who in view of some circumstances (without spoilers) becomes the new Master of the Order and learns that the shrine was not completely lost, which means that the valiant Templars must find it and with all honors return it to ' its rightful place'.
As in all such series, most of the screen time is devoted to court intrigues and conspiracies, but here’s the catch, in “The Fall of the Order” they are all quite faded and predictable, all this we have already seen hundreds, if not thousands of times. Love, revenge, betrayal are as old as the Holy Grail. Yes, the actors are good, perfectly play all the roles, but to God, there is no chemistry between them, in the brotherhood they stand for each other, but old resentments remain, whether it is an unjust wound that ruined all life or a lack of understanding of comrades, but the presentation of these emotions is extremely sluggish and does not chain to the screen at all, something like: “We should take revenge, but laziness...” And of course, the scenes of battles, of course, costumers know their job and perform it one hundred percent, if you look closely, you can even notice how it is difficult for actors to wave their swords in giant chain mail, but God, this CGI in the background, it just kills the whole atmosphere of merciless battles and resembles modern extremely cruel torture. And finally, that it is simply impossible not to notice, namely, this kindness of the Templars, ready to come to the aid of all dishonestly oppressed and oppressed peasants, and about the burned cities, villages, raped women, cut down in the most sophisticated ways & #39; heretics' during the Crusades, as if no words. . .
As a result, we get an absolutely passable series, which you can pay attention to only if you are an ardent fan of historical narratives or just turned it on the background on the History channel. Comparing it with the same “Vikings”, he is inferior in almost everything, but his main problem is the story itself, Ragnar Lothbrok we loved first of all his simplicity and tenacity, which he paved the way from a simple bond to a myth man and the protagonist of the Norman legends.
6 out of 10
Already in the first minutes of viewing, the series loses the right to claim any historical authenticity. “We are protecting the people of Acre, not just Christians. Jews, Saracens, all religions. Well, you know these good crusaders, "defended" not only the Holy Land, but also Christian Byzantium.
Massive battles? You won't see them here. To make it clearer: combat at the level of domestic Viking and Kolovrat.
The main character of the tape not only does not cause empathy, but irritates more and more with each new round of the plot. Especially since his actions cause questions and make us doubt that we have at least a little positive character.
Little things like: queens walking around the city; peasant women looking like girls from the cover of a magazine; sterile cleanliness in the streets; the naivety of the king of France (who in historiography remained one of the most cunning monarchs in Europe); The Pope, who moves without security, can be listed endlessly.
Seeing to kill time, but nothing more.

The film began for me exciting, I confess I waited, I really wanted to see the true and confusing history of the Templars, but...
The story began dynamically, and then... somehow everything died down. Where are the intricacies? Where's the intrigue? One villain who acts almost openly, hiding nothing, primitive and predictable. De Nogaret = Little finger? Don't be ridiculous. The actions of the heroes are not always clear either. He saves his brother’s life and then says he regrets it. Why is he sorry? What caused them to disagree? Nothing is shown, there are no prerequisites for such behavior. They say that we are “brothers” of honor and dignity, and immediately run and break all the established rules so that the feeling of admiration for “brothers” disappears.
The plot seems to be growing, but also in places quickly, without explanation. For example, the death of the master, the transfer of his sword to Percival. The boy brought the sword to the castle of the Templars, as if they solved the secret of the sword, extracted a hint stone ... And then there's the bang and the conclusion: The grail in France. How did they come to this conclusion so quickly? Where did this stone come from? How did it come about, what did it mean? No explanation, just a fact that the viewer has to admit.
The most interesting thing begins.
The hero who looked after a beautiful woman in the crowd. Then they met, and then (this is what I liked) the presentation of this heroine that she is none other than the Queen.
Again, the style of Jamie-Cersay (allegedly) is traced, but these heroes are not that far away, they will never reach them.
The characters are raw, incomprehensible, like trying to get to their motives, but nothing comes out. There is no smooth, sophisticated narrative, only blind imitation and an attempt to achieve the greatness of Game of Thrones. It was such a loud request, and everything was so rotten...
And the interesting part. I will dispute what they say about historical truth.
Has anyone checked anything?
If in Game of Thrones it is difficult to get to the historically reliable facts because it is the idea of the author, in this film it is very easy to do, because our history is not able to rewrite. Especially notable facts.
I just compare the facts to see how much we are being misled.
The film begins in the Holy Land in 1291. Then... we move to France for 15 years ahead.
The year is 1306, am I right? And it seems that this is summer, not spring or autumn, because the weather indicates this.
This is where the fun begins.
Let's start with the Queen.
Jeanne I de Navarre, Spanish Juana I de Navarra, 14 January 1273, Bar-sur-Seine, Aux, Champagne – 4 April 1305, Vincennes, France
Jeanne died in 1305!!! And after her death, the king never married again!!
It's RAZ.
Next...
Boniface VIII (Latin Bonifatius PP. VIII), in the world - Benedetto Caetani (Italian Benedetto Caetani; c. 1235 - 11 October 1303) - Pope from 24 December 1294 to 11 October 1303.
In the year in which the main events of the film unfold in 1306 (the year before the beginning of the fall of the Order of the Templars), Boniface was not Pope. After him, Pope Benedict XI was Pope from October 22, 1303 to July 7, 1304, and then was the famous Pope Clement V, who declared the order outlawed. And he ruled from June 5, 1305 to April 20, 1314.
That is, in the stated year in the film should rule Clement V, it is obvious!!
It's two...
I will not dig further, for this is more than enough to shake my desire to see this masterpiece. But I will look out of curiosity to continue to observe what new "facts" are trying to impose on the ignorant viewer.
I liked the presence of Persifal (Parcephalus), which Eschenbach and Chrétien de Troyes wrote about, the only one who saw the Grail, which was said to be not a cup, but a stone.
Irga of Thrones is a long way off. What is one Cersei worth? I love her. However, in the last season, she gave up her positions a lot. But it's not about her.
I will continue to follow such a controversial series. I hope they will not spoil the fictitious facts and excessive imitation of the IP completely.
The new series "Knightfall" from the television channel History is dedicated to the time period of medieval history of Europe, when a religious knightly order of Templars or Templars, as they are also called, was forced out of the Holy Land and was forced to settle in France. It is well known that a few years after the Templars left the Holy Land, King Philip IV of France set up a persecution against them, as a result of which the Templar Order ceased to exist.
Many historians agree that with the destruction of the Knights Templar Order, the entire knight movement and the Crusades fell into decline. The name of the series “Knightfall” was translated into Russian as “The Fall of the Order”, which, in general, corresponds to the series in meaning, but still the name should be translated into Russian as “The Fall of the Knights”, which would more correspond to both the name of the series and the meaning of the events taking place in it.
The first episode of the first season showed a very good potential of the series. The series does not let you get bored from the beginning to the end. There's a lot of dynamics in the series. The events quickly replace each other, and each of them is quite well written by the scriptwriters. The dialogue in the series doesn’t look silly or meager. In general, the plot of the series is of interest. There is a reserve for further interesting development of the story, which will be saturated with politics, palace intrigues, love adventures and bloody battles with the effect of slowing down.
However, if in the series you expect to see the Templars as weary warriors, disappointed in God and their faith after retreating from the Holy Land, then you will not succeed. In this series, faith in God is unshakable. Knights Templar unconditionally honor their god and aspire to all his shrines and symbols. For some it will not be a minus, but for me such a fanatical devotion to God, shown by the Templars, is more a minus than a plus.
In the series there are colorful scenery and interesting costumes in which the characters flaunt. One part of the scenery is of natural origin, the other part of the scenery is made in the form of computer graphics. Filming on the real streets of a European city of the medieval period is combined with the painted walls of an ancient fortress, destroyed by the exact hit of shells fired from trebuchets. Computer graphics in the series, unfortunately, not the best quality. It can be easily detected on the screen, which distracts attention and, in general, worsens the impression of what you see. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of the series.
Selection of actors pleases the eye. Men and women as a selection of handsome and beautiful, which is pleasant to look at. The characters they play are also very large and bright personalities. Watching their relationships and love lines is a great pleasure. Acting doesn't upset you either. In each created by the actors of the character believe, and do not feel rejection of this or that character.
In general, the series “Knightfall” is a very promising and promising project, which has many advantages and very few disadvantages. This series can appeal to lovers of history, medieval themes and bloody battles, and can also cause interest among fans of politics, intrigue, conspiracies, romantic and love relationships at the royal courts and not only.
8 out of 10
The series begins with a massive battle for the Grail in Jerusalem. A massive battle worthy of the battle of the bastards in Game of Thrones. A very unusual decision to show the faces of knights behind helmets, it is like in "Iron Man" when you show Stark's face hidden under a mask. This decision makes it clear who is who on the battlefield and gives some drama to the fight.
Further, we are transported to medieval France, where a certain conspiracy is brewing among the entourage of the monarch.
The beauty of the series is that we are given unknown actors, because of this, your impressions of the game are not biased, you begin to follow the actions, try to find out who the main character of the story is. The picture of the series is also very realistic. Costumes, castles, temples are all very realistic and look impressive.
The action is also very dynamic, already with the first series we are immersed in a certain action with battles, plots and murders, and not as mundanely dissolve the first series showing us at first the melodramatic attitude of the characters and only towards the end of the season any large-scale action.
They say that the film adaptations of games are doomed to failure. As experience shows, history sometimes too.
What was written before the series came out? A worthy replacement for Game of Thrones? A new, incredible series? Scandals, intrigues, investigations? Haha.
A lot of noise for nothing. Come on, Game of Thrones wasn't around. And it is not even the absence of dragons and white walkers. Rather, the main plus of the series is historical authenticity, but, Gods, it is conveyed so boring that even in history lessons it was more fun. Well, yes, we see bloody, brutal battles, historical figures slip, lovers of romance and lovelines will not stay away either, even according to the creators, at the end we are not waiting for a happy-end. But in the end, what? A mixture of Borgia and Rome, maybe even Spartacus, although I did not really want to attribute such a fantastic series here.
Honestly, to watch the first series turned out to be torture for me, the second failed only to the middle. I won't even turn on the third.
