TV series about the fate of the Ukrainian woman The 4-episode mini-series Katerina is a melodrama shown on the 1+1 channel. The channel was selected based on the target audience - middle-aged and older women.
The younger part of the audience will be attracted by the cinderella-like story of a rural girl who fell in love with the actor and went to the capital to conquer the acting Olympus.
The older part of the audience will be seduced by the married and acting duo of the good old Natalia Sumy and Anatoly Khostikoev as the parents of the main character, as well as the brightly outlined theme of traditions, return to roots and loyalty to their land, a moralizing and instructive aspect.
The series also appeals to men, primarily with the military theme and, among others, the theme of real and fake friends - those who can drag to the bottom. However, in the plot, male themes are not in the foreground, mainly it is about the female fate.
The plot is based on the story of Cinderella, several love triangles and the theme of “fathers and children”; there is nothing super-original about it. However, there is also its own highlight (link to the plot of the poem of the same name by Shevchenko), although this localizes this mini-series, making it not so clear to a foreign viewer.
In the plot, unfortunately, a lot is far-fetched: in several moments, the characters act one way or another only because “it is necessary according to the plot”, another obvious reason is not visible either in their characters or in their motivations. In my opinion, one should not rely too much on the audience’s ability to suppress distrust.
Also, the series lacks emotional diversity, most scenes on about one melancholy note, because for the viewer to experience emotional animation and catharsis, the creators of the series needed to draw the culminating situation by the ears; I would do without it.
In artistic terms, the series is quite successful, especially I want to praise the design of costumes and interiors. In general, you can watch it.
