2 years after the release, I finally watched the final Geass Code. After watching, mixed feelings. On the one hand, I am angry and annoyed. Season 2 was a perfectly and logically complete story about a guy who wanted to change the world and changed it, at the cost of monstrous sacrifices. That's why anime was a masterpiece for me, the No.1 on my personal list. For each progress in the plot, for each step to his power and dream, the hero paid everything he had, up to his own life and good name. Therefore, this compilation of 2 films (repeating season 1-2 and changing some details) and a third film that continues the plot, devalue everything that I loved in Giass.
On the other hand, as a fan, I’m glad they continued to develop the world and lora because there were a lot of questions after watching Season 1-2, some of which were satisfied with the manga, but some were left unanswered.
In short, the film is 5/10, purely a game of fan nostalgia, because the plot is frankly weak (the arch with the revival of Lelouch is not bad, but the general arch (pardon the expression) of a piece of fecal mass is not worth it and has a bunch of ENT blunders, if you touch the 1-2 seasons), fur fights are few, Brainstorms are few, but Easter eggs for fans (any local memes from 1-2 seasons) the sea, empty conversations about nothing - the sea, fan service - in abundance (not the fan service that with boobs - no heroes in general, but the old ones, there are not the flocks, but the flocks, but the old ones, the flocks, but the flocks, but the flocks in general, but the flocks, but the flocks, but the flocks, but the old ones, the flocks, the flocks, in general, the flocks, the flocks, but the flocks. I hear it's Season 3, the continuation of the story. For me, the Geass Code only exists in season 1-2. Everything else is a franchise out of which money is milked, as it was with Star Wars, Naruto and many, many others.
Welcome. Preface. I'm a "bad" code geass fan, although I'm not into anime. Attention! There are a lot of words in the text about fans, for fans, because the movie is for fans, based on fan fiction.
Minuses.
Duplicate.
Some voices don't fit the characters. There is also over-experiencing and unemotionality. Sitsu, Vitsu, Elzu and other distorted names are present. Cuba77 Where are you when you are needed?
Plot.
It's sucked out of a finger. It's even me, with my clouded Geass mind, I understand. So we had to introduce an unknown country, which is not clear where it came from. If she is famous for her soldiers, it is very strange that in the original series (hereinafter referred to as OS) there is no word about the country or wars. Although there is a logic in their actions. The ending seems clear and complete, but left room for maneuver. They still have season 3 to shoot (I hold all my fingers with crosses so that they shoot normally, and did not stretch the film for the whole season. the title of the third season is the same as the film).
P.S. Later, watched that the film takes place a year after the end of the second season, and season 3, as usual, will begin 2 years after the end of season 2. So there is hope.
Music.
The new music isn't good. Especially at the end.
Add a new one.
A lot of nonsense. Imbalanced and delusional geass appeared. Roland’s ability to stop people’s time, not the world’s. And in general, any Geass that is (which was shown in the OS), works only on living organisms. Unexplainedly, the geass tags began to multiply. Like in the series, the label gives immortality (about it later), but Geass Shamny works through killing it, although the idea should be immortal. The label at Lelouch appeared simply with nothing. It was supposedly passed on by genes, which is nonsense. Since the mark was almost all the time with ViVi (so he has the body of a child) and it is unlikely that the Emperor took it to “chase” when he decided to conceive Lelusha (and Nanali by the way). Immortality is a complete mess. When I first heard about how immortality works, I was rusting at the voice for 3 minutes. There are no Matyuks, but there are murders and boobs. The latter were needed as a dog 5 legs.
References.
As a fan, they came in. I got high when Lelouch used the signal. But there are too many. Many references from the OS were used in the 2-hour film, and not all of them are used correctly. When Cecile brings Lloyd a "Die Lloyd" cocktail. Mix orange liqueur, devil's breath, starch. Shake it. Smell with coriander to taste, then it leads to nothing. Just "Ha ha ha, Lloyd's been eating shit!" The OS made sense. Cecil tried to wean herself off taking someone else’s food. And it was both funny and logical. The creators wanted to show that they remember about the OS, but overdid it, and it looks like just a fan service.
Astrology has declared a week of resurrections!
So Lelouch is not the only one. I know I wanted to please the fans, but it’s not explained! Apparently, "crazy from checkpoint" or there is a Geass that resurrects the dead.
"Others Around"
Some relationships between the characters have changed, apparently for the sake of fans.
Plus
My ideas
I am very happy that the series is moving forward, at least a little. New weapons, technologies and so on have been invented. Not badly remade (visually) the world of Xi. That's it. There is nothing mega interesting I can highlight. There is little new (good), only improvement.
Drawing.
It is pleasant and very similar to the original, although it has acquired details. The only BUT is 3D graphics. It stands out too much.
Music.
Used music from the OS is beautiful in itself, but here it causes nostalgia.
Style of OS.
Scenes, angles, techniques from the OS are used correctly and do not cause disgust.
Relevant questions
Should I continue?
Sure! Give me two! Against the background of the incomprehensible story about Akito, everything is good here.
Why was the film made and announced season 3, because season 2 logically ended the story?
Why not? And seriously, I think that having been burned on the Apostate Akito, who was very far away from the Lelouch story and could not really show anything, the creators went back to their origins. The movie is about watching people react. Because why watch the Apostate for a cameo of Lelouch when you can look at Lelouch himself?
Season 3, what's next?
You'll see. If there is season 4 and beyond, the main thing is that the quality does not fall. Lore is quite large and, if desired, you can shoot more than one season. The main thing is not to turn out Marvel, Star Wars and other franchises for sucking money.
Result
If you watched the first two seasons and enjoyed it, this movie is for you. I do not recommend watching the film separately, as it is for fans and those who are “in the subject”. Movies (except for this) can be boiled. I wrote more about the disadvantages, because you will find the pluses without me.
I'm a fan of this anime, and a few years after this movie came out, I decided to watch it all over again. I really liked him! It is up to you to watch or not, but before viewing it is necessary to review everything that has already been released.
Here we go.
1. Why did Lelouch leave with S.S.?
He became immortal and truly the closest he was. In the world, there's no more room for him. If he had returned, the requiem would have been meaningless.
2. What's after the credits?
It's simple. They showed us what they were doing and I think it makes sense. Good ending. He is doing everything to keep his new world alive.
3. It was a good ending, why continue?
The Japanese have an end if the author stops writing (few people will close their project only because of a beautiful ending when money flows from him). I do not think that such a beautiful creation would be so easily ended.
Of course, everything ended beautifully in season 2, but was it good to know that this devil is alive? I think so! The legend is alive and will live, now forever. And if the second season ended so simply, there would still be the same questions. And now, the author showed us 'final' the end and answered the questions.
The rest of the questions about the unreachable scenes, ' sluggish' heroes and the genius of Lelouch, are minuses of such a word as 'film'. It will not be possible to accommodate everything, so the viewer needs to chew. You won't get chewed in your mouth. It seems to me that everything is clearer than that.
About the bad side. Why were they resurrected? 'Perhaps this is the only reason why he was resurrected: they decided to let him go not on a tragic note, but on a happy one, showing himself from the best sides, since in the film he did not make a single "villain" action, showing him as a positive hero.' What nonsense? He wasn't a villain in the beginning! He did everything in pursuit of good, killing, taking on sins and deceiving others to remain evil. In the film, he was the same Zero, just momentarily confused. He has always had a noble purpose and understands that he has to pay for everything. There is no doubt that he was just in front.
It's a classic anime action movie. Everyone's shooting someone. Everyone calls for hyas, and there's no point. Yeah, there's a mysterious girl with green hair in the cartoon. Director Goro Taniguchi made an action cartoon, which in style came from the 1990s. I did not like the cartoon because of the mix of main characters. In the cartoon there are robots called “nightmares”. The cartoon shows the British Empire, which turned into a Federation.
Lelouch is the offspring of the imperial family. Lelouch, hyas, green-haired girl - it's all a mix for an anime action movie that came from the 1990s. I didn't like the cartoon because the emphasis is on shooting, not the anime philosophy. I got a bit of nonsense in my head because I didn’t watch the previous parts. But the cartoon sucks. Everyone's yelling and shooting. I understood that “Lelus is the offspring of the imperial family.”
Taniguchi’s idea is to make a project similar to the anime of the 1990s. It's too boring. No anime philosophy, one shooting. The anime dubbing is great, but the project sucks. There is a lack of philosophy and music (something from Miyazaki).
The cartoon is very monotonous. Composer Kotaro Nakagawa coped with the work on 2 with a minus. There's no music in the cartoon. The project sucks. There is no intrigue in the cartoon, there is only shooting.
5 out of 10
Code Gias: Lelouch Risen - and in the title immediately spoiler!
Meanwhile, about a decade ago, we remember how Code Geas: Rebel Lelouch ended, and how much controversy it caused, and even a fake ending on YouTube was distributed. But this is for those who remember who are in the subject, so to speak. First of all, this film is made for fans, it is a continuation, there is no disclosure of heroes in it, we should cry at the sight of slightly grown-up familiar heroes and, of course, admire all the pathos of Lelouch! The film is a continuation of the compilation films, and not the main two-season series, this is not for nothing, several points have changed, so it is worth paying attention to this.
Drawing - at the level, ending - above all praise, opening - as average. There is nothing particularly new in the film, but it comes out on nostalgia, and it was worth waiting 10 years! I hope that after the rental, they will make a series of at least 16 episodes to reveal the whole plot and indicate the drama.
P.S.S.S. once said that someone who has hyas is doomed to be alone, but with Lelouch things turned out differently. We loved him, and he came back.
The film left a pleasant aftertaste, especially when you watched it last time in the early 10’s and asked questions like: “Lelush is alive or not.”
Two moments were tense, first unnaturally low voice of the main character (dubbing), which did not correlate with his image and previous “pirate” voiceovers. It seemed that Bambi was overfed with testosterone.
Well, the second point, often the plot exploited fan favorite themes, such as the relationship between Lelouch and Suzaku, and other necessities, which was just fun to watch.
In general, it seemed that the writers reread most of the fanfictions over the past 10 years and tried to make a compilation of fan expectations.
In my opinion, they succeeded. Although there were obvious script holes, with the appearance of unexpectedly resurrected characters who died in the series.
It’s good to know that such anime classics as The Giass Code have received a continuation, which may result in the release of the new season, it is not yet clear.
In my opinion, the film will go to Tru-fans familiar with the series Code Giass. A pity, because the drawing and script are quite original and interesting.
The denouement of the second season and the last feature-length film did not leave room for an appropriate continuation: all the storylines ended on a high note, and Lelouch, for someone, redeemed everything he did, for someone, suffered a deserved punishment. However, Lelus Risen marked his return. To the question: “Why?” the cartoon does not give a direct answer.
There are no questions about the logical side of the resurrection, but artistic validity is almost completely absent: Lelouch acts as the only force that in this situation is able to turn the tide in its favor. Perhaps this is the only reason why he was resurrected: they decided to let him go not on a tragic note, but on a happy note, showing himself from the best sides, since in the film he did not make a single “evil” action, showing him as a positive hero. That is, the story told ends not so much the story of the Code Gias as the story of Lelusch in particular, translating it into a new quality.
In this case, this is appropriate, since the finale did not cross out the denouement of the second season and the second feature film, leaving the situation of the world as it was before the third part, with an insignificant, but for someone pleasant, for someone unpleasant change.
Speaking of past full-length cartoons. “Lelus Risen” is a continuation of the animated remakes, where the content of part of the events was rewritten, but here it is little felt, literally in two places and does not affect the perception much.
And there is something to see besides Lelouch. Fortunately, in other aspects, the cartoon remained the spirit of the series and with all its strength exhibits and savors the accumulated qualities in new forms: many new, spectacular, ambiguous characters, for example, sister and brother of the kingdom, clever plans that use strategy and tactics in synthesis with Geas, rare emotional scenes whose denouements show the relationship of characters and decide the outcome of many scenes, pathos monologues with mockery, fast, spectacular battles of furs, toughness and cruelty of approaches and of course, completely inappropriate pornography!
The classic cocktail of the series was created without innovations, but since its power has repeatedly justified itself, it was not necessary, and what is looks and sounds without complaints, causing and leaving a lot of impressions, forcing not to regret the allocated money and time.
The only drawback is the inability to remember new names and names, due to their large number and small mention.
In fact, the film’s only stumbling block is its very existence. But since the content is never fatal, and the spectacle is worthy, you should not be afraid of viewing. Moreover, this film is designed for those who were saddened by the fate of Lelouch, and for the rest of the people in the topic – once again immerse themselves in an interesting and in something original world with their favorite characters. Even if this character is Lelouche LaPeruge.
If you have watched the series or at least a compilation before, go to the cinema without hesitation. This is not a misunderstanding of the level of apostate Akito, Lelouch is indeed resurrected.
Graphics: as high as possible while maintaining the visual style of the series.
Music: the initial and final compositions are not bad, in general the music is appropriate, but almost not noticeable.
Characters: The action does not take place immediately after season 2 (or 3 films), but after some tangible time. All the characters have changed a little, and that’s a plus.
Opponents: the adversaries are new and there were no prerequisites for them before. Alas. But their appearance is quite logically justified in the film itself.
The plot: the plot does not reach the second season. Alas. First of all, there is a lack of scope and elements of preparation: the whole film is devoted to local conflicts. But it is consistent, the characters have motives and desires.
In general: this is the Giass Code, but there are minor roughnesses. Perhaps the events are not canonical (I don’t know if this is the case), but this does not prevent you from having fun watching.
I liked the voice, you can get used to Lelouch’s rather unexpected voice. What is interesting, whether the Russian version made a lipsinc (at least in the initial scenes, no further looking), or the translation tried to get into the animation. Anyway, my respects to the localizer. And finally, there's a little post-credits scene in the movie.
The review does not contain spoilers for the film.
Also, I do not recommend this film to people who have not watched the series or at least recap films (they are a new canon with a revised *IMHO for the worse* plot, so it is more correct to view them).
A couple of words about my opinion of the universe.
I got to know the universe a long time ago as a two-season anime series, which I really liked. And it ended, in my opinion, correctly and did not need continuation.
Since this film is a continuation of full-length films (as mentioned above, which are a true canon), the day before going to the cinema I watched all 3 films.
Full-length films have already instilled a bit of distrust in comparison to the series. From the outset, I knew that movies are just a condensed series. At the same time, it is difficult to watch them without knowing the main plot, since so many things were cut to turn 50 episodes of 24 minutes (20 hours) into 3 films of 2 hours (6 hours).
What about the movie itself? I didn't like him. Let's start small, but what made me happy.
-Sound and Music:
The soundtrack is level. Completely completes the picture, but nothing supernatural.
-Animation:
Okay, but there's a nitpicking (not a strong minus). Anime uses a lot of computer graphics, which is shown in the foreground. Graphics are high-quality, smooth, but poorly hidden and in places too striking, and as Gigguk rightly said:
"Good computer graphics in anime are computer graphics that are not visible."
-Localization:
It's pretty good here, too. One drawback: some characters (including Lelouch himself) are poorly selected for voices. Perhaps it is a subjective opinion, but I decided to voice it.
The rest of the localization is good: full dubbing, lip-sink and voice selection for adults. It is a pity that the inscriptions decided not to remake / sign with subtitles, but decided to voice each time, but this is a little nagging.
-Plot:
That’s the whole problem with this movie. As stated at the beginning, the plot of the anime series and recap films was completely exhaustive and did not require (or even have) a sequel. But for unknown reasons, this is happening.
As the name implies, Lelouch came to life, or rather, he did not even die, but lost his soul, becoming just a living doll (this is explained in this film). The world lives in peace when people in southeastern countries steal Nannally and Zero (the purpose of the theft is also explained in the film, which I will miss). “Resurrected” Lelouch, whose body for a year was barely wandering around the world with Xi Tsu, and whose soul also disappeared, immediately gives all his strength to save his friends and family. This is how the conflict begins.
What's wrong with the local story?
The very idea of continuing the story. It’s as if Code Geass has become a franchise like Fast and Furious or Alien, after which it will be resurrected until people get tired of it. Accordingly, for each “resurrection” conflicts sucked out of the finger will be invented (like revenge for the son of my mother’s friend, taking over the world for nothing, etc.). And then the conflict, too, in my opinion, just invented out of the blue, because of what the plot seems strained.
*Absolute lack of initiative of the characters. In the film decided to cram absolutely all the characters who survived the previous events. Only their name and appearance remain. The characters almost do not move the plot, being immortal (friends of the hero) cannon fodder. They do nothing but follow Lelouch’s orders. And even when they are shot endlessly, from all sides, they will not budge or even shoot back until Lelouch tells them to do so.
*Drama. More precisely, not a drama, but a soap opera in which the characters cry for and without reason. I'm for good drama, but I'm against expressing love, friendship, hate, fatigue, pity, perseverance and anything through tears.
The genius of Lelouch knows no bounds. How he revealed Giass, the main antagonist of the work, is still a mystery to me. If earlier in the series his genius had at least some explanation (calculation, intelligence, folly of the enemy and knowledge of the terrain), now he stupidly knows.
Now the story and Lelouche began in a new way, and it does not seem to end. There is no specific ending to the film.
As a result, I do not recommend watching this anime film.
Not to those who are familiar with this universe, since it does not develop the plot of the universe, but only gives logical questions, the answers to which are unlikely to give you.
Not to those who are not familiar with the universe, because the world is quite complex and will not be understood by you. If you want to know, see paragraph 1.
