The White Swan I thought a lot about what to write after watching the movie. My review will be positive or negative. The fact is that after watching the film, I wondered, and the writers understood the material that fell into their hands. As for the actress who plays Sonia Henie in this film, Ine Marie Villeman externally fits into the image I remember watching. Serenade of the Solar Valley (1941) But the movie has a lot of drawbacks. And the downside is the script. The plot revolves around our heroine, but not her personal life. In the film, I wanted to see Sonya Henie’s relationship with her husband. She, if anyone does not know, had three husbands: baseball player Dan Topping, Winthrop Gardiner and rich Norwegian shipowner and philanthropist Nils Unstad. She left Unstad in 1956, having already retired. From the book “Queen of Ice, Queen of Shadows” written by her brother Leif, we learn what she really was, and about her vices. We were shown the lust for money, the craving for sex, was just a little episode that, for me, in general, failed to unlock that need. If the film was made in the erotic genre, perhaps the picture received a new breath. Of course, the creators of the picture did not set themselves the task of showing on the screen the intimate life of a man who was called a white swan during his lifetime and everyone watched the first ice show at that time with awe. But before becoming an actress, our heroine was engaged in figure skating, winning titles and as soon as she won them all, she decided to completely change her life to appear on the screen not as a skater but as an actress. The film recreates the moment of the main scene from the 1941 film “Sun Valley Serenade”, but the modern viewer is unlikely to say this name about anything. There’s not much to say about this film, and that’s another downside in my opinion. As a viewer, it would be interesting to see how the personal life of the main character was built.
The love line is what's missing in this movie. What's the movie about? This is the case when you want to say that the film is about everything and the same burden is nothing. The script included those moments when the main character was on top and towards the end of the film we watched the fall of the main character. According to the scriptwriters, this fall occurred due to the frequent use of alcohol by our heroine. But they forgot that there was a war at that time. The main characters of that time, as well as the men of our heroine, were left behind. Watching this picture, the modern viewer learns little about the star of the ice show and films of that time. If the writers spent time on the main character's relationship with her husbands, her relationship with the Nazis, they might have a good drama in which we would see all the feelings of the white swan. In the presence of good material, the filmmakers made another boring film. My opinion will be neutral.
