Useful drafts. Useful drafts.
That would be my brief description of this drama. One of the characters in this story is a screenwriter, unable to independently create a high-quality script. It pushes her to steal. Did the writer of this drama subconsciously describe his story? I do not like to be rude, but people are very angry who, instead of creating their own, slightly remake someone else’s.
The thesis of this drama: “Have you seen The Lord of the Sun?”
Like Russian cinema, the Korean film industry needs good actors, so I am loyal when evaluating acting. So the disadvantages:
1. The protagonist. I’m not going to talk about his performance in general, I’m just going to say that he has failed romantic scenes. There is no chemistry, and I think Park Shi Hu is the problem.
2. Logic. In the drama, the ability of the main character is positioned as the ability to implement what she wrote. But is that true? She repeatedly demonstrates this ability, although in the storyline of her friend-writer there are plot holes. I do not want spoilers, so I will not dwell on this in much detail, observe. If it is assumed that the character does not actually have these abilities, and it is all about ghosts, then one day she herself changes the plot without their prompts, but everything happens according to what is written. Or did ghosts help, too? In this case, a high-quality screenwriter is obliged to show and explain this, this is not a situation where the viewer must think it out, there is no place for "intrigue".
3. Motivation by Ra Young (Hwang Seo Hee). Again, no spoilers. So in a nutshell: her motivation to act has no subtext. Just the writer needs her to do this, but to prescribe a full character was not time. Or no skills.
4. Screenplay. I have already described above two important and very noticeable script errors, now we will discuss general issues. The drama Lord of the Sun is one of the gems of my beloved collection. I really like it, even after a lot of other great dramas, which I won’t say, for example, about the drama Heirs. And frankly, the beginning of 'Scariously Beautiful' was promising, but even then I could smell the scent of 'Lord of the Sun'. I was hoping for changes as the plot progressed, but became increasingly troubled with the writers’ inspiration. Most suspiciously, the ghosts of the past of both main characters are played by the same actress (Hwang Seo Hee). I finally lost my doubts about plagiarism when I rechecked it through the cast list.
Bottom line: I didn’t see anything valuable in this drama. I argue that even as a standalone work, this drama suffers from a lot of problems and errors. It's better to watch The Lord of the Sun. Even revisit it if you want to see it again.
Review Summary: Feeling like I watched a draft written by the Lord’s writer, which was eventually discarded. Because the plot is not so interesting, and the characters are not so worked out. There's no main character chemistry. It is better not to watch at all, neither a beginner in the world of dramas, nor an old-timer.
Verdict: "No" from "Yes/Maybe/No."
