I remember the series Novichok somehow began as our film, if we talk about the robbery, only the main characters then had a fate diametrically opposite almost. And so a guy from the United States with a military background (maybe in the service he caught PTSD or just crazy) and imaginary himself on the wire ended up in Finland, where, according to the film, a lot of people disappear every year. And our dude is there. . .
What's Fink doing? Well, there's snow, a lot of snow. There are large areas with a relatively small population, that is, it is easy to lose. Why did the movie send the hero here by accident? Well, the Finns are considered almost the happiest people on our planet. And there's such a wonderful family suddenly doing something wild. There's a contrast. Although you could take any conditionally happy Western country, Australia, for example, where the movie was shot, as I understand it. Or maybe Australia is secretly envious of the Finns, who knows them, these Australians... suddenly they are envious of everything.
There are actually more contrasts in this movie. And it creates, it sets a little creepy entourage. Coziness and idyll family and bloody horror. Love for a beautiful girl and violence against people. Cutting something off and healing in the same place. A desire for peace in a quiet and distant country and horror with violence. Freedom of movement and imprisonment. The desire to fly to Finland and the persistent desire to escape from there at all costs, at least on one leg.
The movie is entertaining, as much as it can take, but short, that is, purely in terms of the main moments and movements ... here one, two and spent time. It's short, simple, but clear.
It is impossible to objectively evaluate such a tape, because “Comedy horrors of the absurd” is a specific genre with its own laws.
To enjoy such films, one must understand and accept local laws and mechanics.
The authors are absolutely aware of the laws of the genre and, apparently, wanted to create something unique, but Malek overdid, as in the proverb “you can not catch one after three rabbits.”
I do not remember a case when mixing more than 2 “chips” gave a decent result.
The authors immediately tried everything. And in classical horrors, and in drama, and in the absurd, and in comedy.
But the problem with such hybrids is that the nature of some genres is banal incompatible.
If you want drama, you have to form a logical arch. And logic is not compatible with classic horror. It is exactly the same direct conflict between classical comedy and absurdity.
As a result, integrity is lost. The plot cornily falls into incoherent fragments.
Just tuned in to the drama, the film begins to “joke”, just tuned in to comedy, the absurd begins, only rebuilt on you – the classic thrash slasher begins.
Summarizing – in the picture, of course, there is an original idea, but the implementation is extremely overdone.
To get acquainted with the genre, there are incomparably more holistic works. Well, for connoisseurs, this is rather a boring set of short films.
A slightly unhealthy head sharp guy was in the wrong place at the time. Twice. During the bank robbery, he was there and shot all the robbers, but the employee of the bank died. After serving time, he is bullied by reporters and recognizers, he decides to dump on the end of the world, in the wilderness. He chooses Finland. But there immediately appears in the clutches of a family of crazy cannibals. The film frankly failed. For a simple reason - the creators decided to play on several glades at once and this ruined everything. It sounds like a ridiculous story. So for a fairy tale, it is too believable and naturalistic, for a comedy it is not at all funny, for a slasher it is too lightweight, for a psychodrama it is too primitive, for a thriller it is too predictable, and for a treshak it is too serious and intricately blinded. We tried to do it everywhere, it didn’t work anywhere. And yes, it's not a Scanditres. This is an absolutely American movie made by Americans for Americans in America. From Finland there is only the name of the country. With equal success, the action could take place in Ireland, Ukraine or New Zealand. In any country that Americans know nothing about. I mean, anything. Hopa! No way. This film was made by Australians, KP says. The kangaroo was a purely American film. It happens. Alas, I tuned in to a cheerful thrash like the Knights of Justice or at least Trips.
Former warrior Rex is released from prison with the desire to start a new life. The place finds the unexpected even for itself – Finland. At the airport, he notices that the ticket for the Helsinki plane is abbreviated as Hel - Hell. And the place is becoming more interesting ... – decides Rex. And turns out to be right. Right at the exit of the airport, he is kidnapped by a family of local maniacs, and he comes to himself bound in their basement ... without one leg. Not even in the middle of the movie.
Hell is a rare case when horror has something to surprise.
Among other things, Rex has a rich inner life – he constantly communicates with himself. At what this image is visualized - that is, literally walks next to each other, communicates, jokes and gives advice:
- (Rex) oh, chuckle ... I don't have a leg ... no leg ...
- (Rex 2) tsss, they'll hear you.
I don't have a leg, it's full. . .
- (Rex 2) I told you, thieeho. Focus! You can’t help but think what to do, focus.
Thus, Rex is very interesting solves the problem of separation of emotional and analytical functions of the brain. His inner self, ignoring the desire to hysteria and panic, helps him focus and think. And sometimes, on the contrary, it helps to scream properly with a mat, while externally maintaining complete silence. Watching this interaction is very interesting.
In artistic terms, the film holds the bar, noticeable work with the picture.
A little tense numerous flashbacks, jumping narrative. In this case, it is also an artistic technique, but it is an amateur.
In general, there was a harmonious mixture of different genres: thrash, horror, comedy and romance. Lovers of funny horror should like it.
It is very pleasant to suddenly discover little-known to the general public films that turn out to be very original and interesting, standing out favorably against the background of AAA blockbusters of Hollywood. Such a project was last year’s Hellfire, combining elements of black comedy, tense thriller and bloody horror.
At the center of the story is an ex-cool guy named Rex (and no, he’s not a commissioner) who, after spending eight years behind bars, decides to start a life from scratch. For this clean slate, Rex leaves his native States and goes to Finland, choosing the country at random. However, the guy is not waiting for the most enviable fate - barely stepping to a new land for himself, Rex finds himself in the basement of a strange family of either cannibals or just psychopaths. From this interesting situation, our hero will have to get out.
“Hell’s Hell” film is very chamber, most of the story unfolds in one house, in fact even in one basement, but the picture turned out to be surprisingly rich. Plus, a great atmosphere, a certain intrigue and, of course, the main character plays on hand.
It is worth saying that Rex has one remarkable feature - he literally communicates with his inner voice, while seeing it as himself, only cooler. Of course, it is necessary to praise the lead actor - Ben O'Toole a significant part of the timekeeping actually communicates with himself, and it is sometimes two different people. While the real Rex feels sorry for himself and tries to figure out how he came to life, his inner self at the same time rushes in rage, starting to yell at the real Rex. Here's a bipolar girl, very well beaten.
At the same time, Hell’s Hell can be praised for its makeup and practical effects – everything looks very decent; the wounds, severed limbs and murders are shown very naturalistically, which adds to the film’s glasses as a horror.
As a black comedy, Hell’s Hell also works perfectly, while humor is not limited to the bipolar character alone, although many funny scenes are built on this element of the narrative. Among the levers of comedy, one can also highlight Rex's relationship with Alia - the only normal member of a crazy family who sees her savior and a knight on a white horse as a prisoner. And in general, if you look at the general mood of the film, then Hellfire somehow manages to maintain a fairly frivolous tone, despite everything that happens.
Verdict: “Hell’s Hell” is one of those “not expected” projects that deserves much more popularity and significant public recognition. An unambiguous recommendation for everyone who loves original, bold projects with a slight thrash.
If you are a beginner who is not well versed in the cinematic map of the world, then I will tell you how remarkable Australia is. One of the key directions of cinema, in which many novice directors work here, is a low-budget, but well-tailored thrash with unknown actors and stingy special effects. Why even watch that? As a rule, these tapes are very good in terms of plot, dialogue and humor. Timekeeping is never delayed (more than an hour and a half budget will not allow), often there are original chips and funny moments. Remember the scene where you saw the erotic washing of a wound after an amputation? Not a lot of these paintings, yeah. Although the funniest thing in the case of this film is, perhaps, one of the translation options: “In my mouth feet” – the author of the localization clearly watched the movie to the end!
Grierson doesn’t specialize in a particular genre, but he has a clear interest in action movies and survival horror. Why should his work be characterized more positively than negatively? First of all, caste seems pretty good. The main character performed by Ben O’Toole is a kind of John Wick on minimal films: the same harsh male beauty, a mysterious past, impressive melee skills, and a bonus slight mental deviation in the form of an imaginary double. As a partner, he got Meg Fraser, a young talent, a charming blonde, who is easily confused with Cameron Diaz in her best years. Well, all the other members of the crazy family are beautiful, especially the twin brothers and mother.
The plot of the film is so short that the missing fragments of the story are periodically given in the form of flashbacks. They somewhat spoil the dynamics of the film, and it is difficult to call them especially necessary - well, they reveal some personality traits of the main character and give an overcompressed backstory of the Finnish maniac family, but if you want to do without them it would not be difficult. By the way, about Finland – it seems that the screenwriter chose the country in the same way as the main character, with the help of a miraculous random. It could be any country, as apart from the composition of Ievan Polkka, there are no references to Finnish culture, and houses in the wilderness are an international phenomenon. Perhaps in Australia children are told horror stories about Finland, and there this small country is associated not only with the Winter War and phantasmagoric alcotrips in St. Petersburg?
The last fifteen minutes are the most spectacular, since everything was left for the final, but everything that happens before, can not be called protracted and boring. If you are a connoisseur of the genre, then I advise you not to pass by, but to look at the light, but just do not expect a cool visual: the picture is dull, the locations are faded and there are few of them, the murder scenes do not shine with originality (well, except for one). Whether it pays off with an interesting story, let everyone decide for themselves.
Hell's Hell was conceived as a black comedy, but there is nothing funny about it, although the filmmaker himself is quite fun. The closest analogues, which can be compared, are: the series “Bloody riding”, the films “I go to look” and “Hunting”. In the story, the main character Rex falls under the robbery of a bank, standing in a long line to his familiar mistress, an operator. And then Rex opens a “second wind”, thanks to which he endures all the criminals, one by one. But justice is so arranged that instead of a reward, he is imprisoned for the death of one of the hostages, motivated by the fact that his reckless behavior put people’s lives and health in danger. The very process of serving time is not shown to us, instead, the action moves to snowy Finland, where Rex decided to leave, hiding from the annoying paparazzi and from feelings of resentment for everything that happened to him. The action of the film is transferred to the house of a family of Finnish cannibals who have a pretty daughter, played by actress Meg Fraser. Now the main task of the guy is to get out of the house of squirrels alive, and preferably on his own two. By the way, the characters were created quite pleasant, which I personally sympathized with: the main character himself, actor Ben O’Toole, in the manner of speech reminiscent of Johnny Depp, and Meg Fraser in the image of an “angel” daughter. Everything looks easy and entertaining. However, don’t expect any know-how or excesses from the film. Everything is quite simple and predictable, and this is probably its disadvantage.

Dynamic, drive, absolutely not bothered, but at the same time interesting and catching attention, and this is perhaps the most important thing ... do not fool around and get high while watching! Recommended for beer)
'Bloody Hell' or 'What the hell did I just look at?!' are the words that rang through my mind after watching this picture. This is how I want to start my review.
To be honest, only the presence of O'Tula as the lead actor attracted to watch in this film. A good actor in my humble opinion. Yes, as if the Necromancer didn't like anyone, but Ben was pulling it out to the fullest of his abilities.
So to the point.
The first half of the film went unnoticed for me, literally flew in ten minutes, there is nothing interesting in it, because like all such second-rate treshaks there is a long liner to the main action, so in this film it is infinitely boring. Hochma itself only happens after Rex is kidnapped. For the rest of the film, Rex tries unsuccessfully to escape, and it looks so pretty. Again, this story is not like the rest of us, I hope you understand. But I have to admit that the last quarter of the film really dragged me.
Humor is very peculiar and not childish (well, look at the rating). Who does that stop for the present century? Although I honestly confess, from the discussion of Rex and his ' second I' in the genre ' What do we have?' I am so famously torn, minutes 3 probably fought in hysterical convulsions.
But despite all its absurdity and absolute uselessness in the current film industry, the film is actually good. Not as good as 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' of course not. But good among the same monotonous thrashes. For example, I don’t digest ' Very scary movie' at least kill. This film is definitely not left in your head for many years, but to watch it alone, or even better with friends, with popcorn or chips, is the most. I do not consider it mandatory, but recommended.
In recent years, it has become quite fashionable to mix several genres within the framework of horror films and bring a fresh look at this genre from a rather unusual side. It is from these goals that the light saw such tapes as “Get Out”, “I’m Going to Search” and so on. No exception to Alistair Grierson’s Hell.
The plot of this film revolves around the former military Rex. One day, Rex entered the bank, which was soon attacked by robbers and seized weapons, shot all the robbers and in the process killed a bank employee. Rex received 8 years in prison, and when he was released, he found close attention to his person. Some constantly pester him calling him a hero, while others avoid him and consider him a psycho. Wanting to retire from everyone, Rex goes to Finland. But immediately falls into the clutches of a crazy family of cannibals.
Of course, one of the main advantages of this tape is the original idea. We are all used to stories about how the main character of the picture goes to a new place and faces bloodthirsty killers / cannibals / other frequent villains of horror films. However, turning this main character into a retired military man suffering from PTSD and filling it all with an abundance of black humor, the authors of this tape actually launch a chain reaction that represents a fresh approach to the genre. When the victim is suddenly the hunter and the hunters are the victims. The only bad thing is that the story rocks for a long time and with a rather modest timekeeping of 90 minutes of screen time, events develop on the screen very slowly and distractingly. In fact, not realizing half of the available on the hands of the authors of the picture of potential.
The director of this tape, Alistair Grierson, shot the so-called “horror comedy”, the fashion for the creation of which suddenly arose in the 00s and just as unexpectedly came to naught. The very tone of the story seemed to me quite interesting and funny. Especially in the context of the aforementioned black humor, which turns the picture into a funny clowning and mockery of the genre. Even more than very similar in terms of the idea of "I'm going to look." That’s just to withstand the equality and unity of the narrative, the authors of this tape, alas, could not. In this regard, the dynamics are reflected only in the last half hour of screen time and direct action is also concentrated in the last half hours of screen time. When the first hour of the picture suffers catastrophically due to the absence of these very elements on the screen.
Of course, the main gem of this tape is Ben O’Toole, who was a real discovery for me back in Necromancer. O’Toole created an extremely charismatic and interesting character. In fact, playing two completely different personalities of your character on the screen at once and doing it so naturally that you will not be imbued with faith, sympathy and interest in his character is simply impossible. Especially bribing by how convincing he looks both in a comedy role and in the role of a cool guy. The rest of the actors also played quite well and each of them looked very authentic in his image on the screen.

Hell is a rather original and interesting “horror comedy”, which takes a rather common story about an ordinary guy and his confrontation with a group of bloodthirsty cannibals and presents it in a rather unusual and interesting form. The first half of the narrative is strongly stalled and the authors of the tape could not realize the full potential of the story. Nevertheless, it turned out quite bright and hooligan funky film, watching which is not sorry for an hour and a half of his time.
You're not going to get bored. As it often happens in life - just think that you have problems and live badly, immediately you will get such a kick from... fate, God, karma... whatever you call it) that the former life-being will seem like paradise. But our protagonist does not lose the presence of spirit, the blessing of his inner voice is a guy with humor.
Rex (Ben O’Toole) has a rare talent. He's always in the wrong place at the wrong time. First, they rob a bank where Rex comes to chat with his girlfriend who works there. And then it takes ' on a pencil ' a family of cannibals, catching lonely travelers. This is where he would end if our hero were an ordinary man. And he's not just an ex-military man who killed all the robbers in that ill-fated bank with his own hands. This man has learned to live with a split personality. Sometimes he can’t control himself.
'Hell's Hell' immediately dots all the i, not even pretending to be some serious movie. Cinema is replete with brutal bloody scenes, as well as comedic elements that regularly make lips stretch in a masochistic smile: what is the worth of a stopped in development & #39; cannibal' or the dream of an innocent girl about a prince who will kill her parents, brothers and sisters... In fact, the suspense is still there. All those minutes that Rex spends in the basement and calculates how much time he still has before the psychos come down to him, while talking to himself ... not every serious horror is able to keep in suspense.
The cherry on the cake are the main actors - Ben O'Toole and Meg Fraser. The second plays a member of this family, who systematically tried to escape from the location to the "Not There" & #39; in which her relatives lived. But she was brought back every time. Of course, such a life could not but affect her psyche. So we got a beautiful type of heroine, so rare in traditional cinema, but constantly found in Japanese animation - Yander. Such a heroine will stop at nothing to get his beloved.
Before us in a nice crazy movie, skillfully playing templates from horror. ' Hell's Hell' a must-watch for all fans of black comedies and boddy-horror.
The other day I came across a trailer for a movie with a brightly speaking title “Hellfire”. At first it turned out to be another version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but then it became clear that it was not so simple. The trailer promised us harsh irony, a lot of action and jokes without boundaries. Naturally, I wanted to know what will be there in the film itself, if the trailer was so memorable, and without much thought, my friends and I went to the movies, after which I hasten to share with you my thoughts on this simultaneously wild and fun Hell.
First of all, I want to introduce you to the main character of this unusual story - the former warrior Rex, who is trying to build a normal life on a civilian. He even has a girlfriend in mind, which seems to also show him certain sympathy, but then the unexpected happens and all plans of Rex go downhill.
Having witnessed the robbery of the bank, the guy decided to intervene – no matter what, and serious military training is not forgotten, and now he is a hero and... a villain! The fact that during the massacre with the bandits, Rex made a mistake, because of which there was an innocent victim. And then a trial, 8 years in prison and a broken life. What to do in such a situation? Go where no one knows you. But in the case of Rex, this is not the best solution.
To be honest, the introductory part of the film looks quite predictable and at first you may think that nothing more than a light thrash is not worth waiting, but do not rush to draw conclusions. Remember that the trailer promised something unrealistically disruptive and cool, so he did not cheat. When the story is transferred to Finland, the real game begins! Old Rex finds himself in the clutches of a family of local lunatics and, apparently, he should become the main dish at the next dinner. But don’t forget that Rex is not just a former prisoner, but also a tough warrior, so it’s time to take everything that comes your way – knives, pistols, even the same shotguns, and arrange a real hell of hell!
This movie is really uplifting and it won’t be boring, you can believe me here. I especially want to praise our voiceover, which gave the plot a special flavor! I don’t know what the translators did during their work, but they definitely did their best. It was a pleasure to watch Rex's dialogues with himself and that blonde woman from the house of psychopaths. I guarantee it won’t be boring and even more – you may want to watch this movie again. At least I'll get back to Rex and have fun with him in the Finnish outback.
In general, “Hell’s Hell” came out exactly as it should be – disruptive, full of fun and with a bunch of excellent black humor, which enhances the cool Russian dubbing. In short, the film is really creditable and is able to please those who missed the cool ironic slasher with elements of a downhill action movie.

It is difficult to surprise me with all sorts of slashers, thrillers and horror. Every year there are hundreds of films in this direction, and only a few of them are worthy of attention. How now really lacks the good old "Scream" with its hard humor and ridicule of genre canons. Where is the promised sequel to Kill Holiday? He should have been out long ago, but the shooting never started. Honestly, I really miss these films and it was really cool to see Hellfire on the cinema schedule, which reminded me of both Scream and Kill Holiday combined. But there are also special features that deserve attention.
The intro introduces us to a tough guy named Rex (Ben O'Toole), who, on some business, came to the bank, and then the robbery began. Well, he decided that there was no need to wait for special forces and himself shot down almost all the bandits. Well, what is not the new hero of America, a TV star and just a dude who is provided with multi-million dollar advertising contracts? But there is one significant catch: the self-confident Rex did not calculate his strength and in many ways because of him, a bank employee tragically died. In the face of the public, Rex is still a hero of the nation, but the court gave him a long term, which had to be served until the end. And then Rex generally has to flee the States, because every person he meets wants with him, if not a photo, then an autograph. Having spit on the map (yes, exactly spit), Rex accidentally hits the balls in Finland and thinks there to hide from the annoying attention, but comes to even bigger problems.
If the film begins in the style of “Fight” by Michael Mann, where the bank was also robbed and there was a lot of tin, then “Hell” continues already in the style of those “Scream”, “Homic Holidays”, as well as those that joined them “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Collector” and “The Hills Have Eyes”. Rex finds himself in the basement of a house, chained to the ceiling and unable to get out on his own. Of course, you could play some kind of drama or a classic slasher about survival, but director Alistair Grierson went much further.
To begin with, he came up with Rex’s alter ego or doppelganger that sits in his head. If the main Rex is all so poor and miserable, beaten and unable to get out, then his doppelgänger is a cool pepper that lets off funny hamstrings and in general is the brain of the operation. I just wanted to say it, it made my day! I do not know what is in the original, but in the Russian version all this wildest banter over the situation was very pleased.
I want to say a few words about killers. They don't look too creepy. I guess they weren't meant to be. But they're bloody psychopaths, and that's a fact. But when necessary, they know how to hide their motives very carefully and pretend to be normal. The Leatherface family from Texas Chainsaw Massacre has a lot to learn.
As for the severed limbs, shootouts and other action, everything is fine here too. Alistair Grierson didn't limit himself when he made the film. He wanted to show us not only a comedy thriller, but also a quick slasher, which, in his opinion, coped perfectly.
As you can see, the movie turned out to be memorable and in its genre clearly noticeable. “Hellfire” is much more interesting than template slashers of recent times, which means you will be interested in watching it.

You have the right to choose whether you will be funny or scared.
With ex-military Rex happens just an extraordinary incident. One day he just walks into the bank for personal matters, when all of a sudden bandits break into it, intending to rob the institution. Then the man who was in dangerous and tense situations is not lost, but becomes the master of the situation and he manages to neutralize (read: soak) all the villains. But as a result of a fierce firefight, an innocent employee of the bank also dies. Then Rex is found guilty of her death and sent to prison. On the way out, he discovers that the “glory” about him has not died down at all, but on the contrary – everyone only argues about who the man is after all: the hero who inadvertently made a mistake, or the villain who killed a poor girl. The former prisoner himself wants to escape from this troubled life and goes to Finland, where he is kidnapped by a mad family and taken to his forest house. Here Rex is waiting for a real hell and a real test of strength.
It's just something. It’s hard to describe in words what emotion the film evokes, but it’s an incredible movie. On the one hand, this is a psychological thriller that keeps in suspense every minute. On the other hand, this is even a horror story, because in places it becomes not that scary, but even creepy. But on the other hand, it’s a comedy. Crazy comedy with black humor. All scenes of violence seem to be deliberately exaggerated and exaggerated, brought to the point of absurdity. In each line of the characters, this subtle irony and ridicule is felt. In general, it seems that the director and screenwriter just decided to mock the main character. Although the film is only an hour and a half, but there are so many events and actions that like a whole series watched.
I wouldn’t say there are super-familiar faces here, but some of the actors are memorable. For example, Ben O’Toole, who plays the main character, immediately attracts sympathy with his appearance and habits. I really liked how he got into the role. He very naturally played all emotions from bewilderment to disgust. And for the role of family members selected the right actors, I think. Separately, I want to note specialists in special effects, scenery and makeup. The visual of the film is impressive that it is very important to do the action movie, because there are just a bunch of all sorts of bright moments with blood, gunfights and all sorts of tin.
I'm in love with the movie. I personally just love these crazy action comedies that give this genre just a new life. Very qualitatively removed, each element is thought out and worked out. The actors also chicly blended into the atmosphere of cinema and conveyed the character of their heroes. I really recommend watching. For those who love such films, Hellfire will bring a lot of fun. This is a movie from the category of those that you savor and as soon as you finish watching you want to start again.

I’ve always loved comedic horror films that masterfully ridicule the laws of genres. As an example, I can call Killing Holiday, What We Do in the Dark, and Night of Fear. Of course, recently nothing worthwhile in a given direction did not come out, but suddenly I came across a film under the rather catchy title Hell and I wanted to watch it. Now I can share with you my thoughts on what I saw.
Arriving at the bank on his own business, Rex thought the worst thing he would face here would be a queue or boorish attitude of staff. But he hasn't been so wrong in a long time! The thing is that right before Rex’s eyes, masked robbers break into the bank and threaten everyone with violence if someone moves. Waiting for the arrival of special forces is very long, and then Rex decides to take control of everything himself and commits a massacre of bandits, in which a bank employee accidentally dies. In the eyes of the public, Rex, of course, a hero, but the court awards him a prison term that cannot be avoided.
When Rex is released, he decides by chance to go abroad, where no one knows him, and forget about all the nightmares that haunted him at home. Flying straight to Finland, Rex thought there would be no problems, but he was wrong again! A family of psychopaths, captivity, torture and only selective madness – this is how a seemingly calm and safe European country met him.
I was captivated by how funny and resourceful a film was made that would have made a fourth Hostel or any other bloody slasher. No, of course, cruelty in the film is enough, but it is presented in such a way that the audience was fun and it is not difficult to watch the adventures of a guy who, as soon as he untie his hands, will turn into a real deadly weapon. And here are the unrealistically memorable guys from the same family of psychopaths. They're like relatives of some Leatherface or Michael Myers. To be honest, they seriously scared me, but at the same time they laughed at their grotesqueness and inadequacy.
As for the shooting, it is of high quality. The camera work is at a height, and the installation in places resembles the style of Edgar Wright and Guy Ritchie. In general, the film can be called hooligan in a good sense and it will definitely be remembered by its viewer for a long time, because the work turned out to be really enthusiastic and the creators clearly enjoyed the shooting process.
So if you get the chance to watch Hell, don’t turn it down. The movie was really memorable and it is very entertaining. Agree that this is not so common now.
As many times taught us a variety of horror and slashers, going on some long trip, you must always be fully equipped, because in some remote province or country whose cultural customs are something strange, you can easily run into trouble, and then tickets home most likely will not have to book. We were taught something similar in both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Wrong Turn, The Hostel and dozens of other paintings. It would seem, well, what interesting can be expected in the genre, which has already been plowed by directors back and forth, but Alistair Grierson found a rather unusual idea, which was very resourceful implemented in the film Hell.
The plot is led by a former military man named Rex, who once came to the bank and witnessed a robbery. Possessing special skills in the field of neutralization of criminals, Rex snatched a gun that came under his hand and arranged for the attackers a real hell. However, as a result of an unplanned rescue mission, one of the employees of the bank died, and this was the beginning of a great legal challenge for the hero. The court didn't care that Rex saved a lot of people by his actions. No one gave him the right to interfere in the situation and take risky steps, and therefore he received a rather impressive prison term. When he was released, he realized that his life had changed once and for all.
Having become a real celebrity, Rex could not take a step without being approached with conversations or asking for a photo. Realizing that it is impossible to live like this, alien to unnecessary glory, the hero decided to go abroad to start everything from scratch and put his thoughts in order. But the choice of Rex fell on Finland, and this was a big mistake, since almost immediately after the arrival of the guy, a family of local psychopaths took over, which conceived to get either a new “beast”, or a toy for their inadequate sadistic games – in general, this remains to be understood.
On the one hand, you might think that Hell is another typical slasher with a lot of crazy bloody moments, but in fact it is quite a charming thriller with elements of black comedy, which is fun throughout the viewing and at the same time does not forget to heat up the level of suspense. Together with the main character, we find ourselves in a real crazy house, from which it is almost impossible to escape. But it is also impossible to stay in place, and Rex will try to return to civilization, no matter how far he is.
The authors of the film came up with a lot of really memorable jokes, and although many of them are designed for an older audience due to the rigidity of the general theme of the film, this is even better, because at last we were presented with a truly bold film that is not afraid to balance on the edge and demonstrate truly extraordinary, crazy things that can seriously entertain. So Alistair Grierson has done a memorable job and his picture is definitely not lost in its genre.
In the end, I want to say that Hell turned out to be an extraordinary, ironic, funny and cruel spectacle, which once again warns us that in any situation we must always keep our ears open and especially not yawn on the sides when we are far from home, and even where it is not so easy to call for help.

If Rex (Ben O'Toole) knew what it would be like for him to go to Finland, where he was thinking of starting a new life after not the most pleasant events that happened to him in the States, it is unlikely that he would agree to a trip to the country of Suomi. And certainly he would agree to catch the sometimes condemning views in his country, than to get caught by a family of maniacs who kidnap and kill people!
Alistair Grierson’s film is something that fits the description ' crazy and unreal bacchanalia'. I'm sure that if you read the description of the film, which indicates why Rex decided to move to Finland, you will think that this is some kind of game. And you'll be right! So it is - 'Hell's hell' - it is woven of absurdities and crazy, would never have happened in real life situations, which, nevertheless, intertwined in one tangle, which had to unravel Rex.
Of course, what happened was his own fault. Remember how the heroine Kate Beckinsale in 'Intuition' relied on the will of chance, believing that events can not be accidental and if something happened in this way, and not otherwise, then so was fate. Best of all, Rex is pretty much the same, because the events in the bank, and the way he chose Finland and all his further adventures there, can be regarded as an evil grin of fate, which decided to make it clear that Rex often had a choice (as in the case of the last bank robber), but he made decisions that then turned out to be wrong. It is clear that he could not assume that everything would turn out as it turned out, but due to the fact that he constantly turned to the right, it turned out that Rex just walked around the block around and this trip brought him nothing but rubbed calluses in the form of big trouble.
' Hell' should be perceived not as another representative of the genre of slasher, but rather as a banter over this very genre. The film does not hesitate to ridicule the typical clichés of horror films, in a black comedy manner passing through the family of nuts, and about the most frostbitten scumbag, and Rex himself, who is absolutely not like the standard slasher girl-virgin, but also so simply turns out to be round the finger.
' Hell' does not claim to be a serious horror film. He rather amuses himself with his own plot, placing not those priorities that may be typical for horror stories of this kind.
Just because of this, the picture can be considered quite original, although you can not say that someone has not shot anything like this before. As an option - 'Homic Holiday', also pretty hung over the slashers.
And of course, the visit of the protagonist to the country that seems attractive to him, which in fact turns out to be not so hospitable - something similar has already been explored by the first two parts of the Hostel & #39;, well, or & #39; American werewolf in Paris & #39; Like these pictures ' Hell's hell' in a not very good light represents another country, hinting at the fact that in some Western or Eastern European country there are far from the most civilized comrades, who only let go - they pluck a bigger piece from the American onlooker.
Anyway ' Hell' looks pretty good, has strengths (for example, the creative approach of the operator) and can give pleasure to the viewer. Not without flaws, he is not an example of thrash horror, being much better than this type of paintings.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
A young man comes into the bank. And they take him, and for eight years in the camps. They are citizens, the most humane democratic court. God bless America. Well, that's okay, because our hero, a hero in every sense. Preventing a bank robbery, he successfully becomes the embodiment of the American dream for some, and an outcast for others. It's painfully canonical. This is the case.
But, Rex, does not despair, and after his due time, acquired a mental disorder, hatred of others, and an obsession. The idea is simple, to get away from problems, and preferably where the climate and mentality, not stellar-striped. Guided by the conduct received in places of deprivation, he starts in glorious Finland, not yet suspecting the scale of the impending threat in the form of a furry animal from the Finnish territories.
Hot adventures start almost immediately, under cheerful folk motives. Also gave me this flavor of Finland. This is not only the birthplace of my favorite bands, but also a hotbed of quiet killers bound by blood ties. And now our hero fell into this mess, and immediately faced radical violence. And it, thank the filmmakers, is as realistic as possible. So there's enough blood and violence here, somewhere near the Hostel and Eli Roth's love of limbs. Only with a more European pitch, one word dirty and hardcore. The non-stop drive itself does not subside during the entire Finno-American conflict. Instead of seriousness, the most smoothed humor, and a tolerant attitude, and instead of pathos, black humor. Good concept. Plus, offshoots on the theme of a ridiculous attitude to your own life take place. Because the main character and catches, such manifestations of his character make Rex realistic, and near-punk. In short, it turned out to be a good hodgepodge of black humor, comedy, and liters of blood. Eat.
The poster, the trailer, the title of the film, the description for the film promise a blustery bloody thrash, and as a result, the man at the beginning of the film kills robbers during a hostage-taking in a bank, and this scene is repeated with flashbacks, and repeats, and repeats throughout the rest of the film, then the man hangs an hour of the film tied in the basement ... and then 10 minutes before the end you do not wait for the same & #39; hell' because the film successfully deceived you - for the remaining 10 minutes there will be no bloody showdowns with blood, or what will be in Finnish? Very, very short and sluggish ending.
I understand why people mostly liked the film – it was made very decently, the actors are trying, there are a couple of unexpected moments that I will not spoil, jokes are not like a bomb, but again you can see that the writers tried. But hell, guys, an hour and a half of the film, of which an hour and twelve minutes does not happen, absolutely nothing but flashbacks about what was already shown at the beginning - well, what kind of fraud?
Somehow not enough thrashing for thrash, and that only in the last ten minutes of the film mostly. In general, the film is very atmospheric and pleasant, sometimes funny, but after watching it, it also becomes clear that it is also terribly stupid. Little action, a lot of interesting chatter, do not get bored, but in the soul of this film you are unlikely to get caught.
The American came to Finland to hide, and went to hell
In Bloody Hell, a man named Rex witnesses a bank robbery. He could not sit and watch the robbery, so he decided to shoot all the robbers. At the same time accidentally hooked one of the employees of the bank.
Rex was convicted, he made a deal with the investigation, got eight years and served them all. In prison, he was always wondering where to go. Staying in America is dangerous - he was written about a lot in the press and now everyone can recognize him on the street and this will not always lead to friendly conversations.
To choose a place for his new home, Rex spit gum on the map. I went to Finland three times. What kind of country Rex did not know, in his view it was some wilderness of the world, where you can calmly lie down to the bottom for the rest of your life.
When he was released, Rex went to Finland. But instead of a quiet life surrounded by fields, forests and thousands of lakes, he fell into the basement of a strange house. On his way from Helsinki airport, called HEL, he was kidnapped by Finnish psychos.
Rex wakes up and finds himself hanging on a hook, his hands tied. It is not clear what the Finns will do with it. In addition, Rex seems to lack some parts of the body.
"Damn Hell" was directed by Australian Alistair Grierson. The actors here are all local, there are no real Finns, although the Finnish language sounds constantly. The film is a social horror with elements of humor. There are tough scenes in Hell, but they are mixed with funny and even surreal episodes, as Rex meets a girl from a crazy family when he says, “I would shake your hand, but I’m afraid you’ll keep it.”
While Rex is trying to get out of the basement, he constantly communicates with his doppelganger, who lives in his head - it looks funny - the doppelganger constantly cheers Rex when he is too depressed.
Finns, of course, may be offended by the fact that in this film they were shown completely frostbitten, but, in general, Scandinavians are calm about such things and do not mind making fun of themselves. The same "Sunshine", where the action takes place in Sweden, no negative reactions in the Swedes did not cause. Well, they're not offensive guys. Besides, the Finns are only five million, so maybe they will never know about this movie.
If you like black humor, look at it. Don't show the movie to your friend Finn. Look at how much he has a sense of self-irony!
It's about a guy named Rex who just got out of jail. Eight years ago, he prevented a bank robbery and dealt with all the criminals, Aki Steven Seagal, but one of the hostages died, and Rex was convicted of self-will and excessive heroism. Deciding to start from scratch, he goes to Finland, but the news did not clear the karma properly, as he is captured by a family of thugs living in the wilderness. . .
Quite a curious horror with elements of humor from Australian filmmakers. The director successfully managed to mix eerie and cruel moments with jokes that are unlikely to make you choke on laughs, but perfectly dilute the narrative and discharge the atmosphere, making the tape quite easy to watch in the evening after work.
The plot is not a new idea, but unfolds an interesting and sometimes original show, sometimes even discouraging with its surprise and unceremoniousness. The viewer will have to watch, and maybe empathize with, Rex, trying time and again to escape from the kidnappers, but suffering failures. Moreover, the main character is very charismatic, especially when he conducts discussions with his inner voice.
Did you know that Finland is the happiest country in the world? The choice of country in the film clearly reeks of genuine irony.
Moral: If you wake up in the basement, hanging hands under the ceiling, then most likely you were confused with a meat chandelier from the latest collection of some seizure designer.
As a result, a funny horror movie with an interesting concept and an ironic story.
Oh wow! - That's the kind of feeling the movie evokes.
So what we have: the former military finds himself in the bank at the time of the robbery, decides to heroize and save everyone, in the end faces, shall we say, extremely unpleasant consequences. When all the problems have been more or less solved, he goes to Finland (at random, how else?) to get away from all unpleasant memories, but in a peaceful Scandinavian country he finds adventures, and immediately: he is forcibly taken to himself by a crazy Finnish family, trading in extremely dubious affairs.
In general, describing the plot of the film beyond what is shown in the trailer is a bad idea. It would seem that we have a thrashing horror comedy here, but no, as with the recent ' I'm going to search ' which generally has a lot in common with ' Damn Hell', everything is not so simple. The film is surprisingly interesting and fascinating scenario, with a bunch of some chips and bells and whistles, working to engage and entertain the viewer. Let the ears of certain similar films (and all of a sudden - Resident Evil 7 games) stick out almost in half the scenes, the narrative is collected so that you do not find fault, everything is in its place and everything works exactly as it should.
The tense moments are really tense, funny phrases and scenes sometimes go into the skip, without excessive emphasis on them, the action is fervent and whippy (albeit a little), and Ben O’Toole plays a hundred tons of different emotions. And yes, this is a rare case when flashbacks fully justify their existence, they here look more like a kind of snide comment on the current narrative than an attempt to add extra depth.
Of course, it is still absolutely genre cinema, but it is catchy, dynamic and fun, and most importantly - lively.
