Night of the Immortals / Night of the Undead. If you do not read the description, but rely only on a poster with a title, it is unlikely that you will be able to predict the plot of this film. And that's the beauty of it. Though stupid, but original idea with a great mix of genres (comedy, thriller, fiction and a little bit from the detective). This is a comedy first and then everything else. 'Night of the Undead' starts out a little weird, we don't have a rush to chew everything up, but it's not that big of a problem, it gradually leads to the main theme of the film. The only thing that could quickly lead to the essence and a little to animate the film itself, because comedies of this kind just need to be lightweight.
Periodically during the viewing there was an incomprehensible feeling that something was wrong here, and only after it it became clear to me what exactly. If you have experience watching South Korean films, for all their variety, you will notice that most of them have their own specifics. Especially comedy pictures. And “Night of the Immortals” in terms of presentation reminds me more for some reason Chinese comedies of the 80-90s. It was so strange to realize it, but it was these episodes that I liked most about her.
Finally confusing extremely strange ending, giving rise to questions in the mind of the viewer, and then the scene in the final credits, which serves as an absolutely unnecessary “this turn”. This scene explains something, but at the same time devalues the film itself. In other words, the whole point seems to disappear. If the creators wanted to develop the theme in this direction, perhaps it would be worth it to make it part of the plot, and not “pivot” 10 seconds at the end, ruining the whole film.
Despite how silly some actors sometimes look, playing them fits the atmosphere of the film. The trio of the main characters turned out to be charming, but Lee Jong Hyun ("Train to Busan" 1-2), who often looks more balanced, somehow manages to remain in the spotlight and not at all because she is the central character of the picture. Kim Song-o is a true alien, his character often caused irritation, but this probably only benefited the cause.
I have no idea if it was a special version of the film for the world screening or not, but it sounds well-known track Billie Eilish - bad guy, and not once.
From all this could come just a great comedy film, which could even be repeatedly returned, the naked eye sees its considerable potential. It is a pity that the creators, with such a great idea and even with its relatively good implementation, could not do everything at the highest level. "Night of the Undead" is not the smoothest comedy project, besides boring and devalued by its own finale. Of course, there will be those who like the movie, but the finale is likely to spoil the impression of any viewer.
