Christmas sugar What to watch on New Year's Eve? On a special night?
I wanted magic, kindness and at the same time a kind of greatness. I wanted the story to inspire, to take the fantasy somewhere far away, but still did without drama and tears.
And I got Christmas Town. There is a drop of magic, certainly a lot of kindness, but there is no greatness, no swing, no inspiration (although the main intrigue unfolds around the wings, paradoxically). What kind of intrigue are we talking about? You can't call it intrigue. Everything in this story is so transparent, open, undisturbed. You can see in the film echoes of “Eat, Pray, Love”, “Under the Sun of Tuscany” and God knows what else, and the miracle bench with a charming hostess suspiciously resembles “Chocolate”.
The heroine from the first step in an unfamiliar city meets a romantic hero, finds a common language with a completely perfect teenager-orphan, immediately strikes up a close friendship with them, friendship completely undisguised flows into falling in love and awakening of maternal feelings ... and around solid Christmas trees and garlands. What a leaf painting. It's not repulsive. Perhaps I just like the idea of a fairytale town where all people are brothers and where you can find your happiness by working in a simple cafe instead of boring offices. This may be a good movie for hopeless romantics, but only on New Year’s Eve, when we are all a little bit children. But after watching, the soul will ask for something more - the Chronicle of Narnia or Harry Potter. Or Gone with the Wind.
