Lecomte is an old lion of the classical European school, particularly the detective. The movie turned out - in locations and movements ... chamber drama with a very slow rhythm of the picture. Youth will not like this movie, it is designed for viewers. They didn't just see Kenneth Bran's dilogy, they saw Jean Gabin. Lecomte rewrote Simenon's novel, leaving the skeleton in detail, but adding three of their own. Sudden Depardieu looks great here. Many Mhatov pauses, Breath arrest and great sadness in your life. There is a parallel to Gerard’s real life. It's The tragic loss of his son Guillaume 14 years ago. So here, as a human structure, Depardieu's play is unquestionable. Everything is very moving, contemplatively happened. Melancholy (even depression), sadness enveloped me as a spectator. The emotional stare of the great actor...holds his attention to the end. Watch exclusively for Gerard fans Depardieu, since Simenon's novel is pretty shredded and literature does not smell good here. Technical format of the film Everything is very professional, including dialogue, editing, sound. Review written : April 25, 2022 – Olya Grinevskaya (Alenushka)
In the film, we see France in the 1950s. Noir, as you know, flourished in Hollywood cinema just 140-50-ies. The film is not black and white, but is shot in dark colors, showing us the pessimistic, unjust, sinful city, as Maigret sees it. The difference, however, is that suddenly in the victim and the second girl he sees naivety, which awakens in him some fatherly feelings.
Reflections on whether the murdered “fame fatale” when watching the film also arose. Maigret sees her as a child who wanted love and attention, but is she really a naive victim of a rotten society? The denouement of the detective story can be predicted, but perhaps even in the novel by Georges Simenon (not read) the investigation is more aimed at revealing Maigret himself and showing that he is still not a burnt pessimist.
As in classic noir, in this film, the series of events begins with one risky step of the victim.
These are just a number of signs by which we can say that this is a film in the style of noir, which is executed and shot well and “in the canons” of the style. Lovers of noir and neonoir, I think the picture will like me.
It was scary to watch this movie because of Depardieu. The famous actor has already played in such a huge number of films, half of the roles in which to put it mildly strange (sometimes just mocking the maestro) and got out, apparently, only for the sake of money. In this case, the fears were in vain. The film is obviously on a low budget, where the picture and the atmosphere are important. And Depardieu himself with the role of Maigret, such an already aged and immersive, coped well. I won’t say much about the investigation, as in many of Simonon’s detectives (I haven’t read the original source here) it is quite simple. The main role is played by the dialogue of the commissioner with the participants of the action, as he tries to understand them psychologically. These scenes are probably the main beauty of the work of filmmakers. Resume. I looked with interest, but without enthusiasm.
Detective, illusion of self-deception and seduction, in the end happiness in simple little things. Also beautiful mystical scenery. A mysterious investigation into the commissioner’s murder and a question that stretches to the very end of the film – Why? – which everyone will answer after the investigation in the film ends simultaneously.
1950s, France. A girl named Louise Louvier is murdered in cold blood on the street. The killer inflicted several stab wounds. Louise played a little-known actress Clara Antuns, the owner of the original and, in my opinion, typically French appearance. Before death, the viewer is shown her still living half-naked body with an abundance of moles. That’s the first thing that didn’t stop the movie right away. The second is the French actress Jean Labeste, who repeatedly teased Commissioner Maigret and hinted at obscenity.
But Commissioner Maigret (the young Gerard Depardieu) takes his job too seriously, so they failed. Except for trying to solve a murder, of course. Murder, which is understandable almost immediately even to those viewers who at night do not solve crossword puzzles and do not pass computer games of the quest genre without prompts. In fact, I immediately guessed the motives for what happened, and then watched only the slow unravelling of the tangle of criminal history... although no, the commissioner was just doing his job, which led him to a logical conclusion rather quickly.
In the course of the investigation, colleagues threw the missing Maigret ... no, not even fragments of the mosaic, but stupidly led him to the desired trail. At the same time, how they achieved such a high efficiency of operational work in the 50s remains behind the scenes. Well, God knows it, the story is made up from the beginning to the end.
The whole movie the commissioner just walks around and interviews witnesses, there's no action. In the film there is not a single dangerous, chilling blood or taking a moment for the soul. Everything is very simple and old-fashioned. Although the older generation, as a sophisticated viewer knows, can give heat. But Commissioner Maigret is not the case.
A new adaptation on the screen of the legendary detective Maigret. Dark, mysterious, but predictable. The detective begins with a mysterious person who appears in the wrong place at the wrong time to go into the investigation of the crime. The picture beautifully introduces the viewer to the Commissioner performed by Gerard Depardieu. The famous Frenchman has already appeared as a detective in the mystical “View” (2001) from Pitof, so the image of the investigator grew.
Mysterious girl - the viewer is also in the fog, taking up the solution together with the detective. The only difference between the viewer and the character is that we saw the girl still alive, which is where the commissioner starts asking questions. He's not a perfect character, Maigret has his own problems. But therein lies a great story. What's the motive for the murder? Who could have carried out the attack?
It seems that everything is obvious, but in anticipation you expect something unexpected to turn out that the killer ... The film develops the story not only in terms of investigation, but also random encounters with completely random people. Impressive that any lead, any alleged witness Maigret is taken personally, this allows you to assess the deduction, and trace the chain of acquaintance with the victim. In terms of design, the detective film is good. Accidental coincidences, interviews of eyewitnesses are attracted, while the direct suspect person is cunning, does not say something, hides. The detective has no reason, he first uses the method of “carrot”, but all too obvious.
When it's obvious who's hiding what, the rest of the investigative base is meaningless, but only the detective finds potential culprits. The film incorporates both deceptive maneuvers and double play. Interesting activity among the main suspects, so when the actions of the suspects follow in parallel with the common case, a different position of the killers, other motives are drawn. But this does not change the fact that the viewer is aware of things from the very beginning. Murder? An accident? How do you explain multiple knife wounds?
The detective transfers the powers of solving the morgue department to come to conclusions after the examination, but Maigret tries to find out human nature. It is in this, in conversational interrogation, the picture deserves respect. This is not running around the city like in Sherlock, this is not the search for a serial killer or a crazy maniac – these are already well-known personalities involved in the death of the girl. Unfortunately, the whole climax is limited to the usual narrative of those who were initially under suspicion. The film does not shoot a mysterious criminal, but slightly changes the basic guess, dotting all the "i".
This tape is interesting for the investigation, tricks and tricks of the commissioner, but as a search for killers and ulterior motives, it loses at the start. Here is the premise and the outcome, and how the characters came from the exhibition to the climax, the film will tell. Either way, Maigret and the Mysterious Girl showcases the beauty of Paris at night, a mystical city where every building seems to be hiding something. The palette of colors and the emphasis on the sexual predilections of secondary characters contribute to this idyll to surprise and project the motives more sophisticatedly.
'Maigret and the Mysterious Girl' is too sad a ballad about ordinary human withering
What does the French dream consist of? Autumn Paris, a volume of something classic and time-tested on the table plus ' ver de van' (preferably also time-tested). Let's translate it into film. France has always appreciated the film adaptation of something that has become canonical. Doubly valuable if the project managed to lure a superstar of the first magnitude. The director will handle the rest. Including red or white.
A new (I think a hundred thousand) attempt to film something about Commissioner Maigret nominally had everything. At the camera is Patrice Leconte, a famous master who has absorbed the new wave. In front of the camera is Gerard Depardieu, a little cluttered in pseudopolitics and strange films, but still remains thereby ' one of the two greatest French actors for the world' Suddenly, the puzzle didn't work out.
Instead of a brisk demonstration of the Commissar’s sophisticated mind, we saw the Patriarch’s extremely painful autumn. Even smoking a proprietary pipe does not bring joy to the hero Georges Simenon. The languid silhouette of an elderly, coughing and seemingly outlived man wanders the ochre-painted streets of Paris. Going up to the floor above is a marathon race, showing ingenuity is a necessary necessity. Maigret, played by Depardieu, does not live, but suffers. The film adaptation is very far from a literary image (and the problem is not purely literary, as in the recent film about Poirot). As far as Depardieu himself is from his former form.
If color correction can still be dropped for a while. Post-war France is a place for the crippled and dreamless. But the great actor gets tired of even facial expressions. The film creaks with the sound of joints, fills rooms with sighs and replaces actions with talk about the past. It was not possible to build at least some intriguing detective story. Of the three heroes on the screen, those who were not killed are the ones who are guilty - an algorithm too simple even for tabloid readers in the style of Dontsova and Marinina. Instead of talking about how hard it is to lose children. Can you feel the breeze of despondency blowing again? A hum, foreshadowing not a storm, but no calm.
What was that? An old-age genius or just a failed project? It seems we'll never know. Aging Depardieu resembles an aging De Niro in 'The Irishman' Scorsese. Whiskey is almost never drunk in France. And under the notorious ' ver de van' such a snack is not suitable. ' There are cases under white, and there are cases under Calvados' To what it was, I fear, not even the Grand Commissioner Maigret will answer.
Gerard Depardieu is an outstanding actor, and Georges Simenon is a famous master of detectives, so the film forms high expectations, which, unfortunately, are not met. Fans of good detectives will be disappointed. The movie is boring. At 89 minutes, the film takes a very long time, which is amazing. The film is slow, the action is small, a lot of dialogue. There are no false branches of the investigation, suspicion does not fall on anyone, and the investigation goes like a tram on the rails directly to the criminal. And the finale does not justify even modest hopes and expectations. Ordinary, household, to do without spoilers, crime, without any mysteries. The pluses are the authentic atmosphere of Paris and the convincing Depardieu as Magray. The movie is beautiful and the actors play well, but the plot is a problem. So neither good nor bad. A one-time movie. As in Lermontov's poem - ' Love was without joys, separation will be without sorrow'. The picture is exclusively for fans of Simenon and Depardieu.
Every time you start watching a detective, you shrink in anticipation, hoping to see a detective story that will make you feel that "wow." I haven't seen a decent detective in a long time. Cheap theft, now called the re-imagining of Brana, and movies, you can not call, not that quality detectives. “Knights” and “knives” were boring to the teeth. So, of course, I sat down impatiently to watch a new film about Maigret.
"Megre and the Mysterious Girl" didn't elicit any "wow." The detective story here is simple, even primitive. We've known the killer since the beginning. The plot of the murder is realistic and justified as an owl stretched on a globe, and was chosen, most likely, to promote the current agenda. I have not read this work by Georges Simenon, so I cannot objectively assess how close the film is to the original source. Most likely, the owl on the globe was pulled by Simenon, and Tonnerr and Lecomte simply followed the idea of the author.
Nevertheless, the film is pleasant in every way. Depardieu made a decent Maigret. The film revolves around the tragedy of a father who lost a child. The narrative is leisurely and authentic. The audience is immersed in Paris at that time. Submerge slowly, carefully, but tightly. We are allowed to feel the rustle of those very fabrics, the sounds of those very films, the atmosphere of those very clubs, the smells of those houses, the singing of those birds. And it's all nice. Especially if you enjoy the film with a glass of white wine in hand, because Maigret christened the new business worthy of white wine.
It’s nice to see the detective’s wife in this movie. And this wife is not some wordless shadow, but a full-fledged, intelligent, thinking, living character. It is incredibly nice that here the viewer is not pressured by auxiliary means like sinister disharmonious music or near-death nauseating realism. That is, you do not experience any tension and stress during watching, you just watch the investigation. In short, I did not regret the time spent on the film. Impressions are positive.
Director Lecomte conveyed the era of the mid-20th century through dimming everything the camera touched. Rather, it's the 50s, but they're conveyed through the gloom of what's happening. It seems that there is a film studio in the picture, and it is gloomy (as if there are horrors filmed there). Yes, Paris of the 50s fascinates with its ease of getting debauchery. The French province supplies Paris with pure and naive girls. Director Lecomte focuses on the fatigue of Detective Maigret (played by Gerard Depardieu). Detective Maigret is trying to understand the essence of young girls who flock to Paris like moths. The film is dark and consists of conversations of Detective Maigret. This film is similar to Death on the Nile (2020). If Kenneth Branagh made a glossy picture, then director Lecomte, due to lack of budget, made a film-talk. Yes, you need to follow what the main characters say. Otherwise, the viewer will not understand what the salt is and will not understand where the culmination is. What shocked you? So it's cramming into a lesbian love story. These are the morals of 21st century Europeans.
It's a boring movie to me. The background of the whole picture is kind of dark and inconspicuous. It's repulsive. What do I expect from a low-budget French film? Actor Depardieu did great. He plays well tired of life and all-knowing detective Maigret. Another plus of the film is the 89-minute timekeeping. Even with such a timeline, the film lasts a very long time. The most important thing is talking, talking. There is no action in the film, there is no action. Some of the emotions of the characters convey whether he is guilty of something or not. All actors play emotions without action. This is a gum movie that lasts 89 minutes. The producing countries - France, Belgium - made a low-budget European detective.
Depardieu is good: he starred in low-budget films and is not discouraged because of this. The film is boring and very dark. The entire era of the 20th century is represented in black. In the picture there is no Hollywood gloss, no action, no expensive scenery.
Paris – this place is devoted so much praise. Paris attracts provincials, but the fates of girls are broken here. The film is dedicated to girlhood and police experience.
Patrice Leconte’s new film “Maigret and the Mysterious Girl” simply cannot be ignored. Let's start with the director. Lecomte is not just a director, but a real legend of French cinema, an Oscar nominee and a winner of many prestigious European awards. The film itself is based on the works of Georges Simenon, and not knowing the name of the writer is a sign of ignorance! Finally, the main role was played here by Gerard Depardieu, which in itself indicates that the film definitely deserves attention. Now let’s go through the story.
There was a brutal murder in the heart of Paris. Someone killed a pretty girl who had no chance to escape. The police officers who arrived at the crime scene do not see much prospect for the investigation of this case, but Commissioner Maigret knows for sure that he must bring it to a conclusion. Once upon a time, he himself lost a loved one who deserved to live a long and happy life, which means that catching a dishonest criminal becomes a priority for the commissioner.
Commissioner Maigret repeatedly appeared on the big and small screen, and yet I was still very interested in what happened to such an extraordinary couple like Lecomte and Depardieu. And the guys didn't fail! They thoroughly studied the creative style of Georges Simenon and tried to create an almost perfect film adaptation. At one time, I managed to read a couple of novels by the author and I can say that the picture that Lecomte and Depardieu built exactly coincides with what my imagination drew during the reading.
The film was atmospheric. You can see that most of the scenes were filmed live, not in the studio pavilions. Paris here looks both gloomy and anxious, and even passionate. When you watch a movie, you wonder how such terrible things can happen in the most romantic city in the world. But at the same time, your soul is warmed by the fact that investigators like Maigret can actually exist and criminals will think hard before breaking the law.
Separately, I want to focus on Maigret himself, played by Gerard Depardieu. Professional critics rightly noted that the work of Patrice Leconte was one of the best for the actor in a decade. Depardieu played Maigret brilliantly. It is not merely identical with what Simenon wrote, but in some ways superior to the original image. First of all, it concerns feelings. For Maigret, investigating the murder of a girl is not just a new case, but something more. Depardieu feels the mood of the plot and all his skill puts a role. And it's worth it.
In addition, the film has a very strong secondary cast. I admit that the names of the young actors were not familiar to me before, but I advise you to take a closer look at them, as there is a feeling that we will see them in serious projects more than once. In particular, I was captivated by her soulful look, Clara Antust, who for limited screen time left a simple indelible impression.
This is how we got the new film by Patrice Leconte “Maigret and the mysterious girl”. The director once again proved that he is considered a modern classic for a reason, and Gerard Depardieu, who played the main role, returned to the top. Way to go!
He walks as if in darkness, orients himself to the touch.
In my opinion, Commissioner Maigret deserves no less attention than, say, the same Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot. The skilled detective, a real celebrity of the Paris criminal investigation, was invented by the cult writer Georges Simenon and subsequently played by such famous actors as Jean Gabin, Richard Harris and Rowan Atkinson (yes, you are not mistaken - this is the same Mr. Bean!). Now it’s time for Gerard Depardieu to try on that very hat Maigret and take on one of the most confusing cases.
It all begins with the fact that in the center of Paris was found murdered a young girl in a luxurious evening dress, which apparently did not belong to her. There are no documents and it is impossible to know who she is. The only thing the police know is that the killer stabbed the victim five times. This suggests that the unknown was clearly furious. But all these assumptions cannot bring ordinary patrolmen closer to solving this crime, which means that Commissioner Maigret is involved in the case.
Where others do not notice, Maigret sees the smallest details and builds on them an opinion that is never wrong. And even now, when colleagues are only shoving their hands, Maigret does his job and gradually moves to the solution. Moreover, the details opened to his gaze force the commissioner to draw parallels between the death of the girl with his personal experiences from the distant past. And in such a difficult situation, it is very difficult to cope with the emotions that flooded over you, even if you are a great Maigret.
The plot of the film can be called not just twisted, but sophisticated. You have to be a real detective guru to get to the truth. So to follow the investigation of the main character is very interesting. And I also liked how the authors intertwined the investigation of the death of the girls with the past of Maigret, who wanders after him like a ghost. Now it is a matter of honor for the commissioner to unravel this complex tangle and partly appease his inner demons.
Also in the film there is a strong social subtext, which will be clear to all of us. When we are young, we think that the whole world is capable of loitering under our feet, but reality is more complex than it seems. Dreams can turn into disappointment at the moment and at some point you can lose not only your will, but also life itself.
Gerard Depardieu played a great role. While watching, I had the impression that he himself was worried about the investigation conducted by his hero. It is possible that the actor himself remembered something personal from his past and it really touched his heart. Anyway, I honestly praise Depardieu for playing Maigret. On the set he gave all one hundred percent.
I liked the detective thriller Maigret and the Mysterious Girl. The film turned out to be strong, eventful, and pleased with its magnificent dramatic ending. Thank you to all who managed to surprise us with such a great job.
I love high-quality detective stories that immerse you in their investigation. I have read almost all the novels of Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle and, of course, Georges Simenon. The latter’s work has always pleased me with its unique charm, psychological thriller, and really unexpected endings. That is why I could not miss the new adaptation of Simenon, called “Maigret and the Mysterious Girl”.
Louise is a pretty young girl who deserves to be happy. She came from the provinces to Paris with high hopes and believed that sooner or later luck would smile at her. However, the worst happened, and her lifeless body was found on one of the central streets of Paris.
There are no direct witnesses to the incident, the evidence is also not noticed, and therefore the official investigation is stalled. Nevertheless, the investigation must be carried to the end, and therefore the case is picked up by none other than Commissioner Maigret.
The legendary detective is no longer young, his personal doctor advises him to retire as soon as possible, but Maigret continues to serve and always takes on the most complex, intricate cases. The murder of the girl takes up the entire working and even personal time of the commissioner, but even such a hardened investigator as Maigret did not expect how emotional and personal the case would turn out to be, which was not at all as unambiguous as it seemed at first.
Despite the fact that I am a great specialist in the detective genre, “Maigret and the Mysterious Girl” became for me a “hard nut”. The filmmakers were able to twist a serious intrigue and made me seriously scratch my head over the final solution. The plot is revealed slowly and consistently, so that the audience has time to notice every little thing and build their own special logical chain of events. But, to be honest, I never got to know the whole truth before Maigret. Now I want to revisit the entire film to take a look at the little things that have previously escaped my attention. I think the second viewing will also please me with a lot of logical surprises.
As for the lead actor, namely Gerard Depardieu, he is simply magnificent in his image. Anyone who read Simenon or knows something about Maigret, simply had to represent the legendary detective in this guise - tall, large and at the same time subtle and sensual. This is the canonical Magra, which really pleased me.
As a result, I will say that Maigret and the Mysterious Girl is a really interesting, fascinating detective, able to please not only connoisseurs of the genre, but also viewers who know how to appreciate a sophisticated detective puzzle multiplied by genuine human emotions and experiences.
