Matriarch Karantinovich, have mercy! While the coronavirus pandemic is still raging in the world, Russian comedian Yevgeny Kulik is trying to dilute the boredom by inventing jokes on the topic of the popular fear of catching “those who can not be named.”
The fruit of this effort is the short debut “Self-isolation”.
Kulik really wants to walk. Wife Zhenya Rigina really wants to stay at home. Here she is the mistress, here her estate, and any attempt by the protagonist to breathe air not through the window, but at least on the common balcony, turns into mocking supervision. Naturally, the level of absurdity reaches the extreme, but even in this case, the wife knows what to do.
What's good here? In some places, there is a rather pretty and neat operator work. Installation under simple musical chords hints to smile: look, it’s just a joke and soon you will find an unexpected “oops”! In general, “Self-isolation” looks like an actual attempt to defuse the alarming situation of the present time. It’s great to be able to laugh at yourself in a difficult situation. True, not everyone agrees that it is so difficult when many already have depression, paranoia and nervous breakdowns for fear of getting sick and dying, but, gentlemen and ladies, do not be stuffy, please: following your logic, laughing is generally sinful at anything, and the fact that laughter is our protective reaction to stress, in this case plays a key role. The more you laugh, the healthier you become.
Another thing is that the Kulikovo battle with a negative agenda in its comic nature does not reach not only its apogee, but even its half. This is an unfunny movie. Again, not because of a slight kick on someone’s moral bonds, but on its own.
Kulik’s reputation as a comedy actor is already tarnished by moronic films speculating on the type of a kind and vulgar fat man, whom Evgeny brilliantly embodies on the screen. Here Zhenya is Zhenya, the same character of himself who lives in coronavirus realities, and all the gags shown in the film are the gags of any other character in the same realities, because the mode of self-cisolation in principle initially pushes only on such scenario moves: someone is bored to sit at home, someone is afraid to touch everything outside the apartment, with someone what was the main fear is happening, or is about to happen, but why not fantasize what can?
The foundation for building humor is available, bricks are monochrome, masonry is neat, the house should turn out smooth and beautiful. And boring. No deviation from the norm. Decompose the proposed topic in the same way as reproduced here, every second can.
If Kulika was occupied by the very fact of laughing at what is happening - done.
If Kulik wanted to do it well, it was spent.
We have a very ordinary three-kopeck fantasy about where we are in 2020. Nothing more.
