You probably have to be very smart to know that this is a joke movie. And educated. In the States, the film failed at the box office, so the audience lacked qualities. But in Europe and the rest of the world, the film almost offset the cost of production.
Jokes for the States: it seems that the audience did not realize that this is a joke. Even the final collective fart in the warm company of friends did not save the situation.
Jokes for Europe: Taking from the "Canterbury Tales" the basis for the plot and even Jeffrey Chaucer himself in the characters, the authors have already winked at Europe. And once again, violently mixing styles of different eras in clothing, armor, combat techniques, technology and socially recognized manners. And once again, endowing the hero with the name and title of a real knight, and once again, he was stoned with symbols and heraldry.
Europe had enough. And us? Now, when they try to refer to this film as historical, for some reason it is not funny, the adventure is perceived vaudeville, and the characters are dressed up.
All the positive is explained by the charisma of the main characters and the understanding that the filmmakers tried to joke. It is a pity, but for the Americans it turned out too thin, and for the rest of the world.
- He's dead.
- What do you mean?
- The spark of his life was drowned in shit.
- Uh-huh.
- What's incomprehensible? His soul flew away, but the stench remained.
Willie (Heath Ledger) is an ordinary squire of a glorious knight. But one day his master was hit with a powerful spear in a tournament. He died under a tree. The tournament continued, and Will without thinking twice put on the armor of a knight and instead continued the tournament. And he didn't do so badly. So much so that he and the former knight's 2 assistants decided to continue in this direction. Along the way, they accidentally met a naked man who turned out to be a writer. For clothes and food, he sketched out various certificates with a pedigree up to 10 knees and it went. At one of the tournaments, Will met the lady of his heart (where, without a lady of his heart, the knight) and began to strive for her in every way. Like the first places in tournaments. However, on the way Villa will get a sneaky and arrogant dark knight (Rufus Sewell), who has never been knocked out of the saddle and who also wants to get this lady. And then there will be meanness, pride, love, triumph, exposure, victories, defeats and the like that there are in such novels.
The movie. A controversial film. It all starts out as a banal parody, and you're already waiting for something like "Men in Tights." But no, the closer to the end, the less it actually banter and parody and the more typical melodrama of the Middle Ages. It's pretty ordinary. And in the end, I was genuinely perplexed by all these sub-contemporaries in the film. The blacksmith making armor with the Nike logo, the stadium singing We Will Rock You, the mannered dances at the ball, suddenly turning into a dance to David Bowie – all this seems somehow out of place in this movie. After reading the reviews, I realized that I am not alone in opinion. Not that I was waiting for a complete comedy or, on the contrary, a realistic historical epic, but it seems to me that the authors had to either do a typical medieval melodrama, or a specific languish with modernity, or already let go of the reins and break off at full in the parody genre. Moreover, the film is uneven in tempo, plot and narrative, and the first half of it is generally of little interest to watch. I did, though, and as much as I don’t regret it, towards the end it unfolds better. The movie even managed to hook me emotionally. The scene where Will returns home after 12 years of wandering to his blind father really hooked me. The actor who played his father has a cameo role, but he played very shrillly. And in the end it was quite emotional when Will did go against the dark knight.
What else? Good actors, both main and second plan. Nice music. Surprisingly good fighting staging. It's a typical, but not primitive story.
Summary: An interesting and rather good film, which you at first kind of almost bury, after watching, put already above average, and the next day you feel still a good aftertaste and raise your grade.
The Knight's story is a film with a swing at cultism - or a box office hit. Unfortunately, neither picture was achieved. Although the History of the Knight boldly changed the rules by combining the Middle Ages and modernity, and this significantly distinguishes the film from a string of knightly paintings, but this move is understood as an amateur. And the advertising campaign could hit the target, disappointing fans of the Middle Ages, and not reaching the message to the target audience - I think here lies the reason for the failure.
After all, the plot of the film is excellent, if not for humor, then the film would quite have turned out a medieval sports drama in the spirit of ' Rocky'. The film also has a great pace without sagging, and a stunning soundtrack - which on par with jokes creates an anachronism, and this is perhaps the main feature of this film. It’s also Heath Ledger’s first big role in Hollywood – and in dramatic moments, he’s great, even though Paul Battany has covered it all up with his charisma.
At the end - the perfect blockbuster, which today looks quite fresh, and most importantly interesting.
Every time I watch Heath Ledger’s movies, I regret seeing them only after he died. The only consolation is that we have his legacy in the form of unforgettable and vivid characters, both protagonists and antagonists. First of all, I will turn to the positive, namely the history of the knight.
XIV century, Medieval Europe. The era of the heyday of knighthood and knightly tournaments, the favorite entertainment of the people. However, only a person of noble origin with a rich pedigree could participate in them. At this time, the young squire of the suddenly deceased knight William takes the place of his master and begins to participate in tournaments, and very successfully. He gains popularity and fame, finds love, finds a sworn enemy, but Will should be careful, because the deception can be revealed at any moment.
Let the title not confuse you – it is not an authentic medieval story about events that were usually sung in courtly novels and depicted on tapestries. I remember the first time I saw it, I was convinced I was wrong with the movie. But then, what happened got me so excited! The knightly tournament begins with the fact that the audience hands and feet beat the rhythm of the cult song Queen, and then – sing along and dance, and also make a “wave”. This immediately creates a kind of hooligan mood for the film, as a result of which it looks daring, fresh and incredibly exciting. Heroes speak a relatively modern language, tournaments resemble sports with chants and entertainers, and Queen songs are not the only rock hits sounding in the movies. Interesting approach to depicting events, but very exciting and exciting.
And yet, the film about the knights remains about the knights: in the first place remains valor and courage, nobility and art of riding the top and sword fighting. There is even a connection with historical events, real historical figures appear, even the main character uses the name of a real medieval poet! The film traces interesting humor and beautiful melodies that are very organically suited to the atmosphere of events. The story of the knight is a rather interesting mixture of chivalric epic and modern comedy.
The main role shines (there is no other word to pick up) Hit Ledger. His hero, the son of a roofer Will Thatcher, inspired by the accidental victory in the armor of his late master, decides to fight in tournaments. Initially for the sake of money, but then gradually imbued with chivalry, observes their covenants, nobility and valor, determination and courage, and he is ready to fight for these ideals, defeat the sworn enemy in a fair fight, win the heart of his Fair Lady, “reach the stars” and fulfill his childhood dream – to become a real knight.
He is accompanied by faithful friends who will support always and in everything - whether it's sewing a costume for dancing, or learning to dance, or writing a love letter with subsequent delivery: Roland (Mark Eddie) and Watt (Alan Tudick), and then join Joffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), not yet such a famous poet who can stay without clothes, but perfectly performs conferance, and Kate (Laura Freydick), who will not make a good manger, who will laugh about himself!
The beautiful Lady of Will becomes the beautiful Joselyn (Shannine Sossamon) - a girl of noble origin, who instantly charms Will, and she herself reciprocates. The dynamism of their relationship is very interesting – everything goes very beautifully and romantically, and then suddenly a quarrel and coldness. They looked so beautiful together!
As the main antagonist appears Count Ademard (Rufus Sewell), proud, smug and furious, who immediately does not like Will and whom he intends not only to win the duel (and illegal ways), but also to destroy him finally.
Present in the plot and another historical figure - Edward the Black Prince (James Pufroy), already in his lifetime became a legend because of brilliant military victories. In the plot of the film, he appears incognito, trying to get an honest duel with the enemy, who each time refuse, learning that they are the heir to the throne. His paths often cross paths with Will, who deserves the respect of the prince and his continued patronage.
The story of a knight is a very unusual film. Full of deliberately admitted anachronisms, he tells about a very possible event that could have taken place in the Middle Ages in the era of knighthood tournaments. The story is very fascinating and exciting. I highly recommend watching!
If a knight is struck on the left cheek, then he will fall on the right side.
Good melodramatic comedy without much delight, with the simplest plot, but so good and with a decent budget. Knightly English Middle Ages. Contemporary music is used in the film in a particularly funny way. I want to climb a horse myself and, with a stick at the head, prove my own valor in the name of some Marousi.
The main roles, as always, are played by Heath Ledger, the kingdom of heaven to which I am absolutely indifferent (but here he is very in place) and Shannin Sossamon (what a ridiculous name), who is even worse than her maid. In the story, she is a noble lady. I mean, the actress who played the maid is better.
But, as always, the film is strong in secondary roles. Genius Paul Bettany in the alternative image of Jeffrey Chaucer. If anyone did not know, then this famous English poet never walked naked on English roads, on the contrary, he held positions and was from a good family. That's why I made history, by the way. Rufus Sewell, maybe I'll remember that name now, although the actor needs no introduction. The duke's role is convincing. A couple of funny servant friends Mark Eddie and Alan Tudick.
The atmosphere of medieval England is conveyed, if not particularly reliable, then very positively. The film is for a good rest and cheers up. No deep meaning except the nobility of the acquired does not carry, love will always triumph and justice will prevail everywhere. In general, there are all signs of a fairy tale, but a fairy tale filmed.
You can watch food conditionally, especially if you sometimes plug your ears. The film won the Best Kiss prize, and I remember only the kiss the girl gave to her lover through a servant. Something tells me it's not him.
From dirt to princes, I would characterize the structure of the film "The Story of a Knight", a film about the friendship, duty and courage of the hero Hit Ledger. Since ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, ordinary people have created legends and myths about ordinary people who suddenly soared to the sky and became the defenders of ordinary people from the arbitrariness of noble people. This is also sung in the ballad "History of a Knight".
For the amusement of the aristocracy, gladiatorial battles were created long ago, which in the Middle Ages grew into battles of knights. They became more humane than ancient Rome, they fought knights of noble family, fought with blunted spears, although sometimes there were deaths. At one time, the bravery of the knights was sung by such sons of pen and ink as Walter Scott, Miguel Cervantes and others. In 2001, his contribution to the clan of the St. George tournament was made by the director - Brian Helgeland.
After the sudden death of his master, young squire William decides to become a knight himself. The young man changes his lineage, puts on the armor and weapons of his master and is launched by Ulrich von Liechtenstein. Ahead of him are fights and tournaments, as well as love – Lady Jocelyn (Shannine Sossamon).
What to say about the picture itself is a fairy tale or ballad about how good and love conquer evil and cunning. It's a song of ice and flame. The film features the future King of Westeros "Game of Thrones"Mark Eddie. A huge plus of the picture was a feature with modern music, such compositions of such artists as "Queen", David Bowie, "AC/DC", etc. were performed. It's a blow to the eardrums of music lovers. The action is unobtrusive, with elements when you squeeze your fists for the main character.
The film is worth watching in the rainy weather in the company of a beautiful girl and a bottle of good wine.
When I started watching the movie, I had no doubt what was waiting for me at the end. But I was unpleasantly surprised by the plot on the way to this end: an easy, smooth and sweet story, conflicts so weak and loose that they do not exist. All problems are swept away by the power, masculinity and perseverance of the main character. Even a negative character was not really able to make negative - he can cause outrage and indignation only in children. The story itself is simple and universal - a simple good guy achieves success, fame, women - in general, all the benefits of civilization. The inequality of classes and tournaments was taken from medieval themes, and otherwise the same story could be filmed in the themes of any sport or even just business. Characters are cute and interesting, but very few of their personal experiences and stories, everything revolves around the hero filled with valor. The problems of morality, religion, relations were not raised for consideration - all this was mentioned superficially, casually. Be prepared for a large portion of dusty cliches.

The picture is beautiful, bright. Everything is clean and neat, good costumes and scenery. It doesn’t feel like you’re in the Middle Ages. There are very few details in the film and no artistic details at all - there are no special or special items that are given meaning, nothing catches your eye and attention. They do not show the equipment used by the heroes who surround them and, in fact, create an atmosphere. It is completely unclear how these people live, what they eat, what they drink, the clothes practically do not change during the development of the plot. Everything is shown in torn pieces and once.
A separate word about shooting fights - shot well, it's nice to watch. It's nice until you see it for the twentieth time - unfortunately, all fights were filmed the same. However, it is difficult to imagine how otherwise you can remove them.
The music is awful in places. I believe that the director made a very gross mistake at the very beginning of the film - *SPOILER TO THE PINCH* for his first fight, the main character goes to the folk singing We Will Rock You by Queen. Just like the famous Pepsi ad. It’s hard to take what’s happening on the screen seriously. Stylized medieval motifs are interspersed with the soft pop rock of little-known performers. This reflects the spirit of cinema of the 2000s.
The cast is very good, everyone is nice to watch.
This film leaves a very good impression. And despite the fact that it is made in a modern way, in particular thanks to the soundtracks, it is done well, although when the song "We will rock you" is played at the beginning it seems very strange, and not suitable, but in the future you understand that this is such a kind of a director's chip, and that without this the film would have been simpler and more mundane. Yes, in most interpretations, everyone tries to vulgarize to lure the viewer, and there is no such thing here, and it is just wonderful. But still, besides this, there is nothing remarkable, special, unusual in the plot. The plot is very simple - starting with a love story, and ending with a story of hatred and revenge. But still there is something in this film that catches and makes it interesting to the audience.
With its cast, the film undoubtedly wins, in this regard everything is very well coordinated and professional, and there is no point in discussing this a lot.
Of the shortcomings, I would like to say about the blacksmith’s girl, it turned out to be some failed storyline, because you expect more from her heroine, at least include her in some love story, but no, in the end they are only far from being the first assistant, and in principle, it was not necessary for the heroes to take her anywhere with them.
The film is worth watching because it is not just a story of a knight of the Middle Ages, it is very well interpreted by modern music, and I do not understand why most people do not like it, because it is very unusual, and there are other equally good films for watching any classic films about knights or the Middle Ages, but you want something new, and this film is perfect.

Your beauty will be reflected in my armor and in the sides of my horse!
I love this movie. I don’t remember how he and I crossed paths. Anyway, the movie fascinated me. A sea of explosive humor, a sea of charm and charisma, a unique smile of Heathcliff Ledger, an unpretentious but beautiful story with an indispensable happy ending - how much more is needed? The film, although about the Middle Ages, does not pretend to be historical. It's an adventure comedy, lively and bullying. In a good way.
Heath Ledger is as beautiful here as perhaps nowhere else. The film is simply imbued with his charisma and charm, before which it is impossible to resist. His William-Ulrich falls in love with the viewer from the very first minutes. The character is pretty just incredible. Here, like nowhere else, you can feel the huge talent and potential of this beautiful man, who left so late.
I also like it here more than anywhere else, Paul Bettany. He may have a lot of stronger roles that I don’t know yet, but he’s incredibly good here. This comic role succeeded him brilliantly. From him comes incredible energy, acting power.
Mark Eddie’s characters, and especially Alan Tudick’s, should also be noted as a necessary part of the story. They come here as best as possible, and make the film killer funny.
Jocelyn is perfect here. It is such a smart beauty with character and should be a beautiful lady of the main character.
An interesting character - Kate is a blacksmith girl. Strong woman, feminist, fighting for their rights in the world of male chauvinism.
Count Ademard as Rufus Sewell, a villain convincing, but not particularly remarkable, except the desire to annoy Ulrich, of course.
The lack of historicism of the film does not spoil. Queen's rock soundtracks and Jocelyn's punk hairstyles give the picture its special charm. This is not a story, this is a beautiful adventure fairy tale, relevant at all times. And I think the features of historical reality would have made this film heavier, dirtier and darker, which is not necessary in this story. There are many historical films, but only one.
This film, for all its uniqueness, reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean. And the main difference for me is that this movie is successful and I love it. And he, for all my passion and respect for another great actor, and the realization of the genius of his particular role, is not! This film is really funny, soulful and warm, there is no incomprehensible mess of digital special effects, large-scale and boring for me, confused battle scenes. Here, almost all, except obviously negative characters, are good people and cause sympathy, while there are no positive characters (just like in “12 chairs” by Ilf and Petrov). There is nothing superfluous in this film, it is light, bright, colorful. And extraordinarily positive. It just so happens that with a note of sadness, with the film itself is not connected.
You were weighed, you were measured, and you were deemed fit!
Heath, thank you for this film, we remember and love you!

Knight... Who didn’t want to be a knight as a child? Fighting on swords, riding a horse with a spear. Oh, good times were... Wars, battles, plagues... Oh, I got distracted.
Want to remember the handsome young Heath Ledger? Perhaps this is the best option for both halves of humanity. The hero of Ledger is young, ambitious, brave and goes to his dream with all possible forces. What, not a great character? Yeah, it's pretty clichéd, like the whole movie. But both the character and the film manage to become more than just a hero and a movie about knights.
After all, the director “masterfully” spit on the “historical” of the film, inserting modern music and dance, not much caring about the clothes and appearance of the characters, and the dialogue is far from the speeches of that time. And the film, oddly enough, looks easy, and with interest. What does it look like, it is reviewed once in the third exactly the same!
Of course, there are no Ledgers to see here. Female characters are quite diverse in beauty, the villain is also charismatic (albeit uninteresting), and the hero’s friends are worth mentioning separately. Oh, that redhead Alan Tudick. One is responsible for humor in the film. But he is actively assisted in this by the loud and incessant Paul Bettany. In short, the cast here is what you need - pleasing to the eye, although without particularly large stars.
I can’t help but mention the work of the cameraman – the scenes of battles at the tournament are filmed just fine. The effect of being on the podium (and on the very first row) was great!
Yeah, good movie... It is only a bitter aftertaste that leaves... It is bitter, however, that Heath will no longer play a single knight.

What is the first thought that comes to mind when watching a film about medieval knightly tournaments, where the audience chanted “We will rock you”, the participants of the match are presented as guests of a television talk show, and the characters often demonstrate knowledge of modern dances and wear more or less modern costumes? Since the director of the film - by definition, not one of those who "World War II is already a little confused with Trojan", there is only one option - the creator of the film just wanted to bring the medieval realities to the modern viewer a little bit so that he would properly feel the emotions that once boiled during such tournaments. The second thought, which creeps in immediately after the first, is a good parody, full of postmodern jokes and unrestrained banter over pathos dialogues and monologues. Fortunately (and perhaps to someone’s disappointment) none of these have had time to get tired to hell hochm in the spirit of “In the middle of pathetic speech, the hero falls / itches loudly / asks the assistant what’s next” in the film is not – this is not a postmodern parody, but rather pathetic and brutal (in the good sense of the word) film, the composition of which is largely similar to the composition of modern sports films (the ascent of the hero from the bottom of the sports hierarchy to the main “bosss” through victories over dozens of rivals and numerous difficulties), with the exception of the fact that boxing is based on the knight in the karate.
Ther schyveren shaftes upon schuldres thyk;
He feelseth thurgh the herte-span the prik.
Up sprengen speres on twenty foot on hight,
Out goon the swerdes as the silver bright.
These tournament matches, in my amateurish opinion, are simply amazing. Combined with the fact that the whole film is built on them, it is simply a must-see for everyone who is more or less interested in medieval tournaments (I can’t even remember another such tape). It is these fights that convey the spirit of the “Knight’s Story”, which Chaucer wrote almost 700 years ago – after all, practically nothing remains of the story itself in the film – neither the plot nor even the names of the characters have absolutely nothing in common with the original. Even the title "History of a Knight," originally meaning "The Story Told by a Knight," in the film implies "The Story Told of a Knight." It is worth noting, however, that the resemblance to the original is not limited to skillfully staged / well-described tournament bouts. Oddly enough, the very adaptation to the “modern audience” with modern songs and dances is exactly what Chaucer did in his time, populating ancient Greece with knights and dukes, filling it with castles and medieval cities. With more than two thousand years between ancient Greece and the fourteenth century, the 700 years that separate us from Chaucer don’t seem like a trifle. I don’t know if Chaucer was counting on a humorous effect among his contemporaries, but reading about these ancient Greek knightly tournaments, where knights (Knights, Charles!) pray to Venus and Mars before a duel, it is sometimes quite difficult to refrain from laughing.
The next hour of Mars folwynge this,
Arcite to the temple walkyd is, br/
To fyry Mars to doon his sacrifise
With al the rightes of his payen wise.
In general, with the absolute external dissimilarity of the film and the original, the creators of the picture actually quite accurately grasped the essence of the literary source. Even the pathos, in general, “Canterbury Tales” is not particularly peculiar, looks quite appropriate – because the “History of a Knight” itself stands out in the collection against the background of other, more mundane stories (in Chaucer’s time, the golden age of chivalry was behind, and it began to lean towards the sunset). Well, for those viewers who are tired of pathos (although there is no overdoing on this part in the film), there is a small scene after the credits.
Chaucer himself is bred in the film, of course, exceptionally original. That's what, and a funny and cunning crooked raghead, who is also a gambler, I just did not imagine a great English poet, and all the available data about him (and there are quite a lot of data) it completely contradicts. What is the reason for this image of the poet - it is difficult to say, the only option is to immerse him in the thick of events so that at the end of the film he could rightfully say "I will write a book about everything I saw here."
And evermore he hadde a sovereyn pry,
And though he was worthy he was wy.
And of his port as meeke as a mayde.
He never yit ne vilonye ne sayde.
In al his lyf unto no maner wight.
He was a verray parfit, gentil knight.
In any case, the director should say thank you – the attempt to convey the spirit of the great literary work was very successful, even though the film has nothing to do with the original. The wonderful play of Heath Ledger and the rest of the actors in combination with skillfully staged fights does not give the viewer to get bored, and the intrigue persists until the very end, although the action stalls a little by the end. In general,

P.S. In our country, Chaucer, alas, passes under the category of a kind of “Gilgamesh” – if Shakespeare and Cervantes are read and revered by many, “Divine Comedy” is known by many at least by name, then “Canterbury Tales” are few at all on hearing. In this regard, this worthy film adaptation, allowing the viewer to plunge into the XIV century, albeit “adapted for better perception”, is definitely worth watching.
He is, of course, ragged and ragged, but he is strong in spirit.
Kings and princesses, sword fights, knight tournaments. The Middle Ages have always attracted both viewers and directors. How many legends about those distant times we have heard in our lives, how many films have been revised on this topic. But none of them compare to this, called simply "The Story of a Knight."
As someone who has never loved history, I pay little attention to historical authenticity. The writers went even further: leaving the main temporal component, Brian Helgeland embodied a stunning love story on the screen. Commoner and noblewoman, it would seem, nothing new. But what if this poor man puts on knightly armor and goes to fight for his love, and most importantly for his dream?
Of course, knightly tournaments have always fascinated and fascinate the viewer with their beauty, but in this picture, even this is not amazing, but the real skill of professional stuntmen. Only thanks to them we can enjoy the extraordinary battle unfolding on the screen.
A special thank you to the cast. Hit Ledger, Rufus Sewell, Shannin Sossamon, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudick, Laura Frazier and Mark Eddie are so used to their characters that they empathize until the last second. Trust them.
Of course, the main character in the picture is Sir William Thatcher. “The Story of a Knight” is rightfully one of the best films of Heath Ledger, and although he is no longer with us, this brilliant actor will continue to live in the memory of the audience and in the heroes he played.
For a beautiful movie, magnificent play, stunning views, incredible musical accompaniment (Queen "We will rock you" and "We are the champions"), sparkling humor and eternal hamstrings Paul Bettany, as well as simply for an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the extraordinary story of a knight whose name will forever remain in legends - thank you. Brian Helgeland created the same movie that will not leave anyone indifferent. So if you like medieval landscapes and romantic cinema, believe me, you will not regret it.

"The Story of a Knight" is an American, historical film with a taste of drama and comedy in 2001. I mean, I love this movie. This film is wonderful, its story is vivid and looks with pleasure. I like this movie since childhood, and recently I eagerly watched it.
We see the days of valiant knights and their battles and competitions for the highest title. When the owner of the young squire dies, the guy wears his armor and goes to a duel instead of him. We see an amazing, vivid and exciting story of a knight, the story of a beloved knight.
The film is made with dignity and quality, so I want to watch it. The script was touching and the actors were all great. Heath Ledger was a talented actor with a pleasant appearance. During his short career he played many strong and bright roles. His role is one of my favorites. Heath has always played so touching and soulful. He had a kind look with deep thought. He was a great actor. The remaining roles went to such an actor as Paul Betana, who played the funniest role, Rufus Sewell, who played the main negative role and Laura Frazier, who played the beloved of our knight.
This movie is enjoyable from the first to the last shot. Of course, the main advantage of the picture is Heath Ledger. Watch "The Story of a Knight" and you will see the exciting and touching story of a real man, a knight who had honor and courage in the first place.
Bright memory of Heath Ledger ...
To be honest, I wanted my very first review to be about my favorite film, which after a long analysis is exactly “The Story of the Knight”.
I watched it on a video rental tape at the age of 10, and at that age it left a great impression.
This movie is probably good at everything! It is light, simple, not devoid of meaning and morality, which is important for art!
The exciting scenario and setting literally plunge you into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The main theme of the film is the spectacular medieval knightly tournaments that gathered stadiums of both rich and poor people. The film is well and humorously selected music, including hits Queen, David Bowie, War, AC/DC and others. Also a very pleasant and touching original soundtrack from composer Carter Burwell. The film tells about such important qualities of a person as honesty, nobility, strength of spirit, fortitude, sense of humor and true friendship that passes through the years.
It is initially difficult to single out someone from the actors, it is clear that the actors enjoyed the process, played sincerely and qualitatively.
This film combines such genres as comedy, drama, historical film, musical film + a pinch of an action movie in the prices of battles at knight tournaments.
And if you haven’t seen this movie yet... I advise you to sit back, relax and have fun!

To view the film pushed reviews about what it is a “carbon film”. In that sense, the movie disappointed me. However, there is humor, and not to say that vulgar (although not without it), but the movie liked others. Originality. Modern dances with music, entertaining, as in the boxing ring, naked J. Chaucer - and all this in the Middle Ages. Smile.
I saw here the drama, semantic load, lightness and unobtrusiveness of the narrative, a beautiful play of actors, cool productions of fights, interesting dialogues and beautiful busty princesses and a kowal in a skirt. It is also beautiful and beautiful.
The final, of course, predictable, but such that gives hope and kindly teems the soul, filling the heart with warmth. And also understanding: water does not flow under a lying stone. Chaucer was right when he wrote that not everything is in God’s hands, but ours also has a bridle with bits. Be sure to look!
Ever since I first watched this film, I have had an unusual, generally positive experience. The feeling of an experienced adventure straight from the era of chivalry is the main advantage of the picture, along with one of the bright roles of the beautiful young actor Heath Ledger, who died so early and unjustifiably. Therefore, for several years now, I have inseparably associated the title of the film with the main actor himself as a person in the film industry.
What is worth mentioning right away, so that the creators did not pursue historical authenticity. This did not turn the film into a fantastic fairy tale, but, on the contrary, allowed us to deliberately use a number of parallels with the modern world. When a crowd of medieval townspeople chant the famous song “We Will Rock You” in the opening scenes, you realize that something special will happen on the screen. The abundant citation of the peculiarities of the culture of the twentieth century, in the end, brought freshness to the history itself, at the same time made the film focused on a more mass audience, because not everyone has enough perseverance and interest to plunge into historical epics. The dramatic component here is barely noticeable, so from emotions throughout the viewing, joy and enthusiasm, enthusiasm still dominate. This film does not make you laugh, but charges you with positive energy, plus, nevertheless, contains many positive scenes and humorous situations.
The film is replete with action scenes, which are mostly tied to the holding of knightly tournaments. Of course, valor and strength were manifested on the battlefields, and not in tournaments for ephemeral prizes, which already contradicts the concept of chivalry, but such trifles do not want to pay attention. I can’t think of any other film that offers more detailed, memorable and spectacular scenes of spear fighting. The thundering knocks of hooves, the clanging of heavy armor, chips flying in all directions from the force of blows - all this is difficult to forget. After such scenes, you realize how important and at the same time dangerous the work of professional stuntmen.
Separately, I would like to note the game of Heath Ledger - he got a character that combines the qualities of both a commoner and a real knight - albeit not by birthright, but by inner convictions. Many of the picture owes the same to Paul Bettany, who brought to life on the screen the image of the English author with immortal fame - Jeffrey Chaucer.

In Greece he spent a year in silence to penetrate the mystery of the sound of silence.
If you are in a good, upbeat mood and want to get away from the world and watch a great comedy story - I strongly advise you to watch a film about a knight with Heath Ledger. And it's not about the Dark Knight, no. In this film, Heath played not the worst enemy of the protagonist, but became a knight himself. And very bright, I guarantee you that.
Beginning with the immortal single “Queen – We Will Rock You”, we plunge into the story of a guy from a poor family who, thanks to incredible audacity and luck, achieves success. Great humor and wonderful acting fascinates... And if Heath Ledger has enough of the big words he deserves to say that there's nothing to add, I'd like to highlight Paul Bettany. His every move, every phrase of his character is brilliant and laughable, and over the last speech I shed a tear.
The result was a funny, sometimes dramatic, story that will not leave anyone indifferent. A story with a chic ending and another immortal single by Queen. A love story, the story of a noble and merciful man, the story of Knight William Thatcher!

And the villain’s tracks were not allowed to cool down, and the most beautiful ladies promised to love.
10 of 10 years old, but I watched it recently, and it was completely accidental. He reminded me, with his emotional coloring, of the Soviet film adaptations ' Ivanho' and ' Robin Hood' with beautiful Vysotsky songs. In the soundtrack to this film, you can hear the immortal hits Queen and Thin Lizzy, and also see, slightly, not corresponding to that era of dancing, but this is only the highlight of the film.
A sweet, kind story about valor and honor, of which there are many in literature (and, of course, in cinema), but it is so nice to see another real knight!
It seems that the actors received incredible pleasure in the frame and, thanks to this, played convincingly.
I was fascinated by Paul Bettoni's character, a kind of intellectual jester. And, of course, the knight himself is Heath Ledger. This is probably the only movie I liked about this actor.
In the genre of historical film, this picture can be put only for an era and, partially, costumes. This is not a true story, written in our time by a romantic and dreamer, whose good imagination allowed him to connect modernity with the Middle Ages.
After watching, the film left pleasant feelings and emotions, based on which I put the highest rating.
