Girls and the Spanish Saint Honestly, I didn’t dare to watch the film because I was scared off by the poster (it was very unfortunate, definitely). I'm generally wary of Spanish horror films.
But it turned out to be quite watchable such a horror. It even caused a lot of emotion at the end of the show. True, not an emotion of fear, no (I have never been frightened, but it is difficult to frighten me), but emotions - anger and longing.
Plot. A young girl, Narcisse (Aria Bedmar), arrives at the monastery and prepares to take vows. The sisters are on their ears for her arrival, because Narcisse, as a girl, saw the Mother of God herself - which makes her either a fraud or a special servant of God, almost a saint. But what do you mean, a saint? Is it really good to live with a saint? It turned out not to be very good - when a person sees the truth about those people who consider themselves pious and correct. Such people will do anything to cover up their sins.
I liked that in the film the saint (well, actually a saint, as I understood) is shown not as a harsh old maiden, from the height of the pulpit, threatening everyone with heavenly punishments, or as a completely detached from the world of a eccentric, but as the simplest girl who gets along well with children (a monastery concurrently a school for girls from poor families).
I liked the very look of the old monastery.
And that the director managed, on the one hand, to show all the imperfections of the closed church environment, and on the other hand, not to ridicule, not to tarnish the very faith, religion. There is a respect for religion in the picture. There is no gross satire and dance, demonization.
I liked the actors, but I especially want to mention not the main character (an innocent sheep is easy to play), but Rosa and her sister Julia (Maru Valdivielso).
Which is unimpressive. Probably the topic of choice. Recently, many directors only do that periodically make films about nuns. And not about monks (apparently, male celibacy is not so impressive), but about nuns (they say, how many girls on the extradition is unclear what they do, something is wrong here!) All these films are very similar to each other, and a particular film did not introduce anything new. You can just watch and enjoy it.
6 out of 10
But I do not put horror films more than 8, but objectively - there are films of this kind much worse and at the same time with a higher rating, which is not quite fair.
