To be honest, the new work of the director of the nightmarish “Hitman” I was not going to watch, although the video was not bad. But the reviews of friends, they say, there are shortcomings, but it is painfully cool fights, made me change my mind. In the end, there were Xavier Jans and, according to reviews, a good and bloody “Border”, and on “Lupin” and especially “Gangs of London”, the man also worked, and in the United States, as a rule, all “non-Americans” remove all nonsense under the yoke of producers.
I didn't regret it at all. Yes, the beginning here is long, and all the most delicious begins a minute like 40-50, although any rabid action movie traditionally does it already a minute on the 20th. But unlike the last John Wu, here is a cool colorcore (green corridors, neon color of the nightclub, views of Thailand) and juicy colors, cool camera work, and as for the action – sky and earth.
The main role here is an MMA fighter and French kickboxing champion among juniors Nassim Lies. And the guy demonstrates all his fighting skills in all its glory. The fights here are brutal, swift, tough and Indonesian bloody. Sometimes you feel like you’re watching Timo Tiagianto’s film Night Comes After Us.
The fighting scenes themselves are not so much, but each combat segment is remembered: the first reconnaissance by combat in the mansion, minor skirmishes in the club, at home and on the pier (here comes the combat Thai veteran Vithaya Pansringarm), and, of course, the final battle in the corridor and the roof-bearing scene in the elevator, from which the breath is intercepted.
In general, it turned out a normal typical beshka-story clone of “Hostages” with a good budget, cool action (sorry not so much) and a tight introduction. Lovers of the genre can look - fights are definitely worth it.
