Removal rules: when older than her by 100 years The third consecutive Western about Wayne with a negative rating, hopefully the trend will soon stop.
Once again, a recognizable typical image, (to which the actor has long since ceased to correspond) is a new story. Due to the death of the mother, her four sons return to their hometown, where they will attend her funeral, find out that the father is not there for half a year, and then once everyone gathered here, ask about the inheritance, showing dissatisfaction with the answers and suspecting something wrong, the brothers provoked the government from a local businessman.
The Western setup is quite decent, an extensive list of secondary significant characters, a decent budget, even another star in the face of Dean Martin in the add-on - go and make a good movie. All that was necessary to adhere to the logic of their own recreated world and the authors frankly screwed up.
It is not a pity that the brothers do not look similar in appearance to each other, but as the eldest of them could be “sixty years old” and the youngest “eighteen” was in those days grandmothers at 60 years old gave birth. This is only one of the most striking examples of visual sloppiness. In this spirit, blunders and violations of their own established laws will accompany the viewer throughout the viewing, adding to this questionable decisions of the characters, their unreasonable hysterical behavior, besides the faded and unconvincing performance of these roles.
Maternal Gregory and young Hopper, who performed the Hastings couple, not to say that they were good, but managed to give their characters at least some emotion, which can not be said about the Elder brothers, residents of the city, mercenaries, except that the sheriff's deputy, if not such an inadequate character, could be considered positively. The only female role was almost as neglected, but something saved the authors from this and she dissolved with all the others in the grayness of oblivion.
Maybe I’m tired of John Wayne’s rotten image, or just I’m not part of the intended audience of the film, except for some out-of-context scenes, I don’t find anything interesting in this picture.
