Hurricane fantasy For director Carl Franklin, the dramatic thriller “One Wrong Move” could become a starting point in the world of major projects with the best film studios in Hollywood. It was for this film that Franklin received his biggest award - MTV presented him with a statuette as the most promising new director. However, even before "One Wrong Move" he had a couple of paintings (" Eye of the Eagle 2: Inside the Enemy" and "Nowhere to Run"), but they did not bring him dividends. Later, there were several quite worthy films, among which are “True Values” with Meryl Streep and “Severe Crimes” with Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman, but after 2003, Carl Franklin devotes himself to work on television, having removed a good couple of dozen series. But going back to One Wrong Move, it really turned out to be a good movie in its own way, strong, with content and multi-layered characters, which were perfectly embodied by the actors. And among them, one of the main roles was played by Billy Bob Thornton.
So, Billy Bob wrote the script for “One Wrong Move” with playwright Tom Epperson, with whom they will later work together several times. And tells us the plot of the film about how two thugs-killers along with a black girl brutally kill several people for money stored in the house where this terrible crime occurred, and then go on the run. But on the way to escape from justice, they begin to be pursued by one police officer serving in a small provincial town. With each approach, the atmosphere becomes more tense, the detective realizes that he is hanging on the tail of the killers, but at the same time his life becomes more and more in danger because the suspects will not spare him to avoid being in the electric chair. But in the midst of this unexpectedly breaks out the fact that the same black girl-a gunner and a police officer is connected by something and this “something” can most unexpectedly lie on the investigation of a crime. The policeman will face the most difficult choice in his life.
This is the script that Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson prepared for us. Fans of well-written characters film “One wrong move” is one hundred percent suitable for leisure. Moreover, as mentioned above, the actors coped perfectly with the tasks. Another thing is that the picture did not become popular with us due to the fact that the film and albeit strong, but strong it is American. Carl Franklin unabashedly copied a similar genre film of 1973 “The Wastelands”, directed by Terrence Malik with Martin Sheenov in the title role. Even the manner of visual transmission was copied by cameraman James L. Carter. But keep in mind that this is not entirely bad. Bad is when the repetition is made carelessly, without a thoughtful approach, and in One Wrong Move it is not so: Carl Franklin tried and tried unsuccessfully to echo “The Wastelands”, without making his picture a pathetic parody of the famous film Malik. So it becomes quite clear why Franklin received his award from MTV.
Could this have happened if the actors hadn’t done their job? Nope. So Franklin can be grateful to those who agreed to participate without letting their director down. For example, Michael Beach, who played one of the killers, was frightened by his naturalness. At first glance, he is quite a calm black man with an intelligent appearance, but when you see a knife in his hands, then you can see the truth. And in general, you can experience those emotions yourself if you agree to watch One Wrong Move. Billy Bob Thornton was kind of a gang leader, a ruthless beast, but he still kept something of a man when you compare his character to Michael Beach. Bill Paxton’s character has the nickname “Hurricane.” Frankly, it is not clear why, because he was more apathetic and his emotions exploded only when the shadows of the past deeply touched him. But there Paxton is just handsome, perfectly showed his hero in the situation between life and death. And I really want to praise Cinda Williams, who was sorry on the one hand, and on the other – she contacted the wrong people, but who is guilty of this?
And to understand the answer to the age-old question “Who is to blame and what to do?”, it is worth at least once to take precious time to watch the movie “One wrong move”. It was not without sagging fragments, but in general the picture looks very confident and gives food for the mind, when you realize that fate is not in vain brought two brutal killers with one policeman, and between them there is the so-called factor “X”, which carries the heroine of Cinda Williams, perfectly played actress.
