As we remember, in the fourth part (called "The Last Chapter") Jason Voorhees finally died at the hands of little Corey Feldman. The death of a silent maniac with a machete cost the creators almost $ 2 million, and satisfied fans brought to the box office as much as 33. You know, it was impossible to just end like this, so the witty producers, without thinking twice, launched a new series into production, which came out a year after the alleged official death of Voorhees.
So, we have the horror Danny Steinmann Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. What happens after the last chapter? Only a new beginning and no other, so the name is more than logical. The writer decided to save money, so the entire film was directed and written by the director himself. Let’s see how it differs from the previous ones.
After the events of the previous part, 5 years pass. Tommy is 17, but still has nightmares about Jason Voorhees, so he goes to a special hospital that is... right, near Crystal Lake. In the asylum, Tommy meets other patients - at first it seems that they are all absolutely normal, but in the course of the film you realize that only alternatively gifted individuals can come into the clutches of a maniac. One way or another, Tommy's group is another stupid teenager who again have only sexual relations on their minds and, unlike other parts, not drinking, but light drugs. Naturally, in the district there is a killer in a hockey mask, which is kind of like Jason, and seems not him.
I want to say that in the fifth part of the formula “Friday” continues to work. We are looking again at a group of teenagers who want to die here and now. They continue to walk one at a time, have sex in the woods, wander through unfamiliar territories, despite warnings.
From the innovations in this series, we get a slightly different place of action (psychoshka), although it still stands almost on the Crystal Lake itself. Our Darwin Prize nominees also have neighbors, and unlike the decent people in Part Four, they are a family from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Which of the characters is more backward – patients or neighbors – is an open question. However, the woman next door brings a few elements of comedy into the narrative.
This is the fifth part, and it’s basically the same. But I love this film, I’m happy to watch it and I think I’ll revisit it years later. While “Friday” is not particularly annoying, each part has its own colorful characters, well, the extra, which Jason (or someone in a hockey mask) cheerfully cuts into pieces. The collections of “New Beginning” were less than “The Last Chapter”, but still the film paid for itself several times, so the continuation, of course, be.
Thank you for your attention
Unexpectedly interesting - or before us again famously twisted detective
As I scolded the fourth part, so I will praise the fifth — and again before us ordinary slasher, and maybe unusual — deal with it. Tommy Jarvis has grown up, but his problems have not gone away - he increasingly remembers his sister and mother, killed by Jason in the previous part, and he also dreams, only these bad dreams - about Jason, who will one day return. Instead of Corey Feldman, which of course, John Shepherd acts and, with his hand on his heart, he played him just fine - one look at Tommy it becomes clear that the guy has problems with the psyche, according to the plot Tommy changed more than 10 clinics, where he was treated like hell. As a result, it was decided to send the guy to a boarding clinic for difficult teenagers. What's interesting, though briefly, but it helped, as Tommy immediately meets Reggie, a boy who so resembles him as a child. And everything would be fine — but here's our old friend — guess three times, who I mean? Of course, about our recidivist hockey player - it all began with an incident between Victor Fried and Joey, a strange guy I must say - as a result of a fatal outcome with the latter - murders begin and then the first question arises - why? And the second question is whether the killer is an imitator of Jason or Jason himself, and maybe they killed Tommy Jarvis (I don’t want to spoil, but if you look to the end – this idea may come to mind) – in a word, a sea of questions, and the answers yourself find – as for the murders – here the kids are very pathetic, however (even Victor Fried is pathetic, as well as, of course, Joey) – of famous actors only the performer of the role of Reggie’s cousin – Demon played by Miguel Nunes Jr. (DJ – Street Fighter – and my advice to you).

To put it mildly, roughly speaking, the horror franchise will never end as long as it makes a profit. Jasoniana was long-lived for this reason, pleasing the studio with the difference between modest costs and decent profits. Therefore, the producers clearly became overheated, finishing off a cash cow in a hockey mask in the previous part, quickly catching up a year later to rehabilitate The Last Chapter with a fresh New Beginning. Having again gone along a well-trodden path, bypassing the costs of stars, impressive scenery and expensive layouts, the film remained with familiar components, changing the Crystal Lake camp to the same camp, but for difficult teenagers. The sun, air and water are Jason’s best friends. And the producers, because it's almost free. Danny Steinmann, who had friendly ties and good experience in the film industry since his youth, was chosen for the directorship. Being a professional in television advertising and having two thrillers, shot qualitatively in conditions of minimal funds and fast pace, the director received two important instructions: scare or kill on the screen every seven or eight minutes, and also turn Tommy (the surviving boy from the previous series) into a new Jason so that the franchise does not think to stop. After watching the first and fourth parts, the director told his son about the upcoming work and only then he realized through insane delight that he got involved in a very popular project.
Remembering the second order of the producers, Steinmann still did not want to write the script and put on the screen another meat grinder with the obvious villain. He wanted intrigue, of course, in slasher terms. That is why the director most of the time shows only hands, legs, weapons, hiding the full silhouette of the villain, so that the viewer is confused in guesses. Who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one? And, after all, does he have a signature hockey mask? Or maybe it is female (hello, the very first part!), because it is not by chance that an eccentric farmer with a sloppy son is introduced into the plot, threatening to nail everyone around? Have you caught an obvious allusion to Jason’s mother and himself? There's also a tramp on their farm. Yes, and the medic from the ambulance, picking up corpses, some strange, responding to the thoughts of the sheriff aloud about the maniac, as if turning to him. About antisocial guys and girls from the camp and there is no question, especially about the closed silent Tommy with hallucinations about Jason who left the grave. That is, the director twisted out as best he could, leading the viewer by the nose, favorably differing from the former parts of the franchise that do not hide the guise of a murderer. The killer is covered for the time being with a halo of different versions - try to find the imitator among a bunch of suspects! Not everyone on the crew knew the mystery. Of course, to a full-fledged detective, everything is too simple here, because a slasher is a slasher for that, so that the stars from the sky are not enough, but only to chop and cut, but thank you for that. However, many scold the script for the search for a simulator, but this is too categorical against the background of subsequent releases that turned a sadistic healthy man into a living dead man, a cyborg or even a worm moving from body to body. Although, speaking of slasher, all this is secondary, and the primary components are guys, half-naked girls and the type that reduces their number. Dumb characters appear in the frame just to be, and then they are killed. Minimum backstory with maximum ketchup. Fatalism? Slasherism! Despite the absence of special effects master Tom Savini, the film is fine with fake self-harm. Fans do not remember the names of the characters, but thoroughly remember the inventive wonders of prophesy with them. Fantasies on slasher leprosy here do not occupy, and the fight of a girl with a chainsaw against a rascal with a machete is excellent and unexpected. The acting game resembles curves, reducing all attempts to the level of porn, which is no wonder - the director began with this direction, which would well characterize the donkey Ia. Hence nudity, because it often replaces talent. If you don't believe it, ask the popular Hollywood actresses of the nineties and zeroes and old Harvey. Teenagers who decided to take a look at “New Beginning” can be calm – nudity compensates for the lack of acting by different parts of the body. Hence the story that Steinmann was so well belted on this part, remembering his first picture for adults, so the studio had to take up the scissors during the editing. I think a lot say cheerful memories of the director, who at the sight of the main role on the first day caught fire with the idea to shoot a scene where she would run ... in a wet blouse!
At the first screenings, the film received negative reviews from critics, fans lacked the beloved villain, but the picture became a hit, gaining a huge audience and paying off impressively. Danny Steinmann for the first time received a decent fee for the work done, the opportunity to shoot without regard to budget or shooting days, and prove himself a professional. This was his first success, which, alas, immediately ended in a series of bad luck, never allowing him to work in the cinema again. At first, he got a luxurious project – the sequel to “Last House on the Left”, but due to the trouble with the rights, everything ended at the script stage. There could have been a musical with Ozzy Osbourne, had it not been for the arrest of one of the producers. Charles Band and his father were invited, but their studio went bankrupt in Italy. A luxurious house in the hills was destroyed by an earthquake, moving to a friend, and soon the truck destroyed the bones and health of the director, riding a bicycle. The arduous operation did not relieve the constant pain that Steinmann suffered all his life, once even trying to do the stupid thing to part with her and only miraculously was saved by an accidental maid who entered his room. For many years, the director was in oblivion, but suddenly a series of bad luck passed, pleased with the attention of new generations of viewers who invited to shoot documentaries and horror meetings under the auspices of Crystal Lake to skirt, take autographs, take pictures and ask questions. He got a phone call, he shared funny stories from the set, giving interviews to the guys who blog on the Internet. I actually became friends with one. The sick and already elderly man always with great joy communicated with young film lovers, holding the hockey mask from the film in question, thanks to which he found his short but long-awaited happiness. And the film is really good in the franchise lineup, with an intriguing plot, an interesting denouement, a spectacular prop and even a song from the growing popularity of the group “Pseudo Echo” about a mysterious type with a lifeless look, suspense. Suspense, of course, is loud, but who is waiting for him in the next numbered slasher?
The only film in the series 'Friday 13' that I have never seen before. Now all 12 parts are screened ) I consider the best in order: ' Friday 13' 2009, ' Freddy vs. Jason' and ' Jason X'.
The fifth Friday of the same year as me, 1985. But much less interesting and attractive. How could time after time pay off completely the same story – I find it difficult to understand. Probably, this is somehow connected with the peculiarities of the market of that time: there were fewer cinemas, movies were released less often, you can not watch from a pirate site, even the Joy Casino did not exist yet. Judging by the payback, people enjoyed watching the adventures of a loving son in a hockey mask, shining noisy youth.
This is the fifth time this Friday’s muddling takes place at a summer camp by the lake. This time for the mentally ill. Jason methodically relieves them of problems with the head, at the same time hooks local farmers (who themselves would be nice to heal), staff diner and various passers-by. None of them even try to defend themselves, but they yell at their throats. Of course, even in the next room they can not be heard.
The film seemed silly and depressing to me. Characters are insane. Events are unrealistic.
Despite the intention of the producers of Paramount studio to complete the franchise on the fourth part, successfully shot by experienced horror maker Joseph Zito, high box office fees led to a different result - a year later the fifth part was born. The authors, however, refused to solve the problem of the resurrection of Jason, who was hacked by the machete Tommy Jarvis in the finale of the previous series, bringing to the forefront of the maniac imitator. This idea immediately evokes a sense of deception, exploitation of the interests of fans to the franchise, which, however, was the case.
Director Danny Steinmann (1942 – 2012) was previously known only for the horror “Invisible” (1980), and the thriller “Wild streets” (1984), where he had an experienced co-director Tom DeSimone. Steinmann failed in many ways, which apparently caused the decline of his career.
The fifth part is more like a thriller than a horror, since murders, the number of which exceeds all limits, are committed somehow everyday, and the viewer will hardly even have a pulse. Completely disappeared view on behalf of the maniac, who created the lion's share of the atmosphere of the previous parts, and in the abundance of characters you can just get lost. Along with the experienced author Martin Kitroser, the screenwriter is the director himself and even the lead actor John Shepherd. Their composition created a leapfrog of heroes, many of whom appear only to be killed. It would be better for the authors to work better on the atmosphere and detective intrigue, since they decided to make the imitator a maniac.
Danny Steinmann, who began in the 1970s with porn, filled the film with a lot of naked ladies and, as the stories of the shooting testify, at first these scenes were long, until producer Frank Mancuso Jr. intervened, ordering the director to take scissors and cut copulating pairs. As a result, in the fifth part there was a very moderate content of eroticism, even less than in the fourth part, but Steinmann’s talent for staging erotic scenes is much less than that of Joseph Zito. However, the participation in one of them Debi Sue Voorhees, the only maniac in the entire franchise of the same name, turned into negative consequences for her in the future - she was fired from two schools where she taught when the management discovered these scenes. And in vain - the figure of Debbie is what you need, and she looks like Tina quite naturally. We can say that this is a rare individualized minor hero of the fifth part.
Corey Feldman agreed to star in the role of Tommy only in a short episode, so the authors decided to make an adult hero, moving the action for several years ahead. However, the little-known actor John Shepherd does not seem a suitable candidate. For most of the film, he is silent or aggressive towards other characters, so most viewers will surely want him to die brutally at the hands of a maniac. Apparently, due to the lack of charisma of the actor (and because of poor scripting of the hero), this character in the sixth part was played by another actor.
Overall, the fifth installment is capable of delivering a certain amount of pleasure to slasher lovers, but this is the weakest Jason Voorhees series of the 1980s. Surprisingly, the much better 8 part caused fan discontent rather than Danny Steinmann's work, staged at times as a low-budget drive-in. However, then perhaps there would not have been an impressive resurrection of Jason in the sixth part, which was directed by the more gifted director Tom McLaughlin.

I'm gonna cut you into big chunks, girlfriend, the way that fat guy was hacked. . .
Friday the 13th – Part 5: A New Beginning
Why do I keep talking about Jason when I refused to talk about Freddie after the third movie? I'm more sensitive to Freddie, it's not easy for me to accept that he's not the same anymore. And for all the fluffiness of this franchise, I love that I'm willing to look for every little bit of a good moment. Seriously, quality has to be scraped. The 5th film is a sequel to the 4th. And now, 5 years after a collision with the clumsy serial killer Jason Voorhees, 17-year-old Tommy is still tormented by the memories and nightmares of that fateful night. Sent to a rehab facility for troubled teens, Tommy's nightmare is, fortunately, far from over. A slew of brutal murders in the area suggest Jason is back... What are those smells that sway towards me in the wind? There must be new meat.
Teen offenders, this time around, are fodder for Jason, but even this potentially interesting and ethnically diverse mix of characters can't save the viewing process from boredom. Seriously, this is the least threatening bunch, ostensibly 'bad', young criminals/psychopaths. The point of their stay in a rehab center is that they should be integrated back into society, rooting out their criminal/psychotic behavior. Aside from the guy who cuts an annoying kid with an axe, and perhaps Vilet, who looks strange, combining all the punk images of the 80s and corrugated hairstyles, this company seems a little more a threat than, say, a scared kitten. Similar to a guy who suffers from resentment - will he be crushed or pierced in the toilet? And anyway, 'New Chapter' is a cinematic centipede, going to the bottom, when the series was, well... not cool, but at least I wanted to believe in something.
In addition to #39; crazy' teenagers, other fleeting heroes are a couple of near-miss scumbags with problems in the car, an ambulance driver and his waitress girlfriend, as well as a weird combination of mother and son who do not fit with the rest of the film. Danny Steinmann has no intention of putting any tension into play. The former director seems to be more interested in the various scenes in which women take off their clothes. Most of the film, I want to tell you, is like a porn movie, because it consists of the same vignettes that you see at the beginning of every adult film. Most characters are shown only for one thing: to be killed. Yes, many slasher characters only appear to be killed, but at least in the past, there have been attempts, however weak, to uncover them before they are cut. Surprisingly, maybe not, 'A New Beginning' is a rambling and sloppy movie. Reggie and Pam try to replace Trish and Tommy. That could work... But we don't get to know them so closely that we, like Trish and Tommy, empathize with them. And anyway, Pam is a capricious waste 'final' a hero, a disgrace compared to Alice, Ginny and Tommy. She's not even in the same league as Trish, let alone Laurie Strode and Nancy Thompson. By the way, what the hell happened to Trish Jarvis? Without it, one less problem?
Tommy's return gives a certain sense of continuity and familiarity. It was probably the only interesting move made by the filmmakers, and there's a kind of attempt to show the psychological trauma that someone who survived the encounter with Jason suffered. But every time adult Tommy has nothing to say, he still plays the injured victim. He suffers from Jason’s spectral visions. I don't even know what drugs he's on. It's hard to appreciate our leader's performance as it's probably his blank look and monosyllable play is a deliberate choice, but that doesn't make Tommy any more interesting. What happened? Could it be a nuclear disaster or a poison gas leak or the wind blowing the wrong way, destroying a major franchise? This is a film that circles the loop on my critical scale.
Danny is a boob exploiter who, you know, didn't bother to show any creative (or even interesting) death. I didn't read the ending. It didn’t make sense then, it doesn’t make sense now. However, if evaluated solely in contrast to other parts of the series:

Joey is no longer with us today. And not just today...

Friday the 13th – Part 5: A New Beginning
Ah, ha, sorry. It's Friday on the calendar. Thirteenth! God told us to look at little Jason Voorhees. Included a fifth part called "A New Beginning." Why? So it happened, reviewing (a terrible word) the entire franchise, stopped after the fourth film. It's time to continue...
It's a good one, there's a direct link to Zito's movie (well, which is "The Last Chapter," supposedly). It's Corey Feldman. I'm happy, kid's back in business, great. "Two Coreys" - uh, my happy childhood, there were times. Nostalgia came from head to toe. A whole movie was made about them (The Story of Two Coreys).
While I was nostalgic, the creators managed to slip a pig. Corey appears literally for two minutes. Take my word for it, these are the best two minutes. As for the plot - his hero has already become an adult, turned into an ordinary dull boy. Why? Why do you want me to believe in a long time frame between parts?
Corey can make a whole movie, I say. He alone saved Zito’s painting, putting his hand on his heart. And the creators did not care, the main thing for them is to cut down more money. You're going to watch the adult Corey story (and you don't care). Since Corey himself is still small, then instead of him he will play nouneim, a house by the road.
Nedo-Cori, let's call him that, is glitzy. Allegedly, Jason will return and take revenge on him in full. Yeah, Jason always comes back (Friday 13th). Nedo-Cori arrives at a treatment camp to clear his head. Will there be a forest near the camp? Oh, the kids are running around again. All problems are above the roof.
You can't do without Jason, of course. Only he can solve all the problems (with a single stroke of a machete). I'm not going to lie to you, I love gorgeous women, I was only worried about a baby with huge breasts. Stupid girl! Director Steinmann tried at the end to play a psychologist (like the director of the fifth Pinhead), it turned out funny and too predictable.
In the documentary about slashers “To pieces”, one very interesting thought was put forward that numerous sequels became parody of each other. “New beginning” – not so much confirms it (here a little showed off), but still confirms. Porridge is such a porridge. I complained about Zito's lax murders. Man, it's even worse here. A lot of people are behind the scenes.
And the apotheosis of delirium is a little kid confronting Jason on a tractor, ahaha. This game has no comment at all. Give me the tank! In short, you can watch if you have nothing to do. Funny nonsense, Spider even sitting on the toilet singing songs.
P.S.
Check out the crazy mother and son, a colorful couple!

Having completed, as it seemed, in 1984, the “Last Chapter” series of four films “Friday the 13th” about a cold-blooded maniac from a crystal lake, the guys from the Studio “Paramount Pictures” in 1985, in order not to lose their fan base, decided to resume and continue the series. The guys thought, why not, and after only a year, they rebooted it with a New Beginning. In those days, this film was a restart of the entire series, when the authors tried to refresh it, adding to the straight story a share of mystery, but at the same time, in fact, just reminded of the first part, when it was not completely clear who the killer was.
It's been five years since Jason died. The boy Tommy Jarvis, who then killed the maniac in self-defense, suffered a severe psychological trauma and all these years was undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in a variety of clinics. Having tried all the methods and all the possible drugs, it feels like the guy's roof would go without visions about Voorhees. As a last chance, Tommy is sent to another psychiatric clinic “Pine Grove”, where a nightmare about Jason Voorhees becomes a reality when a wave of maniac-style murders begins in a quiet hospital from a crystal lake.
The only open question is, if Jason is dead, who is the Ripper in the hockey mask? Showing a copycat, but at the same time hinting at the possibility of the appearance of Voorhees, the film thereby tries to move away from the simple concept of hunting for victims and add some detective to the plot. Building around this “high-art” mystery another part of the franchise, the authors play the game “Jason’s legacy”, in which a cosplayer in a hockey mask tries to entertain the viewer on the same concept as the first four films.
That's just this concept is a failure and an attempt to reboot the series fails, since everything that happens on the screen turns out to be similar, only more stupid carnage, as in previous films, and plus the already savour with which the original made it. Having arranged a massacre, in which even had to change and cut some scenes to pass under the age rating, the creators did not take into account one point that nobody is interested in imitators. After all, the audience loved this franchise, and it became a cult primarily because of the charisma of Jason Voorhees, and without its frontman “Friday the 13th” seems, as well as not Friday at all.
If they kill, someone needs it. Immortal maniacs, who migrated from the dreams of their creators to cinematic film, with considerable constancy return to the system to cleanse the land of teenagers who recklessly climbed into their territory. Michael Myers, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger faithfully served the underworld, supplying her with a steady stream of victims. And among such a glorious series of notable villains, Jason Voorhees, the famous drowned child of Crystal Lake, who at some point was tired of looking at the world through the veil of muddy water, was not lost. Seeing the death of his mother, yesterday’s outcast, and now the vigilante of everyone who appears in the nearby forests of the lake, put on the stream the destruction of people, giving special preference to adolescents. The modest idea, which originated in the depths of the consciousness of Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller, has acquired even if not the most intricate performance, and nevertheless it was able to capture the imagination of millions of viewers around the world, from which Jason Voorhees turned from a cameo into a full-fledged maniac, able to compete with the master of dreams Wes Craven. Frankly simple, and yet fascinating story, which tells about the endless massacre of everyone who falls on Crystal Lake, continued in a series of sequels, deprived of paternal supervision of Cunningham and Miller, but this course of events did not affect the quality of the franchise. Initially, the low dramatic bar of Friday the 13th untied the producers, because the audience favorably accepted the original film, which in turn means that they did not need any revelations. The only thing that matters is that Jason gets back in line and kills as many carefree vacationers as possible. And yet, despite a stable straight formula that does not give failures for five films, the creators of the franchise decided on one very serious artistic move, around which the next film of the series, known as Friday the 13th, was built. Part 5: A New Beginning.
So, the plot of the film takes place five years after the brother and sister Jarviz dealt with Jason Voorhees, which has never been done before. However, the consequences of the massacre did not go unnoticed for Tommy. Instead of finally sighing with relief and living life to the fullest, he became obsessed with visions of Jason appearing in both the boy’s dreams and waking hours. Unable to cope with obsessive fears, Tommy was forced to become a regular guest in various psychiatric hospitals, and nevertheless, doctors could not help the hero get rid of the ghosts of the past, tormenting him from the inside. Tommy's last chance to find sanity and peace of mind is a trip to a country camp for troubled teenagers, led by director Matt (Richard Young) and psychologist Pam (Melanie Kinnaman). Having gathered in a quiet, peaceful territory only those young people who really need help and trusting conversations that will not leak out of the camp, Matt sincerely believed that he could help Tommy, but with his arrival in the district begin to occur no less nightmarish events than those that recently took place near Crystal Lake. A maniac in a hockey mask continues Jason’s horrific deed, cutting into pieces the body of everyone who appears in his field of view. And to stop the villain, of course, is not easy.
Producers of the entire cycle ' Friday the 13th & #39; have never been particularly thirsty for experimentation, believing that the ultimate plot simplicity is the key to the success of the story among a large audience, attracted by the uncompromising straightforwardness of Jason Voorhees and his brutal methods of action. By the fifth part of the franchise, Frank Mancuso Jr. decided that it was necessary to make at least some edits to the narrative that could refresh the slightly worn-out synopsis, adding notes of surprise to it. Thus, Jason Voorhees was left in the grave, highlighting a couple of episodic appearances in the form of a disembodied spirit, and his place was taken by a certain imitator inspired by the glory of a creepy hockey mask, a swamp-colored suit and a machete. Director Danny Steinmann was commissioned to develop the story 'Fridays the 13th' in a previously unexplored direction, excluding direct participation in the plot of any member of the troubled Voorhees family, but instead of the expected freshness and novelty of ideas, 'A New Beginning' in fact, it was extremely simple, pathologically predictable and frustratingly passable slasher, devoid of intricate murder, tension and enticing zing in the face of a memorable mania/mania.
Steimann leads the story without sparkling, speculating solely on what was in the franchise before. An attempt at a kind of reboot ' Friday the 13th' did not lead to anything, since Jason's heir in the bloody field acts exactly as Voorhees did, only a faded copy will never be able to stand on a par with the original, no matter how controversial it was. The appearance of the imitator falls into the camera infrequently, but the director still failed to create around his villain a halo of frightening mystery. The maniac is more likely to cause boredom and disappointment at the fact that he is not allowed to come up with more inventive methods of murder than the banal use of a knife and an axe in the most banal way. Do not make a special impression and the victims of the imitator, unlike the previous film of the series, again lost their individuality. The viewer simply has no one to cheer for, because everyone who falls under the bloody handout, for the most part deserves it. The viewer has to watch the carnage from the indifferent side, perceiving what is happening on the screen as a cleaning of useless game rubbish, which under no circumstances would leave a place in our memory.
The only person capable of generating interest is the same Tommy who managed to survive the nightmares 'The Last Chapter' and won a place in 'A New Beginning'. Young Corey Feldman briefly returned to history to remind us of who should be praised for bringing Jason to hell, and his place is eventually taken by John Shepherd, who embodied Tommy as a teenager. A verbose, introverted guy becomes the center of attention of the production, because you never know what to expect from him. Tommy deliberately bypasses communication with other guests of the teenage camp, does not hurry to take part in therapy and a feast, believing that he will cope with his problems on his own. The only disappointing thing is that the hero doesn’t really get as much screen time as he deserves. The attention of the audience is constantly switched to auxiliary characters who appear facelessly in the plot and also fall out of it indifferently. If the director and writers paid a little more attention to the development of Tommy’s character, we would get a truly multifaceted, complex image, on the basis of which there was every chance to sculpt the future of the franchise. But instead, we got an intriguing, attractive and complex character scheme that deserves a lot more.
In the end, I want to say that the “New Chapter” risks where it should not have been done, deceives expectations and in principle does not offer anything radically unique.

After the release of the fourth film, it was possible to put a bold point about the adventures of the maniac in a hockey mask, but the audience wanted to continue and therefore decided to create something new, and not the possession of new heroes and new maniacs, shot everything that we showed in the previous 4 films.
Tommy Jarvis is being treated by Dr. Letter in a psychiatric clinic. Everything seemed like a perfect life until new murders began.
Actors. Unlike the first films, the main role is played by the character Tommy, who does not feel himself the winner because he killed a maniac, in addition, this case greatly affected the psyche of the boy and he became a withdrawn and sullen young man unable to live in society. But when new murders begin, he is transformed, his desire to find the killer turns him into a possessed man who later begins to associate himself with someone who has occupied all his thoughts for the past few years.
The killer, the man for whom the franchise was resurrected, in fact was a rather boring personality, although with his appearance there is some meaning in the picture.
The visual effects are again perfectly executed, especially I liked the ending, it leaves a certain understatement leading to the continuation.
According to the plot, I can say that the film is again stuffed with stereotypical secondary heroes who will be cannon fodder for the game and revenge of Jason. It’s a bit disappointing, as over the course of five films, directors can’t think of anything new to do without a character. Everything would be sad if not for the amazing psychological game, the change of personality under the influence of trauma and evil, Tommy strongly and skillfully showed the transformation of his hero, and did it in a way that he does not want to judge, but only to sympathize with him.
Despite the fact that I liked Tommy-John Shepherd’s play, everything else I did not like, a dull maniac, a gray impersonal city and its inhabitants, and of course the absence of Crystal Lake also played a negative role.

Jason Voorhees is of course one of the greatest maniacs in the history of cinema, which has become a cult. But the films about Jason are low-grade, identical, beaten, repeating their own clichés and plot films aimed at extracting money from the wallets of the audience and in this regard endlessly sawn. In general, all films about Jason are stupid (well, except for the sixth and last part, there is a really cool plot) and delusional, but holds the palm of primacy in stupidity - the fifth part.
I don't even know what I looked at. Because there's nothing called Friday the 13th 5. There's not even Jason here, I'm serious, there's just -- I don't remember what. Because the movie is so boring, uninteresting, has nothing to do with horror or suspense, you just don't care what's going on in the movie. Here only children die for some reason, I remember only the very first, who was killed with an ax by another pupil and the ending. I don’t remember anything between them at all. Everything is so meaningless and meaningless. Even the ending in this movie has nothing to do with the next movie, so the whole movie is meaningless.
You know, I'm actually wondering why this part is more popular than even the eighth part I hate. In "Jason storms Manhattan" at least there was a plot, and there is nothing here at all, this film is just a blank.
The fourth part of the series put an end to the maniac Jason Voorhees. He was stabbed, specifically. However, in the finale of the previous part, we were shown a bit of a strange look by the surviving guy, Tommy. The next film was released on schedule, a year after the previous one. In short, pleasantly surprised, but did not go far with development.
It's been 5 years in Tommy's life since then. His whole family died, so he was hurled all the time between different treatment facilities. The film begins with the fact that he is taken to a new place - a treatment camp for teenagers. It's called Pinehurst, but it looks like an inaccurate replica of Crystal Lake - except there's no body of water. On Tommy's first day in Pinehurst, one teenager kills another in a fit of rage. And then a wave of murders begins.
Overall, the film really moves away from the standard rut. For most of the film, personally, I've been trying to figure out if Tommy is a killer or what? We are constantly shown that he sees Jason everywhere, but these are visions. I don’t even want to spoil the fun of the movie because it really almost sparks interest. Unfortunately, not all is well.
A significant part of the picture is still occupied by the dismemberment of teenagers. If God forbid they are having sex or want to have sex, you can be sure they will be killed. And, as in the previous parts of the series, this is not explained. The murders are deliberately pointless, they don't even try to tie them to Tommy to warm up the suspense. To suspect Tommy the viewer will only insofar as ' well, who else?'
It's impossible to empathize with anyone other than Tommy, because there are no characters. It's hard to empathize with Tommy because (a) we suspect him; (b) he's acting very strangely. That's weird. In addition, a significant part of the other characters in general are still bastards, so you expect their murders even with some anticipation. At first you suspect them, but they are too stupid bastards to be murderers.

All because of an unexpected turn at the end and intrigue. You can watch this movie for that. But because of the attachment to other parts of the series, it almost makes no sense to look like a standalone picture. On the other hand, if you haven’t seen the previous parts, these countless murder scenes won’t be so battered for you. In fact, the fifth part of them is already yawning.
While the first three films focused on both murder and the mysterious atmosphere, the fourth began to focus on various and brutal murders and eroticism. And like the fourth film made it clear that Jason’s adventures were over, but the fans wanted more, and the creators and the film company wanted even more money.
Another sequel to the series Friday the 13th – Part 5: The new beginning does not present something new, there is no change in the film, now it is not the Crystal Lake camp, but a camp for the mentally ill, here is a slightly original ending, but these changes are presented incorrectly. It’s like teenagers with mental disabilities in the movie, but it’s the same characters from the past. They do not look like the mentally ill at all, well, except for the main character, here are the same dumb teenagers who have raging hormones.
Murders, though cool, but without an interesting plot and a frightening atmosphere - they are empty and never frighten. If in the first films you could not empathize with the characters, then in the sequels you only expect Jason to kill them all.
The atmosphere is absent and it just becomes not interesting, the series begins to outlive itself and with each film from the storyline of the first film go further and further, and in the last films there is no connection at all. Of the pluses, only an intriguing finale and a little interesting protagonist and that's all. The intrigue in the film is weak, there are many cool and diverse murders and bed scenes, but there is little sense. In general, it turned out to be a weak film, you can watch, but because of the monotony, interest disappears.

The next series about the brave adventures of Jason, with such a spiritual name, begins exactly with the previous part. Tommy, the same boy who so famously dealt with the maniac, grew up and wandered from one hospital to another, yet such bloody experiments affect the fragile psyche. Arriving at the next institution, which, as usual, is somewhere in the wilds, he is overtaken by a nightmare in a hockey mask.
This part in terms of bloody showdowns openly degraded. Again, close-ups of skewed faces and machetes, which are about to sprinkle new blood - this is all that the viewer can count on. No disgusting details, a fantasy that went wild in the past parts, suddenly exhausted itself in the end. Jason himself sometimes looked like a donkey, his clumsiness, often turning into retardation, irritated not in jest. Primitiveness of the rule of the ball.
The only thing I blamed all the previous parts was the lack of a real script. This picture corrected this flaw more than halfway (within its genre). The whole action is woven into one logical chain, with many plot surprises that are really able to keep the viewer in the dark until the very victorious end.
The hospital itself caused great bewilderment, or rather its life. Not very healthy people come here, and freedom is unlimited. That may be the treatment, but after the incident, she was supposed to be covered up, and even with a big scandal. It turned out that their dismemberment is quite an ordinary event.
The film can be recommended for viewing, but only to ardent fans of Jason, who are ready to endure maniac incompetence in favor of the script.
I wish someone a good viewing experience!!
Hockey mask and machete. Part 5. Jason is an imposter.
The fifth part of the cult franchise was shot by a little-known director Danny Steinmann. This is the only film in which a completely different person was under a hockey mask. And that, frankly, spoils the whole impression of the film. After all, we want to see exactly that ruthless and impartial killer, which is the real Jason Voorhees. And we get an ordinary person - a copycat Jason. Personally, I don't like that move.
The plot of the film is based on the story of the hero of the previous film - Tommy Jarvis, now grown up and has mental problems. He is haunted by hallucinations and memories of Jason. That is why Tommy gets into a “crazy without walls”, where he meets a false Jason. By the way, as far as I understand, the film takes place far from Crystal Lake. And this is already to some extent a violation of the rules, because Crystal Lake is a permanent location for Jason.
In terms of the appearance of the false Jason, too, I have complaints. Why does he have blue stripes instead of red stripes on his mask? And instead of the usual shirt in the color of khaki and trousers in the style of militari – workwear for workers? If you have decided to imitate Jason, then match at least externally.
The murders in the film are not particularly original. All the same throwing corpses into windows, piercing the back with sharp objects, cutting the neck with machetes, etc. The only original murder, in my opinion, was a completely false firefighter, which Jason put in the guy’s mouth.
"Friday the 13th - Part 5" is really a "new beginning" for a string of boring sequels and mockery of the image of Jason Voorhees. But the film itself came out quite good, although far from cult.
After the successful release on the screens of the fourth part of the franchise "Friday, the 13th", the creators faced the question of continuing the film series. On the one hand, to shoot the next part about a maniac in a hockey mask did not really want after the finale of the fourth series, which had the name “The Last Chapter”. In addition, judging by the latest installments, the franchise has already stopped issuing original ideas – only murders were new each time. On the other hand, "The Last Chapter" garnered a large cashier, which would be the "green light" for the sequel. But the decision was made in favor of the continuation, and five years after the first part, in 1985 on the screens came the fifth series with the loud name "New Beginning".
The plot, in general, is quite primitive. However, this time Jason Voorhees turned his attention not to ordinary teenagers, but to psychiatric patients, among whom is the adult Tommy Jarvis (John Shepherd), who killed Jason a few years ago. The idea to make Tommy the main character of the fifth “Friday” was born at the time of the sequel. However, due to the employment of Corey Feldman dropped out of the project, and the script was slightly rewritten in favor of an adult actor, who turned out to be 24-year-old John Shepherd. I don’t see the point of comparing both actors on the subject of who played Tommy better, for the reason that too different images came out. Tommy played by Corey was a restless boy who liked to scare others. Shepherd played a silent unsociable man with severe mental trauma. So the actors did their best.
Unfortunately, unlike the previous installments, almost none of Jason’s victims elicited sympathy (and rejection). Just teenagers with an undisclosed character, who are ruthlessly killed one by one by an uncle in a hockey mask. Of course, there were a couple in love (not without nudity this time), and a lover of pranks, and a girl protagonist (who does not look much different from the heroines of 2-4 parts).
It is much more interesting to see Jason. What’s special about this part is that Jason isn’t exactly who we used to think he was. Hence the analogy with the first part. As for the nature of the antagonist, no matter how secondary the script, murders are still considered one of the advantages of the franchise. However, this time, mostly prickly-cutting objects. But added "exotic" in the form of a belt and a signal checker. However, as usual, it was necessary, as necessary, to work on the editing to remove the most cruel moments and allow the picture to be shown in the cinema.
At the risk of releasing a sequel, the creators of Friday the 13th – Part 5: New Beginning, though, did not ruin the franchise with a completely realistic plot, but did not receive as much money as the previous parts. In principle, the picture turned out to be quite a watchable youth slasher. But still the open finale and intrigue with the personality of the antagonist spoiled the impression a little.

The genre of horror films is perhaps the most compromise genre in cinema. When killing the main antagonist in the film, the filmmakers can easily bring him back in the next installment and perform a similar stunt from series to series. As if turning even the most extraordinary villains into real immortal spirits, which even death itself is afraid to approach like the demotivators of Chuck Norris. Hence, it is not surprising that it would seem to kill Jason in the fourth part and declaring it the last in the franchise, the creators of the picture did not break their word and found a rather interesting way out of the current situation.
Unlike the previous parts of the series, the film does not continue the events immediately after the events of the previous part, but rather elegantly and inconspicuously uses a very promising story arc, which was left by the creators of the previous part of the series. Hence, the main intrigue of the picture is whether Jason really commits the murders shown in the picture, or whether he was simply “set up” Such a trick really brings an element of novelty to the picture and does not allow long to think about whether Jason really came to life again after so many cruel mutilations and cremation of his body outside of any norms of realism and it is this that made the already mysterious image of Jason even more mysterious and mystical.
A certain innovation of the picture can be considered that this time the cannon fodder for Jason was not ordinary teenagers who want to have sex, smoke pot, drink beer and just have fun in the fresh air, and patients of a local correctional institution for the mentally ill. The only embarrassing thing is that the working character of the hospital is reduced to a minimum, and the complete absence of any course of treatment for these patients makes you doubt the quality of this institution.
Otherwise, the film is quite canonical genre. Unlike the previous parts, which in many ways resembled each other and created the impression of a single whole, this film looks a little detached. After all, the director of the film Danny Steinmann decided to make the film a little differently and instead of the expected frank scenes of violence and rivers of blood, Steinmann deliberately turns the camera away at the most interesting moment and wants the picture to be less bloody and creepy. That partly spoils the impression of the picture and gives the impression of its visual weakness when compared with the early paintings of the series. When, as the music of the composer of the film, Harry Manfredini is called upon to somehow iron out the uneven corners in directing. After all, it was finally here that Harry Manfredini decided to somehow diversify the music and made it even more creepy.

Friday the 13th - Part 5: A new beginning is not a bad horror film, which looks very canonical to the genre, but loses a little to its previous parts. Since wanting to diversify the screen action, the creators of the picture without knowing cut off half the levels of the picture and quite strongly abstract from the usual style of the previous four films, but all this does not make the picture bad and despite certain shortcomings, the film still looks interesting. Especially for fans of the genre.
'Friday the 13th: A New Beginning' - an impressive step backwards compared to the fourth part.
So, five years have passed since the events of the previous film, and for Tommy, the clever boy who killed Jason, they were in psychiatric hospitals (which is quite logical for a child who cut a maniac into bloody mince). Apparently desperate for electroshock and sedation, he is sent to a summer camp for the mentally unstable: a bunch of teenagers with problems (however, somehow not indicated in the film) live in a cabin in the middle of the forest. I don't know who came up with the brilliant idea of letting nervous young people use an axe unattended, but it ended up being what it was supposed to be - one patient hacked another. The killer, of course, immediately tied up, but the deaths did not stop. So, who's the killer? Jason rising from the grave? Tommy, who obviously went crazy? Incredibly stereotypical crazy hillbilly who lives next door and seems to have come from a fifties comedy? The runaway axe guy? The answer is so idiotic, so poorly thought out and meaningless that I won't even name it. But for such moves writers should hang.
The script is disgusting. Realistic or at least empathetic teenagers have sunk into oblivion, but more than questionable cliches blossomed with a lush color. Cardboard characters are always sad. In addition, Danny Steinman does not know how to create suspense, although he tries very hard, and he also does not know how to show a spectacular murder. Oddly, obviously, to properly remove a descending machete, you also need a certain art. Unnecessarily inventive killings have returned, especially meaningless ones in such an inability to beat them well. True, to shoot corpses from Steinman turns out - corpses and unexpectedly appearing ' Jason', only this in the film and can at least try to frighten. And then there is fencing on a machete and chainsaw - not that it was appropriate in a horror movie, but the thrashing scene impresses me.
In principle ' A New Beginning' you can skip it with good conscience. Sheer failure in every way.
It takes a little less than a year, as after the statements that the fourth part of ' Friday 13' - the final, the following - the fifth in a row - part of the already famous epic about the supernatural killer Jason Voorhees . Fans howled with the happy news and flooded into the cinemas, but what was waiting for them there?
All in all, I have already heard that those who saw the fourth and immediately moved on to the fifth were disappointed. I also watched the fifth after the fourth, but decided not to immediately write a devastating review, but to think about what I saw and dig into the essence of things.
After digging, I suddenly understood the actions of the creators of 'New Beginning'. If it was already announced that 'The last chapter' (such was the subtitle of the fourth film ' Friday 13'), then it should be the last, but if there is a sequel, it should have a completely different plot essence, there should be root changes. And they happen, since the legend Jason Voorhees was buried in the previous film. What? I won’t reveal this secret, otherwise it will be close to the spoiler. But the creators, I repeat, did the right thing, the only one ' but' - the idea failed, the film turned out to be qualitatively worse than all the previous ones.
It is strange to say ' qualitatively worse', because even the actors who starred in previous films ' Fridays 13' spoke of them as third-rate films, but four films ' Friday 13' have become legendary, in the circles of young people who always love to tickle their nerves, cult, were filmed as if there is a meat grinder, it goes full. But in 'New Beginning' somehow more thoughtful, which gave moments to think and look at the film and sadly agree that this is a clear representative of films category 'B'. Most likely, this is due to the fact that distributors craved a rating '16+' and the whole 'truth' film disappeared. And what is needed traditionally for a slasher? everything is right: the sophistication of murders, a sea of blood, convulsions of mortally wounded bodies, and for those who are waiting for thrashing, as in the series about Jason Voorhees, in 'A new beginning' was waiting for disappointment.
If you go further into the basics of the plot, it is worth mentioning the point that the course of action is still interesting, because in the finale an unexpected secret is revealed, but here too lies the sin of the creators of ' New Beginning' - it was necessary to somehow bring the viewer to the fact that not everything is so simple in the film, and so throughout the film it seems that this is Jason, only lost his grip.
'A new beginning' chills the blood, but not like the previous films 'Vurhisiad', something small took, but, again, this dependence on the received rating of the picture '16+', the creators were so afraid to lose money from fees that they did not take the risk, and this is far from everyone liked.
I love the Jason movies with their anxiety and tension, and I eagerly watched all the parts about this cruel and silent killer. This movie turned out to be good, but there are parts much more interesting about Jason, so if you compare this film with other parts about Jason, then this movie I do not like very much, although it is psychological and tense, but something was missing. “Friday 13 – Part 5: A New Beginning” – American horror film of 1985, which turned out not banal, and it is an interesting plot, but still something in this part I was missing when watching.
This part reveals the story of an impostor and a new bloody nightmare, and we see a new dramatic and eerie series of events that takes you into a terrifying murder story in which Jason Voorhees as always takes an integral part. We see how cruel and cold Jason returned from the realm of the dead and again he craves blood and mush, and this story from the first to the last frame is imbued with horror with elements of thriller and drama. Jason films were a whole era of American cinema of the last century, and I personally like films about this killer, they have an atmosphere that was only in films of the last century, but now it is not in new horror films. Watch “Friday the 13th: A New Beginning” and plunge into another story of horror and murder, whose victims fell from the hard and strong hand of the creepy and chilling blood of Jason Voorhees – the one who returned from Hell.
This is probably where the real disappointment came from. The previous ones were not masterpieces, but I treated them as horror classics. Well, to a certain branch of this genre. I mean youth horror. The fifth part of the book disappointed me.
Well, let's start by saying we have camp again. Now with the nuts. I'm actually starting to think, and maybe guess, that's what writers and producers do. Even if this is the case, the chip does not insert at all. It would be more interesting if Jason finally practiced at other venues. By the way, Jason will not be here.
The plot, in general, is simple, slightly different from the plots in the previous parts, but still not so bad. Psychiatry, murder, blood - banal, but it did not work out.
But what really kills this movie is the actors. It's their game. They play disgustingly. Their screams, their frights are insanely played. You don’t believe them at all and that’s bad. And when a little black boy, who had just been almost nailed and was screaming like a little girl, watches a maniac fight with a girl like a baseball game, cheering and smiling when his team wins, it’s completely nonsense.
In my opinion, this is the worst part. I hope that the next ones will reach the previous level.
"The spider was scared"? A rubber spider? Are you afraid of rubber spiders on strings?
As much as the creators wanted to finally destroy Jason, they simply could not afford it. We decided to finish everything after the fourth film. However, this is the “new beginning.”
And the arguments are quite significant. Today, they are especially important. The collections of the Friday the 13th franchise were simply magnificent. So why not continue to work in this direction?
The fifth film also raised money. And it was a rather different picture. If not externally, then internally. You can say that – the plot is great. I can’t compare it to the first part.
Good thing Corey Feldman showed up at the beginning. And his character continues to be the main character.
They made a lot of bodies. And it is not only the main maniac who kills. There are a lot of really funny episodes. Even stupid ones.
And against the background, the mental illness of the hero progresses. Individually, all factors are very good ingredients. And in fact, all together, turns into the soup that the mother-rednek cooked.
There's a childish character again. And the black guy did it pretty clearly. Well done.
The finale seems to hint, but as far as I can remember, then everything will be different. And the actor who played Tommy will change. So this film stands alone, one-story and in the deep forest.
7 out of 10
It’s no secret that the fifth part of the franchise “Friday 13” is not what it is. The creators did not want to cut the chicken laying golden eggs and continued the series, only they made a very big change – put on the imitator hockey mask. Of course, many did not like this, some on the contrary, but the film did not lose anything from this. After all, Jason was killed in the last film, and in the first part, his mother acted for him. Such changes are easily explained by another quirk, the one that in the mid-80s bosses of the horror industry loved to joke with the audience, that is, very wild to play, as it happened here.
In many ways, the fifth film has not lost its balance, it is still the same slasher that it should be. However, there are some differences, namely, the company that got a ticket to the other world and the place of action. Here is not an ordinary bunch of teenagers who came to the lake, here are patients of a certain center of help for young people with various problems (the absence of parents from infancy, mental disorders, etc.), that is, they can still sympathize. And this smoothly goes to the second point, to the fact that this area is not Crystal Lake.
So, not to make wild mistakes with the franchise, as they did with the film “Halloween 3: Season of witches”, in this series there is a connection with the previous film. The biggest thread is the adult hero Tommy Jarvis, played by actor John Shepherd. The guy, although he has grown up, has become silent, withdrawn and suffers from panic attacks. And by the way, the meeting with Jason was not in vain, because this nondescript kid can already give out lulas no worse than the guys from MMA. There are also repeated references to Jason from the sheriff, played by Marco St. John (he can later be seen in "The Hard Target" and "The Punisher2004").
And now the most important thing! By the number of cut characters, this film jumps all the previous ones. For those of you who haven’t seen this movie, there are many murders. Very! They are very evenly distributed throughout the film, but their number is simply skyrocketing. Here you can see everything from the banal slitting of the throat, to crushing the head with a belt. And you see, all this is done by a simple man.
So while Jason Voorhees is gaining strength in hell, we are spoiled by a very cruel and intelligent copycat. It looks like Friday the 13th – Part 5: The new beginning is very new, compared to the previous ones and fresh. Maybe a respite from the famous killer and a change of location is good, but it would not get boring. But I will note that the series has not lost anything from this, both artistically and in cash terms. And Jason, he’ll be back, because vacation, like any other fairy tale, always comes to an end.

This fifth sequel to the acclaimed franchise has been harshly scolded by fans of the original series, and I personally believe that all this hatred is exaggerated. It’s not the best movie of the series, but it’s not the worst (Jason X deserves the title). “Friday the 13th, Part 5” gives the viewer what he would expect from this kind of movie in a good dosage. You see teenagers, very bloody murders, sexual adventures and a mandatory suspense genre. So what's the main problem here? Why is the fifth film of the franchise sometimes quite scolded?
I think what really grabs fans is that the fact that killing everyone isn't really Jason. Yes, we're getting our first and last copycat Jason ever. To be honest, the film doesn’t really try to confuse us about the identity of the villain and his motivations, returning from the original picture, the detective line is very simple and simple. If the intrigue was conceived as the main goal of this project, then the writers were very rested on this, or they were simply lazy to come up with something more intricate. Yes, it's depressing that Jason has been on vacation, but at least the copycat makes every effort to match the legend that is the main feature of the franchise. In my book, the villain gets a satisfactory mark.
Actor's work is not particularly memorable. To begin with, none of the characters are annoying. I'm not arguing that you don't really empathize with anyone here, but at least you don't want a maniac to cut the environment any quicker, okay. John Sheppard, playing Tommy showed a solid went boy, it is a pity only he did not have a special screen time. Melanie Kinnaman (Pam) excelled in both parameters of the heroine of the slasher: both beautiful and frightened regularly. Most of all, I liked the star of films category Z Miguel Nunez Jr. (Damien): if you do not know who it is: he has a rather interesting role in the film “Street Fighter”, he in the final says that he worked for evil because he was paid.
Director: Having searched a bit on the Internet about the director Danny Steiman, I was curious to find that he had a lot of films of the genre “for adults” in his resume and this significantly affected the project: the film has the most abundant number of naturalistic erotic scenes, much more than in the recent remake. I also liked the camera chips with a quick hit of the camera, a la “The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick and the reddish color scheme a la “Kaleidoscope of horrors” by George A. Romero. A solid job.
Musical accompaniment: This time, Harry Manfredini somewhat moved away from the usual violins and focused more on the brass band, as a result of which the music turned out not so much oppressive as rather dramatic, despite the fact that there is no drama in the picture, it plays in moments of horror, which in my humble opinion spoils the overall effect of perception.
Violence: The fifth film is one of the bloodiest and most violent in the series. Even if death is limited to a simple slit of the throat, we are shown a close-up of a few seconds openly whipping blood. What is bad: these are the methods of killing, they are often repeated: this is either cutting the throat, or steaming / piercing the stomach. From the original I can distinguish only three interesting murders: a powder burner stuck in the mouth, a woodbreaker that pierced the teme, and a cleaver that got into the hero’s face (although we have already seen this in the previous film of the series).
General opinion on the film: The fifth picture of the famous series is quite a departure from the four predecessors, and I mean not even missing the character of Jason. I'm talking about the atmosphere itself: it's less hostile and less mysterious than before. Perhaps it was the absence of the canonical camp "Crystal Lake" and a huge, bottomless lake. But at least they were pleased with the presence of a good old, dark forest, which in itself can scare to white heat. Overall, the film was a success.
Again, I think few people really believed it would be four episodes. And the reboot took place - after only a year. The fifth part, according to the established tradition, replaced the director, who this time became Danny Steinmann. In addition, she managed to give a serious intrigue, thanks to which you again follow what is happening on the screen without breaking away, although nothing so fundamentally new in the construction of the plot and the development of events. A new beginning, except for one main and a couple of secondary circumstances, does not offer to our attention.
The main mystery, over the solution of which the audience has to fight, is the absence of unambiguous indications of who is once again making a bloody harvest, it is unknown by what miracle Jason, who miraculously returned from the other world, or the hitherto unknown follower-imitator. This question will not give rest to fans "Fridays..." until the final. Thus, the main plot core in the picture Steinmann forged flawlessly, and thanks to him, the franchise received a second wind
Another, seemingly secondary, moment with some narrowing of the “hunting area” of the mysterious killer made its contribution here. Atrocities are committed in a more limited area, which further fuels doubts about the relativity of the maniac. Well, you can also recall the tie-up with Voorhis rising from the grave, which you do not know what to count: a nightmare reality or a strikingly real nightmare. And that’s all, the intrigue is actually ready. Writers Martin Kitrosser and David Cohen, scrupulously worked on the plot, do not deny ingenuity.
In terms of acting work, the fifth series does not stand out, but I did not notice outright failures. And the roles played by Melanie Kinnaman (Pam Roberts) and Marko St. John (Sheriff Col Tucker) I tend to call very decent, especially considering the general level of the franchise, which does not require all the creative forces from the actors. Fairness, however, requires a reservation that the success of Melanie to some extent contributed not very successful, as in my opinion, the selection of actresses for female roles in the previous part, so that Melanie was obviously in a winning position.
Still fresh and cheerful in the fifth episode, composer Harry Manfredini, judging by his soundtrack. Once again, there is a responsible approach to work, although for the first four "Fridays..." everything could become boring and give rise, if not negligent, then lightweight attitude to their further participation in this project. Anyway, with the music in "...New beginning" again everything is in order.
Delighted with interesting script ideas and even acting, "Friday, 13 - Part 5: A New Beginning" made a good impression, supporting interest in the cycle as a whole. Steinmann Unconditional standings.
The more inventive and varied murders give away the main idea of the filmmakers with giblets to the middle of the picture. And the scene was moved away from the ill-fated lake. True, direct communication with those events is maintained through a key character.
A camp for psychopaths in a picturesque rural corner of the United States becomes the scene. This time, the motives are logical and more or less plausible. True weak killing maniac, his supernatural ability to move instantly to the right place and a rich arsenal remained in the spirit of previous Fridays.
The opportunity left by the finale of the fourth part of the film series, the creators of this tape used as they could. Jason's killer has grown up with his nightmares and oddities. Since his appearance in the open air hospital coincided with the beginning of the massacres, Tommy becomes the main suspect. The boy is glitzy, fighting skills and the presence of a knife, albeit penal, can strengthen the opinion of his guilt. And motives don't have to be digging long. It is alarming that the maniac is of a larger build, but fear has large eyes. To find out for sure who is to blame, you need to watch the film to the end.
The present family of freaks somewhat dilutes the spectacle. And in general, the plot plots are more, however, they are all unable to survive on their own.
The New Start has moved somewhat away from the standard Friday scheme, which is undoubtedly a plus. Minus, there's no real Jason. Although his spirit is invisible (sometimes visible to some, especially gifted) is present, as it should be in the mask. Of course he will be back again!
While I'm a longtime fan of Mr. Voorhees and his funny-bloody adventures, New Beginning is the only film in the entire Friday series I've watched more than three times. Therefore, all the statements that part 5, they say, is the stupidest “non-atmospheric” speculation on the idea and distorts the bright image of Jason in the eyes of fans, I personally categorically reject. I will try to explain why.
First, oddly enough, but of all the sequels of “Friday”, the 5th series in the general mood of the picture is the most similar to the original. Ask, 'How come? And they are similar in that only in these parts the director gives the viewer almost a detective story, and more simply suggests him to try to answer the age-old question: Who, in fact, is the killer? In all other series, such a flight of the viewer’s thought is by definition severely suppressed by the scriptwriters at the root.
Secondly, both before and after the 5th part, the main part of the list of Vurkhisov’s victims is, frankly, a crowd of passing and absolutely unforgettable characters, a kind of “cannon fodder”. But in The New Beginning (I don’t know whose merit it is – the writers or the director) it is much better – a good half of the people engaged in the frame do not suffer from a lack of individuality. As an example, I will give at least Joey in a gorgeous, I think, performance of Dominic Brassia. The guy was on the screen for two or three minutes, but his untimely death I mourned (in a figurative sense) until the very end of the film, because this good-natured fat man became the only corpse in the whole series, which I sincerely felt sorry for.
Having lost a stingy tear for the fallen hero Brascia, I will not forget about the thrashing Hubbard family, who brought to the film what the other series clearly lacked and will not lack - a good dose of madness (I will emphasize - not doubtful insanity, as in part 7 or even worse - Jason X - namely good-fun madness). I am sure that Junior Hubbard, played by Ron Sloan, is the most charismatic of all bikers who have ever appeared on movie screens.
Third, as I continue to praise the actors, I will not forget about the main patient, because without John Shepherd, Tommy Jarvis probably could not have become the real Tommy Jarvis. With his image of a closed psychopath, Shepherd coped perfectly, and Tom Matthews, who took over his baton in the 6th part, to the level of his predecessor, in my opinion, could not reach.
The fourth point is the chic song “In His Eyes” performed by the little-known team “Pseudo Echo”, which was certainly a first-class decoration of the film. The scene in which Violet dances to this composition, 'waiting' for Jason to appear, is the most beloved scene in the whole series.
Fifth, last, last, most important... In short, in addition to the fact that the New Beginning is perhaps the funniest part, it is (which is important for a slasher) also the bloodiest, and it is these two main components, being skillfully mixed by Mr. Steinmann, that give birth, in my (naturally absolutely subjective) view, to the best cocktail in the world Friday the 13th.
