I don't like old movies. The Makropoulos Means 1978 is not even a movie, but a theatrical production. I don’t know what made me want to see it.
But I loved it!
Arguments about eternal life, or rather its inexpediency, which form the philosophical basis of Karel Čapek’s comedy, in my opinion, are hopelessly morally outdated (although, of course, in the 19th century it was a breakthrough). Contemporary science fiction writers have discussed this issue much more deeply.
So, in this regard, my expectations were not met.
But something kept me on screen, something kept me watching. And then I had the feeling that I touched something magical, extraordinary.
That voice, those eyes, those lips... Nelly Kornienko was much older than her character, but this did not diminish her magnetic charm.
And I believed her, in some strange way, I believed everything her character said and did. It's not even immediately realized.
Perhaps this is what real art and real acting should be – it attracts and holds you no matter what, and you can’t even explain to yourself what charmed you.
In general, this is the case when the whole production is held only at the expense of one actress. (this does not mean, of course, that all the others played poorly, just, without her, the performance would not have taken place).
